Frame rate problems on clip, noob needs help

Hey everyone, I don't have much background in video edit and absolutely no training so if there are some really simple things that I might be overlooking, don't be afraid to suggest them.
Basically my project consists of 3 different file types:
720p .mts from Panasonic GH1 at 59.94fps
720p .mov from Canon 60D at 59.94fps
an .avi stream capture from Ustream at 30fps
My sequence is set to 29.97fps.  I've been using the AVCHD 720p30 preset.  I've never really understood what settings I should be using and I know that is a problem.
Anyways, the .mts and .mov files look great but the stream file looks like it is playing at probably 2x speed but then it jumps back after about a second and replays itself.  The audio is working fine but I can't figure out why the video is all over the place.  Any solutions and/or advice for me?  Thanks

Convert the codec in that AVI wrapper to an editable format.
an .avi stream capture from Ustream at 30fps
is impossible, since capture can only be done over firewire from a tape based camera.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Ghosting effect - Is it a frame rate problem?

I've just made a music video lyric video (I'm still really new to movie editing) and there's this ghosting effect. Does anyone know what may cause it? Is it a frame rate problem, or the frame blend thing?
Here's the cliup on YouTube: (You can really see the ghosting when you watch it in HD.)
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 (32 bit)

hmm, looks like you need to read a few things maybe...to understand some stuff.
Here's some links I got from google for you
    NTSC
Short for National Television System Committee. The NTSC is responsible for setting television and video standards in the United States (in Europe and the rest of the world, the dominant television standards are PAL and SECAM). The NTSC standard for television defines a composite video signal with a refresh rate of 60 half-frames (interlaced) per second. Each frame contains 525 lines and can contain 16 million different colors.
The NTSC standard is incompatible with most computer video standards, which generally use RGB video signals

Soooo, you didnt export ntsc and it looks like you upscaled to 1080p but a different fps than original also.
In gereral if you start at say 24fps and make it 30fps, your editor has to "make" new frames ( add 6 per second ) and it does that by creating new frames out of what you have on timeline. Sometimes a VBR 2 pass will give you better results than 1 pass, but you have to experiment a bit ( just export small section of timeline for tests...and try to use area where you see your "ghosting" ).
    good luck

Connect the iPod to your syncing computer and restore it via iTunes.  However, if iTunes asks for the unknown passcode you need to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod from backup.  For recovey mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
"If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone and iPod touch software."

  • FCP 7 noob needs help - Unrendered in Canvas

    Hello
I am totally new to FCP and my knowledge of video editing goes as far as iMovie.
I have imported some .mov files into FCP.
I drag into Viewer, mark it and then Drag it into the "insert" in the canvas.
When i play back on timeline, the Canvas shows a blue screen with Unrendered" on it.
I have no idea what t do...have searched forums and found a couple of the same but
didnt quite get what was being discussed so any help from you experts would be great!
    Thanks.

I have imported some .mov files into FCP.
What format? And don't say ".mov" because that is only a container that can hold all sorts of CODECS. Select the file and hit CMD-I and see what the codec is.
Now, that being said, FCP is a PROFESSIONAL editor, meant to work with professional level formats, and some consumer ones. For a full list of what formats are supported, look in the EASY SETUP list. Stuff you download from the web WILL NOT work. H.264, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, AVI...nada. Gotta convert.
    That being said...
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timeline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence.
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • FCE frame rate problem?!

Hi, if someone could help me with this asap that would be so helpful?!
Basically I'm having a problem with the frame rate in Final Cut Express. I was using 3 different Sequences to edit different clips/audio in. I then wanted to put them all in to the same Sequence but when I did the clips were flashing different colours and wouldn't play properly. All of the clips were 30fps however the project frame rate was 29.97fps? How did the frame rate of the project change because I didn't know you could change it and how can I change it back?! Thansk :-)

29.97fps is the actual frame rate for NTSC (North American) video.  It has historically been called "30fps" for convenience sake.  However in recent years true 30fps capability has appeared even in some consumer camcorders.  This can result in some subtle problems if you mix real 30fps material in a standard 29.97fps sequence.  The "change" you refer to could occur if your clips were recorded at a real 30fps and you put them in a 29.97fps sequence.  FCE will try to conform the clips to the sequence settings.
For completeness, here is what FCE supports:
SD video at the following frame rates.  FCE imports DV video as QuickTime/Apple DV during capture from your camcorder
    DV-NTSC @ 29.97 fps
    DV-PAL @ 25 fps
HD video at the following frame rates.  FCE transcodes all HD video (HDV and AVCHD)  to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec during capture from your camcorder.

