Frame by frame animation, trying again

or something wrong with the way I am asking it? Mainly I want
to know if am am even using the right tool for this task. And why
the helll this is not working?
I am doing a frame by frame animation of something I brought
in from Illustrator. I have 20 keyframes, each with one (slightly
different) symbol. I need this to move accross the screen.
How does one do it, I must be missing something, this must
come up all the time in frame by frame animation. I need the
symbols to be distribited exactly same distance apart.
I tried using the "align/distribute" feature the same way I
know it from illustrator, and it is just kind of working. I check
"edit all frames" make sure all the keyframes are selected and then
go to the align panel and distribute the centers of all symbols.
What goes wrong is this: it distributes them, but out of
order. Instead of putting frame 2 couple pixels to the right from
frame 1, it puts it right at the end where I would like the frame
#20. the middle then seems in the right order but beginning and end
are always mixed up.
Is the distribute feature the best way of doing this , and
why am I having this problem?

thank you so much for talking to me. I didn't realize
tweening applied to frame by frame animation. So I create a motion
tween btw each key frame?
What I don't understand is: I want to be able to take the
symbol in the last keyframe, drag it away from the rest of the
symbols that are all aligned, and then get them to distribute
automaticaly in their own keyframes. This is really done best
through tweening? I thought this would only worked if all the in
between steps were not keyframes.
When I select all the keyframes at once and tween them they
do not distribute.
But I am probably not doing this right, I don't have time to
experiment right now, I just wanted to say thanks.

  • Frame Animation duration is different when I render out.

Hi, everyone. I am using Photoshop CS6 to make Frame animation. I created 57 frame with each duration 0.08 second was set.
However when I render out, the video seem much quicker than I preview in PS (H.264 1080p 29.97).
Then I check the duration of the video, it's only 3.24second long, by doing the math (57 * 0.08s) it should be 4.56s long.
I've check all my fps setting, I've tried render out 24fps , 29.97 fps or 30 fps, all go for the result of shorten length.
Can anyone help out ? thankyou.

Then I check the duration of the video, it's only 3.24second long, by doing the math (57 * 0.08s) it should be 4.56s long.
But then again, 1s divided by 29.97 is not 0.08s, is it not? If you want to obsess about math, then by all means do it right. You have a fundamental misunderstanding here and are not working to spec.

  • Multiple problems with installation and stop frame animation

I have just spent 24 hours of increasing frustration trying to install and use On Location. I recently bought a Matrox RTX 2 Premiere CS3 desktop edit suite. On Location recognises any camera I attach via the drop down menu but will never display a video image or activate any capture commands. An afternoon with my dealer's tech support did not find a solution.
Next I tried installing it on my Vaio laptop. It would not display the menu bar, but components would display, my camera was recognised, and I managed to capture avi type 2 files in mpeg at 1080i PAL. These will play back on the laptop in media player but crash Premiere when I import them. Matrox say these files should be supported. After these tests, OnLocation began to crash the Vaio as soon as I plugged in a camera. The Vaio presents a black screen and the OS freezes completely, requiring a hard boot for recovery.
I have uninstalled it and attempted to install it in a brand new Vista HP laptop. The install crashes during activation. After 3 uninstall/reinstall attempts I gave up. I will now start again with a fresh install on the Vaio. Will report back if I make any progress today. Any suggestions meanwhile would be much appreciated.
The holy grail, by any means possible, is to capture stop frame animations in HDV 1080i PAL format. I need one laptop to work for capture, then to transfer the animation files to the desktop for editing.
    many thanks

Hi Martin,<br />Sorry to hear you're having such problems. I have no experience with Matrox system, so I cannot speak directly to compatibility with OnLocation CS3. For both computers, I'd be interested in seeing the system specs. If you're willing, how about sending the dxdiag file for each to me at [email protected] I'll see if anything jumps out at me.<br /><br />One detail that does not compute is your reference to recoring "avi type 2 files in mpeg at 1080i PAL." HDV content cannot be recorded to the AVI format. The only options are MPG and M2T. If the clips are indeed AVIs, then the camera must have been set to the DV mode.<br /><br />As for OnLocation crashing the computer so badly that a hard reboot is necessary, that generally points to some deeper problem in the computer's drivers or BIOS. When it gets into that state, have you tried bringing up Windows Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE) and killing the OnLocation process? I'm wondering if the system isn't totally locked up but appears to be so because on this low res display, OnLocation has basically taken over the whole display, so when it fails to launch, you can't see any other Windows controls. If this is the case, then deleting the AppProps file here: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\OnLocation CS3.<br /><br />btw, the reason you see no menu bar is that the laptop's display is at the minimum for OnLocation CS3 (1024x768, if memory serves). The menu is shown only at higher display resoltions.

