Frame corruption in Motion

i am getting crazy looking frames from Motion on a short clip. see example at:
http://www.conduitville.com/motion.tiff
this is a three layer sequence with a custom (drawn in Motion) mask, a very large .tiff file (logo w transparent background), and a bloom filter.
any ideas on a solve?

Don't know what video card you're using, but is perchance, the large logo file larger than 2k wide or high? Or close, because IIRC the bloom filter greatly enlarges the size. You might try nesting the logo file in a layer, select fixed resolution, then placing the bloom filter on that layer...

  • Move multiple frames in the motion editor?

Hi! Is there a way to move multiple frames in the motion editor (CS4)? Like now I have to move them one by one and it's hard to make them keep their values coz the shift+move doesn't seem to work. Or should it?
    Regards / Jimmy

You can move multiple property keyframes for a single property in the Motion editor. Shift-click them and then drag. You cannot move keyframes across different properties, however.
If you want to move *all* keyframes on mutliple frames, you want to do this on the main timeline. Ctrl/cmd+drag across the frames to select the multiple frames, and then drag them on the tween span.

  • Global Switches for Frame Blend and Motion Blur aren't working with the newest version of After Effects 2014.1.1

I have been using After Effects regularly since 1995. So this isn't an operator error.
I am on a new Mac Pro six core with OSX 10.9.5 and 32 gigs of RAM.
Is anyone else having trouble with activating frame blend and motion blur?
Occasionally I am able to get the global switch to appear to be on. It still won't activate motion blur or frame blend.

I'll answer my own issue. The global switches actually work. The distinct dark boxes that indicate when the global switches are enabled have been removed and replaced by a light blue outline of the switch icon.

  • FRAME "GLITCH" AFTER MOTION EXPORT

    HELP!
I'm having a problem with some sort of frame "glitch" when I export my Motion project to Quicktime.
Everything will be playing back fine & then there will be one frame that looks all whacked out.
    Just for that split second.
It's in different places every time I re-export.
You can view the bad frame here: http://www.photropics.com/bad.jpg
& the good frame(right after it) here: http://www.photropics.com/good.jpg
This project has a lot of movement going on including a particle emitter i the first 20 seconds but that's not where the glitch is.
You'll see that in this particular export, the glitch is actually in a clone layer that I'm using as a reflection of a video.
This is inconsistent though, it can be in different places in the scene in every export.
Export settings are on RENDER BEST / ANIMATION / FULL RESOLUTION / 720 X 480
    Same as my setup.
    Very frustrated!
I'm starting to question my machine.
I'm working with a PPC G5 Dual 2 Hhz. machine with 3 gigs of RAM.
It's got the original graphics card in it, which is always a problem for me but will that affect the export quality?
I know it's not an Intel machine but it should be able to handle a 1.5 minute clip from Motion. Shouldn't it?
I'll have a new Intel machine in a few months but need some help with making this work if possible.
    Thanks in advance.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks for the response Adam.
I didn't mean to be so vague about the details originally.
I am exporting out of motion as a Quicktime movie to eventually be brought into DVD Studio Pro & burned onto DVD.
I tried bringing the file directly into DVDSP as a Motion project & it took 18 hours to do a build but
as a QT Movie, it only takes minutes.
If I change the animation codec, will I lose quality? I want it to be as clean as possible.
I have cleared the RAM cache & with the same result.
I might try the FCP import idea but I haven't used Compressor before. The last time worked with video & I used FCP was when it was in version 2 so I'm somewhat new. I've crashed coursed in FCP 6, LiveType, Motion & DVDSP so I just haven't gotten to Compressor yet.
Tell me though, did you look at the samples I uploaded?
Is this just a weird dropped frame or what do you think?
I also tried exporting at Half size & the glitch is still there & in the same place.
I thought it might be something within my motion project in conflict but there's nothing in the particular spot that is starting or stopping or anything.
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • Field order and frame rate for motion graphic

    Hi all,
I'm creating a some graphics to project on big screen LED for live concert & later the editor might use these graphics in his ntsc 16x9 29.97fps digibeta source cut so which is the best way?
    1- 853x486 square pixel, progressive, 29.97fps
    2- 853x486 square pixel, lower field, 29.97fps
    3- 853x486 square pixel, progressive, 60fps
I'm thinking *option 3 render w/ motion blur on* is the best since it would produce whole frame so that the editor can freeze frame or do what ever he wants.
also, do I need frame blending to be on?
    thanks a bunch.