My questions mainly concern memory. I bought all this stuff at the Tiger Direct outlet store in Naperville, Illinois. I had intended to buy the K8T Neo-FSR (754 pin), but they were supposedly out of the 754 pin 3400+, and this board/CPU combo had a $100 rebate. Yeah, it's one of those deals with the odd 939 pin 3400+ that everyone has been talking about.
In any case, I already had the Corsair CMX512-3200C2PT picked out, as Corsair said it was compatible with the board. I wasn't aware of the MSI compitibility chart until I came here later that night. I STILL can't find that chart off of the MSI web site.
Anyway, I got it all hooked up and got the standard 4 red LEDs. Not knowing what to do, I took it back to Tiger Direct and the tech played around with it until he stuck an el-cheapo stick (Corsair VS512MB400) in there and it worked. But it only works in slot 2. So here I am.
I started to run memtest86, but it took too long to run and I aborted it for now. For what it's worth, it said the RAM CAS value is 2.5-2-2-5. I don't know what the hell that means, but I know it's important.
    My questions:
    1. I assume I need manually to set my memory clock value to DDR400?
    2. Now that I can get the thing to post, is there any chance I could get the "good" Corsair memory to work by setting the correct latency/CAS values? Again, I don't know what I'm talking about, so forgive my ignorance. What I'm wondering is if I can set everything to what Corsair recommends while I have the cheap memory in there and then replace it with the good stuff?
    3. With this board, am I better off with double-sided or single-sided sticks? As I said, I went into the store intending to buy the Neo 754-pin board, but they were out of the Athlon 3400+ in 754 and only had the 939 pin.
    4. Anything else in my bios settings that stand out and need to be addressed? I want to make sure everything is optimized.
EDIT: I almost forgot: My CPU temp is runing around 42-49 degrees. Am I in the danger zone? I just bought a generic cooler for now and intend to get a Thermalright XP-120, but I can't find it locally, so it will have to wait.
    AND FINALLY...
I don't know if this is related to anything above, but I have been having a hell of a time getting the 6600GT to run DirectX9+ games. The latest drivers for Windows 98SE was 66.94. Yes, XP will be installed soon, but for now... It was failing on dxdiag test for Direct3d 9 and also the third DirectDraw test. I was about to give up and take it back when I discovered that a new beta driver came out today (71.84). I installed it and it passed all of the dxdiag tests. I thought I was in hawg-heaven, but when I run Call of Duty (the only DX9 game I have besides HL2), it slows to an absolute clawl. The level starts out somewhat normal at first, but quickly slows down to the point that performance can only be measured in seconds per frame! All of the patches 1.5 and 1.51 for UO have been installed, but that shouldn't make a bit of difference.
If I don't get my CoD fix soon I'm gonna reinstall that Geforce3.
Thanks much and sorry again for such a long post.

Thanks everyone for the recent replies, but I started this thread almost a month ago (March 3rd), and much has changed since then.
    New PSU (see sig).
Replaced the PNY Geforce6600GT with a eVGA 6800
Added another stick of the Corsair Value Select 512 RAM. I didn't even bother trying to get the "primo" CMX stick to work. I just returned it.
Went from Windows 98SE to XP Home.
The PSU did nothing for me at all, but I suppose it's better to have some headroom in the amperage.
The biggest performance booster was the additional 512MB of RAM. It wouldn't have done me any good in 98SE, but I was shocked at how much it helps XP. Quitting a game is almost instant now, where before it would take a good two minutes or so for XP to recover itself.
As for games running slow, the 6800 fixed it right up. CoD absolutely screams now, as does everything else I've thrown at it (HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry). I think the 6600GT was just bad or there is a serious driver problem with the 6600GT's. Went from 3DMark03 score of around 5000 (when it didn't crash) to above 9000 now. And this was all before adding the additional RAM.
Oh yeah, I bought a 74GB Raptor. No RAID for now though. So far I'm not real impressed with the performance. I'm running off of the VIA controller, since my board doesn't have the Promise controller. I don't see much improvement in loading times as compared to the 40GB 7200rpm Maxtor I have running on IDE1. The only time it beats the pants off the Maxtor is defragging. But there's only so much entertainment value in that.  The Sandra "file system benchmark" gave me 57 MB/s, which seems pathetic, but I've read some posts here where others are getting an identical rate.
And I'm not too happy to discover, too late, that my overclocking capabilities are severely limited while using SATA.
I do have one more question for now:
When I installed the second 512MB stick, I originally had both sticks in slot 1 and 2. I ran Sandra's memory bandwidth benchmark and got a much lower score than with the single stick (around 3500 MB/s). WHen I had the sticks in 1 and 3, it jumped up to close to 6000 MB/s. Why is that? Just curious.

