FrameMaker 11 and Windows 8.1 - Compatible?

I am a relative newcomer and am not sure if this question belongs here.  If not, please let me know.
I am about to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (won't go into why) and of course I need to make sure FrameMaker 11 works there.  Does it?
Thanks ALOT in advance.
Herry

FWIW, I successfully ran FrameMaker 7 on different Windows versions starting in 2002 on XP all the way up to Windows 8.1. Adobe doesn't support doing this kind of thing but I had only very minor issues. (Finally upgraded to version 12 a few months ago.)

In purchasing Win 8.1 (and probably a new computer), you have effectively made some of your software obsolete. If AA 7 installation is successful with Acrobat and Distiller, you will still have to create a work around as the Adobe PDF printer drive and AcroTray are neither compatible with Win 8.1. You might try to install it in XP compatibility mode. The drivers I mentioned will still probably fail.

  • RVL200 and Windows 7 not compatible

Does anyone know of an updated firmware for the RVL200 that fixes the Windows 7 connections issue?
Vista works with a few adjustments to the browser settings but Windows 7 does not.
    Thanks,
    Dino

Adobe posted on their site that CS3 and CS4 will work on windows 7 but there will be issues disclaimer. When I read that it was enough for me not to use it on windows 7. Seems to me Adobe customer service and what is printed on their website is not on the same sheet of music. If using PS to put food on the table I wouldn't put it on windows 7 unless you have a backup plan like another computer to use.

  • FrameMaker 7 vs Windows 7 and Windows Vista

We have several computers with either Windows 7 or Windows Vista. On these we have Frame version 7 (latest patch). I have heard that Frame 7 is not compatible with these 2 operating systems. Is that true?
We all have the same problem:
If we, with our mice, try to mark text in a flow or cells in a table, and have the left button pressed too long (more than a couple of seconds), FM freezes. The only way to get out of this is to crash it and loose everything since the last save.
Will this problem go away if we upgrade to version 9? Has anybody else experienced the same, upgraded and now FM behaves properly?
    Lena, Sweden

    Lena,
we are currently running FrameMaker 7.2 on Windows 7, and we too are experiencing 'Not Responing' hanging issues that we have to then end FrameMaker and lose the unsaved information.
I initially thought it was network related but eliminated this when i looked at files on a local hard disk.
I can now produce the error by selecting a large section of a framemaker document and trying to copy it (we have a lot of referenced illustrations which are EPS files stored on the network and these seem to assist in causing the program to hang.)
I found reference on a site about the Desktop Windows Manager, and decided to do a test. I have forced my computer in to a Hang situation and then looked at ending the dwm.exe process in task manager. As soon as i do this, the screen flashes, and i now have a responding framemaker program. I have done it a few times and it seems to correct it each time.
DWM is linked into the Aero interface. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_Window_Manager, so it looks like the way to get framemaker 7 working is to turn off/disable the DWM service,
Under  Control Panel ->  System and Security ->  Administrative Tools ->   Services ->  Desktop Window Manager Session Manager  ->  Disabled
I would recommend testing this by causing Framemaker to stop responding and then use Task Manager to end DWM.exe. If this works the long term solution would be to disable the DWM  Service. I am going to do this and see how i get on.
Hope this information is of some use.

  • Is Magic Mouse compatible with PC and Windows Vista

Hello to everyone, I'm a new member of this forum, I hope someone will help me, please.
I'm taking a look at the latest beautiful Apple's product and I felt in love with Magic Mouse, I'd like to have it for ma PC (not a Mac) with OS Vista.
Is there anyboby who knows if this mouse is compatible with a Pc and Windows Vista OS?
Actually I don't have bluetooth thecnology on my pc but if Magic Mouse were compatible I'd buy an usb adaptor.
Thanks to everyone will help e!

I asked a similar question a few hours back and no answers yet. I think nobody knows since nobody has had the chance to test them. If previous releases are any indication, you'll probably get basic functionality because it is bluetooth, but for the advanced features or setting options you'll have to wait for a Windows driver, which can sometimes take a few months or more.

  • If i use a usb flash drive which is both os and windows compatible can i transfer files from my mac to a windows pc using the same usb flash drive?

if i use a usb flash drive which is mac os and windows compatible can i use it to copy files from the mac to a windows machine. i have to do some training abroad and wnat to take the files on a usb from the mac but they will only have a windows operating system available to me.

Generally, it's not the flash drive that makes it compatible, but the formatting used on it.  In Disk Utility on a Mac, the format is called MS-DOS (FAT).  In Windows, I believe it is called FAT32.
A USB flash drive formatted that way should be readable and writable on both Mac OS X and Windows.  But you may want to try a "trial run" before relying on it for the trip.

