Frames suddenley not working

I am a teacher webdesign.
I used dreamweaver for 3 years, and stopped for 1 year.
Now I restart and I see that links in frames do not open in
other frame's, but they open a new browser window... am I the only
one with this problem?
If I make the frameset based on the samples in dreamweaver,
they work...

You teach web design?
If so, please tell me you don't teach your students to use
frames except to
warn them of the many pitfalls.

InDesign auto-size frame feature not working in real time in InCopy why?

We have just recently migrated from InCopy CS4 to CS6 to take advantage of the new features like the auto resize frame option, however it now seems that this feature is not working in real-time.
Basically the steps are needed to be complete before it auto-resizes the frame in InCopy, we use both layout and assignment based workflows:
1. From an ID document ('doc1'), exported a 'layer' to IC, certain frames are set to auto-size in height using the text frame options. So that editorial can review and make changes to text and the frame should resize according to the specifications set. IC stories are saved to a folder located in a content folder inside the top issue working folder.
2. Editorial opens the IC software, then opens the ID 'doc1'. Check’s out correct .icml file and makes edits to frame with auto resize.
3. Frame does not resize according to text frame set options and InCopy file does not respond in same fashion as InDesign.
4. Change only occurs when InCopy file is closed and updated in InDesign, which is frustrating as this feature would save huge amounts of time serving editorial requests.
Has anybody experienced this type of workflow problem? If anyone can provide mw with some pointers as to what can I do to get this to update in real time perhaps run a script? Update file in InCopy and refresh I will very much appreciate their assistance. I have run out of ideas.

We've had all sorts of problems with this feature as it should've worked straight out of the box but after some testing we have found that its something to do with the way you open the actual file in InCopy. Which is far from ideal and should have been UAT by Adobe before release.
This will not work consistently work if you open the designed .indd or .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application.
If you need this to work, the InCopy user has to open the .indd or .icma file by dragging and droping from OS windows explorer into InCopy, we use Windows 7 acrros all the teams. Check out .icml files add text changes to the set auto resized frames, this process will expand/collapse the frames to fit the content but as you have to use the drag and drop method to open the .indd and .icma file, 2 users cannot access the same time doc at the same time (a serious flaw in the programming architecture!) which stops people working in parallel. Save changes, check in .icml content and close .indd or .icma.
However the flaw comes in if you then open the .indd and .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application, before an InDesign user opens and saves the file (updates the design). The corrections added in the previous stage above, will not show the frames expanded/collapsed to take in the added text and instead show over matter???? The only way around this is to ask an InDesign user to open, update and save the design that way the InCopy user will see the same result no matter what file open method they use.
Another suggestion is to design the page to have some of the auto resize frames anchored within main body of text and that way the frames will expland/collapse when checking out and editing the content. However, this does cause issues with InDesign crashing etc. so we have tried to stop this method within the working group.

As far as we can see this is a major flaw in how the application(s) work, we have an enterprise agreement with Adobe and purchase a large volume of Adobe products globally but so far the technical support team are unable to find a solution to this and I'm not hopeful of any resolution soon even with the new release of Adobe CC.

Maximize frame key not working...

I am new to PPro. I made the switch over from Final Cut Pro. I like my quick keys from that application, so I set them up in PPro to be the same. that being said, I switched the"`" key to be my marker quick key and switched the "F" to be the key that Maximizes the current frame I am hovering my mouse over. I want this feature in order to be able to blow up the Program monitor when i am playing back my timeline for my director to view the rough or final cut of my project... However since I also setup my workflow with a custom setting, I have the Program monitor undocked so that I can size it and place it how I want it. For some reason when trying to maximize the program monitor frame with the modified quick key "F" it will not work. My timeline which is not undocked does work when the quick key is used. So what's the deal? is this just a bug that Adobe needs to fix, or am I missing something here...???

Hi Clint,
This does not have to do with changing your keyboard shortcuts this is by design to my knowledge. I'll see if I can get some more details.
Have you tried using the full screen feature? This is Ctrl+` by default. If your using the FCP shortcuts you will need to assign a command to it. It's listed in the Keyboard Shortcuts window as 'Toggle Full Screen'.

Basic invisible button movie clip frame actions not working, pls. help!

Hi,
I've got a basic little slide show player which is timeline-based, rolling through 5 images with alpha transitions, and on the topmost layer, I have 5 invisible movie clips which have actions applied to them as follows:
on (press) {
gotoAndPlay(21);
This action should allow for the on click button to navigate to that specific frame, or image, but for some reason it is not working.
Did I do something wrong? I feel like I've done this before but I'm rusty with Flash since I don't use it all the time.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

The invisible movie clip is something I know I've done over the years on many occasions - I'm not sure I'm understanding your alternate technique, can you explain it better? The way my movie clips are invisible is just by setting the alpha to zero in the properties for the movie clip instance (clicking on the object on stage, then setting it in properties)..
Also, the actions are on the invisible movie clips (buttons) and not the timeline.

