FR End To End KeepAlive Vs ATM OAM
Hi,
Actually we have an infrastructure like the one that is represented in the image below.
The Local Router has two TGU's with DLCI 20. The Remote Sites can be connect to one TGU or to another one.
On both Sites we have the End To End KeepAlive to make an ISDN to be ready when the FR link goes down.
We need to migrate the actual infrastructure to a E3 - 34mbps link over ATM and the Architecture will become the follow:
In This way the TGUs will "collapse" in the new 34mbps ATM link.
The ISP in this architecture needs to "switch" ATM/FR Packets between the Local Router Vs Remote Routers.
Now the question...the doubt...
If We enable the OAM on the sub-interfaces that we'll create on the Local Router (one for each remote router), the "compatibility" between the EEK and OAM is effective?
There is no support for end-to-end keepalive in ATM/FR inteworking.
Note, ATM and FR are both are obsolete techonolgies today. You should look for a pure IP solution, e.g MPLS for best results.

Cisco 3925 router with an ATM E3 card that never goes down!
Hi all,
We a Cisco 3925 router with an ATM E3 card (NM-1A-T3/E3) configured as below with 1 PVC. we see that the ATM subinterface we created for the PVC never goes down! not even when the WAN link is down! The problem with this is we are tracking the line protocol of the ATM sub interface to have VRRP failover to standby router. But because of this issue only BGP goes down whenever the WAN is down & line-protocol of the Subinterface remains up, the failover never happens & site is down. We can configure VRRP to track reachability of a BGP route as workaround but I would like an explanation or troubleshooting steps to check whats the trouble with current setup?

Thanks a lot in advance!Your router has some configuration on it already and it would help us give you better advice if we knew what is already in the configuration. So would you post the output of show running-config (if there is sensitive information like addresses and passwords you can mask them out.
Changing the configuration register was a good start. I have a couple questions/observations that may help you get started. I notice what appears to be the same public IP address on Gig0/0 and on multilink. Did you get that address from your ISP? If so what kind of connection do you have to the ISP?
In your description you tell us that Gig0/0 is connected to a small switch, which I assume is for the LAN of your network. But that also is the interface where the public address is configured. So I am confused whether this interface is for LAN or for connecting to the ISP. Can you clarify this?

If you set the logging level to notice-5 or higher, the SCM utilization may peak at approximately 90 percent because each connection generates a redundant index mismatch log entry. For example:
AUG 7 14:12:15 3/1 1124272 SLR-5: Rejected. Redundant global rule index (7) not found.
This might probably the reason for the High CPU utilization.
The CSS 11800 with CSS8-SCM Redundant System Control Module (SCM) is designated for end of sales.
The recommended replacements for the Cisco CSS 11800 include the Cisco CSS 11500 Series Content Services Switch or the Content Switching Module (CSM)an integrated services module for the Cisco Catalyst. 6500 Series Switch and the Cisco 7600 Internet Router. -
Currently our Cisco Router handles our DSL traffic. The DSL traffic goes directly to the cisco router and then out to the rest of the world, the traffic never hits our switch. I would like to use a bandwidth management device (BCU) to throttle customers speed and usage. The BCU can monitor traffic based on IP or MAC, the problem is since all of the DSL traffic goes directly to the router the BCU can not see the traffic. Is there a way to forward the traffic out of the router onto the switch before it goes to the outside world?
Here is a copy of my current config on the router.

