Frame9: Find/replace missing fonts?

Search function doesn't seem to work, so I hope you'll bear with me.
When I open a frame book/documents, I get a message in the FrameMaker Console: "The "<foo>" Font is not available. "<bar>" will be used in this session.
Question: In InDesign, there's a font find/substitute feature (I don't recall the proper wording offhand). Is there something similar in Frame 9? (I've looked but can't find one.)

Even though our production environment is FM7.1/Unix, presumably opening in FM9/Win, cleaning up fonts, and re-saving as MIF would allow subsequent opening in FM7.1 (or would it ... I can conceive of Unicode font encoding issues arising).
If you ever need a workflow that crosses the Unicode barrier (between FrameMaker versions 7.2 and 8) you have to test everything, since the additional power of Unicode encoding may introduce stuff, that will get lost in previous versions.
Of course, for those without FM9 or 10, the classical way to handle Missing Fonts was to save as MIF, and use a text editor to perform global search&replace on the phantoms. There are just too many places for fonts to hide to chase them down from within pre-9 Frame.
IMO, the even simpler and almost always good enough method was to just switch off the »Save Unknown Font Names« in File > Preferences before opening and saving such files. This replaces those font references with the default font (which in turn can be set in the maker.ini, if you really need something special).
With three actions File > Open/Save/Close All Files in Book (press the Shift key before clicking the menu) even complete books are cleaned-up quite easily.

  • Finding and replacing Missing Fonts

    Dear All,
I need to find the missing fonts in the InDesing document and replace them into correct fonts using JavaScript.
    Pl. help.
    Thanks,
    ArcRaj

    Ole,
For a moment you had me rejoicing (I hadn't tried this in 5.0.3 yet). But my joy was short-lived, as I still can't get it to work. For instance,
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedFont =
    app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold');
still tells me that "The requested font is not available." That font is not installed on my system but is used in the active document.
Absent fonts seem to confuse ESTK. Getting some properties of this non-installed font leads to different results:
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').index
gives -1. Don't know what that means, but there's a result and no error.
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').fontFamily
gives Swiss 721 BT. Result as expected. (It's not the case that to return this property ESTK doesn't bother to check whether the font exists: ...('Olav Kvern\tBold').fontFamily produces an error.)
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').location
doesn't do much apart from repeating the property name. No error, nothing in the console; just "location" in the staus bar at the bottom of ESTK's app window.
    Am I missing something?

  • Auto replace missing fonts durring script place

I have a script that runs on startup that places a word document in a new indesign document. The problem is that if there are fonts in the word document that indesign can't find, then we get a message saying there are missing fonts and a series of javascript errors because there's a dialog open.
Is there an option to have it automatically replace missing fonts with a specified font?
    InDesign CS5
    Windows

Form my understanding you can't replace missing fonts until the document is open. To avoid the missing fonts modal dialog, you can set
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
before opening the document and then make your font substitutions. Don't forget to reset the userInteractionLevel when your script is done!

  • How to replace missing fonts with a specific font (and not a suggested font)

    Hello all!
Looking to replace missing fonts within my document - but the drop-down selection only gives a couple of suggestions, none of which are the font I want to use.
How can I replace the fonts with a font of my choosing?
I've attached an image to give more clarity - notice how the drop-down only gives the option to select between 3 fonts without an option to select your own font - many thanks!

Same problem! The only solution I found is to prepare a textbox in a new file with all the font you need. Copy and past in the file you need to change font. Go to type/risolve missing font. Will open the same window in the pic you pasted. Then you find the font in the dropdown menu. I have to change all the Helvetica family ...it's a long go. If some one could save me. Hope to be usefull to your problem.

  • How to find the missing fonts while running the script?

    hi,
I need to create a script to find the missing font. not only for that. Actually i created a script to read the file properties. but i have a problem while running the script.
I have put "User Interation Level" to never interact. Even i need to check wheather each file have "missing fonts". mean time i never stop the script.
    Is It Possible???
    Regards,
    SubhaOviya

Here's a shot of the Find Font Dialog:
Papyrus (highlighted in the list) is missing, and there's a yellow warning triangle to show that. Fonts that ar not missing have an icon to show the type of font. You'll also see it shown as missing in the "Info" box at the bottom of the dialog.
If you use the Replace With dropdown you will only see fonts listed that are installed on the system. In order to actually use the missing font, rather than substitute a different font in its place, you must obtain and install the missing font on the system.
Are you seeing something different when you open Find Font?

  • Why can't I replace missing fonts with my desktop fonts?

I just updated to CC 2014 which implemented the new Typekit features. Now "Find Font" is "Resolve missing fonts..." which only allows missing fonts to be replaced with Typekit fonts or other fonts already found in the document.
Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous? I have a document with the 'Avenir Next Pro' font missing, but have no way to change all instances to the "Avenir Next" font that I have installed on my computer.
The only thing that seems to work, is to select each instance of the missing font and then change the font in the character menu. Or to change one text layer and then use "Resolve missing fonts..." to select the font that has now become an option that
it exists in the document. Both processes work, but they're heavy handed and leave a lot of room for human error. Plus they're frickin' annoying!
    What gives, Adobe?
    - a confused and grumpy, lazy designer.

No you're not the only one who finds this ridiculous. Font replacement in other Adobe apps works absolutely fine, so why is the Photoshop team intent on making this into a difficult useless feature?

  • Replace missing fonts with default fonts

I used fonts in my document that were not downloaded to my computer.  I would like to replace these fonts with the default fonts that the computer automatically substituted.  Is there any way to find out what fonts were used to make these substitutions?

I realize this is an old post, but maybe it will still help.
Was looking for the same functionality in Photoshop as in InDesign, where upon selecting "Replace all Missing Fonts", there would be a dialog box allowing me to choose the fonts to replace to. Instead, it just arbitrarily selects "Myriad Pro", regardless.
My solve, as clunky as it is, worked OK if your whole document uses the same font for everything. E.g. a font across multiple slides of a presentation.
Using the newer filtering options in the Layer menu, select the "Filter for Type layers".
Select all the type layers with the yellow triangle warning.
Go to your Type menu and select the font you want to replace to.
You will be prompted for each layer to confirm the change, get ready to hit "OK" a lot of times.
Click on the "Filter for Type Layers" option again to restore your full menu list.
Should take care of the issue.
With that said, this is a feature request that is well overdue!

Would I need a premium subscription to Creative Cloud to access all the fonts in Typekit?
    Nope!

    But
I can't seem to find Rotis San Serif font anywhere.
Nor can I - in Typekit, anyways.
You certainly can buy it, though:

  • Find the Missing font text content in indesign document

How to find and get the missing font content in the indesign documents by using the SDK. give a tips and techniques.
    Anybodys help me.

It wont answer your question, but you could have this problem too:
I have a problem in my current project where text frame having no text make the document report the usage of a font wich we dont want the project to use (times by exemple). The problem being that Indesign report usage of a font wich is in fact not applied to any text. Weird!
The easy fix is to identify those items (text frame class + no text) and reassign them as "unassigned".

  • Replace missing font with font of my choice in Photoshop CS5

I'm using Photoshop CS5. How can I replace all instances of a missing font with a font of my choice?

I am having the same problem. From what I read around the web, there is supposed to be a dialogue box which opens to ask which font you want to use. I don't get a dalogue box, it simply replaces the missing fonts automatically with Myriad Pro without asking which font I want to use. If anyone knows how to get the dialogue box to appear, I'd appreciate the help.
    I am using CC.
    Thanks!

  • Find/Replace Missing With New Monitor

    Hi,
I've been happily using DW CS4 for about a year now with 2 19" monitors. I recently am stuck using a single 22" monitor which is generally fine, but my Find/Replace window is now missing. I'm assuming it is off somewhere in the 'virtual' screen. How do I get it -back-? I tried resetting the workspace but although it brings together most of the windows, I do -not- see Find/Replace. (I -can- however see the Find/Replace results pane).
    Ideas?
    TIA.
    ---JC

Anyone? Driving me -nuts- not having a 'find' window!
I can see the Search -Results- pane, but not the window where one types in the text to 'find'.
    Help!

  • Don't replace missing fonts

Usually when you don't have a font and you click on a text section it shows a message "You don't have a font blah blah do you want to replace font XX with font blah blah".
Today I worked on two psd's and both had the "Some fonts are missing and will be automatically replaced" message when I tried to open them. I had 3-4 missing fonts but only 1 of them was replaced automatically (when I clicked on the section the name of the font was different than the original) and the even stranger thing is I had other text sections with that font that were with the original font.
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.6 (13.0.6 20131025.r.54 2013/10/25:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.9.4
I hope you have understood what my problem is and have any ideas on how to solve it or explain this strange to me behaviour.

I am having the same problem with not displaying fonts that I have been using. I was sent to this link  Font issues in FreeHand MX which suggests that I delete the ttf as in font.ttf, but I have been unable to figure out how to do that. Any suggestions?
I am using FreeHand 10 in Mac OS SnowLeopard in Parallels. My iMac OS is 10.8.5

  • CS3 is replacing missing fonts with Myriad

I am opening a file that uses some fonts that are missing. OK, and I get the warning message to that effect. Normally CS3 shows the alert badge on the layer and if the layer is selected & type tool active, it will show you the missing font name in brackets. BUT now when the file opens, there are no alert badges and the fonts are all changed to Myriad!
I tried deleting my prefs but that didn't help.

We received similar issue before http://forums.adobe.com/message/3024227#3024227
Do you have Font Agent Pro? If you do, please remove Font Agent Pro plug-in from Photoshop Plug-ins folder and try.
    Hope this helps.
