FrameMaker 8.0 to HTML
Could you please tell me whether WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition 8.0 is included in FrameMaker 8.0 or not? Some advertisements on web sites say YES!
No, it wasn't, but it should be a moot point anyway because FM 9 is the shipping version. Some retailers probably have 8 still in stock, but 9 seems superior.
In either case, built-in filters work for basic HTML, and higher end projects can go through RoboHelp or MIF2Go, a third-party product.

[Ann] HTML and CHM version of FrameMaker 12 Javascript Reference
Just dropping by (I'm not an FM user) to announce that I have made a conveniently browseable version of the Javascript Reference for FM 12, in the formats HTML (lots of files) and CHM (single file in Windows Help format; non-Windows users will need a CHM viewer such as iCHM for Mac). Thanks go to Rick Quatro (http://frameautomation.com) for his support.
Downloads are available at Indesign JavaScript Help -- scroll down to "New: FrameMaker 12", and the HTML files can also be browsed online at Adobe FrameMaker-12 Object Model JS: Table of Contents (with additional thanks to John Hawkinson for the generous donation of bandwidth).Thank you my brother!

Removing anchors from FrameMaker HTML conversion
After converting a FrameMaker document into an HTML site, I'm left with an anchor (marker) for nearly every single element on every HTML page: paragraph, list, heading, etc. Besides the code bloat, it makes viewing and working with pages in GoLive difficult.
Is there a way to remove all these anchors in bulk from the HTML? Search-and-replace doesn't work in the usual sense, because every anchor has a unique numerical value. Some sort of script? Third-party tool? Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to Save FM source files as HTML
Hi,

Can someone help me by letting me know the reson and the solution for this error.

ManishHi Mat,
SharePoint 2010 has "Connect to Office" command which could add a library shortcut icon under Favorit folder per the following article, then we can new document from local and save to sharepoint shortcut folder.
Read more information about "Connect to Office" from article below.
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Connect-to-Office-072b32a8-83c0-492e-ba29-50d7f67001ba?CorrelationId=abd2dd53-0412-44fd-b87d-e194aba1ff61&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
SharePoint 2013 introduces OneDrive folder, which works different from SharePoint 2010. SharePoint folder shortcut is still exist but it is under folder C:\Users\Administrator.CONTOSO\SharePoint Sites, and it doesn't show in
Favorite folder, if we want to show SharePoint library shortcut in "Save As" dialog left hand, currently per my knowledge we could only manually create a folder shortcut and add to Favorite folder for more convenient.
Another similar post I have done which may help you understand this function.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to import HTML documents into inDesign and retain the same formatting from the CSS and also save the existing image tags. I know that you can export HTML but I haven't found a way to import it. If not, does anyone know of a good plugin somewhere that allows for this? I have been looking but have yet to find anything worthwhile.
Thanks!I know pasting the information in could work, but its more or less a time consuming way with what I am trying to do. I am currently trying to take our books written in Adobe Framemaker, and get them converted to ePUB format for an ipad. The only problem I am running into is that initial conversion that I have to do to get the books from Framemaker to InDesign. The problem is the only InDesign supported formats from Framemaker are .pdf and .html. HTML seems to be the lesser of two evils but it tends to ruin a slight bit of the formatting (not alot, but enough to notice), while .pdf imports into InDesign as a single image per page, therefore it loses all my links. Replacing the links isn't that big of a deal I guess but when ure working with hundreds of pages and hundreds of books, It could be a lengthy process. I am just trying to find the lesser of the two evils for the conversions.

UNIX-side plug-ins (Frame7, 8)
Hi all;
Does anyone know where I can find documentation on using the apliclients file to install a UNIX-side plug-in (normal-mode Frame8). I can do 1 of two things inside apliclients:
Make the file identical for another plug-in and ours, but ours won't install ("Cannot initialize API client [OurPlugin].")
Eliminate the error message by declaring that our plug-in is an import filter. But alas, I can't get plug-in's menu to install correctly on the menu bar.
The plug-in is not an import filter. Instead, the plug-in maps XML to Frame tags inside a text inset (see http://www.design-reuse.com/articles/17309/ip-xact-adobe-framemaker-register-specification -system.html for something similar). Double-click the inset and Frame calls a separate XML editor.
But setting this up as an import filter isn't working, so I'm trying to determine what options are available inside the apiclients file. Getting any information at all on the apiclients file would also be helpful and yes, I've looked online and through the UNIX side help files.
The only other idea that comes to mind - for now - is to modify the plug-in so that it doesn't try to install a menu on the menu bar then roll-our-own menu to call functions from the plug-in. Tho I'm not sure if that would work either.
BTW, this post is similar to post #315439, but that referred to PC Frame8 and now we're back UNIX side. Michael, re 315439 I like your idea of using a table, but we need to get the inset read-only. Thanks!
Any ideas will be much appreciated!

