Framemaker 8.0p277 will not print graphic to PDF

It has been some time since I have worked in FrameMaker and I am having difficulty this time around creating a pdf from a FrameMaker file where I have inserted an ai graphic into a FrameMaker document. Previously, the document printed but when I updated it, it would no longer bring the graphic into the resulting pdf.
I am using Illustrator CS3 to edit the ai file. I have also tried to use a pdf version of the ai file but to no avail.
Looking for help. To do a quick fix, it was necessary to take the resulting pdf and edit it in Illustrator to insert the graphic. A real pain when it will be necessary to do about twenty of these documents.
Thanks,

FWIW, FM tries to read an .ai file as a PDF, but it's not exactly the same as a PDF - there's a lot of additional info stored that could through FM for a loop. It stores the PDF internally and then upon output uses a filter to create an eps format into the output stream (so you're asking FM to do additional work that using an .eps file in the first place would avoid).
There is a setting in the maker.ini (omitted in the default version of FM8 & 9) called EPSLevelForPlacedPDF that specifies the postscript level to use. When missing, IIRC, FM defaults to using an archaic Level 1 postscript model, which may not handle (or understand) many things in a AI/PDF file.

  • Will not print anything but Pdf files!

If I try to print anything at all other than a PDF file from Adobe only(other readers will not even work) very little of the page prints if anything at all. For example, I was trying to print a shipping label off of the website, and the only thing that would print was the barcode. Nothing else. I actually had to convert it to a pdf file and open it with Adobe, and then it printed perfectly. I have tried reinstalling, restarting, using the HP support doctor, which says absolutely nothing is wrong with my printer. I am at a loss to why it will only print pdf files from Adobe. Can anyone please help me?! I forgot to mention it worked perfectly about a month ago. We don't print a whole lot and didn't notice it was messed up until just a few days ago.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that when printing from your Windows 8.1 computer to your HP Deskjet 1512 All-in-One Printer, nothing is printing, except Adobe PDF files. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, you indicate in your post that you had tried to print a shipping label from a website, and only the barcode prints. However, if you open the file up and print it from Adobe it appears to print fine. This leads me to believe that the actual issue that is occuring is a print system issue with the black cartridge. I know it may come as a surprise to hear that as Adobe is printing fine. However, when you print from certain programs on your computer the file is sent to the printer as an 'image' file. If your printer 'thinks' it is printing an image it will use a mixture of colour ink and black to print the black document. Therefore, what you may actually be seeing when you print from Adobe is colour ink mixed. To start troubleshooting I am going to have you print a Quality Diagnostics Report from your printer and this will help us to isolate this printing issue. Please follow the steps below.  How to Print a Quality Report: Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.Press and hold the Power button. While holding down the Power button, press and hold the Cancel button. Hold them both down for 2 or 3 seconds. The test page prints. (1) Printed with the tri-colour cartridge(2) Printed with the black cartridge  If this Report prints perfectly: Then the printing issue that you're experiencing is not being caused by your products print system. Rather, there may be a driver conflict occuring between your Windows computer and your printer. Please do not proceed with troubleshooting at this time.  If this Report prints with missing black or other quality issues: Then the printing issue that you're experiencing is being caused by your products print system. To resolve this hardware issue can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please choose the Windows 8 dropdown. Next, follow the steps under Solution one, Solution five, Solution six, and Solution seven. This includes any sub steps under the listed Solutions to complete. Once troubleshooting has been completed please print another Quality Diagnostics Report to confirm if the issue has been resolved. Please respond to this post with the result of printing the Quality Diagnostics Report. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • 2 weeks ago, Firefox changed. It will not print graphics in a web page or show them in print preview. It also does not provide the ability to select options in "print forms". they are now grayed out.

    I am using www.investools.com
It prints the graphics in the normal page fine
but when I switch to prophetcharts, which loads javascript, the graphs do not display or print.
The text on the left side of the display show but graphs do not, even when I reduce printing size to 30%.
I am using an HP 8500 Pro Officejet.
Everything works in IE fine (but I don't want to use IE).

