Frames in CS4

When I modify an image in cs4 in multiple layers, sometimes I want to add a frame to the image. When I try to use the expand canvas command it expands the canvas all right, but with out color, black, white or otherwise.
If I flatten the image it will  work, but otherwise not.
What am I doing wrong??
Thanks,
John

1 Make a layer that is below allother lyaers
2 Select All Command A
3 Edit>Fill>Choose white from the drop down for color
4 Now resize the file, no need flatten.

    where to add frames in cs4 fireworks.
                                      Thanks BILL

    Open the Frames panel, first. (menu Window > States) Yes, in Fireworks CS4, frames were renamed to states, but they work in the same way!
    Then, see on attached file, where's the "Add new frame" icon in the panel.
    Hope this helps!

  • Capture Frame in CS4 MAC

    It appears from my searches that it is a very complicated task to capture a frame in CS4 MAC. In CS4 Windows you have the bitmap option on capture media but that does not appear for MAC. It will not let me uncheck capture video without a nasty note saying it cannot be done. Any clues. This (as it was in CS3) should be pretty easy...am I just missing something?

    If by "capture" you mean "export" then see the section
    Export a still image in the Premiere Pro Help for instructions.

  • How do I export a freeze frame in CS4?

    There's no longer an "Export/Frame" menu option in CS4 (as there was in CS3).
    How can I export a simple freeze frame from Premiere into another editing program, such as Photoshop?
    Thanks.

    I've torn out half my hair trying to answer the same question.  I think I have an answer and it had nothing to do with the many hours I've spent in Adobe's help and Forum to get an answer.  I had to figure it out myself.
    Here it is:  Because CS4 handles HD video, they don't export straight to JPEG.  They export to TIFF which is higher resolution than JPEG.  That's my guess, anyway.  To export a frame grab, go to FILE>EXPORT>MEDIA.  On the top right side of the window in the Format box, click the down arrow to open the list and select TIFF.  Click Okay.
    Another box will open up.  This is the Adobe Media Encoder window.  Yeah it's new to me too.
    The file you are trying to export should show up in the box with all it's wonderful detail including where you want it to go.  If you want to change the name of the exported frame, click on the 'Output File' portion of the detail and a 'Save As' window will pop up and you can rename the file.  Otherwise, CS4 will give it a generic name for you and you'll have to go find it.
    When you get done click 'Okay' and it takes you back to the Media Encoder window.  From there click on 'Start Que' and the file gets saved.  Click on the upper right X and the Media Encoder window closes.  There is no 'Done' or 'Close' button that I can find.
    Somehow I got my file to save as a JPEG the first time but I'm unable to duplicate my steps now, so just know that it can be done and be willing to experiment a little from here.  If you click on Add, it offers the JPEG format but it's trying to OPEN a file instead of SAVE.  I'll have to keep working on that part.
    I hope this helps.  These turkeys at Adobe should hire me as a troubleshooter and manual writer - I spend a lot of time trying to figure out things they don't document in the manual or help files.  As for the Forum - they can stuff that, it's useless.   This should be an exquisitely simple task - we all do frame grabs.  But they've made it into a monstrous chore.

  • Dropped Frames PPro CS4  AVCHD MTS cards

    I just purchased a Panasonic AG-HMC40U video cam.  I am using a Sandisk 32GB extreme SDHC card.  I did a shoot where I shot for two one hour sessions turning the camera off once and then on again between the two sessions.  I have a Dell Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU  920@ 2.67GHz   12GB ram, 64 bit with Win 7 home edition.  I put the card into my computer and saved the complete set of files to a folder on the computer.The files on the card are divided up into 26 minute sections which seems odd since I turned the camera off and on only once during the session.    I import the stream files into Adobe CS4 Prem Pro.  What I notice is at the end of each segment there is a dropped audio and visual frame.  Not good when recording someone singing!  I can overlay the visual with shots from another camera but the audio is not replaceable in live shows.  This also happens with my other Canon Vixia...but I figured it was the camera..now I know its not.  It happens with other SDHC cards as well.
    I did take my card files to the store where I purchased my Panasonic and they had Mac Final Cut Pro.  They imported the segmented files into it and it came in as two (which was the amount they should be) and there were  no dropped frames.
    I am perplexed as to why this is happening. I am told by everyone so far that I had talked to that it is Adobe Prem Pro CS4 that is not inporting the files correctly.  Should I upgrade to CS5.5?  Will this correct the issue?  Help.

    if its just one "red" frame..at each "segment" , you can cut that one frame out when you see it. and it wont hurt your timing etc or sync...when sound and video is still linked. ( in other words that one frame is cut out for both video and sound)
    I tend to think its the fat32 thing ( mac ) vs NTFS ( pc ).  dont be bummed ...happens even with pro dailies and stuff from fcp and avid to dvd dailies and is just one of those things you can fix  ( cut the frame out ) ...pretty fast and easy to do.

