Fr me it's all'r nothin' - Handling all channels as a unit
Premiere Elements 8.
A) Tasks:
1. Clear everything between 01:00 and 02:00 on all channels.
2. Delete everything between 01:00 and 02:00 on all channels (i.e. clear + close gaps).
B) Task:
Given a PE8 project, create a new project and import the former as a single clip.
How would one go about carrying out the above tasks?
From what you wrote in another thread, i understand that it's easier done in the Pro edition, where you can host several subprojects in a single project. Is this correct?
Not exactly, as I will try to explain.
First, a little history lesson:
In earlier versions of PrE, there was both the File>Export and also the Share tab. In PrE 8, it appears that everything was moved to the Share tab, but they forgot to remove the Export from the File drop-down. Now, going back, there was a bit of overlap between the two, so I understand why Adobe moved Export into Share. The term, Share, doesn't roll off my tongue, but I can see the positive marketing aspects of that. Anyway, in PrE 8, all exporting is under the Share tab, and the various sub-menus and drop-downs.
Jump over to PrPro. In earlier versions of PrPro, there was the File>Export with several selections in the fly-out menu. Movie and Adobe Media Encoder (AME) were two. Again, there was a touch of overlap, but the two were under the same File>Export location. As of CS4, the File>Export>Movie went away, and everything goes through AME. Now, AME is a stand-alone program, though CAN be called from within PrPro. What this did was allow for one to load up the AME with several Sequences (those mini-Projects that I spoke of). One can then Export via AME several Sequences, while still working in PrPro - both batch processing, and a method to free up PrPro for more work. In the past, when you Exported, the program was otherwise unusable.
In the past, one could only Export one of those Sequences at a time. Not so now that AME has been broken out and is a stand-alone. Most old-time users went ballistic, as they could not find there old Export options, and also resented having to use a stand-alone program, even if they could load and call it from within PrPro. Most of that clamor has subsided, but not completely.
For me, the idea of Sequences is one close to my heart. I edit in them, as though they were "chapters," or "scenes." I Import them into Encore (my authoring program) as individual Timelines. I work with them as Chapters there. Until CS4, I had to Export the Video for Sequence 01, then the Audio for that Sequence. I'd move to Sequence 02 and do the same thing. Each Sequence would be handled the same way. Now, with CS4, I can load up all Sequences (actually twice), set the first instance to Export Video-only and the second instance to Export Audio-only, for ALL Sequences. I start the queue and turn my back. I can do all sorts of work, even in PrPro, while AME chugs away.
Now, there are several file types, and CODEC's on my machine, that will Export/Share directly out of PrE, that will not Export from PrPro. Things like DivX can be directly handled out of PrE, but not out of PrPro. Differences. There are others that are available in PrPro, but not in PrE, like DLT tape, etc.
I'd judge the speed of Export to be very similar between the two programs. The main difference is that PrPro CS4 can Export a bunch of stuff at one time and can also do it while one edits, but it takes a couple keystrokes to load it up, determine what is to be done, and then start the queue. PrE needs focus to Export/Share, but can do it with one click (after the settings are established).
It's not really about quicker, or better, just differences. Sorry that I wasn't totally clear on this.
There are other differences, in that PrE can also author a DVD-Video and do so easily, with some semi-automation. PrPro CS4 cannot. One must use Encore, or similar, and then all of the authoring is done by hand. There is no semi-automation, though with that extra work come vast power. Again, there is no better, just quick and neat from one program, or slower, great and with almost infinite power, using two programs.
We get a lot of users, who are new to Encore on that forum, but have used programs like PrE. They cannot believe that there is no automation and that a user must do it all by hand. Most, however, are soon seduced by the power. It's just not what they were used to.
Hope that this clears things up a bit,