Hi ArielAce , thanks for getting back to me!

  • Is it possible to make an object/colour that will not print but still be visible on screen once saved as a PDF?

I want to show stuff in a PDF that will automatically not 'print' from Illustrator.
For example create a colour to make shapes and text that you can read from the saved PDF but will not print once the PDF is printed out
    Thanks

from illustrator you could put stuff on a template layer (check 'Template' in layer options), but then it would only be visible on the illustrator side; opened in Acrobat the layer would be invisible.
you could do it from Acrobat Pro though. have 'Create Acrobat layers from top-level layers' checked in the PDF save options, then open in Acrobat and look in the layer properties (this is from Acrobat Pro 9):

  • Acrobat Pro 8 will not print some graphics, any ideas?

I am printing from Word 2007 to an Acrobat Pro 8 PDF.   When I do so, some of the graphics will not show up.   They seem to be in the document as when I highlight them, they show they are blocked and I can actually copy the stuff by highlighting it and copying, but it will not print or display.
This seems to be a new problem, as it worked fine, then I am not sure what trigered it, but now it will not print all the graphics.   The graphics are just JPGs
Note the document looks good on the screen, but when I create a PDF or print the PDF, it will not print.
I also see this a lot when I use my PrintShop Mail program, which uses Acrobat to genterate it files.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Geoff

Since Acrobat is not an Apple product, you would probably be better off posting your question on Adobe's own forums as they would be geared more toward the issue than an Apple forum:

  • HP C6150 All-In-One Will Not Print Black Text But Does Partial Test Print

Hi.  Thanks in advance for any help anyone can proffer.
I've read through the forum and I think there are some similar issues, but none exactly the same as ours.
This HP C6150 does print pictures, but suddenly stopped printing black text.
HOWEVER, the test prints will print in black with the Windows Logo, but will not print any associated text.
Odd.  It just suddenly stopped printing.
    Variables:
C6150 All in One - No other problems for two years.
Using refilled ink cartridges from outside source. (not my decision)
Ink is full.  No other changes made in last three days.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
Uninstalled and then re-installed software in entirety.
Put in 'new' (refilled) cartridge for black and magenta.
Tried (not sure if successful) soft reset.
Tried cleaning the print cartridge with 'Q-Tip' and distilled water.
Have not yet spent money on new OEM print cartridges.  That is next step unless other suggestions merit.
    Possibilities:
It may be the refilled cartridges, but they've worked so well in the past.
The cartridge prior to the recent replacement was working fine and was not yet out of ink.
The print head might be damaged.  But this should/would affect all black printing and this is not the case.
Were the driver corrupt, the reinstall should have fixed it ... you'd think.
So, we're looking for some suggestions prior to going out and getting a new printer.
Thanks again, in advance, for constructive non-judgmental suggestions.
    MackNC

The likely cause is the black ink is not printing at all.  When printing graphics (like the Windows Test Page) black is made from mixing the color ink.  I would suggest printing an internal diagnostic test page as shown in this page.  Does the black block print?  If not then clean the printheads as described here.

  • Acrobat reader will not print what is showing on the screen

I created a business card in a graphic design program,  exported it as a PDF file. When I open the pdf file in acrobat, it will display correctly on the screen, but will not print correctly.
When I click on the print icon, a box opens and shows a small preview of what is supposed to print. What shows in the small preview box is correct, but when it prints, it drops off text.
When I go back to the program that created the card, it will print correctly from that program.  When I open the pdf file in Photoshop, it will print correctly in Photoshop.  It just drops off text in Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader when printing.

This sounds very similar to the issue that I am having.
acrobat pro printing correctly ,same file with adobe reader printing grey instead of black.
Unfortunately I have not yet gotten any feedback, and your post being over 45 days without a response doesn't bode well for my issue either.
    Sorry I can't help you.

