Framemaker8 dingbats font missing on win7

Help!  We lost our frame expert.
We use dingbats font in our frame templates for a variety of symbols, design elements as well as text elements.  On win 7, we get a missing font error.  I purchased ITC dingbats and installed on win 7, but still getting a missing font error.
I think I have to edit the maker.ini file but not sure where or what I need to add.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

SOLUTION! This appears to related to the fact that the object in the file was a GRAPH. The increments had always appeared blank in the final document, and the corresponding cells in the datasheet were blank. To fix the problem,  I had to enter text in every blank cell in the first column of the datasheet to make it visible as a Category Axis label in the graph,. Since it didn't matter what the text was, I just used a period symbol in each empty cell. Then I could group select the Category Axis label text at the bottom of the graph, apply the Character Style with the preferred font, and CLEAR the override (if it appeared) to the Character Style.
I then closed and reopened, and the missing font message did not appear. I removed the periods in the datasheet, saved again, opened, and the missing font message appeared to be gone for good.
So it does appear that whatever font was assigned to the Graph Category Label text was still assigned, even though the font wasn't visible in any of the panels or through Find Fonts.
NOTE: The unwanted InterstateTab-Regular Type1 font NEVER APPEARED anywhere that I could see in Illustrator. It didn't appear in FIND FONTS or in my CHARACTER panel, even when I only selected one individual "invisible" increment, or one of the increments when it became visible with the period symbol. However, it was obviously embedded in the graph element itself at the time I had created the graph. And if I created a pdf file, from Illustrator or from the InDesign file the Illustrator art was linked to, it appeared in the FONTS tab. So it was clearly getting embedded in the pdf file. The only font that every appeared in any window, except for the missing fonts message on opening, was the correct InterstateRLTab Regular Opentype font.

  • Arial-BoldItalicMT font missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I updated to Snow Leopard yesterday and when I open iWeb I get a message that the font Arial-BoldItalicMT is missing. The program does not offer a substitute and this happens to be my favorite font, which I use in all my websites.
The text in all my pages appears stacked as if the kerning was corrupt. There is no way to fix this through the inspector nor through the font window. i tried to look for this font on the internet to add it to my fonts suitcase, but I cannot find it as written in the error message (Arial-BoldItalicMT)
    Can anyone help?
I tried restoring the iWeb domain file from yesterday's back up but this did not solve the problem.
I cannot update any of my pages for fear of passing on this problem to my live, published pages on my hosting service.
    Thank you.
    Juan Carlos

    Thanks, Tom.
The font as you write it "Arial Bold Italic" is in my 10.6 folder. As per OT's suggestion I turned it off and on again. The font name written in the error message is "Arial-BoldItalic"
I don't know what the dash means but it does not seem to be a change in name from 10.5
I tried re-installing the font. I also tried making a copy of it and adding the dash to the copy but iWeb crashes if I do this when I try to save, so I trash the copy with the dash.
Arial is the only font that seems to be having the problem in iWeb. Just now, however, I opened word and whenever I tried to select Arial as the font, word showed Arial selected but one of the dingbat fonts actually came out as characters when I typed. Could there be another preference document that I should trash/rebuild. Some directory somewhere sounds corrupt.
    Thanks.

  • Font missing issues

After seemingly resolving 'font missing' message when opening a document, the font is still highlighted in pale pink and I can't seem to get rid of it. Can anyone help?

Strangely enough, I seem to have resolved the issue myself, by removing the fonts from Font Book. Your last reply popped up as I was removing them, and I was going to reload them to font book, however when I went to inDesign to open the document and get you some screenshots, the issue seemed to have resolved itself, leaving me baffled, as I thought I had to have fonts installed in Font Book to be able to use them?
I do have a secondary issue with another font, Knockout, though. I have added this to Font Book, for use in the same document (I had no issues with this one going missing though), but when I view it in Font Book, it appears as shown below? Do you know why?

  • Symbol font missing problem

I have a Visio design containing symbols from Symbols font (in Windows) converted to PDF and then imported in the Illustrator CS 6. It says the symbol font missing and substitued with 'Myriad Pro', and those symbols are shown as crossed ('X'). As suggested in some posts, I tried to replace this font with <Symbol> font  (tried others as well) using 'Find Font', but it didn't replace. Can some one tell me a working solution, preferably the solution to the missing symbol font problem itself, if not a way to replace.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Raj

Placing seems to work even without flattening, but as you said cannot edit text anymore.
Regarding the other solution, that is where my problem was. I tried to assign the correct font  (and with some other fonts too just to check) to the text objects, but Illustrator doesn't seem to accept as the font remains the same 'Myriad Pro' all the time! It is infact what 'Find Font' does for font replacemet, if I understood correctly, but alas this too doesn't work.
Until there is no better solution, I can at least use the edit restricted place method for now! Thanks Monika for that.