  • Can you export frames in CS4?

    If this is your frist time seeing me this last week, I just recently upgraded from 6.5 to pro 4.1. There use to be a function to export single frames so you can use them as still images; However, I can't find the function in this version, nor have I been able to find the info in the tutorials or support forums.

    The one little limitation/omission with the "fix" in CS4.1 is that the Exported still does not get added to the Project, as it did in other versions through CS3. Once, one had the option to either add it, or not. Now, the still must be Imported into the Project, as there is no longer a choice. At least this simple and necessary feature was added back to CS4.1, though with that one change.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Easy way to create freeze-frame in CS4

    I've tried following the help instructions in PPro CS4 to make a 10" freeze-frame of the last frame in a sequence, but it seems rather complicated and to be honest I haven't got it to work for me. Avid has a dedicated command for this function which is very easy to use.
    I only was able to get it to work by exporting a still of the last frame and then reimporting it into my project.
    Is there an easier way of doing this please?
    Chris

    There is Frame Hold, and the Help File has pretty good coverage of the ins-and-outs.
    Personally, for most of my Freeze Frames, I use your workflow, and just Export/Import.
    Note: things changed with CS4, and got complicated, until about the CS4.2 update. I think that the updates are up to CS4.3. If you have not updated to at least CS4.2, I would do that.
    While I am not a fan of a "big button" solution, I think that having such for Export Still Frame, and then automatically (via a toggle ON, or OFF) Importing into the Project would be a good one. In earlier versions of PrPro, things were easier. I use the Export/Import Still more for creating Menu animations for use in Encore, rather than traditional Freeze Frames, but feel that things could be much easier, than they are, even with the updates.
    Good luck,

  • How do I unthread text frames in CS4 InDesign Mac?

    I've looked everywhere and tried what I found in Adobe help. I can't FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out how to unthread text frames in InDesign CS4 [Mac].
    Please help. I know it must be simple.
    Thank you,
    Margot

    Run the SplitStory scipt thats in the samples in the scripts panel.
    A waord of caution, though. Splitting a threaded story caused ID to treat the text at the top of each frame as a new paragraph, even if it was caninued from a previous frame. This can result in unwanted changes like an indent, if such is called for in the paragraph style, or an extra number or bullet item in a list.

  • Incorrect imported frame rate cs4

    Unfortunatly my english is not as wide scaled as my duitch, so my answers may seem a bit odd. I will however do my best on this.
    I recently upgraded from cs3 to cs4, and noticed that some files are imported as 23min, wich is correct, but with a frame rate of 119,something. the source monitor also displays only a hand full of frames, which bothers me, because i need something in the middle of the file :-) I noticed there are a lot of forums on this subject, but came to the ones that know best, Adobe itself.
    I hope this can be solved. It's a fresh install, ae, pr and ph.

    Duitch, is that meant to be Dutch (nederlands) or Deutsch (german)?
    What files are you talking about? DOCX, XLS, AVI, M2V?
    Have a look here:  Some suggestions

  • CS3-style of placing the images inside frames in CS4.

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to find a way to have the cs3 - style of placing the images into frames in the new Indy CS4. I mean when I hit cmd+D and draw a frame I don't want any scaling / fitting of the placed image. I know there's no scaling if you drop an image into existing frame but when you draw one on-the-fly it's either the frame that keeps the proportions of the image or when you hold shift the image gets scaled to fit into.
    I'd rather have the old style placing as an option - but didn't find such a switch anywhere in the prefs.
    Thnx.
    R.

    Interesting request. I wouldn't have thought anyone would want the older way of creating images in frames, but I guess there's always someone who wants the old ways.
    I can't find any preference to restore the behavior back to the pre-CS4 way.
    But if you want to work with images the old way, you can. Your commands are just a little different, in a different order. But you may actually save a step.
    Consider:
    b In CS3 you had to do the following:
    1. Drag to create a frame.
    2. Switch to the Direct Selection tool.
    3. If desired, change the position the image inside the frame
    4. If desired, scale the image inside the frame
    5. If desired, use the Fitting commands to fit the image inside the frame.
    b In CS4 you have to do the following:
    1. Drag to create a frame.
    2. Switch to the Direct Selection tool.
    3. Scale the image inside the frame.
    4. Position the image inside the frame.
    However, step 5 is probably eliminated as you already started with the image fitting inside the frame.
    I agree no one likes to need to learn new work habits, but it's not such a big deal.