  • Frames in stop motion

Hi, I'm creating a stop motion animation for an assignment. But for some reason, every time I try to put in the frame length as 0.25 it automatically becomes 0.24, it's the same with frames of 0.5 which become 0.48.
I'm making an animation to music... so the frames have to be exact. Can you give me any tips?
    Thanks so much

welcome Carla McGlynn to the  iMovie boards ...
video has standards.. as PAL=25fps, NTSC=29.97fps .. iM08 can handle only 'some' fractions of this..
for stopmotion, there are other, 'better' tools to consider:
QTpro - which converts with a snap any 'picture sequence' into video
iStopMotion - which is a cheap but excellent specialized app
FramebyFrame - new, doing almost the same..
and, I would recommend iMHD6 (free download at ), although it seems, I'm the only one who's able to teach it a 00:00:01 (=1 frame) picture length...
(we had a few discussions about that, I had to upload a screengrab to 'proof' my position...)

  • 30 frames into 25 frames using slow motion

I have a PAL DV 25 fps sequence and I have included a clip that is 30fps. The clip is a pan and when rendered it turns out jumpy due to the frame rate change I believe.
To fix it I think I should be able to tell FCP to just use "frame for frame" so that the first 25 frames of the clip go into the first second of the sequnece and the remaining 5 frames flow into the next second and so on. This would give a smoother result although slightly slower motion. I haven't been able to locate tools or discussion on this and if anyone could advise on this I would appreciate it.
        fcp 5.1

Use Cinema Tools and the CONFORM tool... Conform to 25. That will take frame for frame and change the number that pass in a second.
    Good luck,

  • FM11 to RH10 conversion: superscript in Frame corrupts all following text in RH

I imported a Frame 11 book in RH 10. As soon as a superscript occurs in Frame, e.g. square meters, all following text is set in superscript.
I checked the HTML text if the superscript tag had not been closed, but it was closed. The problem is that RH sets every following paragraph in superscript tags, meaning every paragraph has an opening and closing superscript tag in HTML.
To go over the entire text with the Find function and manually delete all tags is no option for 365 pages.
    What can I do?

In the meantime I found out that it is not just superscript but also subscript.
I checked the conversion settings, but neither subscript nor superscript are listed in the character settings - forgotten? Or did I look in the wrong place?
I am using a Frame template.
After hours of testing I found a workaround: the text generally is set in 11pt. When I manually change all super- and subscripts to 8pt the conversion works fine.
Not very satisfying but at least I can generate a decent .chm-file.

  • Graphic Frames Corrupted When Exporting to PDF

I'm trying to figure out what is happening to random graphic frames in my InDesign document.  I'm working in a 68 page document.  I exported to PDF using the lo-res no bleed setting.  The PDF exported fine but when I went back to my InDesign doc, some of my graphic frames had changed to blank white frames.  The links still appeared on the links panel but it showed them as on the pasteboard.  When I clicked the PB link to view the object, it zoomed in to a tiny object in the gutter of the spread.  When I tried to enlarge the object, I got an error saying the object would leave the pasteboard.  I then looked in the control panel and all the coordinates and measuremends said NaN.  I'm working with InDesign CS 5.5 version 7.5.3 on OS X Lion version 10.7.3.  The frames contained either placed PSD files or placed PDF files.  It seems to have affected random frames on various pages.  I've spent 3 hours searching Google and these forums but haven't found a similar post.  This is a brand new system that has been in production for less than two weeks.  I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Jack

I stupidly started trying to figure out what was going on rather than immediately doing a save as and within about 3 minutes InDesign crashed. When I relaunched and reopened my document, not only were my graphic frames still messed up but all of the content on about 5 other pages were completely gone, frames and all. This is the weirdest thing that I've ever seen in InDesign. I understand the concept of NaN. I just mentioned it because it seemed like part of the problem. Thanks for your reply.  What makes this even more interesting is that this isn't the first time that I've seen this. About 6 months ago, I saw the same issue happen to another user on another machine. At that time we couldn't really track down any details because the document was last accessed at the end of the day on a Friday and we didn't figure it out until Monday morning. The only thing that the two workstations have in common is that the documents and resources were stored on the same server. Could it be an issue with using InDesign files stored remotely vs locally?

