Frame vs Word - RH Integration

I am working on justifying the use of FM for our
single-source documentation tool. With all the problems associated
with FM8 -> RH7, what are the pros of this decision? The
importing of Word documents is almost seamless and seemingly
painless. There is always the issue of referencing graphics files,
of course, but does this one advantage outweigh disadvantages
associated with fighting FM8's massive learning curve?
Any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

If your documentation is over 100 pages, stay away from Word.
Author care is right on. Frame is worth the learning curve time.
You will spend that time pulling your hair out trying to 'tweak' a
large Word document.
I am hoping and praying however, that Adobe will produce the
'printed output' of robohelp in FrameMaker, not Word.

  • MS Word OLE integration i new UI??

    Hi Folks
    We are in the middle of an upgrade from CRM 3.1 to CRM2007.  And the new WEB UI.
    In our old SAP gui, we have developped a ABAP Report program that collects a lot of data, and then via OLE integrated to a Word document. We didn't use the DOI, but just called a lot of methods in Word.
    I have tried to execute our old ABAP Report via the Transaction Launcer in the new UI. And the first part of
    it - collecting all the data - works fine. But the integration to word does not work.
    Does anyone have an idea how to make this integration. The result of the progam is a nice formatted Word Document with a lot of fixed texts combined wit data from the CRM system!
    Best regards
    Carsten

    <b>word_document</b> = location of the existing document in which you want to change the val (d:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\Doc1.doc)
    <b>File_name</b> = File name to which the modified file to be saved (just give the same file name you opened - Doc1.doc - just the file name and not the whole path)
    <b>Download_path</b>
    path for downloading  (d:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\)
    <b>Data_tab</b> = any internal table
    <b>filednames</b> = field names of the internal table in a table .  for example if your itab has fielda, fieldb and fieldc , then this table first record value should be fielda and second record value should be fieldb, etc.
    Hope this is clear.

  • Office 365 (Word) Onedrive integration on a Mac

    Friends, I have recently started using a Mac computer. I've been trying to understand how does the integration of  Office 365 (Word)  and Onedrive work on a Mac, yet had no success so far. These is the problem:
    When using Office 365 (Word) on a Windows computer, whenever I wanted to open or save a file I was asked if I wanted to open or save it locally or on my Onedrive folders. The integration of Word and Onedrive on a Mac seems very poor, unless I am missing something here. On a Mac it seems that once I start Word, if I want to open a Onedrive file I have to go out of the application to do it. I have to go to the Onedrive folder where my file is located and then open it, which will result on Word opening it. Is there any way to, just as in a Windows environment, open and save files to Onedrive without having to leave Word?
    Hope someone can help me here.

    The solution is very simple.
    You have to install Microsoft OneDrive from the Mac AppStore. It synchronizes your OneDrive folders to the Mac. Afterwards, you usually find a OneDrive folder in your Home folder. From there, you can access all files as usual. If you change any file, it will be synchronized in both ways (Mac to OneDrive, OneDrive to Mac).
    I use this on a daily basis and have no problems with it.
    Have a nice day!

  • Document Templates in MS Word (Office-Integration)

    Hi there,
    i´m desperately looking for help concerning the following problem with integration of MS Word-Templates to our CRM:
    We are using CRM 5.0 (as well as PCUI) and Office Integration with MS Word 2003. We created Document Templates (for Object Type BUS2000126) in MS Word witch contain variables, integrated as MergeField in the Word Template.
    This works quite well, but we have problems when using switches.
    For example field code: {MERGEFIELD ANS_Title   ""} = field result
    shows (for example) "Dr.f" instead of "Dr. ". The switch   should fill
    in a space if the variable is not blank.
    By the way... when I create the Word-Template from SAP GUI, switches give back the right data - but not from PCUI!
    Can anybody help me with this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Johnny,
    thank you very much for your help. But I think, this SAP Note does not help. The SAP Note is valid for CRM 4.0 - but we actually use CRM 5.0. If you have any further ideas, please let me know!