  • Using illustrator for iOS graphics and frame animations (beginner question)

    Hey there,
Just want to get some opinions and advice.
We are developing a sidescolling 2D game and I am creating 2D graphics in illustrator, ...so far so good, at this point in time I have a few characters designed.
Now for the character poses, positions and frame by frame animations.... hmmmm.
I have been searching for examples of ways to create character movements and positions in illustrator but as of yet have not found any good examples or explainations.
Would anyone care to share (or point me to some examples) of workflows you use to create different poses and character postions using illustrator...
(eg. should I be importing my artwork into flash to use the bone tool? Or should I create each variation in illustrator by copying my character and manipulating)

Though the people I have talked to are using solely illustrator to do just that!?
Maybe the people you've talked to just haven't taken opportunity to familiarize themselves with Bones. The artwork for cartooney walking animations can be done fairly easily in a drawing program, using Blends, Transform Again etc. So in many cases it's just not a big deal either way.
What is the advantage of using just illustrator to create animations, I'm guessing that its because the drawing tools available are superior to flash?
To me, it's not so much about "superior" drawing tools in a drawing program; it's more about a more complete set of drawing tools and commands. Flash has a Bezier drawing tool that works fine, so you can draw paths with control. But creating Blends on paths is just more convenient to do right on the page, without involving a timeline, keyframes, etc. Brushes and Transform Effect make it easy to repeat a series of objects. Flash's continual on-the-fly autotracing and auto merging of overlapping unselected and ungrouped objects can be cumbersome while drawing.
See this example. Then click the Construction Notes link below it to view a 2-page PDF that shows how the majority of the artworks was accomplished with just two very simple ArtBrushes used in combination with pathBlends. That kind of stuff is often just easier/quicker to do in a drawing program, release to layers, and then copy/paste or otherwise import to Flash.
Using Blends in AI for things like this experiment can save alot of tedium and time, as compared to working only with Flash's drawing tools. (Notes here.)
Some things just can't be done with only Flash's drawing tools. Envelope distortions, for example, can be blended to create frame-by-frame shape tweens that would be difficult to do with just Flash's native tools, as in this experiment. (The animation is embedded on Page 11 of the PDF; you may have to click "Trust this host one time only" in Reader and then click the middle of the page to get it to play, depending on your OS version.)
But as a general rule whenever using a drawing program in conjunction with Flash, avoid using more than ordinary flat fills and stokes in the drawing program before importing the paths to Flash. If you want to involve grads, shadows, transparency, etc., you'll generally be better off adding those things in Flash. Such effects are not the same constructs in different programs, and will most likley become rasterized in Flash (as is the case in the last example, above).
So again, it depends on specifically what you are trying to do.

  • Win7-64 Photoshop CC blank Save As dialog, then crash, when working with video / frame animations

Hi, I recently updated to CC from CS6 and am having issues when working with PSDs containing video layers, or are set up as frame animations:  When attempting to Save As, the dialog will be completely blank except for the Save and Cancel buttons.   If I press cancel, then return to Save As, CC then often crashes.

So far I am only having these issues if I have been working with video layers and then frame animations.  Frame animations in particular seem to cause instability as I can often work with video layers all day without a problem.  Then if I import video frames to layers, or open a PSD containing a frame animation, the Save As may not necessarily work.
Sometimes closing and restarting Photoshop will allow me to save again, but then sometimes a whole system reboot is required.  It is only temporary though.
I am not running antivirus software or other apps aside from what starts at boot.

Frustrating that this thread has petered out, since I'm having the exact same issue. Did you ever find a way to improved stability?
Also of note, the issue followed me across machines. Two weeks ago I purchased a new machine, figured if that didn't solve the problem nothing would... It didn't. :\
The only similar factors are that the machines both are 64bit Windows 7 (a fresh OEM install on the new box) and have nVidia-brand graphics cards. (Again, though - not the SAME graphics card, picked up a new one with the new machine.) No drive cloning was involved: this is completely new hardware, a fresh factory install of Windows 7, different antivirus (went from AVG to Avast), and new download of Photoshop CC from CreativeCloud.
Looks like our event details are quite similar, too.

I think you need to go into a bit more detail here. Try to describe exactly what you want to do, and what kind of footage we are talking about here. I really have no clue what you are trying to do with the current description.
Are you trying to do stop motion animation? Make a cup move across a table or something like that? Then get iStopMotion.