  • Motion tweening a frame-by-frame animation

    Hello,
I am an experienced animator who is new to using Flash. I need to know how to add a motion tween to an animation that I already made frame-by-frame. The animation will be of a fish blinking as it swims across the stage. I already created the frame animation of the fish blinking, but now I want to motion tween the whole animation (not just one frame) across the stage. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. Is there a way to create a simple animation that uses frame-by-frame animation and motion tweens simultaneously?

Unfortunately, Adobe let (character) animators down by not developing any of Flash's animation tools since v8 - quite the contrary, the latest incarnation, CC, removed a lot of (quite essential) animation functionality. No more bones (yikes!) or motion curves control.
A shame, because once Flash was the industry standard app for tv show animation. Not so anymore, though: Adobe dropped the ball in that regard, and mostly focuses on web/mobile apps and games development currently.
    There are two options:
    1) use animator-oriented alternatives like Toonboom and/or Anime Studio Pro (both of which export to flash movies);
    2) download a bunch of plugins, and extend Flash so that its workflow becomes more animator friendly.
If you are just starting out, I would probably advise you to have at least a cursory look at the alternatives. However, having said all that, Flash can still be an enjoyable environment to animate in, IF you extend it a bit. Unfortunately some workflow may not be CC friendly anymore at this point due to the missing (almost essential) functionality compared to CS6 - you may prefer to work in CS6, depending.
These will help you extend Flash to become a bit more animator friendly:
    http://cloudkid.com/tools
    http://flash-powertools.com/
For example, Keyframe Caddy would solve your problem animating an eye by keyframing it in a symbol.
The guys at flash-powertools created a character animation workflow you may like, which addresses the deficiences of Flash for professional level character animation. They have some nice templates and example character files for you to examine.
A word of warning: character animation in Flash can become somewhat technical and daunting - in that case a tool like Anime Studio with excellent and easy to use bone tools and proper real(!) animation curves can be truly helpful. These can then be imported into Flash, and edited. Also, both AS and TB have a "real" virtual 3d camera of the scene that makes it easy to create parallax scrolling backgrounds and zoom in/out panning effects.
Anyway, this is how you would do it in Flash:
    1) install Keyframe Caddy
    2) draw your fish in a cutout-fashion (seperate eye).
    3) convert all the fish elements to a graphic symbol (F8)
    4) double-click the fish symbol
    5) select the eye, and convert to a graphic symbol again
    6) add different drawings for the eye blinking
    7) return to the main stage
Now you can start animating the fish:
    1) first animate the entire character moving
    2) then after you finish the overall movement, move to the frame you wish to change the eye
    3) double-click the fish character, and select the eye
    4) in KeyFrame Caddy click "load thumbnails". This should load up all the different frames (drawings/states) for that graphic symbol and display them all in the KeyFrame Caddy window
    5) now simply click on the required eye state, and KeyFrame Caddy will automatically create a keyframe for that state.
    6) move the timeline scrubber to the next frame you wish to keyframe eye movement
    7) click on the required eye state in the KeyFrame Caddy window.
...and so on! You may have to switch between the main scene and the fish symbol
Make certain the lengths of both timelines are identical, otherwise the eye animation will start to repeat if it is shorter than the main timeline. Inversely, if the main timeline is shorter than the eye animation, the eye animation will obviously not be able to run completely through.
One more thing: keep an eye out on the graphic symbol's looping in the properties - you may want to set it to either play once or looping (or even single frame).
For more info on graphic symbols, read this:
    http://dev.tutsplus.com/articles/flashs-underrated-graphic-symbol--active-9964
Also check out those two sites' other tools. And check out the workflow on the electric Dreams website. Hope this helps a bit.

  • FCPX Frames versus Motion Frames

I created a clip in Motion 5 with settings "Broadcast HD 1080", 29.97 fps NTSC, 1920x1080 and exported the movie using Apple ProRes 422 HQ.  In Final Cut Pro X I have a project set up as 1080p HD, 29.97p, 1920x1080.  When I import the exported Motion 5 movie into Final Cut Pro X, I expected the movie clip's frames to align with FCP's frames because they're both the same frame rate - but they don't.  They're off by a lot.  Is this normal, or am I not doing something "right"?  The Motion clip seems to play just fine within Final Cut Pro.
    Motion project:
    Final Cut Pro project:
You can see from the two screen captures that they're both the same frame rate, but the 5th frame in Final Cut Pro is aligning with partway through the 14th frame of the Motion movie clip.  Can someone explain this to me so I can better understand what's going on, like why frame 5 in the Motion movie isn't frame 5 in the Final Cut Pro project?  Thanks.