  • Word 2000 integration with D2K

    Hi,
    I'm working in a project that involves using Word 2000 for output, I'm using the OLE2 package, so far I've had relative success, but there are some objects in the Word object model that seem to be unreachable from D2K. I've had trouble when I try to access any particuar object from a collection using it's associated index
    For example Trying to get the first table of the current selection:
    In VBA:
    objTable = selection.tables(1)
    Using OLE2
    objWord := OLE2.CREATE_OBJ('WORD.APPLICATION');
    objSel := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(objWord,'SELECTION');
    objArgList := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(objArgList,1);
    objSelTable := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(objSel,'TABLES',objArgList);
    I've tried replacing GET_OBJ_PROPERTY with INVOKE_OBJ, but both didn't work and throwed exceptions
    Does anybody succesfully solved this particular issue??

    Never mind...I found the solution by deeply studying MS Word's object model, it seems that Microsoft gave an alternate method for referencing an object within it's collection, and that way is the "item" method.
    Every collection has this method, which takes an index for parameter, it has to be called using OLE2.INVOKE_OBJ, the code that I gave for example now looks like this:
    objWord := OLE2.CREATE_OBJ('WORD.APPLICATION');
    objSel := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(objWord,'SELECTION');
    objSelTables := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(objSel,'TABLES');
    objArgList := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(objArgList,1);
    objTable := OLE2.INVOKE_OBJ(objSelTables,'ITEM',objArgList);

  • Exporting Frame content to Word?

    Hi,
    I am working on manuals that have been done in both Frame 7.2 and Word 2003 and am hoping to migrate to a newer version of Frame some day.
    Right now I'm trying to update a few Word-based manuals with some content from Frame docs but it's slow and tedious.
    If I cut a range of text and graphics from the Frame doc, and do a Paste Special -> RTF into Word, all I get is the text without the original formatting (the Frame styles don't survive the cut and paste). BTW, Word offers only RTF and text as methods for Paste Special. Then I have to cut and paste each graphic with Paste-> Special -> Bitmap. The SOP here is to embed all graphics rather than link them.
    Can anyone advise if there is an easier way to move content from Frame to Word? If it's possible in a later release, then that would be motivation to upgrade.
    Yours,
    Michael F

    The filters in newer version of FM seem to have evolved slightly, but the Best Practice solution is to buy a copy of MIF2Go from omsys.com and use that to export. It's the only solution that maintains most of the look and feel of the FM documents and doesn't drop data on the floor.

  • PDF to Word = Floating frame boxes

    Hello,
    I have converted some pdf files to word files in Acrobat 8.x.
    The resulting Word document (2007 *.docx) seems to be made up of series of floating boxes/frames of each individual line or paragraph over the Word page. Is there a way of inserting or  embedding them so that they would be like a regular Word document, as considerable editing is required of this document.
    Alternately how can they be coverted as to eliminated this needed next step.
    Thanks
    PDF to Word => Floating frame boxes

    The boxes/frames are Word's means of providing some semblance of layout.
    The source PDF was not a well formed Tagged PDF.
    When a source file is mastered with a consistent logical hierarchy that uses built-in headings and styles, each of which is providing desired white space above/below lines and paragraphs and the authoring application has an adequate tag management mechanism for support of Tagged output PDF you have that "well formed tagged PDF".
    One of Tagged PDF's facilities is to support migrating the Tagged PDF's content, layout, and format to other, supported file formats with the consequence of little to no post-migration "clean up".
    Unfortuately, the PDF you converted to Word was not a well formed tagged PDF.
    While you could use Acrobat Pro to tag an untagged PDF that often gets you a basic, rough tagged PDF if the content is other than simple.
    Continued manual editing of the resultant structure tree can, in time, yield  the well formed tagged PDF.
    Or, after having Acrobat Pro add tags & then saving - give the export to Word another try to see what you get.
    It may be enough to escape the "boxes/frames" scenario.
    Trying to do anything with content in those boxes/frames in Word is ...well a really fustrating endeavor.
    Lot of pain &, ultimately, no gain trying to cut-paste-assemble into something useful for the 'real' editing.
    If working on the PDF to develop a basically adequate structure tree is not an option consider a Save As of the PDF to a text file.
    Then bringing that into Word.
    Use the desired Word template's Headings and Styles to establish format and layout.
    Then have a go with grammar and spell check.
    Be well...

