Frames? yes or no?
I've put my site together using frames and I like the
navigation of it; thumbs at the bottom that when you click on any
indiviual one, a bigger image pops up in the central frame
http://www.owlphotography.com/travel_port/travel_portpage.htm
I'm new to this whole web design thing and now-after having
spent months putting together my site using frames-I'm told that
frames are "old school," looked down upon by other designers, and
if a website is made with frames then search engines can't find it.
do you think this is true? Is there an alternative to having
the same format that I have in my website but not use frames? Can I
do it using Dreamweaver?
Thanks in advance!

Oh - and another thing - sorry ;-) your home page is rather
too large:
all those thumbnails at the bottom are about 22k each - x 20
that 440k
plus the main picture at 187k and total page 1.5M - it should
be much
much smaller.

How did I quickly do this
I use Firefox with the development too

Sorry to be negative - but you did ask !

Box containing text and image (fit frame to contents).
Hi all,
The best way I can describe what I am trying to achieve is to show you a picture.
So essentially, I'm looking to create a grey box, containing some text with an image floating to the right hand side. I want about 2mm space (padding) inside the grey box so no content goes right to the edge and I want the text to wrap around the image. The bit I'm finding tricky is when I go to use the 'Fit frame to content' option. I'm trying to remove the space indicated by the red arrows but if I anchor the image inside the text frame, the grey box shrinks to the height of the text and the image overflows.
This would be incredibly simple to achieve on the web, am I doing something wrong?
Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.Sorry, been out for an hour.
I understood that you want to have some variable height text frame (the gray box), and that this box should reduce in height to fit the text contained therein, but not less than necessary for the bottom to be 2mm below the bottom edge of the variable height image (which I'm presuming is anchored to the first line of text in the frame) in a case where there is not sufficient text for fit frame to content to avoide making the frame shorter than the bottom of the image.
I believe this could be scripted, but that will still require you to run the script. You should ask over in InDesign Scripting
As far as a container that holds both text and image frames, yes, but only if you "paste into" a new frame after creating the two separately and grouping, which probably is not what you have in mind. -
I am using iSCSI for backup to disk. The target is SUSE 10 and initiator
is NW 6.5 sp7. The speed isn't so great, so I'm trying to make sure I've
got Jumbo frames setup properly. I've added the switch Jumbo=9000 to my
netinfo.cfg file, as per a post here by Massimo from 15-Aug-2007.
So the load network card line looks like this:
LOAD B57 NAME=B57_1_EII_EII FRAME=Ethernet_II SLOT=10019 Speed=AUTO
RxBuffers=200 Jumbo=9000
But when I look in Monitor > LAN/WAN Drivers the Jumbo Packet Size
(bytes) still reads 0. So, I don't think I'm getting Jumbo frames happening.
I've also set the following:
TCP delayed acknowledgement =on
tcp nagle algorithm=on
tcp minshall algorithm=on
set tcp maximum inital receive window = 64
and in startup.ncf
set maximum physical receive pacet size = 1800
Can anyone help me figure this out?
Thanks,

Yes the target is doing jumbo frames. I set the MTU to 9000, and the
Windows box saw a good improvement on speed.
Here's the netinfo.cfg file.

a varying number of JInternalFrames.
I just want to draw onto the

Do i place a large JPanel as a child in the JInternalFrame class?
To i draw directly to the desktop?I just want to draw onto the JInternalFrames.what exactly do you mean by this? do you want to draw 'inside' the frames or on top of all frames?
Do i place a large JPanel as a child in the JInternalFrame class?if you want to draw inside the frame, yes
To i draw directly to the desktop? if you want to draw on top the frames, yes

Hello.
We're running a NW6.5.8 machine on a HP Proliant ML350 G3. The server works
well since several years. Three weeks ago the server makes some problems.
After restarting the machine the memory runs low after 3 or for days. I
can't see a reason for this.
Do you have an idea for this?
Here is my config.txt of this machine:

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be
used
; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to
; configure the DA.
; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA <addr type>,
<addr>'.
; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type.
Currently, only
; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr is
; the address specified.
; The following is an example of a static DA.
; DA IPV4, 130.1.1.1
; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all
services
; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For example,
; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to scope
"printer".
; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "<type name>" to SCOPE "<scope
name>"'.
; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords followed
by quote on
; a single line. Example:
; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon
specifies a
; comment.

