Framing Behavior...Definitely buggy

Just posting to see if anyone else is dealing with their machine bogging down after adding a framing behavior to a camera. As soon as I added just one, I started getting the beachball every few seconds whenever I tried to do anything in Motion. As soon as I removed the framing behavior, everything went back to normal. I've seen similar posts about this. Anyone else have a workaround that doesn't involve just giving up and keyframing everything on a camera. This is frustrating as I just spent an afternoon trying to figure this problem out. These new features are cool but the bugs just keep rolling along which wastes a bunch of time. Thanks.
(Motion 4, 2007 MP QUAD, 13G RAM, 10.6.2)

Ok, got some major bugs today with a project. I noticed a few things.
My file was perfect for a few days. I had about 8 framing behaviors and they all worked flawlessly.
To add some realism/dimension I added a small sweep between each framing behavior.
That was the end of it. I started getting some major beachballing, 20-30 second stalls, crashing, 9 hour renders and crashes. Super fun.
On the last crash I took a look at the thread that crashed it. It was a HeliumRender and Ozone Framework call that ended up bringing motion down. I dunno what that means, but that's the thread that crashed it.
I opened the project back up to remove the sweeps and it immediately was bogging my system down to where I couldn't even uncheck the sweep behaviors. Complete meltdown. I can't even fix the issue now. My GPU is whirring like a bandsaw.
So this is very clearly a camera calculation issue (to me). It also is a pain because I can't seem to get it to back out of the issue. It's sort of just ******** now. I guess I can delete the camera and start over but that's a major issue in it's own right. So, why does the file seem corrupt now? What gets stuck? Why cant I just remove a few behaviors and have it go back to normal? That's what I don't get. It's like theres a camera move file that needs to be updated.
Any conclusions as to how to back out of this situation? From a professional standpoint I never like it when software causes me to limit my creativity or miss deadlines, or waste my time. I'm trying to cool down here, but this is a major pain.

  • Anyone here use the Camera / Framing behavior?

    I have a project with a few video clips in a 3d group. When I set one of the clips as the target of a camera's framing behavior, it doesn't frame the target. Rather, something waythehell off in z space. Sometimes the framing does catch the right target, but on export or re-opening the file it won't be aligned. These framing behaviors are assigned to one camera, not overlapping in the timeline. Bug or human error?

    I can't be exactly sure this is your problem (not enough info,) but I have been able to recreate the problem you're describing, somewhat.
    Here's the deal -- Framing behaviors need to be "discreet". By this, I mean they should not overlap each other. If you have 2 or more framing behaviors on 2 or more clips (which play at the same time, or IN the same time) and they all exist for the entire durations of the clips, Motion is going to try to do them all at once... and that can lead to the middle of space sometimes ( ) [cross-positioning leads to averaging of values].
    Anyway, the other thing that has to happen is that the framing behaviors must be stacked in order, the lowest occuring earliest and the highest to be the last.
    You can use I and O to create trim points for just the behaviors and slide them into the time positions at which they need to start.
    Once all the framing behaviors are separated into their own "time" and stacked in order of "play" then all your framing problems should resolve.
    The thread you referenced has nothing to do with any of this, and if that was an issue in a former release of Motion (version 4 judging by the date), it seems to have been fixed (default transition is set to Constant now and seems to work quite well.)

  • Framing Behavior - Why does it stop in the middle?

    My camera Framing Behavior is about 40 frames long, yet the motion ends at 20 frames. No matter the length of the behavior on the timeline, the motion always ends at the half way point. Do I have something set wrong? Is there a way to override this?

    Common issue.  A screen shot of the settings in the Inspector would have actually helped more.  But here's what I suspect.  Look at the Behavior settings in the Inspector.  Be sure the "Position Transition Time" and "Position Rotation Time" are at 100%.  For some wacko reason they defult to 50%.  This means they operate at only 50% of the total behavior duration in the Timeline.  It is a handy parameter to have when needed, but they shouldn't default to 50%.  Set them to 100%, you'll be fine.

  • Motion camera behaviors not saving or exporting correctly

    I love this program.  For $50 it is amazing.
    But, I am having issues.
    I have a pretty processor heavy project with two replicators running video and a camera doing zooms, sweeps, etc.
    I can set up the project exactly how I want it, Save, Close. When I open it back up tomorrow I have issues with Camera behaviors not completing their cycle. They were flawless when I exited the program and now when I open back up its as if they are missing some of their data and just stop mid-behavior.
    Example: when using a "Framing" behavior it will start its zoom out but not finish it.
    Seperate issue.
    When I export the project as H.264 or ProRes 422 (or any export), Motion is not performing the behaviors as it did previously.
    I can RAM preview the project and everything looks just fine on playback.  Then I export--when QuickTime opens it and I play it back to check it--the video make it somewhere in the middle and a camera behavior doesn't complete its zoom out.  How can the export be different if the RAM preview is fine and I change nothing????
    Motion crashes all the time too which is super frustrating.  Man it is such a great piece of software though.....