Teamviewer - All positions in Org Unit display depth between EP5 and EP6
We are in the process of upgrading our HR Portal from Version 5 to Version 6 (SP14) and have encountered an issue with the Team viewer functionality.
In our EP5 system when the user selects the dropdown option for 'All positions in org unit' it is picking up our Configuration limiting it to showing only 3 structure levels and when an attempt is made to display lower levels the expander changes but no more levels are shown (e.g. Expander icon changes but does not render the lower level).
In our EP6 system when the user selects the dropdown option for 'All positions in org unit' it is ignoring the same Configuration and lets the user select down to the bottom of the organisation. This will obviously have serious performance implications and so must be corrected if we are to implement this upgrade.
To test the situation we deployed the following par files from our EP5 system to our EP6 system and found that we achieved the required result of only allowing the configured levels to be shown:
com.sap,pct.hcm.objectanddatprovider.par
com.sap,pct.hcm.orgmanagementeventing.par
com.sap,pct.hcm.teamviewer.par
This points to an issue between these files from the EP5 version to the EP6 version.
Has anyone else experienced an issue with how the EP6 teamviewer handles the 'All positions in Org Unit' selection, and if so can you let me know any solution you have to it?
(Note: This selection used Eval Path MDTSBESX)

Unfortunately the only standard functionality is to change the rankings of the positions within transaction ppome. Therefore you have the buttons 'Move up in rank' and 'Move down in rank' in the overview area of the ppome. As you know if the field PRIOX in the table hrp1001 is empty, the transaction sorts the positions by OBJID. So perhaps you could create a abap program to change this standard functionality to insert values into field PRIOX for the corresponding relationship in HRP1001 that you want to sort.

How can I get a list of all channels of a device?
I'm writing a software for use in a couple of our labs to be run as an executable i.e. without LabView being installed on all machines.
Now there's also a couple of different daq hardwares in use. So I planned to have a config tool where the user can choose the appropriate - physical, not virtual - daq devices and channels like: temperature 1 measured by device 1, analog input 2.
Therefore I'd need a list of all available daq devices (which is somewhat possible) together with a list of all channels of a particular device. Is there any way to get this?
Unfortunately I don't want to use virtual channels since I don't want to bother the user with configuring them and btw I don't know if virtual channels work wit
h the pure run-time module of an executable.
Thanks!
DanielHello Daniel,
You can use virtual channels with executables and there is actually a way to transfer the virtual channel configurations to the target computers so your users would never need to mess with configuring virtual channels. Once you have configured virtual channels, you can save the configuration within a .daq file. You can then include that .daq file as a support file of the executable and programmatically set the configuration of the target machine. The linked document below illustrates how to accomplish this.
How Do I Port a DAQ Configuration File With an Executable?
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/CB83B101E19EF83086256A3E0054206C
If you do not want to use virtual channels, the only other thing I can think of is to use the Get_D
AQ_Device_Info VI or function call. You can get a device code when using this VI or call and each code is associated with a specific instrument. You would then have to know (use the device's user manual) to determine how many channels the corresponding device has. Without virtual channels, you would have to use a channel number (0,1,2,...etc) and would not be able to use a string ("temperature 1 measured by device 1").
So, I think using virtual channels and transferring the .daq file to the target machines with the executable will be the best option. I hope this helps.

I see "Get DAQ Channel Names.VI" and "Get Channel Information.VI" but I just want to get the name of just channel 0, or just channel 1. Is using an array of all channel names the only way I can do this?
I have Labview 6.1.
THANKS!!!
LaurenLauren,
Yes, currently that is the best way to go about accomplishing that. I attached a little VI that demonstrates a very basic way of finding the first virtual channel that uses device channel 1.

Fieldpoint get info on 'all' channel
Hello
Can somebody, please, tell me how to get info which channels are in the 'all' channel?
I know how to do it in MAX and in project, but, how to get the info in *.vi?
For example, in my item xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\FP\2AI\All are channels 2,4,7 and 8.
The output array from 'FP Read' has 4 values, corresponding to channel 2,4, and 8.
I need that together with the output array from 'FP Read', I get somehow info which channels are measured?
ThanksHello
Now, I am confused by your answer
In the project explorer, I can do the following (see attachments).
Depending on how many channels I choose, the size of the output array from 'FP Read' changes.
Please see the Item 'All', and the item 'bla'.
Also notice that, although they share common channels, they do not give the same values, because of the scaling.
So, I want to know, which channels are in the items (item can be named 'All', or any other name), and if possible get info on the scaling.
Thanks or any help

Thank you for the reply. So, there is no screen that shows all the responsibilities that are assigned to a operating unit.
The link that you provided really did not give any information that i was looking for.
And as you said .. "there is no specific screen to show all except responsibilities form".... what does the responsibilities form show,
I have also tried to look in the System Administrator -> Profile -> System
and in the Responsibility, I query for Payables manager, and look which Orgs are assigned to it, I am not able to find it. I know I am wrong, but can you please help me how to see which responsiblity is assigned to which Operating Unit.
Thank you -