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA.
A semi-colon
specifies a
; comment.

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be used
; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to
; configure the DA.
; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA <addr type>, <addr>'.
; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type. Currently, only
; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr is
; the address specified.
; The following is an example of a static DA.
; DA IPV4, 130.1.1.1
; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all services
; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For example,
; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to scope "printer".
; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "<type name>" to SCOPE "<scope name>"'.
; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords followed by quote on
; a single line. Example:
; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon specifies a
; comment
DA IPV4, xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
DA IPV4, xx.xxx.xxx.xxx SCOPE "SLP_xxxx"

How to add an image/graphic to a form webpage?
Dear All,
When we execute our Oracle Forms application, it opens in a webpage with a white background. This looks too bland.
Is there a way we can add an image/graphic to the webpage to improve its look and feel? Please suggest.
Thanks,
AmitHello,
You have two tags in the /forms/server/formsweb.cfg file to put images in the background:
splashScreen=no
background=noreplace the NO value by a .GIF or JPG existing file name on the server.
You can also hide the blank page (when separate frame=yes) as soon as it dosplays with the following in your concerned section:
HTMLbodyAttrs=onLoad='javascript:self.moveTo(2000,2000)'Francois -
Hi,
i'm trying to create an animation in photoshop. It's a sort of spiral shape that appears bit by bit.
I'm drawing different frames, but each frame is build onto the previous frame. So i don't have to redraw to part that came before the new part:
So first i drew all the different frames (yes they have transparent backgrounds). Then I selected all layers and went to window > animation. Here I made frames from all the layers and converted it to a frame animation. here I selected all frames and selected " do not dispose" because I want all the previous frames to stay visible when a new frame appears.
Then I did export >render video
file options:
image sequence: photoshop
range: all frames
render opt: straight
frame rate: 20fps
Now I get all the different layers as PSD files. After this I imported the files in after effects:
file>import >multiple files
import as: footage, photoshop sequence, merged layers
this gives me a single animated file with all the frames behind each other. But the "do not dispose" option has no effect here. I just shows all the different frames, but it disposes all previous frames. Instead of this as a final frame:
I get this:
Can someone help me with this? I'm kinda new to animation. An image sequence is an image sequence is an image sequence. AE does not care for specifics of PS' internal animation system and that is that. I'm also not clear why you choose to import as multiple files. A simple image sequence surely would do the trick?!

Visual basic 6.0 with PCI-CAN series 2
Hi all,
I'm a newbie in CANOPEN, hopefully I can get some guidance to start off the application development.
Basically I wished to develope a simple VB program to move/stop the motor at different speed and to monitor the position.
There is only 1 master which is the PCI NI-CAN and 1 device. The device which is the servo amplifier is Kollmorgen S600.
http://www.maccon.de/fileadmin/FTPROOT/s400600can_e.pdf
During the amplifier boot up, I'm able to receive 0x81h 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 at both the MAX's bus monitor and the NI's Frame API, thus ensuring that the baud and hardwares are correct.
I wished to perform a "SDO-READ" and "SDO-WRITE" using the Frame API as followed :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/rainman1978/sdoexample.jpg
The Frame API VB software example given has this abiturary ID, data length, remote frame (YES/NO) and extended frame (YES/NO). In the write procedure it has :
Transmit.Data(0)=&H0
Transmit.Data(1)=&H1
Transmit.Data(2)=&H2
Transmit.Data(3)=&H3
Transmit.Data(4)=&H4
Transmit.Data(5)=&H5
Transmit.Data(6)=&H6
Transmit.Data(7)=&H7
etc etc followed by its standard ncwrite procedure.
I made change to the transmit datas.
Transmit.Data(0)=&H40
Transmit.Data(1)=&H41
Transmit.Data(2)=&H60
Transmit.Data(3)=&H0
Transmit.Data(4)=&H40
Transmit.Data(5)=&H0
Transmit.Data(6)=&H0
Transmit.Data(7)=&H0
There isn't any response back from the amplifier and I bet the frame format must be wrong.
This is what I observed from the NI SPY when I send out the data. (when VB set to ID 5 and data length set as 8)
05 00 00 00 00 08 00 00 41 60 00 40 00 00 00 (something likethis, which I couldn't relate at all)
Thanks. Hope I can get a wake up call to this complicated bus protocol.
Regards,
Rainman

