FrameMaker und s1000d

Hallo,
bin mit s1000d relativ gut vertraut, bin aber absoluter Framemaker-Anfänger und habe nun FM 10 vor mir. Habe alle erdenklichen (englischsprachigen) Hilfen durch aber so gut wie kein Wort verstanden. Was mir fehlt ist der Einstieg.
Mit der neuesten FM-Version wird die Issue 4.0 der s1000d geliefert, meine Daten soll ich aber nach der Issue 2.2 erstellen. Das Paket habe ich mir heruntergeladen. Komme jetzt aber nicht weiter weil ich nicht weiß wie ich eine DTD bzw. EDD erstelle und/oder die Struktur der Issue 2.2 in den FM bringe.
Gibt es eine deutschsprachige Hilfe oder kann mir jemand Tipps geben?

I've tried working through the error messages to isolate the problem but the FM+SGML Error Messages only confuses me more. I don't believe the problem is in the DTD (otherwise other S1000D users would've complained) so I can only think I've left something out. I've checked my file paths and they look good to me. What have I done wrong?

FrameMaker 11 S1000D Data Module List is empty

Hi
I'm currently looking at FrameMaker 11's S1000D plugin. I've read the documentation that is available but I'm confused.
I've set up a project, which is a copy of the default Bike project in the same location (in my Roaming Frame directory) but when I load the S1000D Common Source Data the Data Module List is empty.
I can click onto the edit button and this will load the DML document and I can edit this with new Data Module Codes and save this document. But when I follow the instructions to refresh this list I'm getting a blank window.
I want to be able to see how well this plug in works for IPD Data Modules, but without the ability to insert a dmRef from the Common Source Data window I cannot proceed any further.
Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

i try to configures form setting,
and i can see the item list on service menu (but i have got an error at the first time, and shutdown the sap program, then i start again it works only in service menu). But another modules i try press tab, and my sap not responding and shuting down sap by it self. I try to start but always shutdown when i press TAB key after not responding.
maybe i must login by administrator (Windows) later, but my sysadmin not in office. i will write the message later here.

FrameMaker 10 can't be activated without Internet access

The company for which I work recently bought a number of FrameMaker 10 licences. Several days after installing it, a message began to appear when FrameMaker was launched: "Unable to activate Adobe FrameMaker 10". The message goes on to say that product activation is required, we must connect to the internet to activate it, and we have 23 days to activate the product before it becomes disabled.
The problem is, the PCs on which it's installed are connected to a defence classified network which is not connected to the internet and cannot be under any circumstances. Removing the PCs from the network and connecting them to the internet is not an option, given our security requirements.
One of our technical support people contacted Adobe to find a way around this, and was told that if we won't connect to the internet we can't use the product.
This seems extraordinary. Many defence contractors must be using FrameMaker, and many will have the same security requirements as us. And the latest releases of FrameMaker have S1000D support -- an odd thing to include if Adobe wants to stop selling products to defence contractors, as appears to be the case.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

And that's support of XP by MS, not Adobe ... as in "no more security patches", which means that your XP system is dead meat for the first zero-day exploit that comes out after 2014-04-01. Predictions are this will happen within 24 hours of last patch. That said, so many enterprise environments are still on XP, that there is a credible chance that MS will reneg on the threat and keep patching for a while. Don't count on it.
And if you can move off XP, Windows7 is probably a safer target than Window8 (soon to be Windows8.1, for which the RTM, essential for ISV testing, only just became available today).
Win7 supports XP Mode (32-bit XP virtual machine) on Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise. You might not need that for FM10, but you might need it for other apps. Win8 does not support XP mode. XP mode, of course, is also EOL on 2014-04-01, but you could probably configure it to have no internet access, isolating it from the threats to a large extent.