    Anyone encounter & resolve this issue?
    Framing behaviors align perfectly on their targets during playback and RAM renders in the canvas, but are consistently misaligned in any "Share" renders. I've tried it with "Export..." and various "Apple Devices..." settings. Incidentally, those do seem to work up until there are a few Framing behaviors on the same camera, (none of them overlap--  if / when they do conflict, the canvas preview is appropriately affected.) I can't work out which action causes the failure, but it will eventually happen in the canvas, too, if I work on the project long enough! Then the only recourse seems to be deleting the Framing behavior. Simply resetting its parameters does NOT correct the weird alignment. Subsequent targets are not framed correctly.

  • Restoring keywords that were deleted when moving from iPhoto to Aperture

    I recently migrated from iPhoto to Aperture, and this apparently involves losing a TON of metadata. One new discovery I've made is that for my older photos (i.e., ones added and edited a few years ago when I was using an earlier version of iPhoto), the keywords have been deleted.
    More specifically, if I have a photo and it has keyword X, then TWO copies appear in the Aperture library:
    - the original image, with the keyword "iPhoto original" AND the keyword X
    - the modified image, with only the keyword "iPhoto external edited"
    (Note that I have not used any external editors; this is just how iPhoto seems to interpret images that were edited with older versions of iPhoto)
    This is definitely buggy behavior.
    This means that if I have a "best-of" keyword and I make a "Smart" album, it gets filled with original, unedited versions of my "best of" photos.
    Is there any way to fix this without going one-by-one through THOUSANDS of older photos and manually copying the keywords from the original to the modified?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hope we get an answer - I'm in the same situation as you, though I just went from iPhoto to A2.x on an older G5 tower. I've been debating whether to take the time to go through them, reorganize "better" than they were under iPhoto or wait for a more elegant solution...

  • CC (14.x) Bugs

    I've got to the stage where I have to say something, because Photoshop CC is definitely buggy in my experience to date.  The one that annoys me the most is that I suddenly get stuck with a small brush tool that won't go away without restarting Photoshop.  I can be doing pretty much anything, and suddenly the tool I thought I was using turns into a small brush.  Thank goodness it lets me save the file before I have to restart Photoshop.
    I also get Photoshop freezing for about 30 seconds when nothing is happening.   It was impossible to embarrass my NLE system with CS6.  I couldn’t even make it lag, yet alone freeze.
    Am I alone with these particular problems?
    Message was edited by: Moderator. Please create a new post for Ps CC 2014 (15.0) issues. The OP for this thread had driver issues that fixed most of his issues with 14.x. thx!

    I mean no disrespect to you or your system, but if you're seeing crashes and others aren't, where would you imagine the problem is?  I'm not trying to assign blame here; I'm trying to help you find and fix the problem.  Who knows, it's possible that a particular hardware driver on your system isn't providing Photoshop what it needs.  Or maybe you just got a bad download.
    Photoshop demands a lot of a system.  Everything regarding the network, GPU, RAM, and disk I/O subsystems must work perfectly.
    Have you tried any or all of these things?
    Clear all of Photoshop's preferences to factory defaults.
    Change the Advanced preferences in the Performance panel to other settings.
    Change the amount of RAM Photoshop is allowed to access.
    A full removal and reinstall.
    That your system failed to install several times from the Creative Cloud application is an indication that you may have had some kind of errors occur during download.  Anyone could imagine that a downloader ought to be fully protected by a hash or CRC or something, and that's certainly how I'd program it, but we just don't know.  Maybe there WAS some kind of download failure.  It's a bigass file, most of a gigabyte.  Perhaps you could try to download the installer separately for Photoshop CC 2014 and check the MD5 hash.  Such a download is possible through following a procedure listed on the ProDesignTools.com web site.
    You've already been asked to provide more info than you have (Help - System Info).  Why have you not done so?  If you'd like to explore more possibilities to try to get Photoshop to work with other users who have made it work right, are expert in both Windows and Photoshop setup, and are willing to help you for free, this is the place.  Start a new thread and provide detailed info.  If you're just here to complain, you've already done that - I hope it made you feel better.