  • Opera fonts missing/garbled? [solved]

I just did an Arch installation on my desktop out of curiosity, and it is FAST AS A MOTHER(rhymes with)TRUCKER ... now I can see what the whole rage was about!  I've been running it on my 233Mhz Dechutes laptop w/212MB ram and THAT runs well, man!!  2.35 Ghz really shows.
Anyway ... I have installed (via pacman) xorg, xfce4, opera, and some other misc stuff, and when using opera, I can't help but notice that there are fonts missing.  I have opera set to pop-up a progress bar at the bottom of the page as things load, and I see a lot of boxes, empty spaces, and sometimes kanji characters.  Also, in the transfers window, there is no text at all.  Like where the filename, size, etc. should be, there is just blank space.  Very weird.
Is anyone having a similar problem?  Is there a font pack that I should install or something?  Everything runs spankin ... except for opera.  And that still runs very spankin, just the fonts ... they don't.
    Thanks all!

    I had the same problem...
In opera no text in transfer window, in console - corrupted MC...
Fixed it by changing my locale=en_US.utf8 to en_US.85... can't remember exact numbers... You just edit /etc/locales.gen file - uncomment that en_US.85...... and then save and run locales-gen...
It workeg for me now i have a beautifull MC in console and everything else
    I'm using fluxbox...

  • Dingbat fonts not displaying in Leopard 10.5.2

I just spent the day troubleshooting a problem where Zapf Dingbats wouldn't display in Quark 6.52 on an Intel iMac running 10.5.2. Thinking the problem was a naming conflict, I decided to remove all PostScript fonts, replacing them with OTF versions that had unique names. As an added precaution, I archived and installed Leopard again.
When I tested Quark in 10.5, +ITC Zapf Dingbats Std+ worked, but after installing 10.5.2 it didn't.
So I called Apple, and while testing it turned out that other dingbat fonts such as Symbols, Webdings, Wingdings, etc. didn't work in TextEdit and Pages. The Tier 2 tech said it is indeed a problem with the latest Leopard update and that he'll let me know in the next five days what the workaround or solution is.
So I'm posting this to help those with similar problems avoid a long call to tech support. When I have an answer I'll post that.

In showing this anomaly to someone this morning, I pasted Dingbats & Wingdings strings into a bare TE document, and, indeed, it gets the Private Use character substituted all over.
If you make the TE doc rich text, select those PUA chars, and set the font to Dingbats or whatever, do you get the right stuff?
And, while Keyboard Viewer input doesn't work for TE (still Lucida Grande subbed), it works fine in other applications, like Word. Do you think that, then, it's still Kbd Vwer mapping at fault? I find it hard to believe that Word is smart enough to overcome that flaw somehow...
Unfortunately I don't have Word to test, but I would wonder whether it is actually displaying PUA points or is just somehow using Latin points with its own non-Unicode fonts or something like that.

  • Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's

Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's. Where can I downlaod it and why is it suddenly happening?

    OS? Version of ID?
This means that either you have an extra Helvetica Medium font installed and it's interfering with ID finding the T1 version, or the T1 version is damaged. I found this really old thread that explains it fairly well: http://www.asadesigner.com/22-indesign/2d812de56777cc90.htm
The good news is that it's probably only affecting the page information marks.

  • Zapf Dingbats font doesn't work in FrameMaker 8

many of my company's standard templates use Zapf Dingbats. In Frame 8, these characters disappear. It it really possible that Adobe fixed Frame 8 so this font can't be used? Is there a workaround? Using a different font isn't a solution because of the way documents are shared and routed.
I am using Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 6400.

I never even knew there was a Dingbat fix, as I never had a problem with the font and Frame before.
In Frame 8 all the characters disappeared. When I print to a pdf, I get an error message thusly:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: ZapfDingbats not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%
    Stack:
    /Font
    (ZapfDingbats)
    false
    /2
    0
    /F0
    false
    /ZapfDingbats
I get no such error message with Frame 7.
Now, I took my elderly Zapf Dingbats font and ran it through Fontographer--I didn't change a thing, I just generated a new Type 1 font. Frame 8 was happy with that one, but Frame 7 displayed some other font instead. I have no idea what the font is, it kinda looks like Arial.

  • "What U Hear" Missing in Win7

'"What U Hear" Missing in Win7? I have two separate Sound Blaster X-FI Extreme Audio soundcards (though of different makes) and the same issue with both? - ever since upgrading to Windows 7 neither card, after properly installed and with latest driver installed, will display "What U hear" in my audio stack.
A point of clarrification on the cards:
One is a PCI SB0790, the other however is manufactured by MSI, and is a PCIe MS 432, but still bears the creative labs logo, as well as the X-FI Extreme Audio product name and it also has a driver put out by Creative labs so it should still be valid to bring up here.
I've run through a few tutorials I found online such as <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20595-what-u-hear-recording-enable.html"]http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20595-what-u-hear-recording-enable.html[/url] but to no avail - neither "What U Hear" or "Stero Mixer" show up in the list of available recording devices. Prior to installing Win7 I was primarily using the MSI card and "What U Hear" was indeed available in my audio stack.
    Any suggestions?