  • Word 2007 "Save as Adobe PDF" - Pictures not showing up in PDF

    Good Afternoon,
    I have run into this error recently when using the "Save as Adobe PDF" to publish Word 2007 report.
    Each report has an table - pasted from Excel 2007 "as a picture - when printed". The reports have a ton of other jpg pictures.
    After creation, when I open the PDF, some of the tables appear to have become transparent. Where the picture used to be is a selection box, as if there were a picture there, but it's merely blank. All of the photos, frames, and Word-based tables show up. Some of the pasted-from-Excel tables also show up, not these ones.
    Is there a reason for this discrepency? Is there a way to resolve the issue? I used the search bar and found nothing that matched my issue. All of my software is up to date.
    Thank you for whatever help you can provide.
    J

    did you ever solve this issue? I have the same problem and "view large images" is the only answer I can find and it DOES NOT WORK.
    I posted the question elsewhere, but nobody has replied. here's my situation:
    When creating PDF documents from any software (Illustrator, Corel, InDesign, etc), color objects over 50% of the page size have white fill. If object has an outline, the outline will appear normally, but the fill will be white. I've searched forums everywhere and have found no answer. Most forum topics on this are issue focus on settings in the program that exported the PDF. I am 100% sure this is not an export problem, but is something in Acrobat itself (a missed setting? Corrupt program file?)
    To provide the best information, I've done a little scientific research. Here is what I know:
    Currently running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5
    This is only happening on ONE install of Acrobat 9. Documents display correctly in Reader X and in Acrobat 9 on other machines.
    Started happening a few weeks ago, I have no idea what changed.
    "Show Large Images" in preferences dialog is checked. Unchecking it and rechecking it does nothing.
    Have installed all available updates to the software
    I experimented with different object sizes. At 50% of page size, objects appeared normal, at 51% filled object disappears.
    Does not affect photos, only affects vector objects.
    running this on Windows Vista 64 Bit

  • Edit document that was converted from PDF to Word Doc.

    How do I edit a document that I converted from a PDF to a word document????? When I open my now "Word Document" it does not allow me to edit the text.

    Bill, The PDF came from a scanning of a Word document, but my office did not produce the PDF and I don't know exactly how the original Word document was scanned, whether OCR was engaged at that stage, etc., but the select tool in Adobe Reader leads to the cross-hairs on the PDF. We are working without AA, and I was trying to convert the PDF back to an editable Word document through ExportPDF, with which I thought I had had some success in the past in similar circumstances (converting an image PDF back to an editable Word document). With this document, the conversion back to Word through ExportPDF has led to an uneditable Word document with text in image frames whether OCR is on or off in the PDF to Word conversion effort... and if there is a way to remove the frames in Word, but keep the text, I haven't "re"figured it out yet. For instance, triple clicking doesn't seem to do anything.
    On this particular document, we've gone back to the old fashioned way of retyping the page that has the error in it ... and sticking it back in the document. (It also would have been smarter timewise for me in this case to have spent more time on tracking down the preceding Word document.)
    Was I missing something in the conversion process from scanned image PDF to Word document with edit capabilities? Thanks!

  • Inplace Word document into SAP in ECC 6.0 (it runs in 4.6)

    We are in the process of upgrading from 4.6C to ECC 6 and have encountered an unusual situation.
    In 4.6 system, we have a Z report which charge a word template (integrated in SAP Screen) with some data about employees. This programs doesn't run in ecc 6.0.
    Doing a debbug, we change the parameter inplace (before had 'X', now we've clear it) of the following methods, and now it runs, but take out, in a Microsoft Word window, the template with the data.
      CALL METHOD control->init_control
                          EXPORTING r3_application_name = text-bas
                                    inplace_enabled = inplace
                                    inplace_scroll_documents = 'X'
                                    parent = container
                                    register_on_close_event = 'X'
                                    register_on_custom_event = 'X'
                                    no_flush = 'X'.
    and
      CALL METHOD document->open_document
                        EXPORTING open_inplace = inplace
                                  document_url = item_url.
    Does anybody know how we can do for maintain the old presentation way (without an external Word Window)?
    Thanks and Best regards.
    Abel Raya.