DIAdem 2012 displaying all channels as "Noname" for .tdm files
Hi
I'm experiencing a problem with DIAdem 2012 when opening .tdm files.
I've reinstalled all NI software components, and still the problem remains.
All channels are displayed as "Noname", "Noname_1" etc.
Even worse, all values are displayed as either "0" or "NOVALUE".
See attached image for example.
The attached image is displaying the "Example.tdm" file which is opened by default when starting DIAdem.
When opening the "Example.csv" file the problem is not there (channels have names such as "Time", "Velocity" and values).
So what could be the problem related to reading/loading .tdm files? (Note, as I said, I just reinstalled DIAdem from scratch)

DIAdem_noname.jpg 270 KBHi salte,
"TDM_DataPlugin" is the default name that the ASCII DataPlugin Wizard would give to a DataPlugin you or someone else created to open files with a "*.tdm" file extension. I'm betting that's where it came from-- the behavior you see in the Data Portal is also consistent with loading a TDM file as if it were an ASCII file. DIAdem does not install this DataPlugin, and I highly recommend that you remove it.
To remove the DataPlugin, go to the DataPlugin dialog, select the the "TDM_DataPlugin" in the list, and hit the red "X" icon or the <Delete> key on your keyboard. To get to this dialog first start in either the NAVIGATOR or SCRIPT panel, then depending on your DIAdem version select one of the following two menu paths:
"Settings >> Options >> Extensions >> DataPlugins..."
"Settings >> Extensions >> DataPlugins..."
Once you've removed the "TDM_DataPlugin", you will again be able to drag TDM files from the NAVIGATOR tree view into the Data Portal.

Export all Channels to Excel without a dialog or a stp file
Hello,
i try to write a vbs script that export all channels that exists to excel without a dialog. By the reson that i don´t know exactly how many channels are generated while the measurement i can´t use a stp file. I tried to set all variables but everytime i get a global error (excelstat=100).
Since this problem was discussed in 2006 ( http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=60&message.id=2115&query.id=95137#M2115) perhabs there is a solution now with Diadem 10.2, besides generate the stp file in the script or hold stp files for any possible number of channels.
Thanks for the help

Message Edited by diademi on 04-24-2008 10:10 AMHi diademi,
Nothing has changed in DIAdem since then, but you do have several options. First and foremost, you can save the data as a TDM file and use the freely downloadable TDM Excel Add-in to load the TDM file into Excel. This has the advantage that it's extremely fast but the disadvantage that it's completely inflexible as to where and how the written values show up in Excel.
http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4906
If that doesn't work for you, you can export the data channels into an ASCII file, as mentioned in the older link. This has the advantage that it's fast but the disadvantage that it's not very flexible as to where and how the written values show up in Excel.
Finally, you can export your data channels into an Excel file using ActiveX calls in a DIAdem VBScript. This has the advantage that it's flexible in where and how you write the values, but the disadvantage that it's comparatively slow, especially for large data sets.
Let me know what sounds most promising, and I'll send you code. Also, please confirm whether you're using Excell 2007 or an earlier version.

Let all channels(with same data structure)run one program
Hello,
I want to let all channels with same data structure run one program, how can i program it?
Thanks!Hi charleen,
You're going to need to provide more details for us to help you. In general "channels" do not "run" programs. You can, however, run a program which loops over channels, checks their properties, and decides whether to include them in the overall analysis. What do you mean by "data structure"?
What do you want to actually happen in the "program"?

