Frames N/a for photo border in PSE plus

Hello, I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed once again PSE plus, . It does not give me access to the frame option under content. Although I have also downloaded the software on my macbook pro, that option is available . Why would I have a problem downloading the entire software with my desktop as opposed to my laptop?

Hi Jane
There are sometimes problems calling up the template from the media database. Why not design your own? It is possible to make a collage manually in Expert Mode and its quite easy.
Click File >> Open and select all of your photos
That will add them to the project bin
Then select File >> New >> Blank File
Select background color White (or whatever you prefer) and add your width and height for your final image (set resolution 72 for web usage or 240 to 300 for printing) then click OK
In the project bin click your first photo and drag it up into the main window on top of your new background.
Click on the move tool and click in the center of the photo and drag to arrange it where you want on the background - you can hold down the shift key to maintain original proportions whilst dragging the corner handles of the bounding box to get the size you want.
Do the same with the next photo (drag it up into the main window) and use the move tool to position it. Then continue with each image.
Finally Click Layer >>Flatten image and save as jpeg. (Save as PSD if you want to preserve the layers for editing again)
N.B. as you add images they get dropped in the center. So you need to use the move tool to drag them apart. Click in the middle of one and move it around, and then the others until you get them positioned as you want.
When you click again with the move tool a bounding box appears around the image and you can drag out the corner handles to re-size your photos. Hold down the shift key when dragging the corner handle and that will maintain the proportions of the original.
Finally click Layer >>Flatten Image and save your collage - you may then want to use the crop tool to cut away any surplus white canvas, and then re-save.

To find out where the current catalog folder is located, do Help > System Info.
The default locations for photos are under My Pictures on Windows 7, as compared to Pictures on Vista.

Lightroom Photo Border Bug ?

I have an issue where my Lightroom seems to display images correctly but once it sends them to the printer they get cropped differently. I did some digging around with the numbers and came to the conclusion that this is probably a bug or a feature that is implemented backwards. Basically what seems to create the problem is the "Photo Border" feature. When you add a border the image in Lightroom gets scaled down to compensate and that is what Lightroom displays. When printing however, the image is scaled back up to the size of the frame and the border is now masking it. Here are some images to demonstrate this:

Has anyone else run into this or can confirm that they get the same behaviour on their end ?

I'm not in front of my lightroom machine right now to check, but I would expect the display of the software to indicate what will actually be printed. The image is scaled down to conpensate for the border as far as the lightroom display goes, but it's not what the pdf preview before printing or the actual print reflects.

Custom package printing - photo border not printing

LR 3 on XP Pro, Epson 2400
I've created a custom print layout with 8 cells. The 'Photo Border' is ticked at 3.0pt and this shows up on layout.
When I print the page all the photos are borderless. Print to file shows no borders either.
Any clues as to why my borders aren't showing up ?

Thanks for reply. Are you sure you don't have 'inner stroke' ticked ? Your screenshot of Lightroom appears to show 2 borders, the white one and the dark coloured one. Your print from PS only shows the dark one.
I have an A3 page size with several cells. I have page colour of white ('Page Background Colour' unticked).
If I tick 'Photo Border' (and untick 'Inner stroke') then what I see on screen is each photo surrounded by a white border, with the border deliniated by a black line. When printing to paper or printing to file you cannot 'see' a border, because it's a white border on a white background. The black line that shows on screen doesn't print. If I overlap the photos I can clearly see a white border where one picture sits on top of another.
I am now presuming that the black line is only there to let you know there is a border you can't see and that it's not intended to print. Slightly counterintuative to me.
I suppose what I'm looking for is a frame rather than a border.
Actually now I think about it some more the black line I'm talking about is actually the bondary of the cell itself rather than anything to do with the border.

The DPI depends on the size of the image to be printed by the image file. A 639 x 960 image could print a 3.5 x 5 photo at 180 DPI. This website explains it further: The Myth of DPI.
So use the smaller photos only in the smaller frames on multiple photo layouts for best results.

I have used a photo as a background for a page. Hence, I want the photos I placed on top of it to have a simple, thin, white border. Is there a way to do this? I am using the stock white photo layout and customizing it because I am going to print through Blurb. Any tips are appreciated.

Underneath the Size & Position settings, there's another settings box called "Photo Border." Set the width, and then click the colour box to change it to white.

Can you drag photos/elements into PSE 9.0 on Mac

hello, I just switched to a Mac and am using PSE 9.0. Can you drag photos or elements into the project bin? I can't seem to figure it out and it's frustrating me, I could just open my files in my computer on my PC and drag what I wanted in. How do you do this on a Mac or do I have to open each one separately? thanks!! I'm a digi scrapper and it's driving me nuts!!

You can drag one photo into the workspace (not the project bin) if there's not another photo open, but for some reason in PSE 9 it stops working with additional photos. This is a PSE 9 bug, though, not the usual behavior of previous mac versions.

Adding color to photo border

In the print package (and now custom PP with LR3b), I'd like to have the ability to give the color I want to the photo border (as I can do for the Inner stroke).
By the way, I'd loke to have also the photo border in the "single image" too.

That's the easiest.
Open your full colour image.
Choose the Smart Brush tool I showed in my previous post.
On the Options bar for the tool,
hit the dropdown arrow (1).
Hit the effects dropdown box and choose "Black and White" (2).
Select "Grayscale" (3).
Set your brush to a small size.
Paint over the areas you want to be in Black & White. The brush automatically selects entire areas as you paint.
If it goes too far, set the brush to "minus"
and paint over the excess area to return it to the original colour.
The automatic selection kind of "learns" what you want, so by going back and forth between "plus" and "minus", you'll ultimately get what you want.

I am try to edit photo border/frame (color & stroke) in the Web Module.
This is not the thin lined rounded corner border around the whole plate.
Editing the drop shadow would also be nice.

Replying to myself.... I solved the problem by creating a new User Account in my OS. Solved the Lightroom problem and also a problem with Mini Bridge in Photoshop CS5, where it wouldn't open Bridge.

Want to delete FACE frames (i.e., remove photo's analyzed info)

I can't get rid of FACE frames. in a photo with many faces, face frames are a nuisance when i try to create focus frames for the pan and zoom tool. how do i delete them? clear all frames only gets rid of the FOCUS frames.
another way to ask the question is "how do i remove the analyzed data for a photo?"

Just starting my day.
I think we are now in sync with what you want to do with the Pan and Zoom Tool Frame Hints.
I have the Face Frames and Focus Frames doing what I want them to do, with and without deletion of an analyzed frame so that a Frame Hint is left. I guess you could think about those Frame Hints as an "AutoSave" of sorts if you change your mind after deletion of an analyzed frame.
One way to get them out of the question would be "do not use Face Frames" and do your pan from person to person by adding new frames beyond the pre-made 2 when you open the Pan and Zoom workspace. Those Frame hints are generated only when after you delete an analyzed Face frame...no Face frame, no analysis.
But, what I am doing now is looking for where the information for the Frame hints may be embedded. My best guess was that they are in the Notepad document of the saved/closed project in which you are using the Pan and Zoom Tool.
However this morning's test results argue against that. This has all the aspect's of People Face Recognition feature of the Pan and Zoom Tool Face Frame that is program related rather than specific to any one project. And, the Pan and Zoom Tool Face Frame is not generating any people thumbnails in the Elements Organizer People when Pan and Zoom Tool's Face Frame is going its thing.
I found a Face Dector.dll in the Program Files for Premiere Elements 12, but have not been able, so far, to link it with getting rid of the concept of Frame hint.

1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