  • Internet stops

    For some reason my macbook just loses its internet connection. I have it conneted to a 2wire wirless router and it says it has connection to that just no internet after awile but if I restart it it has it for a bit than loses it again. It dosnt lose its wirless tho. The only thing Iv done that I could think that cause this is the update. (works perfect in xp cuz thats what I used to post this) New to mac so any help is good.

    Well that can't be good. This random restart behavior definitely warrants an applecare telephone call (just stating the obvious)

  • Text square with other objects in a layer

    Using Motion 4. I have a 3d scene with various layers. Each layer contains objects that are oriented differently. I'm trying to add text to one of those layers. But the text is oriented square to the screen instead of being oriented square with the other objects in that layer. How can I orient the text square to the other object. I could try to do it manually but I'm sure there is a way to do this automatically.
    Thanks

    I did find a way to do this, although I'm sure there is an easier technique I don't know about. I used the camera framing behavior to bring the layer square with the camera. Then I added the text to the layer. Finally, I removed the Camera Framing behavior to go back to the original view. No so simple but it works.

  • ICS Update not reading SD Card

    I updated to ICS today and when I go to my photo gallery it says that there are no photos available. I was worried that somehow all my photos got wiped out. I loaded the sd on my pc and all of the photos are still there. Why is my phone now no longer displaying my pics in the gallery? Anyone else having this issue? Is there a new way to view these photos? please help!

    I'm having a pretty similar problem also.. It randomly does not connect to my sd card. Sometimes when I go into apps it will show "no apps" on the internal external sd card. If I hit "running apps" it seems to kick the apps into gear then they show up. But it's definitely buggy as to when it recognizes apps. And my battery life and ram have definitely gotten worse with the update. Also I just got the update a couple days ago. I'm pretty happy with it other than those few things. Oh and it also took away my contacts Facebook pics off my Handcent messaging and go contacts apps which is pretty disappointing. I hope they come up with a resolution to some of these issues.

  • Firewall blocks ssh since Sept 12 update

    I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 running Lion 10.7.1 (11826). Since the "Security Update 2011-005" yesterday morning (Sept 12), the firewall does not allow incoming ssh connections, even though "remote login" is enabled in the "Sharing" preferences pane, and the firewall config page under "Security & Privacy" shows that "Remote Login (SSH)" is set to "Allow incoming connections". I do this all the time, and the behavior definitely changed with yesterday's update.
    To be clear, with the firewall turned off, I am able to ssh into the machine from another machine on the local network. When I turn the firewall on, despite the options set as described above, I am unable to make an ssh connection. This worked before yesterday's update. I think that Apple broke something with the update.

    Okay, I just found out you have to query anchor rules with a special switch (-a).
    I just found out there is no entry for SSH which should read something like

  • Functions from Module Scoping Question

    Hello,
    I have the following case:
    I`m using module that contains several functions, some of them are executing commends in remote sessions. These functions are used from Powershell Script.
    The issue is that when function refers to variable from the local computer using the “$Using:var” syntax, it does not tries to access the variables that is defined in Script scope.
    The exception is:
    “Invoke-Command : The value of the using variable ‘$using:var’ cannot be retrieved because it has not been set in the local session.”
    This behavior is not reproduced when the functions are defined in the Script. I`m aware that Modules have their own “Scope”(or Context or whatever…), so I suppose the behavior is by design
    I`m able to workaround it in two ways:
    Using the “$Using:global:var” syntax in the script block or dot source the script.
    However it`s not so appropriate for my purpose.
    My Question is:
    Can I force the Functions that comes from Module to behave the same way as if they are defined in the Script.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.
    Some examples:
    Module content:
    function Main
    param
    $sb2
    $ses = New-PSSession -ComputerName sof-srv01
    Execute -ses $ses -sb $sb2
    function Execute
    param (
    $sb,
    $ses
    Invoke-Command -Session $ses -ScriptBlock $sb
    Export-ModuleMember Execute,Main
    Script content:
    $var = ‘winrm’
    $scr = {Get-Service $using:var}
    Main -sb2 $scr