Rollover frames will not work

I had many pages of our company's website set up to have a white frame appear when you rollover selected images. I did this using CSS and the behaviors panel. This method worked well for both the local and remote versions. I noticed lately that the remote version is no longer working, but the local version works just fine. I have tried modifying pages and synchronizing but nothing seems to work. The only change that I can think of is that I am administering the website from a different computer now. Any theory as to why the frames no longer work on the remote version of our website. The remote version is the important one because that is the one on the web.

I really don't understand your comments regarding cleaning-up the CSS. I do most all work from within the design view and I don't do direct code editing very often.
Do you drive a car without regularly checking the oil, coolant and tire pressure? I hope not. Working in Code View is essentially the same as looking under the hood of your car. You need to do it, and you should do it regularly.

TCS2 - Cross References between linked Frame files not working

Hi,
All the cross-references in my linked in FrameMaker 9 files work when output in PDF, however, when outputting WebHelp from RoboHelp 8, FrameMaker cross references that reference another FrameMaker file (i.e. not Current) do not work. The format is correct, they appear blue and underlined like every other link/cross-reference, but when moused over in the browser, there's no link to click. The HTML created by RoboHelp does not point to a file. For example, here's the HTML for one link not working as shown from within RoboHelp:

RoboHelp appears to partially convert the link as appears in the HTML but I think there should be more information in the <a> definition, such as in the HTML created for a link that references a topic created from the same FrameMaker file.

I've ensured all the cross-references in each framemaker file in the book have the same format and are mapped to <$paratext> in the project settings. I've also tried importing the FrameMaker book instead of linking it and the same problem persists.
Any ideas on how to make RoboHelp create the link correctly? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the major cross reference issues have been resolved in TCS 2 with further improvements in TCS 3.
Please ensure that you have all the patches of TCS 2 installed on your system.
If the issue is still there, there could be an altogether different reason for cross reference not working or the issue might have been fixed in TCS 3.
The reason or workaround can be analysed once the sample files with the issues are provided.
It will be great if you could share a small sample FM document containing the cross reference and target having the issue. If the cross reference is across documents, then a FrameMaker book along with its FM files can be shared in a zip format.

Frames / Target not working in Firefox

So, I am redesigning my website and have problems with
dreamweaver CS3.
I am using a 3 frame set up and in Firefox, the targets don't
read correctly.
They do work in Safari though.

In the current version of the site

incorporated the main menu into the left navi frame, so it has only
2 frames.
Now, I want to add more colorful icons and make the site
brighter, so I decided to make the main menu on the top and the
submenu (if applicable) on the left.
Can somebody figure out why in my current live site, the
targets work fine
and in the test site, they don't?
If you click on items in the left side navigation frame on
the test version, they open in a new tab or window but they are
meant to open in the right side frame. (This happens specifically
in Firefox)
• I looked into my firefox settings, but do not find a
reason why this happens. Looking at other websites that use frames
as well as my current live site, they work in Firefox so it must be
something on my side.
• When making the site, I also considered using
templates in order to rid myself of the frames but I found that
dealing with two editable/optional fields was exceeding my
capabilities...so I returned to frames.
• Googled around for solutions but found
nothing...help?
Have I possibly made mistakes when splitting the frames...no
clue here.
If anyone has any input, I'd be very glad!

K/L frame-by-frame moving not working

Hi all. Normally I can move frame by frame through the timeline by holding K while pressing L or J. But now whenever I press L or J when holding K it plays at normal speed, as though I pressed L/J without holding K. Must have changed a setting somewhere but can't figure out where. Anyone know how to fix?

Yes, David, I'm having the same problem under the same circumstances. we're using merged clips made from Prores QTs and multitrk BWF files. In the trim window, the display frame jumps ahead considerably in a frame-by-frame trim, but trims accurately in the timeline. My only work-around has been to use the left/right scrub arrows in the trim window when necessary, which displays the correct frame. Sorry not to have an answer, but I saw a post on another forum from 2007 that speculated it was an FCP 6 bug. Resetting prefs doesn't help.

Poster Frame will not work

After reviewing all of the suggestions here in the forum, I still cannot get Poster Frame to work.
Here is what I have done:
- Published to a Desktop folder and ran the index.html page to see if functionality worked. Did not.
- Trashed iWeb prefs, restarted, the repaired permissions. Still doesn't work.
- Published ALL to Mobile Me. Again won't work.
All I see is the Black frame while the QT file preloads.

In your topic I said that I had managed to get it to work by doing a "Publish All to MobileMe".
That was true but the movie was on an Albums template.
I tried it every which way just now using a movie page and a blank page and using Publish and Publish All.
I can't get it to work.
I have emailed the iWeb development team about this.