Ruby# exitHello Nagendra,
Thanks for reply. Yes that is correct. I want my 1 PW traffic over LDP based LSP while the other PW to same destination 1.1.1.1 over TE tunnel. Please note that I have Cisco 2921 router as PE and it seems that it does not support "preferred-path interface" feature.
Please see the output from my router:
PE2(config)#pseudowire-class test1
PE2(config-pw-class)#encapsulation mpls
PE2(config-pw-class)#?
Pseudowire-class configuration commands:
default Set a command to its defaults
encapsulation Data encapsulation method
exit Exit from Pseudowire-class configuration mode
interworking Interworking options for pseudowire
no Negate a command or set its defaults
protocol Signaling protocol to use
status Enable pseudowire status extensions in label advertisement and label notification messages. This is not advised unless your
peer router also supports this functionality as it may lead to premature enabling of the dataplane on that peer.
In my question I have posted a link to this document http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios/12_2sr/12_2sra/feature/guide/srtunsel.html where "preferred-path interface" feature is explained but it is for 7600 platform. That is why I took a different approach to forward the traffic with route-map. Please advise. -
Display error message on the user profile modification page identity system
HI All,
I have created a workflow for chang attribute for email id. I have associated an external action to th workflow id which will check the emailid uniqueness in OID.
When an end user login to OAM user manager and clicks on update my profile, use can see a button with modify request beside email id. when user modifies email id and save the changes, we are able to display email id already exist message in the next page of user profile. but we need to display the message on the same page.
Can any one help us.
Thanks in Advance.You can do this using java script throwing an alert popup or you can check if the fields are initial in oninputprocessing and fill a variable like gv_error = 'Enter values of mandatory fields.' and display the same in layout using
<phtmlb:messageBar id = "messageBar"
type = "<%= gv_severity_str %>"
text = "error"/>
See this thread for more..

Hi All,
I need to develop a model using RMI, in which 2 way communication is possible. For example, if there are 3 server running on 3 diff. machine(or on same), they all should be able communicate with each other.
one and two way communication is possible.......but confuesed with 3 way.
Can anybody give some tips....
Thanks...

Design Considerations:
Additional account attributes - I decided to make account number, PIN, and account permissions attributes of
an account. I could just have easily created a special security object to
contain these data members. However, the implemntation, with respect to data structure
and accessing an element would be equivalent to what I have already done with
accounts. I put the accounts in an ArrayList an iterate the list to get the element.
Authenticate, Authorize, and grab the account - I decided that since I grab an account in
ATMImpl, I may as well call the security service with the client-supplied AccountInfo instance
and the Bank-supplied account instance as opposed to grabbing the account and/or bank again in
the security instance.
Account constructors - I expanded the account constructors to create PIN and permissions when an
account is created.
Transfer - A transfer is not exactly a withdrawl and a deposit, because a withdrawl connotes taking cash from
ant ATM whereas a transfer transaction should not decrease an ATM's cash-on-hand.
Transaction Notification - I call tn.toString for all transactions including getBalances. The idea is to see the
transaction details even in the case of a failure.
What to expect:
Everything comiles, rmic's, and executes as it should! -
Why does it seem like notify() acts like notifyAll() for threads?
I'm running a little exercise here:
class Reader extends Thread {
Calculator c;
String name ="Fred";
static int i = 0;
public Reader(Calculator calc) {
c = calc;
name = "Fred"+(i++);
public void run() {
synchronized(c) {
try {
System.out.println(name + " is waiting for calculation...");
c.wait();
} catch (InterruptedException e) {}
System.out.println("Total is: " + c.total + " for "+name);
public static void main(String [] args) {
Calculator calculator = new Calculator();
new Reader(calculator).start();
new Reader(calculator).start();
new Reader(calculator).start();
try {
Thread.sleep(1000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.out.println("Got interrupted");
calculator.start();
class Calculator extends Thread {
int total;
public void run() {
synchronized(this) {
for(int i=0;i<100;i++) {
total += i;
System.out.println("Notifying start");
notify();
System.out.println("Notifying end");
}the output is
Fred0 is waiting for calculation...
Fred1 is waiting for calculation...
Fred2 is waiting for calculation...
Notifying start
Notifying end
Total is: 4950 for Fred0
Total is: 4950 for Fred2
Total is: 4950 for Fred1
I expect only one "Total is: ..." output to come out since I expect only one thread to wake up from its waiting state from that notify() call. However all three threads wake up. What am I misunderstanding? I thought a thread waits forever unless you pass a time parameter into wait()... or am I wrong?
Edited by: lapchern on Nov 17, 2009 12:53 PMWell, first of all, don't discard Exceptions and then wonder about the behaviour of a program :-).
But that's not the issue here. From some quick testing, I didn't get the same behaviour when I ran using wait/notify on a lock object, not the thread itself:
public class WaitNotify extends Thread {
Calculator c;
String name ="Fred";
static int i = 0;
public WaitNotify(Calculator calc) {
c = calc;
name = "Fred"+(i++);
public void run() {
synchronized(c.lock) {
try {
System.out.println(name + " is waiting for calculation...");
c.lock.wait();
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
System.out.println("Total is: " + c.total + " for "+name);
public static void main(String [] args) {
Calculator calculator = new Calculator();
new WaitNotify(calculator).start();
new WaitNotify(calculator).start();
new WaitNotify(calculator).start();
try {
Thread.sleep(1000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.out.println("Got interrupted");
calculator.start();
class Calculator extends Thread {
int total;
final Object lock = new Object();
public void run() {
synchronized(lock) {
for(int i=0;i<100;i++) {
total += i;
System.out.println("Notifying start");
lock.notify();
System.out.println("Notifying end");
}Not sure ATM why that is, but it's I think best practice not to lock on the Thread itself and instead a different Object, so there's a fix. It'll give you a place to start investigating.
Edit: Might be good to look at the [Javadoc for Object.wait()|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Object.html#wait()]:
...interrupts and spurious wakeups are possible, and this method should always be used in a loop:
synchronized (obj) {
while (<condition does not hold>)
obj.wait();
... // Perform action appropriate to condition