Finding All Channel Objects?
I am working on an audio player that will take a parameter
from a web page and play the appropriate MP3 file. Each page in a
series of pages calles the same movie. It works but I have a
seriouis problem with the code. If the user navigates to the next
page while the current page is still playing the audio, the new
audio is played on top of the older clip. I suspect that each time
the same movie is called, a new SoundChannel object is being
created.
I'd like to come up with a function to search all current
objects that are not in the display list and issue a Stop command
to all existing SoundChannel objects.
Does anyone know if it is possible to write a function to do
this? Have you written such a function? I can't come up with any
other way to stop the currenlty playing audio automatically. I
can't rely on the user to stop it manually...
The SoundMixer.stopAll(); doesn't work, I've tried it. :-(
TIA
Peter H.Peter,
> Finally, I have a function to play the sound with a
line:
>
> _channel = _snd.play(_pausePosition);
Everything you've described sounds fine. For what it's
worth, you don't
actually have to wait until the sound fully loads before
issuing the
Sound.play() method (the sound will progressively download,
which means it
starts playing as soon as enough data have loaded) -- but
again, your
description so far sounds just fine.
> I suspect that each time the SWF is called to play
another
> MP3, the code is creating another Channel object and
> playing the newly requested MP3.
This is the part that puzzled me at first, but now I think I
understand.
What I missed in my first read-through was that the new page
starts playing
while the initial page is still open. That means there are
two instances of
Flash Player running, each with the same SWF, but a different
parameter.
Even though both instances of Flash Player are playing the
same SWF, each
instance comprises its own unique world. You can't (easily)
enumerate the
objects in both SWFs in a collaborative way, because they're
separate
entities -- twins, if you will, but still unique human
beings.
> Specifically, I was thinking that if I had a way to
identify
> all Channel objects instantiated within this movie, I
could
> just do something to unload them all from memory to
> ensure none were already playing.
By the looks of it, each of your SWF instances, across
x-number of HTML
pages, has a single, named SoundChannel instance: _channel.
So it isn't as
if you really have to search for instances -- you know them
at this point --
it's that you have to get separate SWFs to speak to each
other and figure
out who needs to keep mum.
Off the top of my head, I can imagine using JavaScript to
feed a second
parameter to the SWF that a given page opens. The first
parameter, of
course, is the MP3 to play. The second parameter could be a
timestamp.
This way, each page has an "age," and you could feasibly
communicate from
SWF to SWF with instructions that only the youngest SWF be
allowed to play.
Inter-SWF communication happens with the LocalConnection
class. You set
up an arbitrarily named line of communication, then "listen"
to that line.
SWFs can also send messages over one or more lines. See if
that gets you
started, and be sure to come back if you have additional
questions. I'm
interested in this topic myself now, so I'll try to work up a
proof of
concept on my own and we can swap notes. :)

No matter what values I put in the corresponding channel index, all channels appear to be using the 'first' index of the limit cluster. I am using a PCI-6110E 5Ms board and LabVIEW 5.0. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
If you want to have different input limits for the different channels, you need to make sure the channels are listed in separate Channel indexes as well. For example, if your channel array index 0 reads "0:7", then channels 0 through 7 will all use the input limit settings in the input limit array's index 0.
Instead, enter "0" in Channel Array index 0,
"1" in Channel Array index 1, etc. -
Where's the limit? Assume a new Dell Latitude running NT with 128 MB RAM and a fast P3. Equip it with the DAQCard-AI-16E-4 connected to an SCXI chassis with 2 SCXI-1125 modules.
How fast can I run the sample rate (per channel) if I want to do continuous DAQ on all 16 channels while computing the power spectrum of all channels once per second (using one second's worth of samples)?
The DAQCard has a tiny FIFO, and I'm hoping to use pretriggered scans so I don't have to wait for data. Is that an option without the DMA functionality of the PCI E-Series boards? Without it I will have to constantly empty the FIFO into a "software" b
uffer which will cost boku (many) processor cycles, correct?
So what say the experts... how fast can this thing run? How about if I ditch the laptop and go PXI with the whole deal? Lets make the case!
Thank you!I believe the PCMCIA interface is going to be the limiting factor in this case. The maximum continuous rate for a DAQCard will vary from computer to computer, but it isn't extremely fast.
Being optimistic, let's estimate 64 K samples/second. I don't know if this is high or low nowadays, but it is higher than I could ever achieve a couple of years ago. Divide that by your 16 channels, and you have 4K blocks. I think you could process this in 1 second easily. This gives you 1 Hz resolution up to 2 Khz.
Now, if you ditch the laptop and go to PXI, it is a whole different story. DAQ rates will not be the limiting factor. You just need to find out how large of a block you can process and keep up.
My approach to this problem would be to figure out what analysi
s you need, then figure out what hardware can accomplish it. Do you really need 1 Hz resolution? Do you need to process every bit of data that comes in? Are you going to store the results, or just display them on the screen? Can you do post-processing of the data if necessary?