  • Fieldpoint Hardware Drivers that are compatible with LV 8.5 and Windows Vista

Also, are there any potential conflicts with me developing on Vista, if my end-user, is uding another OS?

    Hi Daddy-O,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.  This is a little misleading, and unfortunately the driver you are looking for is currently not directly searchable.  In order to use your FieldPoint hardware with LabVIEW 8.5 and Windows Vista, you will need the FieldPoint 6.0 driver.  This can be found within the disk that is distributed with new FieldPoint hardware, and any Device Drivers CD from August 2007 forward.  Unfortunately, a standalone installer is not available for this driver, and if you do not have a hard copy of the Device Drivers, you can download this here.  From this installer, you should be able to select FieldPoint 6.0 and install this software.
I hope this helps!  Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify.  Have a great day!

  • External Hard Drive Compatible with Mac and Windows?

So my old laptop is a Dell Latitude and I bought a Western Digital external hard drive and put all my files/pics/music on it. The information the WD came with said its compatible with Mac and Windows, but when I plug it into my brand spankin new Macbook, it doesn't register with the computer and won't show up. What's going on?
    Message was edited by: philliesphan

I recently ran into that problem. In order to have the hard drive compatible for both PC and Mac it must be in a FAT32 format. In order to do this though all your files will be deleted (in order to reformat). You can do this by plugging in the hard drive into you mac and going under disk utility and there you will find your hard drive and under erase change the format to FAT32 and then you press erase (all will be deleted off the external drive though)

Is photoshop elements 10 and premiere elements 10 compatible with windows 8.1?  I am upgrading from XP and am trying to determine if I should go to 8.1 or windows 7?

    MakoM
Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 are compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit. I have them installed on those operating systems and no problems. My video card is Intel HD Graphics.
But, a major question is what video card will be used? There is a major issue with Premiere Elements 10 users whose computers use a NVIDIA GeForce video card. It is fixed by rolling back the driver to about May 2013. This is a user to user fix. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has offered one. Full details are the Announcement at the top of the Premiere Elements Forum

  • Getting Creative with FrameMaker 1x and Windows 7

For some years I have been treading water with my FrameMaker installation, mainly because of nagging inconsistencies and 'unforeseen consequences' relating to Windows, Acrobat, FrameMaker (and the phases of the moon).
Back in 2009 I updated my workstation to a HP HP xw4600 with a Quad Core, 4GB ram, and 2 x 250GB SATA. I installed Win XP Pro and subsequently patched it to SP-3 with ALL the hotfixes, including 'WindowsXP-KB952909-v2-x86-ENU.exe', which fixes some PDF font issues. Having got FrameMaker 8.0p277 installed along with with Distiller 8.x.x everything more or less worked. Being a careful soul I made sure I used OpenType fonts where possible (Garamond Pro, Minion Pro & Myriad Pro - all licensed). So far, so good.
I got reckless and upgraded to Creative Suite Design Pro 4 with Acrobat Pro 9 and then installed it. Disaster. Acrobat 9.x.x and Distiller 8.x.x don't co-exist. And FrameMaker 8 doesn't particularly want to play with Acrobat/Distiller 9.x.x. Damn!
So, I pulled all the software offa my workstation, reinstalled Creative Suite Design Pro 4 and Acrobat Pro 9 on the xw4600, and installed FrameMaker 8.0p277 and Acrobat Pro 8.x.x on a HP dc7900 SFF that I just happened to have lying around :-). OS as before. Both machines fully patched.
This is not particularly efficient, but everything works. Howsomever, Win XP Pro, though I love it dearly, is slated for the chop in 2014 according to Microsoft. Now I managed to dodge the Vista bullet, but I have to start making plans to migrate to Win 7/8 in an orderly fashion.
Which brings me to Win 7.
Reading the Creative Suite forums suggests that CS 4/5/5.5 has 'issues' with Win 7, especially Win 7 64 bit. But you need 64 bit to use more than 3.46GB of RAM, and RAM is a very important commodity when you're running Photoshop. Very!
Also, FrameMaker 10 was released just before Win 7, and has it's own 'issues' with Win 7 64 bit (see recent posts in the Frame forum).
So, my question is: At what point do Windows 7/8, FrameMaker 10/11, Acrobat Pro X/XI, and Creative Suite 5.5/6 all get together and play reliably without munging fonts or locking up? Is this a pipe-dream, or is there a team at Adobe addressing the really big issue of collaboratively getting your stuff (!) together?
    Just asking...