  • How to Use Frame Animation for CS6

I'm trying to do basic frame animation, but when I try to draw on a single frame, it always copies what I draw on the other frames.  Is there a way to only draw on one frame at a time?
    Thanks.

For example this animation was made with two layer.  The top layer the jjmack linked letters has a layer mask that is not linked to the layers content. The other layer is the background layer. The first frame I created was both layers visible with the jjmack layers content positioned off canvas upper left and the second frame I created was both layers visible with the jjmack layer content lower and off canvas to the right. I had Photoshop generate all the frames tween them.

  • Need help on saving single frame animation as avi

i am new in flash. any one can help me on how to save single frame animation as avi movie?
the default export setting gives a movie with no length....
    thanks

This is I got when google it:
you mean your trying to export a flash animation as an avi and your using movieclips???
if this is your case i have a very simple solution export it as a swf,  now import that swf into a new file and export it as an avi all should  be good.
The reason why flash doesnt export movie clips is because it has its own  time and if your going to use a flash animation for video it should  have only one timeline alone thats why movieclips dont work when you  export it as an avi.
Now the reason why this works is because when you import the swf all teh  animation are in the maintimeline so do it and post back your results  good luck
    Hope it helps

  • Frame delay set in frame animation changes after conversion to video timeline?

hi everyone, i'm running photoshop cc on windows 7.
i was trying to make a gif today and went about it the way i usually do - import video frames to layers (1 layer/frame of video), cut out the frames i don't want, then convert from frame animation to video timeline in order to apply filters. in this particular project i had set all frames to a delay of .04s, but when i converted to video timeline the gif seemed to run faster than it had in frame animation. i converted back to frame animation, and for some reason the delay had been changed to .03s - which i'm assuming accounts for the increase in gif speed. i tried inputting different values for frame delay, but they seem to all round to either .03s, .07s, or one of the preset values that appear when you click the dropdown box.
this has never happened to me before. in fact i opened a gif i made recently that had a delay of .05s and once opened the delay had been changed to .07s - noticeably slower than the original gif (which i had opened in IE to compare). i have restarted pscc multiple times to no avail. in fact i just noticed that the "make frames from layers" tool is malfunctioning as well, instead of making one frame per layer, the frames are either blank or they all show the top layer.
is this something that has happened to anyone else? if so, how to fix it? it's very frustrating because i need to be able to convert to video timeline for filters and to add text, which i can't do in frame animation.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I'm having this exact issue. I notice that the frame delay only stays the same if I set it to .1, but all other delays are changed to .03 or .07. It's a pain because I have to open every saved gif & change it to the correct time delay. It's so time consuming.

  • Using Mattes and Masks to add real mouths to stop frame animation.

Hi all, I'm new to Final Cut Pro, having only really used Avid on PC in the past. I'm currently studying animation in my third year at university and I seem to have hit a stumbling block.
Basically I have created a short stop frame animation featuring various characters, movements and shots etc. From here I would like to be able to add 'real' mouths to those characters (by means of filming the lips/mouths of my voice actors in video format and super imposing them). So here's where it gets complicated (for me at least!).. Whilst I have read that it is possible to overlay sections of video upon original video using Mattes and Masks I haven't been able to find any instructions as to how I would be able to accomplish this with images which are moving around the screen (I.E. I would need to add a mouth to a character who is walking along a road, from left to right, and so I would need to be able to manipulate the location of the mouth so that it was always located over my characters face). I hope that my question makes some sense , I wont get my hopes up for a resolution, but this seems to be quite a busy board and I've managed to pick up a few tips from here recently so hey, worth a shot .

Forgot to mention that you'll have to keyframe the mask to move as well.
If the speach shots are not moving then you have definately made things much simplier for yourself.
For a simple example of keyframing. (Don't blame me if I confuse you further)
Load a clip in the viewer. (make sure that you have the canvas set to IMAGE and WIREFRAME.
Click the MOTION TAB in the viewer. Each of the Basic Motion attributes can be controled individually over a period of time. This is done by placing keyframes on the timeline to the right of each attribute.
Place the playhead (in the canvas) at the start of your clip, then press the round button in the Centre attribute section. The black dot added to the timeline is your first keyframe.
Now move the playhead further down the timeline and press the round button in the Centre attribute section again. Now click the imag in the Canvas and drag it to the right.
Now when you play the clip the shot will move left to right, one keyframe to the next.
That's it in a very small nutshell. And remember, almost any effect or motion can be keyframed.