    Refer to Note 160892
    A modification is described in the below with which more than 120 value fields are allowed for an operating concern. SAP does not accept responsibility for problems resulting from the implementation of this modification.
    Pre-Requisite
    Before you increase the number of the characteristics or value fields, check whether all characteristics and value fields of the operating concern are required.
    I guess, there is no increase in the number of value fields in ECC6 standard over 120.

  • BI Publisher Performance integrated with OBIEE 11g

    Has anyone seen issues around the performance of rendering the BI Publisher frame when it is integrated with an OBIEE dashboard (11g)?
    If I create a simple BI Publisher off a simple data model (Select 1 from dual). I open the BIP report within the BI Publisher environment (XmlpServer) and it opens in seconds.
    When I open this same report within the OBIEE Web Catalog or place it on a dashboard page I have seen it take upwards of 40-50 seconds to render the frame then the report. The time seems to me more around rendering the frame.
    Usually when you initiate your first session you see the longest rendering time, subsequent runs of the report are lower but still higher then the few seconds it takes in the BIP environment.
    Has anyone else seen this issue, we opened a ticket with Oracle and it seems they are leaning toward creating a BUG around this. Just wanted to see what others were experiencing and if they identified the source of the issue. Thanks.

    Hi Dustin,
    The FMW security model in BI Publisher means it is integrated into OBIEE - I believe it's the default. If you're using authenticating and authorising via weblogic then I can't think of a good reason to use BI Server authentication in publisher, you should be using FMW security.
    In answer to your question tThere was no bug raised. The work around for us was using document 1338007.1. In your case that doesn't seem necessary since you're using OVD already.
    Edit - should just add that if your OVD authentication is set up in the repository then you need to shift that to the weblogic server security model and remove any authentication logic from the repository. After that the FMW security model for publisher should work.

  • How to insert Definite Integral symbol?

    Hi there, I'm trying to input a definite integral symbol where I can type in the lower and upper limits. I've only found the basic integral symbol under edit > special characters.
    Thanks!

    orikie
    As has already been pointed out there is no difficulty obtaining a definite integral sign if you use MathType.
    In fact, when you click on the appropriate symbol in MathType's packed toolbar you will discover that most types of definite integrals are catered for - not just the simplest: (in words) the integral of F(x)dx from x equals a to x equals b.
    As for the positioning of the limits, you can adjust their vertical positions relative to the integral sign by experimenting with Sizes. NB assign everything whose sizes you dont to vary to a size assigned as per "Other" Also, if you wish, you can also move them sideways to suit.

  • Jumbo frame ethernet

    I came across a number of articles relating to jumbo frame gigabit ethernet and integrating into existing networks with fastethernet and 1518 frame size gigabit ethernet devices. Heres a quote i'd like to discuss...
    "Today, however, applications optimized for large frame sizes can easily be integrated with existing Ethernet LANs without causing interoperability problems. For example, you can partition a logical network in which systems can exchange Jumbo Frames and mark them with IEEE 802.1Q virtual LAN tags. The extended frames will be transparent to the rest of the network.
    Adapters that implement IEEE 802.1Q can support different Ethernet frame sizes for different logical network interfaces. For example, a server could communicate with another server using Jumbo Frames while communicating with clients sitting on another VLAN or IP subnet using standard Ethernet frames - all via the same physical connection."
    The use of VLANs to ease interoperability issues is discussed in numerous articles and papers on jumbo ethernet - however, can someone pls explain why cisco have and the implications of the design decision they have taken with the 3750 switches to have no flexibility with configuring jumbo frame support, It can't be assigned on port-by-port basis, nor even on a VLAN basis but is set system wide so on a 24 port 10/100/1000 switch all ports are configured as jumbo regardless of what the connected client devices support.
    Are there any plans to upgrade the IOS to support configuring jumbo frames on per VLAN basis. Jumbo frames are an important issue to us as we can benefit from the performance increases and the improved server CPU utilization. Any thoughts ?

    Best practice here is to segment your Jumbo Frame servers on their own VLANs for Jumbo supported systems only.
    As a post here has already mentioned, Path MTU discovery will tell the systems on the Jumbo VLANs to keep the frames under 1500 when talking to a non-Jumbo VLAN.