There's a slightly tangent (but still germane) issue about font munging for many "old time" FMers who use older Type1 PS fonts (e.g. Helvetica) and who also happen to have upgraded to Office 2010.
Office apps, especially Outlook and Word, crash when these PS fonts are installed. The event log msg involves "usp10.dll" which is the Uniscribe component that MS uses to render fonts. FM doesn't use Uniscribe, but application crashes involving fonts would always seem to put FM at greater risk, even if only from gobbling RAM or whacking the font cache and thus requiring reboot.
MS finally released a hotfix for this issue, which from my testing seems to have solved the problem.

  • Are there any Canon all-in-one printers compatible with Yosemite v.10.10 and Windows 7?

My current Canon Pixma MX850 printer just died. I'm looking for an All-in-One, preferably Canon, printer that is compatible with Yosemite version 10.10 and Windows 7. I have spent this weekend researching with no matches.  They all cover v.10.9 but nothing higher. I'm desperate for a replacement for our business. I was just about to order the Canon Pixma MX922 when I caught the specs.
    I'm needing the following functions:
ADF with 2 sided ADF scanning/printing
    Ethernet
    Wi-Fi certificate
    Wireless
    Auto 2 sided printing
AirPrint and (google) iCloud print would be an add-on but not necessary.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The MX922 (known as the MX926 in Australia) is supported by 10.10 and Windows 7. Whatever site you were looking at may not have updated their details. Here is a link from the Canon Australia web site showing the drivers and applications for this model for 10.10.

  • Is PS Elements 12.0 compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail??

Is the Organize/eMail part of Elements 12.0 compatible with my Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail?  I have never been able to make it work with my Elements 9.0 after many hours of trying.  The problem is acknowledged by Adobe and a solution offered but the solution does not work in any of my three Windows 7 computers.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Brian, Thank you for responding.  I actually have two different questions on the same topic so I'll discuss them one at a time.
    1.  When I purchased a new Windows 7 computer several years ago I also purchased PSE 9.0 because I had been told my old PSE 4.0 would not work with W7.  I didn't get around to installing it until last fall--PSE 4.0 was working fine on the XP machine and I didn't have the time.  PSE 9.0 installed fine but I could not email a  photo from the Organizer.  I recently got interested in fixing the problem which has turned out to be more difficult than I could imagine.  I found a lot of evidence on the web that to make it work with W7/Windows Live Mail  you needed to make some patches in the registry.  I tried to follow the Adobe instruction a number of times but when I got down to: " 4. On your desktop, double-click SetDefaultEmailClient.reg. If prompted, click Continue. Click Yes on the Registry Editor confirmation prompt." it would not work.   Double clicking would bring up the browser with some register-like statements:  [Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open\command] @="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Windows Live\\Mail\\wlmail.exe /mailurl:%1" ].  I did not get a "Continue" to click on or a "Yes on the Registry Editor confirmation prompt".   I got nothing to take action on that might cause the registry to be updated with the specified patches.  I'm no expert on modifying the registry and this is beyond my understanding.  It just didn't do what it implied it would and I'm lost.  I've tried in on my WLM 2011 computer and on my brand new W7 notebook computer with WLM 2012.  I tried it using my normal browser, Firefox, and using Internet Explorer.
PSE 9.0 does indeed show Windows Live Mail as an option under Edit/Preferences/Sharing and I have selected it.  When I try to share a photo via email all seems to go normally to the end when I get the message:  "Elements Organizer could not finish creating your E-mail message."  And, that is really not very helpful.  When I Google on that "Elements Organizer could not finish creating your E-mail message" I find that I'm far from being the only one with this problem and people with PSE 8.0, PSE 10.0 and PSE 11.0 have reported the problem.  I've found no way to communicate with Adobe and even their main support number, 800-883-6687, comes on with a message "this number is temporarily unavailable"!! I've called over 50 times over several days. That seems quite unusual.  It seems like selling a software product that is incompatible with one of the most popular Microsoft operating systems and email clients would not be a good thing.   Sorry for all the words but I wanted to define the situation as well as I can.
    2.  Given all of the time I've I spent without solving the problem it seemed tossing my PSE 9.0 and switching to PSE 12.0 might have been a smart move many months ago.  And, I'm considering it now.  That is why I really would like to get some assurance from Adobe that the problem is fixed and that I will have no problems with PSE 12.0, at least with emailing from the Organizer.  The news that it is working for you is encouraging and I hope others will report on the luck they have had.  You say it works better with WLM 2012 than with WLM 2011 but I don't know what that means.  It seems that the minimum requirement is that any time you want to send a photo via email, it works!
If anyone knows how you can contact Adobe, by phone or email, please let me know.
    Thank you very much, Brian.
    Jim