hi all ,
i want to mention issue about cisco router 7206 npeg2 :
can this router handle traffic 780 Mbps as download and 75 MBps as upload ?? with cpu 85 % and with LLQ qos ??
im asking this question because my QOS althoug it matched alot of traffic , it some time get slow and seems that QOS not working fine , im sure that my work is fine, because it was fine , but recent days i added more bw ???!!!!!
dont know if need more memory for router for QOS :

I already mention the TurboACL feature statement. With ACLs, fewer are faster, and how they ordered (especially without TurboACL) impacts CPU. How you order you class-maps, within a policy, and how the match statements are ordered will also have some impact on the CPU load. If buffers are being allocated/deallocated, that too will impact CPU loading. I assume CEF is enabled, but for some traffic, flow caching might decrease CPU load.Remember a software based router, like the 7200s, are, more or less, a computer that takes your configuration and determines what's to be done with every packet it "sees". The more your configuration requires for per packet analysis, the more load for each packet.There are whitepapers addressing high CPU load caused by "process switching", but what you posted appears to be mostly all interrupt processing, which is "fast path", or optimal, packet forwarding. There's not much you can normally do to improve against that, other than insuring your configuration is as optimal as possible for your needs (again, things like sequencing/ordering of statements).
hi ,
thanks very very much for this nice information,
let me answer you :
you said that NPE G2 has finite capacity , but how to know this full capacity ???
i mean that my policy map is matching the traffic , but the matched traffic is not being enhancemend ??!!!
last about two weeks , the matched traffic of youtube was excellent and no interrupt durting the my rush hour.
i didnt change any thing, but my bw increased from 730 Mbps to 760Mbps ,
im un able to make sure that i need to chnage my platform to faster one.
agian
my cpu is 60 % without QOS
after QOS it increase to 80-85 %
agian ,
about NBAR
i want to tell you that i cant depend on NBAR , as an example , im matching the ips of videos of facebook , i cant depend on NBAR because it is https videos.
but in summary ,
my qos is matching well , but i have no real enhancement for my traffic.
did you face my issue before ???
i mean have you see like my problem ?
like my router platform with cpu over 80 % and 750Mbps , and matched qos without good result ??
note that i upgraded to iso 15 , but seems same issue !!!
regards -
Dear All
I have 7200 router, it was runing 124-4.XD3 IOS, the CPU was working normal avarage around 15%, its use for L2TP users, it was have avarage 2000 concurrent L2TP connection, there was no CPU consuming.
Then for business plan we change the IOS to 12.2(33)SR and configured Broadband aggregation, after that the CPU become higher day after day even the PPPoE and L2TP session not more than 900 concurrent. the CPU reach 60%, even in non-peak hours it reach 50%