  • Times New Roman font will not print on HP Officejet Pro 8610

My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 will not print documents, spreadsheets, or printer test pages containing Times New Roman font (of any size).  It does not put a job in the print queue.  In Excel, I receive the "Generic_2_Q294552"  error message. My setup:  An HP Pavilion Elite computer NY809AV-ABA e9119t; running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1; HP Laserjet 5L, HP PCS 1310, and HP D4360 all print the font just fine. My new printer:  HP Officejet Pro 8610, firmware revision FDP1CN1502AR, connected via USB cable.  [Also connected via ethernet cable to cable modem.] What I have done so far to troubleshoot the last 3 days:  Reinstalled the printer (3 times), the most recent today with an installer issued today; rebooted the printer; rebooted the computer after each significant change; updated the firmware in the printer; tried two different USB cables; tried printing the fonts in Microsoft Word 7, Microsoft Excel 7, and directly from the font file; reinstalled the Times New Roman fonts from backup; visited the forums and tried all of the solutions I could for any similar problem; tried the winprint, hpzppw71, and hpzpplhn print processors with both RAW and NT EMF 1.008 data types; found and repaired all problems I could find with any hardware and software, as well as updating all software to the latest version.

Thanks for trying to help.  I am happy to report my experiments and results. Microsoft Word:I open a blank document.  Type something in.  Select the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to some fonts (those listed on my DOES print) the document shows up in the print queue and prints.  When I change to the other fonts (those listed as DOES NOT print) nothing happens.  It just sits there.  No messages.  No crash.  Nothing in the print queue.  I can walk away for hours (as I have done) and come back and nothing has happened.  When I change back to a DOES print font it prints.  Change it back to a DOES NOT print font and it doesn't.  Repeatable.  Consistent.  No configuration changes or installs have changed it. Microsoft Excel:I open a black spreadsheet.  Type something in.  Highlight the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to a DOES print font it prints.  When I change to a DOES NOT print font I get this: "Microsoft Office Excel    Your file could not be printed due to an error on HP Officejet Pro 861   on 0.  There are several possible reasons:. If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver.. There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer. For more information about troubleshooting printing problems, chick Help.   Show Help >>" when I click the Show Help >> button I get: "This error can be caused by:
General problems: The printer may be unavailable, the network may be down, the communication port to the printer may be corrupt or unavailable, a hardware error at the computer may have occurred (out of paper, paper jam, out of ink, out of toner, etc), and a language setting may need to be reset from the Regional Options control panel.
Local problems: There are several reasons for a local printer (a printer that is attached directly to your computer) to fail:
Check to make sure the printer has paper, ink, and/or toner and check the cables.
If the printer appears to be functional and a printer test by the printer itself indicates the printer is working properly, then check the cables, printer port from the computer, and configuration of the printer at the computer.
Occasionally, an application can develop a conflict with the printer driver and cause a memory leak which corrupts the printer port. If all else fails, restart the computer, recycle the power to the printer, and try printing again.
Occasionally it is even necessary to delete the printer driver and reinstall the latest version of the printer driver.
Network problems: There are various reasons for a network printer to be inaccessible: the name may have changed, it may be out of paper, out of ink, out of toner, down for maintenance, the network could be down, or a printer job previous to yours has stalled due to incorrect settings on the user's computer who last submitted a print job, or even your printer driver cannot communicate correctly with the printer. Network related printer failures are usually best handled by your local technical support.
Memory problemsn occasion, large print jobs with complex graphics or consisting of several hundred pages, which can consume large quantities of memory on the printer, may cause a problem (especially if there was an over run of memory at the printer). You may want to try reducing the amount of complex graphics in your print job, or break the print job up into smaller segments and see if that corrects your problem. It is not uncommon for a very complex graphic to have a defect or error which prevents it from printing on any printer. It may be necessary to load new or revised graphic converters or drivers in order to alleviate a problem of this type.
For more information about fixing problems related to printing, see Microsoft Windows Help and Support. (Click the Start button, and then click Help and Support.)" Excel keeps right on going.  Doesn't crash.  Just pops up the gray dialog box.  Behind the box popped up is another box (that goes away then the dialog box is closed) saying:  "Now printing page 1 of 1'Book1' on theHP Officejet Pro 861     on 0" The format of these messages does seem strange now that I look at it so carefully while trying to type EXACTLY what I see.   I think I will try to shorten the name of the printer. Once again, Respectfully submitted for analysis, review, suggestions, and criticism. Tom