  • Motion tweening a frame-by-frame animation

    Hello,
I am an experienced animator who is new to using Flash. I need to know how to add a motion tween to an animation that I already made frame-by-frame. The animation will be of a fish blinking as it swims across the stage. I already created the frame animation of the fish blinking, but now I want to motion tween the whole animation (not just one frame) across the stage. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. Is there a way to create a simple animation that uses frame-by-frame animation and motion tweens simultaneously?

Unfortunately, Adobe let (character) animators down by not developing any of Flash's animation tools since v8 - quite the contrary, the latest incarnation, CC, removed a lot of (quite essential) animation functionality. No more bones (yikes!) or motion curves control.
A shame, because once Flash was the industry standard app for tv show animation. Not so anymore, though: Adobe dropped the ball in that regard, and mostly focuses on web/mobile apps and games development currently.
    There are two options:
    1) use animator-oriented alternatives like Toonboom and/or Anime Studio Pro (both of which export to flash movies);
    2) download a bunch of plugins, and extend Flash so that its workflow becomes more animator friendly.
If you are just starting out, I would probably advise you to have at least a cursory look at the alternatives. However, having said all that, Flash can still be an enjoyable environment to animate in, IF you extend it a bit. Unfortunately some workflow may not be CC friendly anymore at this point due to the missing (almost essential) functionality compared to CS6 - you may prefer to work in CS6, depending.
These will help you extend Flash to become a bit more animator friendly:
    http://cloudkid.com/tools
    http://flash-powertools.com/
For example, Keyframe Caddy would solve your problem animating an eye by keyframing it in a symbol.
The guys at flash-powertools created a character animation workflow you may like, which addresses the deficiences of Flash for professional level character animation. They have some nice templates and example character files for you to examine.
A word of warning: character animation in Flash can become somewhat technical and daunting - in that case a tool like Anime Studio with excellent and easy to use bone tools and proper real(!) animation curves can be truly helpful. These can then be imported into Flash, and edited. Also, both AS and TB have a "real" virtual 3d camera of the scene that makes it easy to create parallax scrolling backgrounds and zoom in/out panning effects.
Anyway, this is how you would do it in Flash:
    1) install Keyframe Caddy
    2) draw your fish in a cutout-fashion (seperate eye).
    3) convert all the fish elements to a graphic symbol (F8)
    4) double-click the fish symbol
    5) select the eye, and convert to a graphic symbol again
    6) add different drawings for the eye blinking
    7) return to the main stage
Now you can start animating the fish:
    1) first animate the entire character moving
    2) then after you finish the overall movement, move to the frame you wish to change the eye
    3) double-click the fish character, and select the eye
    4) in KeyFrame Caddy click "load thumbnails". This should load up all the different frames (drawings/states) for that graphic symbol and display them all in the KeyFrame Caddy window
    5) now simply click on the required eye state, and KeyFrame Caddy will automatically create a keyframe for that state.
    6) move the timeline scrubber to the next frame you wish to keyframe eye movement
    7) click on the required eye state in the KeyFrame Caddy window.
...and so on! You may have to switch between the main scene and the fish symbol
Make certain the lengths of both timelines are identical, otherwise the eye animation will start to repeat if it is shorter than the main timeline. Inversely, if the main timeline is shorter than the eye animation, the eye animation will obviously not be able to run completely through.
One more thing: keep an eye out on the graphic symbol's looping in the properties - you may want to set it to either play once or looping (or even single frame).
For more info on graphic symbols, read this:
    http://dev.tutsplus.com/articles/flashs-underrated-graphic-symbol--active-9964
Also check out those two sites' other tools. And check out the workflow on the electric Dreams website. Hope this helps a bit.

  • Motion Tweening in Frame Animation (photoshop cs6)?

Hello, adobe community. I am new to the program Photoshop cs6 and just started using it this week. I have an animation project due tomorrow and noticed something while I was working. Is it possible to tween your drawings between frames in frame animation? I have seen it demonstrated a few times in the video timeline, but not in the frame animation option. I am using a video layer to create my project, so it is not separated into individual frames. If there is an option to do so, can someone please tell me how it's done? Thank you.

Yes you can. Create two frames, select both then choose tweening icon at the bottom of the animation panel. Left of the new icon looks like several sphere's. The more frames created, the smoother the tweening and the longer the animation.

  • Missing Create Frame Animation option

I want to create an animation, but have always been missing the "create frame animation" option from the timeline panel .
Would appreciate any help. Please note that I am not a pro at photoshop!

When I play the animation it just shows the same image throughout the entire sequence eventhough there is a different image on each layer.