QUALCOMM - standard disclaimers apply
Only 149,999,948 more years of Ruling The Earth to goIt is disappointing indeed, and perhaps a bit more explanation is required:
"Rosetta Mode" means that your Intel-based Mac is executing PowerPC-code instead of native Intel code. This requires that the processor has to look up every single instruction, translate it, and only then can execute it. This leads to significant performance loss. The mere fact that Apple has managed to get even somewhat (perhaps borderline) acceptable performance out of Rosetta is a testament to the ability of their engineers.
Our (cf/x) plug-ins currently are PPC-based only. Because of the nature of plug-ins (they are code that is literally plugged into the running code of the hosting application), a plug-in must always be written for the same processor as the host. iMovie can't simply cick into Rosetta and pop out of it randomly. Therefore you must run iMovie in Rosetta to run PPC-based plug-ins, or run it natively, but with non-native plug-ins disabled.
Which leaves the question why we don't have native plug-ins. The answer is that we dont have them yet as there were significant compiler issues. 'Were', as in 'past tense'. A few weeks ago we had a breakthrough, and are now busily upgrading and porting the PPC code to Universal. Progress is slow, as we need not only to bring the code to Universal, but also have to integrate and test lots of new technology. On two architectures simultaneously. But we are quite sure we'll get there eventually. As always, though, I recommend you do not base any decisions on what I or other people assert, but simply wait and see what gets delivered.
Cheers,
-ch

Upgrade to FM9? I need to filter attributes.
Hi all,
I'm currently using FM7.2 with the ABCM plugin and Framescript 4.1. This way we have one source file and filter for different products (Framescript automates the filtering... less important). I thought I saw somewhere that FM9 natively supports conditional text and filtering, but perhaps it is only conditional text. In these forums I heard someone mention that they use FM8 with ABCM.
Is it worth it to upgrade to FM8 from 7.2?
Does FM9 support what I want to do or not?
Thanks!!Hi,
Sourcerer did become ABCM, although via a very windy path that is not worth the time to explain. Then, when the XPath side was added, it became AXCM because Attribute-Based Condition Management no longer sufficiently described its functionality.
For your upgrade question, I think the best reason to upgrade is that you are around 5 or 6 years out-of-date, which is a long time for software. If you plan to continue using FrameMaker, you will be forced to upgrade eventually, unless you also plan to use your current operating system forever as well. The longer you wait, the better the likelihood that the conversion of your old files could encounter a few blips.
I think your best bet is to get a hold of the release notes for the two versions and check out the new features yourself. It is too much for me to repeat here. Commonly, I think you'll hear that people like the Unicode support, built-in DITA, the multiple undo/redo, revision tracking, and the new FM9 interface goodies. There is lots more, though... a Google search will bring up plenty of info. Here's one link for FM8:

Poor graphic quality on FM import
I've imported a FrameMaker file into RoboHelp HTML and the
graphics quality is terrible on many images; especially images that
have text anchored with it (the text display as xxx’s). These
images are unreadable, other are OK. I've used RoboHelp for
FrameMaker for years and love the quality of the conversion.
However, The Tech Comm Suite seems to have taken a step back in the
image conversion area. Any help you can provide is greatly
appreciated.Hi,
First let me say that I encountered this problem back in Feb
2008 and mentioned it here.
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=680&threadid=1339003
At that time, I thought it was an artifact of using tiff
files and CHM compression - too many other things were wrong with
that acquired project for me to be certain that RoboHelp had a
problem. Using PNG seemed to cure the problem.
Several months later and a couple of new projects and I'm
fairly certain that Robohelp is munging the graphics when it
imports FM8 books.
The images in my books (almost a hundred screenshots in one
300-page volume and about 100 in another 200-page volume) are all
imported by reference.
The application is a Web-based Java app with way too much
text in small fonts. I generate each screenshot at a high 300ppi
resolution and carefully crop/size them for the 7x9 page format
using Photoshop. I'm under no illusions here - downsizing bitmap
Web screenshots to fit on a printed page is going to cause loss of
resolution. However, I get crisp hi-res images in the Frame-to-PDF
output and the source images are sized so that they should work
well for both print and Webhelp output.
Now, when I first encounterd this problem in February,
converting all the images to PNG seemed to work well for CHM
output. It appears that PNG is not well supported in Webhelp, so
the images are all converted to JPEG at max qualiity, which also
adds many MB to the size of a PDF. This is documented in the RH
help at:
Home > Images and multimedia > Use images in topics
Note: If you are generating WebHelp Pro or WebHelp output,
use .GIF or .JPG image files.
So I believe that I am following all the RH import
requirements. However, when I run the FM-to-RH import, it's clear
that the images in the help folders have been resized by the import
process. -
Question about Overprint Setting
Here is the link to Adobe's help topic on the subject:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FrameMaker/8.0/help.html?content=Chap10-Color_10.html
Look at the graphic above the caption that reads, "You can also use overprinting to combine two colors for special effects."
That is the effect I am trying to get. How?
I placed one object on top of the other.
In Object Properties, I selected Overprint for both graphics. Nothing happened.
In Photoshop, I think this is called a Screen or Multiply blend mode. But it's accomplished with layers, which FrameMaker doesn't have.
Thanks!

