Frame around screen broke

I have a Pavilion dv7 laptop which has a warrenty that ran out about 6 months ago. It fell about 3-5 feet onto a wood floor and the backside of one of the hinges popped off. I thought nothing of it, I considered it just a cosmetic flaw and nothing to worry about. But now the frame around the screen is popping open/outwards and i dont want to close the laptop because Im afraid I'll be forcing it and I'll break it even more.
So my question is what can I do about the hinge/frame of the screen breaking? Does HP offer any sort of repairs? I mean it's fairly annoying that this is all because the plastic back of the hinge somehow popped out from a fall (it didnt break it just popped off/out
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Laptops are not made to sustain a 3 to 5 foot drop onto a hard surface. You are lucky it still works at all. Is the hinge still OK? Does it work smoothly or bind up? I frankly would need to see a picture to tell you exactly which parts you may need but all the metal and plastic parts are available and can be replaced.
The hinges are here, but there are dozens more like this set on eBay for sale:

Here is the frame around the screen i.e. bezel:

This part would be available in your specific color.
Here is the Service Manual:

This repair is way easier than a motherboard replacement and would be doable by anyone with modest screwdriver skills. HP would charge you an arm and a leg....a couple hundred dollars at least if they would even do it. Same with Geek Squad. Post back if you need any more help.

  • Raised metal frame around screen higher on right side.

I am a recent Iphone 3G buyer. I noticed after a few weeks that the metal frame surrounding the screen is higher on the right side than on the left. It isn't flush at all. Occasionally dirt or specks of dust get wedged in along the raised metal frame on the right, and when I slide my finger on the screen from left to right, it feels noticeably higher. Perhaps this is how they are made....and for a reason. A friend with the original Iphone said that on his model, the entire metal frame is lower than the screen, rather than flush. I am curious if others with the 3G have this raised frame issue.
    Thanks

It's not really a gap. It's just that the metal frame is slightly raised on the right side of the phone where it meets the glass. It's slight, but I'm curious if it's this way with all of them, or should it be absolutely flush, so that when you swipe your fingers across the screen, you don't feel the slightly raised metal frame.

  • Frame around screen comes off

Any idea how to stop the corner of the white plastic frame to come off? How can I get to the back of the frame to clamp it back in?
    Thank you.

    Hello Lionel,
Please be aware that there are some pretty hefty voltages in one of these machines... Enough to kill!!!
Pretty easy to do though, if you follow the instructions carefully and take the required safety precautions.
    Good luck.

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Black Frame Around Slides when Playing

    Hi!
I recently became a Mac user (ok, in the last year) and love it. I use keypoint a lot because I'm a teacher, however I've been a little disappointed that I always have to export my presentations and use a PC when I want to project/play my slides for my classes because whenever I start to play my slides there is a thick, black frame around each slide (only when it's playing, when I'm creating my slides, there's no "frame" of any sort). If I try playing a ppt show, the same black frame pops up. It's really frustrating because I want to be able to use my Macbook when presenting.
How can I make this stop? When I play my slides I want them to take up the whole screen, not be surrounded by black!

If you're using 1024x768 or 800x600, you're going to get bars on the left an right because those are "normal" resolutions and your monitor is "widescreen". You'd have to use one of the "widescreen" resolution presentation sizes to get rid of those.

I'm assuming you can..now I don't know the prices for your area, you'll have to check around, I just did a quick web search and I'm pulling all sorts of prices up, I'd look into a repair facility near you and see what they can do for you :-) shouldn't be too expensive though! Good luck!

  • EEWB - frame around the fields.

    Hi gurus,
    could you please help me.
I've added new fields to the business transaction item in CRM using EEWB - extension type = Customer_I. But there is no any frame around them on the customer tab's screen.
It's possible to draw a frame in SE51 (screen painter), but this frame disappears after a new field addition to the extension and a new extension's generation.
Could you please provide any solution of how to make a frame without it's further disappearing after a new fields addition.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sunny.

    Hi there,
As hint captions are text captions and fill cannot be applied to text captions. You can either select transparent captions or captions with callouts.
So you can use available callaouts in the Captivate Gallery under captions (Captivate installation directory > Gallery > captions), and use that one which has a frame.
    Thanks.

  • Nice simple frame around photo

I have a number of photos that I need to put on a site.
I would like the photos to have a simple frame around them.
I realize this is a pretty basic question, and I can think of several ways to do it, but since I am doing a bunch of them I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.
The built in frames in Fireworks CS4 Auto shapes panel are too fancy for what I want.
Attached is a screen capture of what I would like.  Notice that it's a photo inside of a while frame with a slight drop shadow. I might want to make the white frame a few pixels wider, but the example JPG is basically what I want.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Rowby

If you want a way that you can get that effect using a batch process then I may have a way. Once you get this tweaked, make it a command and run the command in the batch. I have a movie on this part, if interested I'll find it :-)
    open an image
apply a Photoshop stroke, outside, 4 pixels white. You need to tweak settings to get sharp square edges. I didn't do that part.
Apply a FW glow: In property inspector select Shadow nd Glow, width of 1, gray, offset and distance 0 and opacity 100%
Select shadow and glow again and add a drop shawdow.
Once it looks the way you want make a command

  • How do I Add a Picture Frame Around a Flash Video?