QaesHi There,
Just want to share a tip on ow to filter your CPU utilisation on your Cisco router. I find alias commands handy and use them all the time. From the config mode, you can type as below.
R(config)#alias exec cpu sho process cpu sorted | exc 0.00%__0.00%__0.00%
This will create an alias called cpu, from priviledge mode, you can then type cpu and it will filter all process' that are not consuming the CPU, this is done with the help of exc [exclude]. This excludes all process' with 0% utilisation.
Below is my example on one of my routers.
Thanks,

DSL Internet down in Brooklyn (11220)?
My DSL connection was working fine till 2 hours ago when the internet suddenly stopped working. I've reset the modem multiple times (Westell 7500) but I can't get an internet connection. The DSL light is solid green, but the internet light is off.
Are any neighbors seeing this issue? Sounds like the modem can't contact PPPoE or DHCP servers Verizon has for your region.
Give Verizon a call and see if the automated system is able to detect any issue with the line. If not, ask the Verizon Tech Support rep who answers to run an ATM OAM Ping test against your line to see if it responds back if they don't spot anything wrong with the account. If not, your circuit probably needs to be rebuilt or something else deeper is going on with your curcuit or the equipment you're attached to. Expect for them to have you reset and re-configure your modem from scratch using your PPPoE login, so have your Verizon username and password handy as this is one troubleshooting step (a good one, too) they will attempt before going deeper.

Workflows are not shown in the OAM aplications front end but exists in LDAP
Hi
In my OAM application, Workflows are not shown in the front end but exists in LDAP. Any idea how the workflows are displayed on the front end.
due to this not there in production, when i tried to create a user, it says i donot have access rights.
When i try to create and add workflows in the LDAP, the server rejects with the following error:

Imlpementing EULA / end user declaration using OIM/OAM
Hi,
We have a requirement in which we have to make user accept EULA /end user declaration prior to adding details in portal, does any one has pointers on how to do the same using OIM/OAM.
Early response would be much appreciated.I would have done it in this way: Assuming you have decent knowledge of using existing components of OOTB connector for re-usability. Also I have never tried this, its just an approach which could possibly work.
- The only way for an end user to change its own password in OIM is via self-service which means the tcUtilityFactory would be instantiated by the user itself. If that is the case then you can obtain the User ID in the pre-insert entity adapters/plugin. Now when the password reset operation is being done, you can check the User ID of the Logged In user and the Target User and take a decision whether it was the user itself or some other admin.
- If it was some other admin then you can set the Force Password Change at next Logon check-box in the User Profile to true.
- Now modify the Change User Password task to use the IT Resource connection credentials if that check box is selected to create a connection OR use the credentials form the Process Form if that check box is not selected.
This way the connection to the LDAP would be done via the user itself if it was a self-service password reset and your LDAP Policy would have no complaints.
Assumption The user has the permissions to establish a JNDI connection with SDS and modify its own account which I am sure would be there.
Thanks

Odd Tunnel Interface behavior - one end requires "no keepalive"
Where's the quick version. Tunnel between sites A & B. This is GRE o IPSEC, but I don't think that's the issue. Tunnel comes up and works great when: site A has no keepalives and site B has no keepalives, and it works when Site A has keepalives turned on and Site B does not. The moment I turn on keepalives on site B, the tunnel goes down.
This isn't a simple config. Site A is an MPLS PE, meaning the Tunnel interface is configured with an fVRF and iVRF. Site B has no VRF's - it is the CE.
Any ideas on how to fix? I need Site B's Tunnel interface to go down when connectivity fails. My current workaround is to use EIGRP to update the routing tables. I need to be able to support redundant paths with static and floating routes.Like this;