  • Wav sound and frame rate problem

I have a wav file sound that I'm using within a movie clip in
the movie clip's timeline. When I test the movie from within Flash
(command-return), everything works great. When I publish and view
    online, here's what happens.
If I click a button to move to another frame in the movie
while the sound is playing, the frame rate speeds up and the movie
gets a "fast forward" look to it until the sound ends. If I click a
button when the sound is not playing, everything is fine. Am I
missing something in the publish settings? Do I need to stop the
sound in AS3 on the CLICK events (and if so, how)?
    Thanks,

You will have to use Compressor...and the Advanced Conversion settings...DVCPRO HD 720p24. But you will also need to go into the FRAME controls in the INSPECTOR and make sure that you make it progressive and that you changes all the settings to better or best. This means that it will take a while, but it will look better.

  • Frame Rate Problems in CS4

I am a student and I use CS4 on a Mac on one of the schools computers. One of the animation projects I am working I need to animate a music video.
To do this I calculated out the BPM of the song and set the frame rate at 23.3 FPS so that I would have 20 Frames between beats. Then to have a visual representation of the timing I set a layer that has a red dot blink for 2 frames every 20 frames starting on the first beat. With it set up like this and I run the animation in Flash it keeps time correctly and works. However, when I test the video the time is off. I tried changing the frame rate to 60fps as an arbitrary number to see if adjusting the frame rate had any affect of the test file but when I tested the video at 60fps it did not run any faster than before. I asked my professor about the problem but he doesn't know. I exported the video to a SWF and MOV file but it was still off.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

use a timer to display your dot so you can control its timing more accurately.  that said, the only elementary way to sync audio and visual in flash is to add the audio to your timeline and assign a sync of "stream".
note:  that's not the best way to use sound in flash but it's the only easy way to sync sound/visuals.

Okay so i had an iphone 5.  I backed it up on icloud. Then i got the new iphone 5s i restored ot from icloud from my previous iphone 5.  Now everything works find execept now the games are slowy and drops the frame rate and look choppy. Then i restarted my iphone 5s as a new device downloaded the same apps even the ones optimized for ios 7 and the games still lag. And i just got my iphone 5s replace.  The funny thing is.  While im playing games and their running choppy and slow and if i take a snap shot inside the phone. They run smooth and HD but just for a few seconds and boom they go back to slow and choppy.  Is it the ios 7 or the iphone 5s it self? Like i said this is my replacement iphone 5s because the other 5s did the same thing. And it was running slowly.

As far as I know you can't delete the primary email address for an iCloud account.  It's assigned when the account is created.  But your neighbor wouldn't have been able to get into your iCloud account without your Apple ID and password.  Are you sure the account wasn't still on your phone when you gave it to him?
You could migrate a copy of your data to a new iCloud account but I would still be concerned that someone else was using my old account, which presumably still has your data in it.
I'm fairly certain that you're going to have to have iCloud support help you sort this one out as they may have the ability to make changes to an existing account that users can't.  Make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at it.  If necessary, they should be able to contact iCloud support for you.

  • Live! Cam Video IM Pro VF0410 Frame Rate Problem

Hello I'm from Turkey sorry for my English first. I bought this camera yesterday and i tried it on 2 PC.First one is using Win Vista Home Premium (4Gb RAM + Core 2 Duo E6750),second one is Win XP Home (Gb Ram + Pentium M .8). In these PC's i can't get more than 4 or 5 FPS. I only saw 8 FPS for one second. I downloaded the?latest drivers from the site which is v.0.0 (2.68 Mb).Nothing changed it is 4 FPS again. What can i do what is this problem. Is my camera faulty ?