I tried searching for this but "frame" has too many meanings. I have flv videos inserted in several web pages, but they look dull without some sort of fancy border or frame around them. Maybe a picture frame. Maybe the image of a flat screen TV surrounding the image. But how do I add the image "behind" the video so that the video sits perfectly inside the image, regardless of the monitor viewing the image.

Do a google search for the IE PNG Fix javascript.  Some work better than others.  The one you had didn't work at all for PNG backgrounds in pre-IE7.
Copy and Paste the following document into a new blank page and see how it looks in all the major browsers.  I changed your document type to XHTML transitional and replaced deprecated <div align> tags with inline CSS styles.  I also ran your Flash code through http://validifyer.com to make it XHTML compliant.

  • Ipod gen 6 after updated fw 1.2 has a frame on screen

i have the ipod nano gen 6, today i just update to fw 1.2 by itunes, after that my ipod has frame on screen and every button. i can't even open an icon. how do i fix it?

    Hello xXGenieXx,
The steps below detail how to go about turning off VoiceOver on your iPod Nano.
From the Home Screen, swipe right or left with two fingers until you see or hear "Page 2 of 2" on iPod nano (7th generation) or "Settings" on iPod (6th generation).
If the icons have been rearranged, or if there are more than four Home screens, you may hear something different.
Slide one finger around the screen until you hear Settings.
    Double-tap to open Settings.
Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear General, then double- tap.
Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear Accessibility, then double-tap.
Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear VoiceOver, then double-tap.
Double-tap when you hear "VoiceOver switch button on."
You'll hear "VoiceOver off" to confirm the setting. Now you can use standard gestures to control iPod nano.
Note: You can also turn off VoiceOver by resetting your iPod.

  • Black frame around clip?

    Hello
I have a movie clip (saved as a .mov file) and I have noticed that it plays with a black frame around it whether I play it on the desktop (WMP) or on a DVD. The original VHS (C) tape fills the whole TV screen (there is no black frame) and I wondered how I may remove the black frame.
    These are my export settings
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
    have Presets = PAL DV
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab set
    Video Codec = H.264
I then change the frame dimensions as follows:
    Frame Width = 768 pixels
    Frame Height = 576 pixels
Frame Rate = 25 frames per second
    Field Type = Progressive
    Aspect = Square Pixels (1.0)
For DVD, I choose PAL Dolby (not widescreen).
    Thank you.
    Steve

    Hello ATR
Thanks for coming back to me.
    This is wahat you posted:
    Steve
If you can get PAL footage for your .mov fine. If not, and you are left with the NTSC counterpart, here is the plan (grand plan or dud). Let us see
Import your 640 x 480 @ 30 frames per second into Premiere Elements with the NTSC DV Standard project preset (you will probably have to set the project preset yourself manually before you import the file...to do that File Menu/New/Project, change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard, and, before exiting the new project dialog, make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". Then import your file with Add Media/Project Assets.
In Project Assets, right click the thumbnail for the file there and select Interpret Footage. In the Frame Rate section of the Interpret Footage dialog, dot "Assume this frame rate" and fill in 25.00. Leave the rest as is which should be with Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0).
When you are ready to export, give the following a try:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
    have Presets = PAL DV
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab set
    Video Codec = H.264
    Frame Width = 768 pixels
    Frame Height = 576 pixels
Frame Rate = 25 frames per second
    Field Type = Progressive
    Aspect = Square Pixels (1.0)
For now leave everything else as is.
At playback, check the quality of the video and audio as well as flow of the motion.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.
    ATR
    Is that what you mean?
    Steve

  • Black frame around slides

I like the slideshow option in iDVD, but I would like to stretch the pictures all over my TV screen. Now, there is a large black frame around every slide. Is this possible?

To solve this problem to "iDVD" in the menu and choose "Preferences".
Choose the third tab called "Slideshow", you will get a panel with three checkboxes, uncheck the second ("Adjust dia size to tv-area") to fix the issue.
(The option names and descriptions might be incorrect since we use a Dutch MacOSX version.)

  • Black frame around marker

After installing 10.4.8 today I have acquired a black frame around the marker. It is roughly 1/6 of the screen and highly annoying. Feeling utterly stupid, I can't seem to find out how to switch it off.
    Thanks for your help!
    PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I knew I'd seen the rectangle before! I installed 10.4.8 this morning and on restart got the black rectangle. I guessed it had something to do with Universal Access (which I don't use), so I checked the System Preferences to be sure it was turned off. However, I didn't go far enough and turn off the preview bit. I was all set to reinstall 10.4.7 when I saw this solution. Thank you SO much!
