Frame Maker - Image caption

How can we add image caption in a Frame Maker document, as in a word document?
I have created a style called Image caption, where the font is bold. But there is no image number. Manually, I have added numbers. But the drawback is that if I insert another image in between the existing paragraphs, then I have to update the image numbers manually. Please let me know, if there is a way to create a Paragraph style, so that Image numbers are also updated automatically.

Assuming you want "Figure 123"
Format > Paragraph > Designer
Paragraph Tag: [ Image caption ]
Properties: [ Numbering ]
[*] Autonumber Format:
[ F:Figure\ <n+> ]
"F:" specifiies counter F, so that other auto-numbered paragraphs won't disrupt caption numbers.
"\ " is a non-breaking space, useful for cross-referencing captions near right margins.
"<n+>" increments counter F, which starts at 0, so the first caption defaults to 1, depending on book numbering properties.
The auto-numbering works correctly if the caption paragraph is located:
in normal Flow A,
in a Table cell anchored to Flow A,
in a text frame within an anchored frame, but only in the case where there is a single text frame containing a caption in that anchored frame, or
in a table cell in a text frame in an anchored frame, also subject to the single-text-frame-caption rule
If you have more than one text frame in an anchored frame, they all get the same auto-number (up through FM9, anyway). This probably isn't a defect.
I don't know what happens if you use unanchored frames, as they are unwise for multiple more serious reasons.

im trying to make a simple 360 rotation for a 3d logo in CC 2014 but when i tried to create the 1st key frame the image when out axis

I find that if you have multiple 3d object  they must be merged into a single 3d layer their positions reset to align to the same axises then sized and positioned along them. The layer should then be able to be animated well around an axis like the y axis. Here a Sphere, Cylinder and ring. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/McAssey-CC.mp4

  • Export to EPUB large image & caption on 1 page

I can't seem to do something that should be very simple. I've spent 2 days on this, checking out Lynda, con courses, and forums. But can't figure it out!
After each chapter, I would like:
    1. A full page photo and caption underneath it on same page. It doesn't need to bleed, but I'd like the images to be LARGE, basically take up most of the page (and be centered vertically, if possible, but I can live without that.)
    2. The anchored image/caption group should adjust so it takes up roughly the same proportion of the page, if viewed as a single page (e.g when looking at ibooks in portrait position, as it does when looking at it horizontally, meaning it would scale down and look like it takes up most of the page proportionately when page is smaller.)
I grouped the image and caption then anchored them into the text flow. I exported so it would break before the paragraph  the image/caption group anchored to, so  the image DOES start on a new page. But sometimes the caption is with the photo (portrait view) and sometimes on the next page (landscape view). I've tried all kinds of combos with object styles. Can't get it to work. I know it should be simple, since it's a pretty basic design idea.
    When viewed horizontally:
For both photo 1 @ 2, the caption is on a new page. On photo 2, the caption is cut off.
    When viewed vertically:
For photo 1, the caption is on top of the photo (I thought you couldn't overlap things in Epub3!). For Photo 2, image and caption appear on same page, but image looks small.

    Thanks!!!

    Hi Pooja:
Thanks for your response. I am on CC v.9.2. I took some screenshots from my ipad (I am using the ibooks viewer) to better explain the issue.
    Screenshots
    1. Test1—photo1: (This is taken from the file in the TestforForum.zip. See link in the original post). This shows roughly how large I want the images to appear. It could be a bit smaller so the caption fits. (Is that why it appears on top of image?)
I didn't take a screenshot, but when you turn ipad landscape, the photo is nice and big, but the caption moves to the next page. I'd like it to scale down proportionately, so the photo and caption are on one page, and fill most of the page.
I did note that these group items are taller than 600 px. So I did another text, making sure the groups were less than 600px high.
    2. Test 2—Photo1: (See link below)
The grouped image and caption is 599 px tall. But look how TINY it is on the page now! In landscape mode, it does fill the page, but the caption is cut off.
I uploaded these new files to dropbox, so you can help decipher the exact issue.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18648953/Testforforum2.zip
    3. As far as captions getting cut off, I found I needed to make the text frame much taller. I'm guessing this is to accomodate caption fonts becoming bigger when scaled on the reader. BUT if I make the frames taller, that means the photo has to be even smaller, to fit within 600 px height when grouped.
I hope you'll take a look at the two sets of zipped files. I've tried everything I can think of. Please let me know if you need screenshots of the landscape mode.
Thank you!!!! I REALLY appreciate your help on this. Jami

How do you make images transparent in Adobe InDesign CS5.5?