  • HP Laserjet 4100 on network will not print

Since I’ve installed Snow Leopard, I have not been able to print with my HP Laserjet 4100.
My set-up: new 24” iMac, many hard drives and more. Two devices: HP Color Laserjet 5550 and HP Officejet J5750 are connected to the iMac through a USB Hub. Although initially scanning did not work with the J5750, I was able to make that work once additional drivers were downloaded from HP. Both work fine.
I also have an older HP Laserjet 4100 which has been my steady workhorse for years. It only has Ethernet and serial port outlets. It is connected to an AT&T 2-Wired Ethernet Hub/DSL Modem (model 2701HG-B) that is connected to the iMac.
I’ve contacted HP and Apple about this problem. None of the three people I worked with at Apple could help and the HP representative was unsure if they could help but that it would cost me $40 to find out. According to HP website, since Apple Talk no longer exists, we are required to input the IP for the device. For the 4100, the IP address is 10.0.1.100. I tried this two ways: in the “Add Printer” window under “IP,” inputted as the IPP, and inputted as the HP Jetdirect Socket (as per the HP instructions). When this is done, the printer shows up when you give a print command. However, it does not show up in the “Add Printer” window under “default” or anywhere else.
Status: If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable directly to the back of the iMac, the “Supply” level indicates the true level of toner in the 4100. However, it will not print. If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable to the Ethernet hub, the supply level does not show nor can I print.
    Any suggestions?

I am struggling with the same problem. I have two HP 4100dtn printers on ethernet. Each has a manually assigned IP address. I can set up the printer(s) just fine in the Print & Fax Preference and Snow Leopard finds the printer just fine when I enter the IP address and chooses the correct HP Driver.
When I try to print, my print job appears in the queue as expected, than an error appears that something about a "bad command". Sorry, I'm home right now and don't have direct access to the printer so I can't give you the precise language of the message, but the gist of the message is that the system tried to connect to the printer to send the print data but the printer does not know how to respond to the command that was sent.
It's as if the firmware in the 4100 just doesn't have something in it's lexicon that Snow Leopard needs. The HP web site is no help. One page I found says the printer is supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01664444&jumpid=regR1002USEN ) and another page I found says that it is not supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01879014&jumpid=regR1002USEN). The HP on line chat won't let me log in and hold a chat with HP unless I know the Serial Number of the printer, which I don't have here at home.
    More to follow tomorrow.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well, another week has gone by without a solution.
    Again, here is the problem:
I have a 24" iMac connected to a USB hub and an AT&T 2-Wire DSL/ethernet hub. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and now the update 10.6.2, the two printers on the USB hub work fine but the HP Laserjet 4100dtn does not print. This old printer has only ethernet or serial ports. I've downloaded and installed the HP driver updates from Apple and HP to no avail. According to HP, I must add the 4100 manually using its IP. I've followed the instructions while adding a printer to select IP- HP Jetdirect - Socket. The address of the printer is 10.0.1.100. When I type this in, the window says that this is a valid and complete address. It searches and then says the "Print Using:" is a Generic PostScript Printer. The driver for this printer, I believe, should be "HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107" Regardless, when I click Add the window "Determining Installable Options" shows "Status: Connecting to printer..." It never establishes a connection.
The 2-Wire DSL/Ethernet Hub/Modem, has an IP of 192.1687.1.66, Submask 255.255.255.0 and Router (DNS) 192.168.1.254.
If I plug the ethernet cable directly from the printer to the iMac, the supply level shows correctly but will not print. If I plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the 2-Wire and then to the iMac, it neither shows supply level nor prints.
Any suggestion as to how to fix this problem? (I've been on the phone with 3 different Apple respresentatives and 1 HP representative with no success.)

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:
