Framemaker to .pdf part of image missing

Hello
I am using FM 10, Windows XP, Acrobat Pro X
I have converted a book and two images (from about 100) have the bottom 1/8th cut off.
The following may or may not be useful information:
The image is a .png.
The image has callouts drawn in in Framemaker which print fine.
I have replaced the drawing.
The drawing has been rotated 90 degrees.
The same problem occurs using FoxIt.
The same portion of the image is cut off if I move the image around.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I've reimported the image and pdf'd it again and it prints fine.  The problem occurs when I rotate the image 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Hmm
MORE EDIT: If I use the 'Rotate Counterclockwise' button, it crops a little bit each time it rotates.
Hmm.

You put a lot of time in to this place, mate, Adobe should be paying you.
I'm just returning the favor. I've picked up several crucial tips here this year. Plus, you really discover if you know something when you try to teach it.
Our company designs lifting tools.  The design boys create them and I make a operation/test/assembly manual for them.
So are you working with wireframe hidden lines removed, or 3D solid renderings?
If wireframe, you would ideally want the image to remain vector all the way into the PDF, if the vector count is reasonable.
... png, jpeg, gif, bmp, tiff, emf, exif and wmf.
I don't know EXIF (except as a metadata format). Of the remainder, only WMF has a prayer of delivering vector, and I'm not sure how well Frame supports that mode.
No eps unfortunately.  Would you recommend using another format?
Autodesk can surely export DWG or DXF, but they are hazardous to your color catalog. Can Autodesk export vector PDF?
You will need to experiment with stroke weights, depending on your print path and any expected PDF viewing size. I'd suggest starting with 0.2 points (as delivered in the final PDF).
I find Illustrator really useful here. It can open DWGs, DXFs, and the EPSIs our older CAD software emits, and easily set stroke weights for final scale. It can also "simplify" complex drawings to some extent. When the PDF of a vector image gets over 250KB, we take steps (usually flattening it to 600 dpi raster). But we like to publish vector when we can.

  • Part of logo missing when exporting to PDF

    I'm running ID CS6 and Acrobat Pro X.
    When I export a document as a PRINT or INTERACTIVE pdf, part of my logo goes missing. The funny thing is that our design team are all running the same programs and 3 of our members can view the logo completely, the other 4 see half of the logo missing, I can see the logo just fine.
    • The logo mark is visible, but the typography that is part of the logo is missing?! And it's a single grouped object in Illustrator.
    • We've compared the settings on our teams' programs and on my ID program as well, and nothing seems be remotely related to the issue.
    • Finder on Mac shows mixed visibility in file preview on different computers. Some show, some don't.
    • In the past, I've been able to place vector objects from Illustrator into Indesign completely fine. I prefer vector over image because it allows me scaling flexibility.
    • I have not changed any settings on my program between the time I was able and not able to do this. I don't understand why different people are getting different results on their screens. And in a couple of occasions, it has happened to one of our team members and it fixed itself mysteriously.
    I would like to provide screen shots, but it is a private design.
    One key note to realize is that the logo is completely outlined and grouped as a single object. I then save the logo into the same folder as the ID file (tried both, .EPS and .AI) and placed it (CMD+D) into InDesign. Both files are CMYK files.
    I then make my PDF by hitting (CMD+E) to export, choose PDF Print. On the PDF settings, I choose [High Quality Print], compatible with Acrobat 5 and beyond, uncheck optimize for web, include bleeds, no color conversion.
    I've had issues in the past where hidden layers in an .AI are still visible in the PDF. The .AI is imported into InDesign then exported as PDF... The hidden layers from the .AI preview in Finder, but then vanish when opening the PDF...so buggy.
    Make any sense?!...

    Similar to Mikey's response… If the logo has a spot color in it and it overlaps any raster image (or vice versa), then the overlapping part will appear white if "Overprint Preview" is turned off in Acrobat. This is really a bug. One possible fix is to export the PDF as an PDF/X-4:2010 in the "Standard" drop down—this preserves all transparency layering without flattening.
    This issue causes frequent headaches and confusion in my workplace, especially since a lot of people want/need to hold on to the PDF/X-1a standard, which flattens the artwork.

  • Loss of Illustration (.AI) quality when converting FrameMaker to PDF

    Hello -
    We're running into some unpredictable problems when converting a FrameMaker file to PDF. Our images are created in Illustrator (CC), and inserted into FrameMaker (12) as a linked file. In Frame, the illustrations look perfectly fine.
    On export to PDF (Acrobat XI), whether "Save as PDF", "Print" to postscript, or "Print" directly to PDF, some illustrations show up "fuzzy" on the screen. It's not the entire graphic, but seemingly random sections of the illustrations that are pixelated. The illustrations are layered, vector, non-outlined .AI files.
    Adobe PDF settings (in Distiller XI) are optimized for online viewing.
    The reason I'm asking in the Acrobat forum is because if a problematic file is opened in Illustrator, the section that is pixelated in the PDF don't exist as overlays or layers in the AI file. When I say 'don't exist', I mean that if you select each and every layer individually, selections are never the entire pixelated area.
    Windows 7
    Adobe Illustrator CC
    Adobe FrameMaker 12
    Acrobat Distiller XI
    Thank you so much in advance for your help.

    We use structured Framemaker, and insert the graphic as an element. It is a linked file, not imported. The files, as I mentioned, are AI files, not saved as EPS or a rasterized file type. It is a full vector .ai file.
    We have occasionally seen a similar problem when there have been overlays (to show dimension/shadows), but removing the overlay has solved the problem. What gets me, now, is that it is creating these seemingly random blocks in the graphics - as though parts of the illustration are being rendered as low-res bitmaps. In the PDF file, we can click on the poorly rendered section, delete it, and it removes a layer or two from the illustration, but the background is still intact (in other words, it doesn't leave a white gap).

  • TPS file is not deleted after FrameMaker creates PDFs via Acrobat 8

    Using FrameMaker 7.2 build 158, and Adobe Acrobat 8, when creating PDF files, the temporary PostScript file (*.tps), which is created before the final PDF, is not deleted after the creation of the PDF is complete.
    This is a big deal for us because we are using a tool which hooks into the PDF-creation of FrameMaker/Distiller, and is reliant on this TPS file being deleted.
    Is this a known bug? Does Adobe know about this? Do any other users have workarounds for this?

    Thomas,
    FWIW, speaking from experience with the Save As route, I've seen
    random "phunnies" in the final PDFs (such as the missing fonts
    issues), a bigger .tps file than the .ps file generated from directly
    printing to file, slower throughput in both the intermediate
    postscript file creation and actual distilling (probably tied in to
    the larger .tps file) and other differences from what the joboptions
    should have been.
    There should not have been any differences in the file sizes being
    created if the same printer instance/configuration was actually being
    used. I also see this on some automated runs with Miramo. It's not
    consistent either - sometimes it works fine and then the next run, the
    process is considerably slower and there are dropouts in the PDFs.
    So far, manually printing to a ps file and distilling always seems to
    work without any issues.
    Your mileage may vary.

    Hi,
    Some Info.
    First click anywhere on the Desktop that might be visible around anything you have open.
    The word Finder should now appear in the menu bar.
    Click and hold this to see the menu and select Preferences.
    In the Preferences Window that shows up select Advanced.
    Select (Tick the check box) the option to Show All File Extensions.
    When this is done all the files on the computer will display their relevant .something ending (Extensions).
    So most things in the Application folder will now show ApplicationName.app
    In the Pictures Folder you will see different ones (if that is where your Picture files are)
    .jpg .tif, .png .gif
    Some of these such as .jpg or .gif and .tif are fairly universal meaning many apps can open them
    .pdf files can be opened by Preview and Adobe Reader as they are Portable Document Files (PDF) and needs a PDF reader. (they can be a mixture of Picture and Text like a word processing cocument)
    You will notice in my Pic I have ones ending in .psd
    These are saved from the Photoshop Graphics app.
    This leads on to the next point.
    Most apps will save Files with an ending that in most cases only they can open.
    For instance iChat can be set to Save Transcripts.
    these are stored in your Home Folder/Documents/iChats in dated sub folders.
    You will find they end in .ichat
    TextEdit  can save in two formats (file Extensions)
    .rtf (Rich Text File) or .txt (Plain Text FIle)
    Ususally in a file name there is only one . (dot) before the end.
    So the way you wrote .jpg.pdf etc. would not exist  (there are of course exceptions)
    Double Clicking a file will normally get the App that created it or the nearest thing you have that can open it to Launch and then show you the file.  (There are ways to Control which app opens which files but that is another lesson)
    If this does not work you can go to the Finder's File Menu and use Open With - which will present you with a list of apps that can open a file.  (Often this will include Browsers as they often have Plug-ins that deal with the Pics on web sites - Safari for instance includes a PDF reader)
    .js does stand for Javacsript.
    This is used on Web sites to help with functionality.
    It would be unusual to download this unless you were downloading something for a web site about building web sites.
    On most web sites the Javascript is a separate file that the page accesses when needed to do a specific thing. Sometimes though small short exerts of javascript may actually appear on the page (When looked at in Source view).
    It is similar with .css (Cascading Style Sheets) that many web sites use to change basic HTML into the layout and colours you want.   (Again it would be unusual to download such a file)
    If you want to know what created or might open a file search here (Common File Extensions)
    I would be cautious about deleting anything that you don't know what it is.
    The exception to that would be anything that is in your Downloads Folder or has been placed on the Desktop.
    Anything that is in Your Home Folder (the Little House icon) is yours.
    However deleting stuff in the Library that is inside there may cause problems with apps running properly.
    In may cases the Preferences you set are stored there. In some cases the results of you choices cause other things to be stored that are needed when the app runs.
    Deleting things in Documents, Pictures, Movies only deletes things you might want to Keep.
    I would also leave iTunes and iPhoto files alone in their relevant places.
    If in doubt post and ask.  Be clear about where the file is located and what you know about  how it got there.

  • PDF Watermark - logo image is not displayed in ibr converted pdf

    Hi
    I have enabled pdf watermark administration and configured image watermark with rule, if the content type is document then the image watermark is to be applied but it is not displayed to the converted word document to pdf by IBR.
    If i change image watermark layer to "over", then image watermark is displayed, but word are displayed under the logo image watermark, so it is difficult to study the document.
    If the native file is pdf, then its image watermark is working fine.
    Thanks
    Deepak

    Hi ,
    I think this could be caused by the following :
    Check the factor set for Transparency and if it is completely opaque (Transparency =0%) then the converted PDF's will not show watermarks which has Layer set to UNDER.
    To get the watermarks displayed PPT's will need to be set to Transparency = 100% .
    The intention of the UNDER watermarking layer is that it should appear"behind" whatever is in the content layer.If the content layer completely covers the page and is opaque, then nothing behind it will be visible,including watermarks.The only reasonable solution is to check the above mentioned value before submitting the PPT's for conversion so that users are aware of this behavior for PPT's
    The above description if for PPT's where in this was found to be caused by the transparency factor of native PPT . If it is a word document then check for the same setting and set to 100% , then test .
    Hope this helps .
    Thanks,
    Srinath