  • Export to tape, audio, or frame on CS4

    Hi;
    I just upgraded from PP2 to CS4 and I click Export, and I don't have the export choices for audio (export) or a frame.
    Also, will CS4 accept the projects I already have started in PP2?
    Thanks

    Be sure to see if you qualify for a free upgrade to CS5 (shipped yesterda).
    You can export audio or frames - the frame export option in CS5 is improved and you don't have to go thru AME
    Yes, CS4 will accept CS2 projects.

  • Assign text to a text frame Indesign CS4 JC

    Hi,
    I have a little challenge. I assigned text to a text frame many times, but the line wouldn't work now. Could you help me with it:
    try{
    var myNumber = app.activeDocument.selection[0];
    if (myNumber instanceof Rectangle){
        myNumber.fillColor = "White";
    catch (e){
    alert ("Please create and select Rectangle");
    exit();
    myNumber.contentType = ContentType.TEXT_TYPE;
    //myNumber = String ();
    myNumber.contents = "mamma";
    It wouldn't input my value into the frame (the pink line).
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Yulia

    //Try this
    if(app.selection.length>0){
        var myNumber = app.selection[0];
        try{
            if (myNumber instanceof Rectangle){
                myNumber.fillColor = "Paper";

  • Getting number of Words in a Frame in CS4

    Hello All,
    I am trying to get the number of words in a Text Frame. I tried the API GetWordCountInfo of ITextUtils
    For E.g. Utils<ITextUtils>()->GetWordCountInfo(  iTextmodel, 0,  iTotalLength, ITextUtils::kUpdateAll, ITextUtils::kStartCounting,
          wordStarted,  characters,   words,   paragraphs,  lines, oversetCharacters,  oversetWords,  oversetParagraphs, oversetLines,  bWordAcrossOverset,
          helper  );
    I am took the value of words and checked. I am getting value such as 2049679. Even though there is no text in the frame. Am not sure what wrong value I have given as a parameter required.
    Has anyone tried this before. Or Is there some other way of getting the word count from the frame. If so please do let me know.
    Thank you all in advance.
    Regards
    Farzana.

    Hi ,
    I have declared the parameters to the function as uint32.
    And when I see them in alert I am converting the same to int32 by using ToInt32(). I tried using uint32 appending directly as number to my string variable. But it gives same output in alert.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Farzana,

  • CS4 Problem with Matt and Frames

    Hi,
    I am new to CS4. I have CS4 Extended. I also have Photoshop Elements 6, which has a choice of a drop shadow Matt and a frame gallery with many examples to choose from. See Matt and Frame examples from Elements 6 applied to photos here:

    However, I cannot find any Mattes and Frames in CS4. Where are they located? Are they included CS4 at all?
    Please advise.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Den

    Other than a very few, I would say the frames detract from the art within, because the frame has more texture and depth than the art.
    Compositionally, areas of high contrast or fine texture or large shadows draw attention to themselves. This art is relatively flat and the frames seem more the subject than the art.
    I realize this is likely because the frames are canned from PSE and you may not have much choice other than the colors.
    Your initial post doesn't really ask a question, but I assume you are asking how to create similar frame effects within Photoshop as you can from Elements. Photoshop doesn't come with as many high-level things built-in from Adobe, but there are a wealth of plug-ins that extend Photoshop's capabilities, www.autofx.com is a place to look, or better yet, is to teach yourself how to accomplish things, by looking for tutorials or reading books.

  • CS4 editable master text frames in CS5 no longer editable

    Hi,
    Problem: Text frames on CS4 document pages (from locked text frames on masterpage) are no longer editable on CS5 document pages.
    CS4 situation:
    Masterpages contain text frames which are locked to prevent users from inadvertently moving them when working on document pages.
    On document pages, the text frames can be edited, i.e. text entered, but are position-locked.
    CS5 problem:
    When you now open the same document, the text frames on the document pages are totally locked, the positioning as well as the content. This means they are no longer editable! The only way I have found to make them editable once again is to unlock the text frames. But unlocking also removes the position lock.
    What do I have to do to get things working in CS5 like they were in CS4? Any quick solution or is this simply no longer possible?
    Confounded by InDesign once again...

    Yes, it works just like in CS4! Wunderbar!
    As I just had some trouble finding the where to change this setting,
    for anyone working with the German version of InDesign CS5:
    Menü: Bearbeiten > Voreinstellungen > Allgemein
    then under "Objektbearbeitung", remove the checkmark from "Auswahl von gesperrten Objekten verhindern"
    Thanks!