Transmit Receive same Port.zip 5 KBGot it!!!
To all that will try to use the VB6 application:
In the LabView examples the COB ID default is in hex, and in the VB examples the COB ID default is dec !!! The GUI of the 2 examples (VB & LabView) is exactly the same but it will not work unless you use the correct COB-ID.
So, for example, if you want to use the labview example and you want to enter the ID 601: you Enter 601 in the ID text box.
However, if you want to use the VB6 example with the same ID you need to insert 1537 (=601 hex!!)
I hope that with this post I will save some people the 3 days that it took me to find this!

Close the browser Mozilla automatically
Hello,
I work on forms 10g Oracle10g IAS 10 g.I launches the application on Mozilla firfox 3.0 with separate Frame = yes.when I want that the browser closes automatically when i press exit button.
I solved it with Internet Explorer by creating a page in Close.html ias \ tools \ web \ html that contains this code:
<html>
<head>
<script LANGUAGE="javascript">
window.opener=self;self.close();
</script>
</head>
</html>
and then I put in when the button pressed to leave this code:
web.show_document ( '/ forms / html / close.html', '_self');
it works very well with Internet Explorer but it works with mozilla not, it remains open page close.htmlgoogling for firefox and self.close();
i found the following statement:
To close a window not opened with JavaScript you have to change the Firefox options...
url "about:config"
set the value of "dom.allow_scripts_to_close_windows" to truedidn't try myself. -
Capturing to DVD Recorder, etc...
I was wondering if this is a viable option for capturing my videos to my project. I have so much problem with dropped frames when capturing via FCP and so I would like to capture the footages straight to my DVD recorder (at the highest rec quality, of course) then I rip that into my computer (then convert Video_TS folder into DV, whereby I then import it into my project in FCP). Has anyone done that before? It's a little longer process and sacrificing some blank DVDs but 100% no dropped frames, for sure, with that route. However, I was wondering if I would also sacrifice the quality of the clips when it finally arrives at FCP?
Note: My External HD is probably my problem for "dropped frames"Yes, they're 7200s but I think they need to be initialized. I've had them for a year and really took the mileage out of 'em. One of them is giving me problems - doesn't mount sometimes when computer boots on. Unfortunately, that's the one I'm using most of the time (LaCie 1T). Would initializing it with Disk Utility good enough or am I looking at another repairing software to do this?

Displaying thumbnail images in another panel when it mouse clicked
hi,
I am using JAI, what i am trying to do is i am decoding the tiff file and creating thumbnail of that images and adding thumbnail images to one panel and enlarged images to another panel using DisplayJAI. Now when i will click i thumbnail images on left panel then that image should be display to another panel on right side. Adding both panel to JSplit panel.
I have no idia how to do it, i tried to do in different way but not able to do that. I hope anybody can give me the hints about this.
Thanksi am adding thumbnail of all images in left panel and enlarged view of each thumbnail is added in right panel , and what i require that when i click thumbnail in left side it's corresponding enlarged image should be visible, suppose in right panel page no. 1 is visible and when i click thumbnail of 13 page in left panel that should be in viewport of right panel. You should put your right panel inside a JScrollPane and call [scrollRectToVisible() |http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/swing/JComponent.html#scrollRectToVisible(java.awt.Rectangle)] from your panel. You can put the rectangles corresponding to enlarged images in a hash map with the keys being some unique attribute of your thumbnails in left panel. That will help in getting the rectangle to make visible, real fast. Or, you can just put the rectangles in some array indexed according to the thumbnails in left panel.
I also want to hide the left panel, i think it's possible by Frame.Yes it is possible, but you said you have both your panels in a split pane, so maybe you can use its setDividerLocation() function to hide your left panel.