  • How to insert a pdf or jpeg image into a blob column of a table

    How to insert a pdf or jpeg image into a blob column of a table

    Hi,
    Try This
    Loading an image into a BLOB column and displaying it via OAS
    The steps are as follows:
    Step 1.
    Create a table to store the blobs:
    create table blobs
    ( id varchar2(255),
    blob_col blob
    Step 2.
    Create a logical directory in the database to the physical file system:
    create or replace directory MY_FILES as 'c:\images';
    Step 3.
    Create a procedure to load the blobs from the file system using the logical
    directory. The gif "aria.gif" must exist in c:\images.
    create or replace procedure insert_img as
    f_lob bfile;
    b_lob blob;
    begin
    insert into blobs values ( 'MyGif', empty_blob() )
    return blob_col into b_lob;
    f_lob := bfilename( 'MY_FILES', 'aria.gif' );
    dbms_lob.fileopen(f_lob, dbms_lob.file_readonly);
    dbms_lob.loadfromfile( b_lob, f_lob, dbms_lob.getlength(f_lob) );
    dbms_lob.fileclose(f_lob);
    commit;
    end;
    Step 4.
    Create a procedure that is called via Oracle Application Server to display the
    image.
    create or replace procedure get_img as
    vblob blob;
    buffer raw(32000);
    buffer_size integer := 32000;
    offset integer := 1;
    length number;
    begin
    owa_util.mime_header('image/gif');
    select blob_col into vblob from blobs where id = 'MyGif';
    length := dbms_lob.getlength(vblob);
    while offset < length loop
    dbms_lob.read(vblob, buffer_size, offset, buffer);
    htp.prn(utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2(buffer));
    offset := offset + buffer_size;
    end loop;
    exception
    when others then
    htp.p(sqlerrm);
    end;
    Step 5.
    Use the PL/SQL cartridge to call the get_img procedure
    OR
    Create that procedure as a function and invoke it within your PL/SQL code to
    place the images appropriately on your HTML page via the PL/SQL toolkit.
    from a html form
    1. Create an HTML form where the image field will be <input type="file">. You also
    need the file MIME type .
    2. Create a procedure receiving the form parameters. The file field will be a Varchar2
    parameter, because you receive the image path not the image itself.
    3. Insert the image file into table using "Create directory NAME as IMAGE_PATH" and
    then use "Insert into TABLE (consecutive, BLOB_OBJECT, MIME_OBJECT) values (sequence.nextval,
    EMPTY_BLOB(), 'GIF' or 'JPEG') returning BLOB_OBJECT, consecutive into variable_blob,
    variable_consecutive.
    4. Load the file into table using:
    dbms_lob.loadfromfile(variable_blob, variable_file_name, dbms_lob.getlength(variable_file_name));
    dbms_lob.fileclose(variable_file_name);
    commit.

    Simma........

  • I get the following error when trying to open a pdf file... '*pdf.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read"

    I get the following error when trying to open a pdf file... '*pdf.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read". I am able to open pdf files in IE and other programs.

    I am encountering the same problem -- though with .qfx files from my bank. This worked fine in Firefox 31 ESR, but since upgrading to Firefox 33.0, I get the "<name>.qfx.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read" when I attempt to download. (I should add that downloading PDF statements from the same site works fine, and that the qfx downloads work fine in IE and Chrome.)
    I tried safe mode, it is still broken. Tried v34 beta, no luck. I reverted to version 31, it works again.
    I guess I will stick with the older version until a solution is found...or just use an alternate browser to download my financial data.

    Hi gretchenm66156293,
    Are you running into this issue with one PDF in particular, or with any PDF that you open? Did the PDF display correctly previously? How was that PDF created?
    For starters, please choose File > Properties and click the Fonts tab. What fonts are used in the PDF? Are they "embedded" or "subsetted."
    I would be happy to take a look at the PDF here, if you'd like. Let me know!

    Hi,
    After upgrading from MICROSOFT Office 2007 to 2010, I notice that PDF Maker is missing in Office Ribbon.
    I tried Repairing & Reinstalling ADOBE Acrobat 9.0 (+ Update to 9.3.2) but still the same problem.
    Another try :
    Fresh install of Windows XP SP3 + Office 2010 Pro + Acrobat 9.0 + Acrobat Update to 9.2.0 + Acrobat Update to 9.3.2
    Same Problem
    COM Addin is active but PDF Maker Pane is missing in Office 2010 Ribbon.
    I tried soluce in article 330984 (kb) but without success.
    ... so is Acrobat PDF Maker Addin is compatible with Office 2010 Pro (Word, Excel, ...) ?
    Is there a fix or should I wait next patch from ADOBE ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    @Pramod Sarma
    I've updated my Acrobat to 9.3.4, rebooted my system, I see the Add-in under Options> Add-ins>  Active Application Add-ins and can choose it under COM Add-Ins.  BUT  it does NOT show up in the Menu Bar of the Program Word, Excel, etc.  No Tab, No nothing.  Its still doesn't work.
    Does anyone have a trick to reactivate it somehow?
    AND by the way,  YOU CAN select Save-As and Select PDF and it works JUST fine!  I just did it.
    Also, as fix for all of you that say we are whining about not having the PDF maker "QUICK" links in the menu-bar, YES you can click File>Print and choose PDF to print to as well.
    It would just be nice to have a ONE-CLICK option back.
    Thanks!
    SO, to RECAP... you can do the Two or Three Click options of PRINT and choose PDF or you can do SAVE-AS and choose PDF.... BUT again it would be nice to have a working ONE Click option.  Thank you again