Box frame command not working from second page in scripts

Hi to All,
            I am getting problem when i am running the script program in SE38.
Problem is I need to get the output i(Header,main and footer) in box frame for all the pages.but in one page i am getting the Box frame for all three windows(header ,main and footer window).
             But from second page onwards i am not getting the Box frame for Main Window.
           could anyone could give the result.

This occurs typically when you puts BOXs commands on top of MAIN outside of any text element. It runs once, then is not executed any more. If you need the boxes on other pages you should put it inside a text elemente and make a WRITE_FORM with the proper EXPORTING ELEMENT for every page. But as you don't know when a new page is called... I really don't know how to solve it by this way.
My ususal solution is to have the boxes in a new window, supperpossed with MAIN, same possition and sizes. On this window you can put as boxes and lines as you want without a text element and it is going to be shown on every page.

Frame Offset not working

Hi all
I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on a dual 2.3 G5, OS X 10.4.9, QT 7.1.5, with a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Pro card (driver v6.1) component out to a broadcast LCD. I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB for audio with its latest driver (1.6.5) and "Medium Latency" out to powered monitor speakers.
I'm unable to get playback sync of sound and picture, and the Frame Offset (System Settings>Playback Control>Frame Offset makes no difference. Even at extreme settings the sync error remains the same (approx 2-3 frames).
I know I should be monitoring through the BlackMagic's SPDIF out, but I don't currently have any way to amplify that signal. I also know USB audio is probably asking for trouble, but this should work with the right offset, no?
Anyone shed any light?

You should be using audio that follows the video, else you'll get latency. Frame Offset is for those times when deck control might be off... certain HD signals and old rs422 caused this.
Your best bet is to figure out how to amplify the signal out of the decklink card.

Add Frame Hold not working in CC v8.1, Caravan

Premier Pro creates the freeze frame and it's visible in the timeline, but doesn't appear in the program or when rendered.
This also applies to Frame Hold actions created (successfully) in previous versions but now don't play.
Is there and on/off button I don't know about?

Hey KMueller - neat thinking.
Before reporting - I did try the drag / drop, then the import, then the media browser options and they all ended up the same.
Using your idea, I just straight forward made a copy / paste of the file in the folder it sits in, then dragged that over and hey presto - it came in with audio...
The icon representing the original file says video only still - but the icon representing the "copy" of the same file has a video & audio icon - and it plays ball on the timeline.

Freeze Frame Does Not Work Properly Please help

I have a sequence that will be cut into a master sequence consisting of six video tracks. When I invoke the Freeze Frame command, the resulting freeze frame only has the video from the bottom track (V1). This happens no matter where the playhead is when I select Freeze Frame. Even after rendering the sequence a Freeze Frame will only contain the video from the bottom track. Why???
FCP HD 4.5
Mac OS 10.3.9
QT 6.5.2
G4-500DP Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The Freeze Frame function targets the bottom most track with the AUTOSELECT button active. Autoselect is the gray box to the right of V1, V2, etc.
Are all your video tracks composited so that they are all visible at once? Then try nesting them, THEN making the freeze frame.

Updater for Frame 9 not working

Has anyone run across an error where FrameMaker 9 updates return an error message that the updater is "already running" and the update fails?
Fame is installed on Windows XP. We have tried:
rebooting the machine
checking for multiple instances in Task Manager (recommended in the knowledge base)
defragging the computer
uninstalling/reinstalling Frame
I've checked the forums and there are a few postings involving the same error message for illustrator updates and creative suite updates, however the solutions involve files and folders that don't exist in the version of updater that I'm seeing with just Frame 9
Any insite into this issue is appreciated.

I should have mentioned that Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Reader and RoboHelp are installed on the same machine.
I tried updating directly from the Adobe site, however the same error message appeared. I also tried turning off automatic updates for the other Adobe products listed by the updater, without success.

Cross-frame scripting is not working in Safari 3.0.4. Minimal example code.

I've found that cross-frame scripting is not working in Safari 3.0.4, as it worked
ok on Safari 3.0.1, and in other browsers I tried: Firefox, Mozilla, IE.
document.domain property is set to "ds2ps.net", correctly to the best of my knowledge
in the frameset and in both frames. Both frames and frameset are loaded
from subdomains of the same domain "ds2ps.net"
Please have a look at this mimimal example:

Press buttons to get alert with value of a variable defined in the frameset
and in the first frame.
This gives "undefined" in Safari 3.0.4, and give following message in Safari
JavaScript console:
Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://frameset.ds2ps.net/frames-test/frameset.html from frame with URL http://frame2.ds2ps.net/frames-test/frame2.html. Domains, protocols and ports must match.
Works ok in all other browsers and in earlier versions of Safari.
Apperently, I'm doing something incorrectly.
I would appreciate if Apple Safari developers have a look at this problem and suggest solution.
My company is developing web application which depends on cross-frame scripting,
and we would like to continue supporting Safari browser.