    +Re: "What U Hear" Missing in Win7G ?
Agreed! I have an X-FI Extreme, upgraded to win 7, installed the latest audio drivers, and have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get my "what u hear" back without any luck at all.
I'll also mention that "disabled devices" are shown in the recording options, so that is not the issue.
I was using vista before with the exact same hardware and "what u hear" was available. The driver version was 5.2..200 dated 4/02/07 ... The current driver for windows-7 is 5.2..208 dated 3/08/2009. Maybe installing an older driver would do the trick? I don't know if that would work as I haven't been able to find the old driver I was using for download (just been bombarded with broken links). I'm also guessing that you'll be held hostage to the latest drivers in windows 7.
Get the latest drivers to lose functionality? Sounds like something apple would pull on you!
If anyone has a solution for this, please let us know, otherwise I'll be rolling all the way back to good old XP again.

  • CS6 problems with using Zapf Dingbats font

The same font file works perfectly in QXpress (9.5.3) but not in Illustrator (16.0.0) and even less signs show in InDesign (8.0).
I work in Mac OS 10.6.8.
My old ITC Zapf Dingbats was a PS Type 1 font from the last century, version 001.001. (I have not used Dingbats in InDesign yet. I dug up QuarkXPress again today to check and all dingbats work fine there while) InDesign only displays half of them. Then I bought an OTF (Version 2.066;PS 005.000;hotconv 1.0.67;makeotf.lib2.5.33168) of this font today and installed it – with worse results: next to none display in ID.
(I test with a font size of 18 pt.)
I can reach all dingbats via the Glyphs command though, but that's not the idea, is it? They should be under the keys for quick access!
Might have something to do with InDesign's font substitution settings but I don't know where to access them.
(There was a similar question – https://forums.adobe.com/message/1280829#1280829 – but that was over six years ago. I hope there is a smarter solution by now…)

  • Can you use dingbat fonts in TextEdit?

In TextEdit, if I go to the font panel and select a dingbat font (Wingdings, Webdings, Zapf Dingbats) and then type some letters, I just see plain letters. Why won't the special symbols show up?

Unicode systems like OS X normally don't just switch fonts to change characters. You need to use the Character Palette (Edit > Special Characters) to input symbols instead of the keyboard. You can use View = Glyph and choose the font.

  • Zapf Dingbats font corrupt on new laptop

I am moving to a new laptop. My old laptop had Windows XP SP 2, FrameMaker 8.0p277, and Acrobat Distiller 8. I had 2 Zapf Dingbats fonts that worked fine on my old laptop (ZapfDinbats and ZapfDingbatsStd [OpenType]). However, on my new laptop, when I try to install the ZapfDingbats .pfm version of Zapf Dingbats, I get a corrupt font error. The new laptop has the following applications: Windows XP SP 3, FrameMaker 8.0p277, and Distiller 8.0. Other people on my team have downloaded and installed this file without any problems. I've done some reading on the Forum about this issue. But I haven't found a solution to my problem yet. Would someone please help me? Someone mentioned a bios setting without any particulars. I'm wondering whether I need to do something like that here.

Is it possible that your new laptop has a Nvidia graphics card? A Google search for «"XP SP3" postscript fonts» reveals solutions like this:
Open the registry editor (START, RUN and type regedit and click OK)
Navigate to the following key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro  l\SessionManager\MemoryManagement
Add a new REG_DWORD Value - Change the name of the value to SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20  and then reboot the machine.
Found in a German Windows related forum, where the thread describes exactly your problems (solution comes from DELL). Maybe it's worth a try.
Edit: here's an English blog which gives the same solution (scroll down to the end of the page):

  • Fonts missing – though I'm 100% sure I'm not using them

    Hi,
I've got a Keynote file, which I'm sure is only using one font ("Lato" from google fonts). Every time I open it, it says it's missing 2 more fonts (Cantarell and SourceSansPro).
I'm 100% sure the fonts are absolutely nowhere in the template. Not on any slide, and not in any Styles Preset:
I checked all presets and they only use Lato.
I duplicated the Keynote file and deleted all slides and all master slides apart from one. All I have left is an empty, white slide with absolutely no elements on it. Save -> reopen -> still says it's fonts missing!!
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I created the file, but during the creation of the file, the Lato font was not installed – I'm 100% sure.
The square shape was copied over from another presentation I created. And THAT presentation was using the Lato font (though NOT in the shape I copied over). For the new presentation, I don't use Lato and I also don't want to have to install it. I don't want to run around in circles, particularly not with installing fonts on iOS.
Anyway – the square only serves as a simple example, in order to illustrate the problem in a concise way. There's a lot more shapes that I want to copy from the old "Lato" presentation to this new one. NONE of those shapes have any fonts or text inside them, yet they still come up with the "font missing" problem.
I'm hoping that someone from the Apple Support team is reading this.