Mark, it's EERIE that you should say this to me today because this is exactly what I have been thinking! I can put a song on a page with one eye shut now, and I can zip around those files pretty well (except for the recent fiasco where I didn't even look at the right folder). I also notice that the level of my writing is sounding more technical and familiar with digital world jargon. I remember how you told me I could do it, and you were right. You all were right and I feel more knowledgeable and at a point where I suspect that I can take steps on my own. HTML is a strange land, but just being able to edit that .js file and FIND it by navigating for it in Text Edit has made me feel much more competent.
Before iWeb I didn't realize what Text Edit was for. I used it to take quick fast short notes. I never understood that concept of "opening something up in so and so application." The first time I clicked OPEN in Text Edit, and I saw all those danged files staring at me with beady eyes, I wanted to throw a white hanky and run for the hills. Not any more!

Problem mit Framemaker 7.2 und XP Servicepack 3

Hallo,
wir haben bei uns in der Firma nun den Service Pack 3 für Windows XP verteilt.
Nun haben wir aber auf allen Arbeitsplätzen mit Framemaker 7.2 und auf einem Arbeitsplatz mit FM 8 Probleme mit der Schriftart Arial Black Bolded. Diese wird auf einmal überall als nicht vorhanden angemeckert und durch Arial Black Heavy ersetzt.
Kann uns jemand weiterhelfen?

Two (sort of) workarounds:
1. Use Edit > Paste Special (Rich Text Format). However, if you have color-shaded cells, they covert as black fill; in FM, changing the text in those cells to "white" is a workaround to the workaround. :|
2. Copy/Paste the table into Word, Save As the Word to RTF, copy the table in Word then, in FM use Edit > Paste Special (Rich Text Format). Plain text and cell shading converts fine; however, calculated numbers get trashed. Another :|

Frame Maker 10 with S1000D - Figure TOC not in format

I am using Frame Maker 10 with S1000D Application Pack, i have new document from S1000D->New->Crew Modle, inputing the data as per the Elements and updating the TOC S1000D->Update TOCs all works fine, but when i insert the Figure and updated the TOCs its not in the format
When i checked the sample document which is given in FM 10 S1000D, Once i Insert the Element "Figure Title" it inputs auto number...but not in Crew Modle.
Please help me how to go with this

This formatting error is due to a missing text format rule in the Crew Module application. The quickest way to fix this is as follows:
Locate the S1000D application files within the FrameMaker installation folder.
Open the EDD for the Crew application: crew_401.edd.fm.
Also open the EDD for the Description application: description_401.edd.fm.
In the crew EDD locate the figureTitle element definition which is in the Graphics section. You should see that figureTitle has no formatting rules.
The Description EDD does include the required formatting rules, so simply copy those rules into the Crew EDD.
Save the Crew EDD. This may require changing the EDD's file permissions to allow read/write access.
Open the Crew template: crew_401.tpl.fm.
Import the EDD into the template using File > Import > Element Definitions...
Save the Crew template.
Open the crew data module, the List of Figures will now show the correct formatting.
Note: Do not import the EDD directly into an open data module as that will overwrite the attribute values as defined by the BREX mapping.

Saving a formatted file for S1000D

Hi,
I have had some success creating a document using the S1000D download with Framemaker 9. I can save it as a .sgm file and get it back. Problem is I want to format the contents in Framemaker. SGML doesn't include formatting so I tried to save it as a framemaker 9 file and it bombed out completely and closed Framemaker. This happens even if I start a new S1000D document and try to save it as a .fm file immediately without changing anything. Has anyone else had this problem or am I doing something stupid?
Another Question: Has Adobe released a more up to date version of S1000D than 2.2? They're on 4.0.1 now.