  • Saving PDF files as image files using the Preview application

    I'm converting PDF files into image files for use with OCR software. The problem is that changing the pixels/inch option from 150 to say 300 does not improve the resolution of the resulting image file. E.g. if I save at 150 p/i and then 300p/i both image files are the same size and resolution. I've tried JPG, JPG-2000, TIFF, and GIF. All produce the same fuzzy result. What am I doing wrong?

    The schematic file is made up from vector graphics. There are no images embedded in it. For some reason the OCR software (PDF pen) will not recognize the vector drawn characters near the various components. e.g. There may be a resistor with "R5" written next to it. This is the resistors designator. The designator is what I am trying to do the search on. Since PDF pen can perform OCR on scanned (image) documents I thought that turning the PDF schematic into an image file e.g. JPG using Preview would do the trick. Unfortunately as I have already mentioned I can not seem to get Preview to improve the resolution on the resulting image file - the OCR software struggles to recognize any print.

  • PDF Printing with images

    Hello all-
    I was wondering if it is possible to create a PDF document with images from a report that has images, through the FOP. I have tried this on APEX 3.2.1 and APEX 4.0.1, but with no success. I installed FOP in a standalone OC4J that I have installed on my PC and this works fine. I am using the Demonstration Application to test creating the PDF with images by trying to print page 23 - it is a report with images. I get a PDF report, but the image column is blank - no image, no errors. Has anyone been able to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

    Hi,
    yes you can, this tool allows you to create FOP templates with images (look at the examples)
    http://www.java4less.com/fopdesigner/fodesigner.php?info=guide
    You can of course create your own FOP templates without this tool, there is a XSL-FO tag to do that, you must make sure the images are available to the print server, either by referencing images on the file system or deploying the images in the print server.

  • [Automator] Render PDF Pages as Images problem

    Hi,
    I'm using an Automator Action called "Render PDF Pages as Images". It is not working properly. I've also tried one called "Change Types if Images" with the same results. The problem is both of these actions will create an image, but they won't put it anywhere other than a temp directory. With the second action, if I do it on an image file like a jpg, it will convert the image and put it in the directory the file exist in. I have a bunch of PDFs that are really just scanned images that I need to convert to TIFF and I want to automate it. It is frustrating that the actions are not working as documented. Both are supposed to render the change on the existing file in the location it exists and neither is work that way when run against a PDF.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Christopher Stumpf wrote:
    It's really simple.
    It's a service item and it contains just one of the actions I've already listed. They are supposed to change the existing file to the desired type, in place.
    no, they are not supposed to do that. they don't say anything of the sort in their descriptions. moreover, this is completely impossible if a pdf file has several pages. I just tried it and it works just fine. I passed a multipage pdf to the action "render pdf pages as images" and it made a number of separate pdf files - one for each page, as it should according to the description. they are temp files, yes. so you just need to follow it by the action to copy (or move files) and then by "rename finder items".
    my workflow:
    1. get specified (or selected) finder items.
    2. render pdf pages as images.
    3. move finder items
    3. rename finder items.

    What? Of course they can. You just need to have a PDF plugin installed in your browser.
    Is there a way to do it programmatically with existing software libraries that can be used as a plug-in?
    Plugin for what, exactly?
    You can use various libraries to convert PDF files to image files in a stand-alone application, sure. For example, you can use PDFBox in Java to do it.