The images I am working with are line art. That is, they are native FrameMaker drawings with fills applied. -
Hi everyone, we're trying to set up the CMS Connection Manager to connect to Documentum using the content server DFS. It's either hanging or we're getting a couple different types of errors, depending on the port number we use:
1) The Request channel timed out
2) Could not connect... TCP error code 10061... No connection... because the target machine actively refused it
3) An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for Emc.Documentum/FS/ConfigObject...An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
Should we be entering the docbroker server and port number or the JMS server and port number?
Has anyone got the connection from Frame 10 to Documentum up and running?Dave,
This blog post should most definitely help you resolve your CMS connection problems.
http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2011/04/configuration-settings-for-framemaker-cms-integrat ion.html
Two points to note here are that FrameMaker custom object types on the content server are a pre-requisite. You might use the DocumentumProject.dar or the FmDctmSetup.exe to deploy these custom object types. FrameMaker's Documentum integration is built over DFS (Documentum Foundation Services 6.5) so the the port number to use is the DFS port (by default it is 9080).
Let us know if you still face issues in making a successfull connection to Documentum CMS.

Hi All,
Hope you are well. Many of you have asked me about ExtendScript capability in FM10. With Extendscript, one can easily automate time-consuming and repetitive tasks and this tool comes standard as part of FrameMaker10. And the best part about this is that extendscript lets you create scripts which can communicate with several Adobe products and not just FrameMaker. Here are some additional resources for you to look at.

Hi, is anybody having trouble getting the TOC to behave after
importing a Framemaker Book file? I keep getting a long, long list
of topics and can't find a way to marshal them into books and
sub-books so that the Help looks half-way professional and is easy
to use. I think I see a way to do it manually but that's not ideal.
The old Robohelp for Framemaker seemed to handle this okay.
Thanks.Hi, thanks
I'm aware of this and it worked fine in Robohelp for
Framemaker but version 7 HTML isn't producing acceptable TOCs or
Indexes from my FM TOC and IX files. Every topic, regardless of
hierarchy or heading or font size, weight, etc. is just placed in a
long flat list. I don't know if it's the styles I'm using in my
(admittedly quite complex) book templates or whether I need to do
some 'mapping' between Frame and Robohelp styles (this part of the
process in the new version confuses me and the dialogues/Help
aren't very 'helpful' and I seem to end up abolishing the styles
from the book, which I want to retain, and keeping only the
Robohelp styles, which I don't). I'm trying a very small document
as a test case now but not having much more luck. As for the
Index...that's too painful to go into at the moment.

How to create FrameMaker glossary entries which convert properly to RoboHelp HTML 8?
I have been having a challenging time creating FrameMaker 9 glossary
entries which convert properly into RoboHelp HTML 8. Here is the process I'm doing, and perhaps someone call tell me what I'm doing wrong.
1.) In the FrameMaker document, I highlight a word or phrase which serves as the "glossary term" to be defined.
2.) I open the Marker dialog box, select the Glossary option, then enter the "glossary definition" for the highlighted "glossary term." I commit the entry.
3.) In the FrameMaker Book file, I create a new "Index of Markers" (IOM) of "Glossary" type. Upon generation of the IOM, my FrameMaker output is much like a standard index: There are letter delimiters ("A," "B," C," etc.), and under each is the "glossary definition," then a page number where the "glossary term" is.
4.) Now I go to RoboHelp HTML 8 and update the document there. The glossary displays such that the "glossary term" is the entire paragraph in which the marker had been placed in the FrameMaker source file. The "glossary definition" is displayed properly (the text I placed into the Marker dialog box.
So, how am I to create auto-generating glossaries? This implies that I need to create a manual glossary whereby the "glossary term" is in a paragraph by itself (much like a printed glossary would look). Furthermore, I would need to add this manual glossary as a file in the FrameMaker Book file for RoboHelp 8 to detect and pull the entries.
Surely this isn't as how it was designed. I suspect I'm doing something wrong in how I create glossary entries or create the file in the FrameMaker Book file.
Could someone offer some assistance?
Thank you very much in advance!
Most sincerely,
Sammy SpencerIt's because you're doing your markers backwards. The text inside your Glossary marker should be the term. The paragraph your marker is inside is the definition.
I should say, rather, that Robohelp does it backwards, because when I think of glossary terms and definitions, I think there should be a way to highlight a word and provide the definition in the hidden marker, not hide the term inside the marker.
I am still figuring out how to make a glossary in my Framemaker file that will work with my Robohelp file, and not have Robohelp generate a separate content file for the glossary file. I think I'll get it, though. Eventually. -
FrameMaker 11 on "Start New, Linked Web Page" in HTML setup
FrameMaker 11 doesn't let me use certain paragraph tags to save certain FM files into separate HTML files. After I checked the box "Start New, Linked Web Page", that item has a Y in the Reference Pages for new web page, but it was being switched back to N during the process of Save As HTML, right in front me. It worked for some other Paragraph Tags, however. Would someone please tell what I missed? Thanks!!
That's ok. I had the work-around by using the paragraph tag that worked,
so it's working now, although I'm still puzzled about the other tag.
Thank you anyway!