    Dittco wrote:
It IS possible: Select the image. Open effects (Window > Effects). Switch from "normal" to "multiply". Viola! White background is gone.
That only works with a white background. In addition, it introduces a transparency effect, with its associated problems.
With a rather light background: Select the image. Open clipping path (Object > Clipping Path > Options). Select Type > Detect Edges; use Threshold and Tolerance to get as close as possible to the edge of your image. This may be difficult because of a too low resolution image, or too much fringe on the edge -- if all fails, use the Inset Frame value to force the mask "into" the image. Click OK, and the background is gone.
But that's not the only way: you can always create a clipping path manually, and then you are in total control, not limited by transparency side effects, auto-edge detection, and busy backgrounds.

  • A simple way to apply crop from photo book frame to image version?

    Hi
    Running MacOS X 10.8.5, Aperture 3.4.4
I have the following workflow for photobooks creation (a custom photobook):
    0) Prepare an album with photos I'd like to create my book from.
For 99% of my photos I have TIFF files as masters. Not RAW files.
    I use managed library.
    1) Create a book layout (place images, select different crop factors for frames, etc)
    2) Looking at specific page adjust photos using Aperture adjustments (exposure, color balance) to make images to looks similar on the page
    3) A the final step, apply some adjustments from external plugins.
Here I have the question from subject:
    * The Aperture  sends the whole file to plugin (i.e. some of Nik collection plugins, but it might be a different plugin)
    * But on my photo book page I have a different crop factor (i.e. TIFF master is 2:3, on photo book page I frame it to 1:2)
    * As the result some of the adjustments I did in external plugin are not visible on the photobook page, which produces a different visual effect, which I don't want.
Currently, to workaround this, I have to manually apply the same crop factor to image version, then make a version copy, open the plugin. Only after these steps Aperture will send the desired crop factor to external plugin.
This is some sort of technical work which I need to do manually, no brain is involved here - I'm looking to some ways how to automate this.
As the result, I'd like the crop factor from photo frame from Aperture custom book to be applied to image version.
Any ideas on scripts/external programs are welcome.
    Thank you!

  • Better SOP for images with image captions?

    Hi,
    FM 8.04, Win XP.
When I work with images that shall have image captions, I use a pre-defined one row, one column table format that has a a table caption set to below. I then import the image into the one cell.
However, in some cases I would like images be anchored at bottom of columns, rather than at top of columns (or floating). The thing is that since the anchored frame sits inside a table cell, it is the table's placement that I must change. And tables do not have the "At bottom of column" option.
Any suggestion for a better standard of procedure for "At bottom of column" images, with retained caption functionality?
    TIA,
    /Mats

    Mats,
You could always just use only anchored frames and add an additional
text frame to the anchored frame in the proper location relative to
the inserted graphic. Since the anchored frame is part of the flow,
the included text frames in these behave correctly with respect to
autonumbering and being picked up in the proper in generated lists.
If you create the styled anchored on a Reference page (in a text frame
of course) then you can quickly get at the proper "template" of what
you need using copy & paste.

  • Variables like breadcrumbs in frame maker?

    Hello together,
I would like to add a kind of breadcrumbs (at webseite -> you are here:  Start >  Adobe Community > Frame Maker > ....) for all headings in framemaker.
    e.g.: You are here/Path: Heading 1 - Heading 2 - Heading 3
By adding variables with <$absText[Titel1]> just <$paratext appears. Titel1 is the Paragraph-Tag.
It should work automatically, ideally on the reference page, using cross references is to much work as I have always to choose the actual Heading.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi, Russ:
Just because we see things a bit differently is EXACTLY the opportunity to discuss them and perhaps gain insights to things we didn't think through too thoroughly.
In my case, D'OH! I was considering print formats like PDF, so I was thinking deeply inside the box, just to a static breadcrumb mindset that simply displayed the nested levels of hierarchy on any given page. Same one. Forever, unless the document is revised and reexported to PDF. BAH! I completely ignored the fundamental nature of breadcrumbs: they trace your progress backwards, so they need to be dynamic. YES, you're right!
I can't say "you win," because it wasn't a contest - we're both looking for ways to help users. But, I can say, "thanks for making me think better."
Now, if there's a way to hijack a PDF viewer application to capture the traceback data it stores for a user's session, and display that info as breadcrumbs, that would be great! It's probably not trivial to engineer that in a PDF viewer, and probably not possible to engineer in FrameMaker so that the tracebacks are captured and displayed when the PDF that originaged in FM is viewed.

    Hi Peter,
Interesting commentary. However, I find the comparison to RoboHelp as a bit like apples to oranges. In RoboHelp, there are clear and natural delimiters between the units represented by the bread-crumbs, that is; the source files themselves. Additionally, there is an explicit hierarchy represented by the project TOC to guide breadcrumb generation. No such natural delimiters or explicit hierarchy exists in an FM file, with a modest exception for a structured FM file. Even still, the decision of what entity should be represented by a breadcrumb could be completely arbitrary, as there could be any names for heading styles, heading elements, etc.  And, that's assuming that you are looking to breadcrumb headings in the first place, which also might be arbitrary. And above all that... you would have to insert content all over the place throughout a file (and the location, styling, etc. etc. could also be arbirary), then be able to clearly recognize each instance with each breadcrumb refresh. Adding to all of that, it looks like KammOptima wants to use images.
So anyway, thinking about this from an engineering perspective, it seems like a wildly complicated request, at least to figure out a generic tool that would be broadly useful. I wouldn't claim that I am the sharpest engineer in the drawer, though, so perhaps you can convince me that I'm over complicating this.