I was hoping this wouldn't open another can of worms. I am indeed using the beta application pack for FM 7.2.
The strangest thing is that I've just tried it again and the sgm file saved successfully as a fm9 file and came back into framemaker with the formatting entact. I tried this several times earlier and it bombed FM completely. It might be because I didn't have any images this time. There are XSLT warnings when opening the sgm file though.
This is all moot if the SGML will be invalid.
To answer your question, I am trying to output to SGML by starting a new document using the S1000D2.21descript structured application. I then "Save As", choosing an sgm extension from the "Save as Type" dropdown. I can then open this file, special paste text from Word and save. Later, I open the .sgm file, save as a .fm file and format it.

kennt jemand einen einfachen weg, eine eigene Nummerierung in FrameMaker einzubinden. Ich möchte z.B. das I und das O bei einer
-Sequenz ausblenden. Leider bin ich kein C-Profi kann aber ein bißchen darin schreiben.

If Windows, what default printer is defined while rendering the PDF?
Having a B&W Ps printer driver configured (say, LaserJet 4M PS) would cause exactly that result.
You need a color Ps printer driver configured, or more ideally, a pseudo printer using the ADISTIL PPD, PDFwriter or similar.

Missing tools bars for structured authoring in Framemaker 11

I am watching a couple of videos for converting a Framemaker document to DITA. I notice that in the videos there are several new toolbars available:
Element
StructureTools
DITA
S1000D
I am not seeing any of these toolbars when I open Framemaker 11. Any idea what's going on.

Definitely not stupid. It's a common question.
I wish Adobe would eliminate the switch from structured to unstructured. It just causes confusion. You can work on unstructured files perfectly well with the structured interface. Just switch to structured mode and leave it there .. no need to switch back and forth.
If anything, Adobe should add the ability to easily customize the menus that are available so you can turn off menus that you don't use. This would have the same effect as the interface switching, but seems more sensible to me.

S1000d - Business Rule validation

Hi- I have just started using S1000d, i created a rule in my business module( eg //description/para/emphasis) with allowedObjectFlag=0 , i have also set my Data module pointing to the business module. And so, when and how does my Data module get validated against the mentioned rule? Whenever i try to validate my Data module, it turns out as valid even though my data module has //description/para/emphasis element in it. Please let me know what should i be doing in order to catch my rule?

Hier eines meiner dringlichsten Probleme:
Ist jemandem die FM Fehlermeldung:
makersgml: Unexpected purge 0400
bekannt und woher diese kommt bzw. was diese Meldung verursacht.
Bei uns tritt Sie sowohl unter Unix als auch unter NT auf wenn wir in eine FM Datei ein Template importieren und danach diese Datei speichern.
Oft, jedoch nicht reproduzierbar crashed dann der FM+SGML.
Ich wäre für jeden Tip Dankbar.

Based on your description, stay far, far away from inDesign -- your developer knows not what he's asking for. InDesign is great for many things (graphics, single-documents, catalogs). Not so for tagged, multi-channel technical documentation.
Here's a comparison wirtten up by Adobe. It compares Cs3, but it's still pretty spot on for Cs4.

Konvertieren von *.fm in *.sgm mit Adobe Framemaker+SGML 6.0

Beim Konvertierung von *.fm Dateien in *.sgm wird man bei Adobe Framemaker+SGML 6.0 immer gefragt, ob man auch in xml konvertieren möchte. Man muss für jede einzelne Datei ja bzw nein anklicken. Hat jemand eine Idee, ob man das irgendwo ausstellen kann, dass er jedesmal fragt, ob man auch in XML konvertieren will, da ich nie von fm->xml konvertieren möchte.
Hoffe ihr könnt mir weiterhelfen - es ist nämlich sehr zeitaufwendig, wenn man zB 200Dateien konvertiert und dann 200mal Nein klicken muss.

FrameMaker FDK Problem

Fehler beim compilieren

Ich muss für FrameMaker ein paar neue Funktionen programmieren. Also ich hab mir das FrameDevelopmentKit heruntergeladen und installiert. Dann noch Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition installiert. Nun will ich einfach die mitgelieferten Samples compilieren und gehe dabei auch wie in der Dokumentation beschrieben vor.