It's right there in the picture.  Here's clarification of how I'm seeing it.  Am I misinterpreting the user interface?
Here's what's odd about it (besides the fact that visual frame markers don't align).  In Motion, animation keyframes are synchronized to an audio track and play perfectly.  It's exported as video only.  (FCPX is managing all the audio in the project.)  When I import the Motion movie and audio track files (separate media) and align them to each other in FCPX (ignoring the frame count markers in FCPX), the video and audio tracks are still aligned and play perfectly.  I'm thinking it's just an error in how FCPX is displaying the frame separator lines for a movie clip because the duration and frame count markers (start and end markers) report the correct values, despite the quantity of rectangles between the markers not correlating with the number of frames reported.  Also, because when I skim across one "frame" in the movie clip in FCPX, several animation frames play out before reaching the "frame" end dividing line.  Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think the vertical separator lines in a movie clip within FCPX are meant to represent actual frames....

  • Motion frame enlargement

When I enlarge a frame vertically with motion, does FCP interpolate scan lines and increase the number of scan lines, or do the number scan lines in the enlarged frame stay the same? How does it handle interlaced video?

There is a misunderstanding here. I would expect 480 scan lines in NTSC
Yes, apparently there is. That wouldn't be scan lines - you're talking about pixel dimensions. Scan lines are something totally different (see the wikipedia article).
If you stretch the image in any way beyond 100%, new pixels will have to be created (based on the surrounding pixels. The result will be a much softer image. Noticeable artifacting may be introduced if the enlargement exceeds 110% of the original size.

  • Frame by frame video player or slow motion

the video player is outstanding but a couple of enhancements could make it perfect. frame by frame or slow motion could make it a more perfect tool for analyzing a golf swing or studying a surgical procedure. and if a still frame could be magnified or the video magnified during playback it could be all anyone would ever need. still frame grabbing would also be a useful tool. we also need the macro focus - it is an essential tool for recording documents and for producing video presentations of small items like jewels, stamps or coins.

Can anyone suggest an app for slow motion video playback with the bb playbook?

Do you have any idea for solve this problem. thanks!
    Sitthisak C.

Errors and crashes in multithreaded programs can be very hard to debug.
Sometimes a problem occurs every time a particular piced of code is
executed, and other times the problem is timing dependent. Sometimes the
problem is located in the module where the failure occurs, and other times
the problem is due to memory corruption in a different thread. You may want
to try executing your program with a memory analyzer such as Purify to see
if there are any references to unallocated memory that could be causing
corruption. Also, if you are not running a recent patch of 8.1, you may
want to upgrade to the latest patch to see if that fixes the problem.
(However, I don't know of any specific problems in this area for release
8.1.) If the above suggestions don't work, then you should open a support
    case.

  • Motion Tween Keyframe Display

    Hello Everyone,
I faced a very strange issue while working with motion tween. I have motion tween of 100 frames. The motion tween path on the stage shows me Keyframes at every 5 frames i.e. it shows keyframe of 5,10,15,20 and so on till 100..No isues with that at all.
But when trying to motion tween the duration to 99 frame or even lesser the entire motion tween path shows me each and every Keyframe on the stage which becomes so cumborsome to handle as then I have to manage all the keyframes on the stage. Whereas, when it is 100(just a frame more) it starts showing a different display.
How can I have to same display if I were to reduce the motion tween to 99 or less, in that instance it is much easier to ease the frames in my animation..Is there any setting which controls this??
Please help geeks as your help as always been a boon for me.
    Thanks,
    Kangana
I am using Flash Professional CS5.0

    Hi Darshan,
Thanks for your response but this is not what I wanted to explain.
The duration of the layer for motion tween is at 100 frames in the first setting. On the Stage I can only see Anchor Points(Keyframes) on frames 5,10,15 and so on.. No issues with that. I have taken a screen shot of this and attached as Version-1
Now with the same file and everything being the same, If I decrease the duration of the Layer by just one frame i.e.99 or lower, then all the anchor points(i.e.keyframes) 1,2,3... become visible on the motion tween path on the Stage. I have also attached the screen shot as Version-2
I trust there would be a setting which controls this display.
    Thanks for your help...