    Hi,
If you try to make a caption visible of a new control via a property node you will get error 1320
(LabVIEW: In edit mode, LabVIEW cannot return a property for a control part that you have not yet created)
WHY?? In LV 7 it does work, and in 7.1 it doesn't.
    Kind regards,

I discovered this problem not too long ago.
Follow the discussion here for the whole story.
The work around is to first manually make the Caption visible by right clicking and navigate to Visible Items >>Caption. It seems in 7.1, the Caption is not created until you first turn it on manually.

  • Frame Maker 10 with S1000D - Figure TOC not in format

I am using Frame Maker 10 with S1000D Application Pack, i have new document from S1000D->New->Crew Modle, inputing the data as per the Elements and updating the TOC S1000D->Update TOCs all works fine, but when i insert the Figure and updated the TOCs its not in the format
When i checked the sample document which is given in FM 10 S1000D, Once i Insert the Element "Figure Title" it inputs auto number...but not in Crew Modle.
Please help me how to go with this

This formatting error is due to a missing text format rule in the Crew Module application. The quickest way to fix this is as follows:
Locate the S1000D application files within the FrameMaker installation folder.
Open the EDD for the Crew application: crew_401.edd.fm.
Also open the EDD for the Description application: description_401.edd.fm.
In the crew EDD locate the figureTitle element definition which is in the Graphics section. You should see that figureTitle has no formatting rules.
The Description EDD does include the required formatting rules, so simply copy those rules into the Crew EDD.
Save the Crew EDD. This may require changing the EDD's file permissions to allow read/write access.
    Open the Crew template: crew_401.tpl.fm.
Import the EDD into the template using File > Import > Element Definitions...
    Save the Crew template.
Open the crew data module, the List of Figures will now show the correct formatting.
Note: Do not import the EDD directly into an open data module as that will overwrite the attribute values as defined by the BREX mapping.

  • Frame Maker 9 Cross References Question

    Howdy,
I got two documents the original and a translated version of it. The original has a bunch of working cross references and it's all fine and dandy. The translated one on the other has a bunch of broken cross-references, chapter headers, headers in general and what not. Almost all of the "code" broke when the translator did it.
Either way, that's easy enough to fix it, I can just copy the working code from the original and paste into the translated document and it will generaelly fix the error.
Now for the question - Since my translated document is a couple of pages longer than the original due to the translation can I still copy of the cross references from the first document over, and it will be all fine and dandy?
Basically I didn't write either docuements I'm just fixing formatting and other errors, and I'm not entirely 100% how Frame Maker does it cross references are they based on a page number/paragraph parameters, or something like under X subheading go here and that's how it links.
TL;DR How do Cross refernces work in FM9? And if I have a translated doc longer than my original, can those same Cross references work in both docs?
    Thanks much for any help/insight.
    Dean,

Almost all of the "code" broke when the translator did it.
They probably deleted the Cross-Ref Markers when over-typing the text. If Text Symbols were off during edit, that's pretty easy to do.
... and I'm not entirely 100% how Frame Maker does it cross references are  they based on a page number/paragraph parameters, or something like  under X subheading go here and that's how it links.
Unless you are Xref'ing a hand-created Marker, Frame auto-creates a Marker, of type "Cross-Ref" at the start of the target paragraph. It also auto creates an Mtext tag, which contains what appears to be a unique number string, the Paragraph Format name and the paragraph text (including any auto number). There is also a <Unique> tag with another unique number string.
When resolving references, my impression is that Frame first searches for the <Unique> number, and if not found, then for the Mtext string, and then possibly for the Mtext string without the leading number string.
If the translators do two things, I would expect the Xrefs to port:
Don't disturb Xref Markers. This can be tough, because it's sometimes hard to select text and not nab leading Markers, and because all Marker symbols look alike, and the Index markers do need to be messed with.
Don't translate text defined by Markers. That text will auto-translate from the source text at Update.

  • Quick, easy ways to make images look better?

What are the best ways to make images look a bit better? I shot my footage using a pretty bad camera, so quality already isn't the greatest, but what is the best way to make images look a bit more "movie-like"? The 3way color correstion is nothing for me, it's too hard to make images look good, they'll quickly turn too yellow or red, etc... Something to improve contrast maybe? Using Image Control: Brightness and contrast (bezier) doesn't seem to help much.

Okay, I took a couple of screenshots:

Now I don't know alot about image quality or color, but I think there is not enough contrast? It all looks very cold. Luckily, image quality isn't the most important thing in this project, but it would be nice to be able to touch it up a little bit.