I too have the same problem. It seems to be a flaw with the software or the hardware. If you disable the auto exposure setting the frame rate will still site at 4-5 fps.
If you then move the exposure slider to the far left and then back to the right the frame rate will immediatley increase to 20-30 fps, but the exposure is quite poor even with the adjustment of brightness, contrast, etc. Is this a software bug or a hardware flaw?

  • Photon Focus MV-D1024E-160-CL-12 Camera frame rate problem.

    Hi,
I have a photon Focus MV-D1024E-160-CL-12 camera connected with a PCI2-1429 board. I trigger my camera externally using a NI-DAQ and an I/O board to the camera. I am having a problem with the frame rate of my camera. In the manual it says that the camera can operate at 150 fps. When I am triggering at 10Hz the camera works fine. But when I trigger it at 100 Hz the camera does not give me the required fps. I am imaging an analog clock to measure the fps. When I am triggering at 100 Hz I should get just 1sec in images but instead I am getting images of 3sec. I am using the NI-IMAQ sequence example for it. Is it a software problem (e.g. buffer allocation etc) or a hardware limitation.

  • Video Frame rate problem.

    Hi experts,
I am working with JMF to capture a video source and display it in a JInternalFrame.
I set the frame rate to 30fps, but when running the program I only have 1fps. If I set the LightWeightRenderer of the Manager to false, then I have 16fps (not the 30fps requested).
If I use JMStudio I get the 30fps.
Do you have any idea of what's going wrong ??
    Your ideas are welcome.
    Matthieu

    Thanks for your answers.
In fact, I am capturing a video source coming from an echograph with a Miro PCTV video card (bt848).
My computer runs with WinXP on a PentiumIII 450Mhz, 256Mo of RAM, and a NVidia GeForce 2 GTS with 32Mo of RAM.
    I obtained the following results:
-> Using RGB, 640x480, 24bits, 30fps :the real frame rate is 3-4 fps.
-> Using YUV, 640x480, 30fps: the frame rate reaches 15 fps.
         -> Using JMStudio I always get 30fps.
This frame rate is given by the video player.
I think that the problem is not linked to the hardware configuration but in the way the video is displayed in the application.
Indeed, I don't anderstand why JMstudio is able to give 30fps and my application only a few fps.
The main difference is that I display the video in a JInternalFrame and in a Frame. But even if I supress the Manager.LightWeightRenderer support results are a little better but I never reach the 30fps.
To build the video renderer I have used the MDIApp.java and JMFrame.java files given by Sun.
My question is what can do the difference? How can the Sun code be so performant ?
If you want more details on my code, I can put some piece of code on the forum.
Thanks to find a solution because I am going to go crazy !!!!

  • Frame skip/choppy frame rate problems

    Hi all,
I have been benchmarking different sprite rendering methods on iPhone, and seem to have a consistently choppy framerate when publishing using CPU.  If I use GPU the frame rate is not choppy, but the overall performance is much slower.
    I have a detailed analysis here: http://www.pixelthismobile.com/blog/1/10/2010/flash-iphone-wildly-fluctuating-framerate-or -frame-skip
All I am doing is drawing a number of sprites to a static bitmap on the stage (using copyPixels), clearing the bitmap before each frame.
Basically the framerate jumps rapidly between two values (a low and a high - for example 15 fps and 52 fps) at a very consistent rate of about 3 cycles per second.  I am at a loss...
Would be great if anybody had any insights.
    Regards,
    Peter
p.s. This uses PFI v1, have yet to try with v2.

I'm starting to get to the bottom of this! Seems the choppy performance is being caused by my benchmarking routine, which pushes a single Number value on to an array every frame.   I assumed this was due to memory allocation so I tried a fixed size array and simply setting a value each frame. Still choppy.  So I got rid of the benchmark code altogether. All that is left is this code: frameCount++; And the choppy frame problem is STILL there! Without the ++ it is fine o.O - how absolutely bizarre. Who would have thought a post increment would cause a choppy frame rate!?  Still doing more testing so stay tuned...
Nope - it is frame skip