Stop(); within movieclip doesn't work and all my other code doesn't run
Hey guys,
I've got a movieclip which has the code stop(); written within it, so that it doesn't play unless i interact with it. What happens now is that when i run the swf file, the entire movie keeps looping, and all my other code just doesn't run.
I've named my instances buyButton and so on but yeah, somehow it just ignores all my code and just loops. Help!Hi Ned,
In the main timeline it's just one frame yes. So on my main timeline there is a movieclip. Within that movie clip is an animation that adjusts the 'shine' on it. That animation is 20 frames long and i put a stop(); on the first frame inside that movieclip, with the intention that when i publish the swf, the movieclip doesn't loop, but should stop on the first frame. Only if i start to move my cursor over the movieclip, then it has feedback, which is to play the 'shine' animation. That sorta thing. So i had some code in the actionscript layer which edits the text property of the movieclip and it changes from "Click to Buy"(as shown in the screenshot) to "Buy a Shirt!".
However, when i publish the swf file, the other code, like the one which changes the text property of the movieclip is ignored and also the stop(); function within that movieclip too. And i end up having a movieclip which constantly loops within itself. Other code which i put in, like setting the buttonMode = true and useHandCursor = true are also ignored. The odd thing is that there are no error in my output window. and my publish settings are set to use Actionscript 3.
EDIT: sorry i used my other account on this haha -
Movie Clip Heiarchy Help!
I have a timeline where each frame has a different movieclip.
each of these movieclips have 5 specific frames inside them. I can
jump between frames on the main timeline by doing this;
this._parent.gotoAndStop(2); this brings me to the first
frame of the movie clip.
but if i want to do the same thing but go direcly to the 5th
frame in said movieclip what do I do?klocascio,
> I have a timeline where each frame has a different
movieclip.
> each of these movieclips have 5 specific frames inside
them.
I'm with ya so far.
> I can jump between frames on the main timeline by doing

>

That part confuses me. Where is that line of ActionScript?
If the code
appears in a keyframe of the main timeline itself -- and if
you wanted to
move the main timeline's playhead -- you could use this:
this.gotoAndStop(frame number here);
That fact that you're prefixing the MovieClip.gotoAndStop()
method this
this._parent means your code must be inside a keyframe of the
first of your
movie clips. But I'm not sure how gotoAndStop(2) would take
you to the
first frame. Second frame, yes.
> but if i want to do the same thing but go direcly to the
5th frame
> in said movieclip what do I do?
The frame you want to jump to is determined by the number
you feed in as
a parameter. gotoAndStop(5) takes you to frame 5. The
question of *which*
timeline should be jumped around depends on a) your object
reference (e.g.
this, or this._parent, or an instance name) and b) the
location of the code
making the reference.

After Effects 5.5 Clone Stamping Tool, running sluggish
I'm learning to use CS 5.5 and after effects and am currently editing a video to take out product numbers on different machines in the video. I've made it to about 20 seconds in my video but everytime I try to seek forward to make changes it takes forever and I see a status bar loading each time I switch Frames (it has to load each frame I seek through and there is over 2000 frames). At this rate it'll take forever just to edit a few product numbers out of a 1:20 (1min 20 sec) video.
I'm not sure if its just some settings I need to tweak or if I'm going about it the wrong way.
The machine I'm running is a hp z600 workstation with 2 xeon quad cores and 12 gbs of RAM with a 2gb video card, so I'm sure the PC isn't the issue.
Any feedback would be appreciated or any tips on editing would be greatly appreciated.
Josh
also, is there a way to only have the edited areas be visible for certain frames, as the parts in the video move, and once they move there is globs of color where I stamped over the product numbers
thanks againNo offense, but you seriously need to learn AE's basics first. You're treating it like you were working in Photoshop or like an edit suite, depending on what you want it to be most for the moment, but none of that reflects actualyl what AE is - a compositing program. Let me clarify:
everytime I try to seek forward to make changes it takes forever and I see a status bar loading each time I switch Frames (it has to load each frame I seek through and there is over 2000 frames).
Yes, almost nothing in AE is realtime. That's why people need to create RAM previews for realtime playback. Perfectly normal and in your case you are probably complicating the situation by using compressed formats where in order to show a given frame, several additional frames before and after need to be decoded. Fuirthermore, you may simply work off a slow drive.
The machine I'm running is a hp z600 workstation with 2 xeon quad cores and 12 gbs of RAM with a 2gb video card, so I'm sure the PC isn't the issue.
As per above - it likely isn't, but it's your wrong perception of AE and your wrong approach to the matter.
also, is there a way to only have the edited areas be visible for certain frames,
Yes, you split and duplicate layers. pelase refer to the online help for basic procedures on layer management