    You're wrong as always: there's such a thing as DOT SOURCING MODE when using Import-Module.
    Finally, you must know by now, that your post above is plain RUBBISH.
    In other words, you are a complete PowerShell ignorant ( probably, you are a good rubbishellian ).
    Surely, you re-read your BUGGY bug report https://connect.microsoft.com/PowerShell/feedback/details/828782/functions-in-script-modules-do-not-inherit-variables-from-the-scope-of-their-caller.
    Now, someone posted how-to-do-it ...
    I have no idea WHERE and WHY you got these three letters: m, v and p...
    P.S.: How do you dare to post your rubbishell concepts in my reports? Leave my posts
    clean!
    Well, at least you finally had the guts to post what you meant by "Import-Module in DOT SOURCING MODE".  As expected, it's garbage.
    As you've pointed out, when you pass a path to a .ps1 file to Import-Module, it recognizes that a .ps1 file is not a module, and just dot-sources the script to load its contents instead.  (And as you pointed out in your report on connect, this behavior
    is buggy.  Microsoft probably shouldn't have included it at all, and just had Import-Module produce an error if you try to point it as a non-module file, but whatever.  The functionality is there now.)
    Any discussion of Script Modules has nothing do with dot-sourcing a ps1 file, regardless of whether you did it yourself, or called Import-Module.  Script Modules are psm1 files, and when they are imported, it happens in a very different way than when
    a script is dot-sourced.  Modules get their own session state which is separate from the main PowerShell session (except for the Global scope, which is shared by everything).  That separation of session state is what leads to the types
    of problems the OP posted here.
    Now that you've finally owned up to what you were talking about, it would appear that your proposed solution is to stop using Script Modules, and just dot-source ps1 files instead.  Have fun with that.

  • What is the best camera technique to use for this project?

    hi, im making a small thing for my gf on motion. i have it so that certain text appears along with pictures. i want the camera to pause momentarily to read what it says and then begin moving to the next set of text/pictures, then stop there for a little while too, then go on to the next one, etc etc.
    whats the best way to do this? the pictures/text are NOT in a straight line so making the camera go straight through wont work. one might be directly in front of the camera then i will have made the next set to be directly downward so i want the camera to swoop down there and pause on them, then the next set might be straight up all the way at the top etc. how can i get the camera to move then pause, move then pause over and over where i want it to until the project is over?
    sorry if this is a noob question but i have no idea
    thanks!!

    What version of the studio are you using?
    In Motion 3 you could try keyframing the camera move , the zoom layer behavior, or Move behavior.
    If you've got Motion 4, try the Camera Framing Behavior.
    There are several ways to accomplish what you want to do, it really comes down to what you are most comfortable with.

  • Report "Display Text (Based on LOV)" columns don't like colons - Bug?

    This is a bit hard to explain in text, so I've built a sample app: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=9608:1
    The app has two pages, which demonstrate two related bugs in the handling of Report "Display as Text (based on LOV)" columns.
    Basically, if the LOV query returns a string that contains colon characters (":") in the display column, the values are matched up correctly, but the colons are stripped from the display.
    If the LOV query returns a string that contains colon characters in the return value column, then the matching fails entirely.
    Removing the colon characters eliminates the problem.
    We actually ran into this in a production environment, after an upgrade from Apex 3.0.0 to 3.2.1. The behavior definitely did not occur in Apex 3.0, but was added at some point between the two versions.

    The colon is actually part of our data (the field in question is a URN namespace).
    And yes, I understand the function of the colon in Apex URL parameter passing. However, I wouldn't expect that sort of parsing to be used against the results returned from an LOV query.
    Also, the LOV is fine in of itself -- a select list based on the LOV displays & returns the expected values. It's only when I use a report column based on an LOV that this behavior creeps in.
    We've found a (fairly painful) workaround -- altering both the report query and the LOV query to to do something like replace(column, ':', '_') -- but that's a manual change to a large number of pages for us.
    This behavior is new to version 3.2.1. It didn't happen in version 3.0.

  • Chaining of eventListeners BUGS with Loader

    My goal is to load numerous images to be displayed in an AIR application. For this I use the following code. The counter counts the number of times each event is triggered. The problem is that loading 1024 images:
    -  in the onLoadingComplete function the counter finishes at 1024... this is fine
    -  in the onParsingComplete function the counter finishes at various numbers (412, 405, 380...) different at each run
    - nothing goes wrong with less than around 500 images, all are loaded
    My assumptions:
    - 'complete' event not triggered if image content is the same (I am using 8 copies of 128 different images)
    - loaders have a concurrency problem
    - eventListeners asynchronous behavior is buggy
    ANY IDEAS, FEEDBACK ? Should I file a bug ? (by the way I am using Flex 4 on a mac)
    for each( var file: File in files ) {
         if ( ! file.isDirectory && file.extension == "jpeg" || file.extension == "jpg" || file.extension == "png" ) {
         var urlLoader: URLLoader = new URLLoader( );
         urlLoader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.BINARY;
         urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadingComplete );
            urlLoader.load( new URLRequest(file.url) );
    private function onLoadingComplete( e: Event ):void
         var dispLoader: Loader = new Loader( );
         dispLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, onParsingComplete);
         dispLoader.loadBytes( e.target.data );
         //counter++ --> here end up with counter = 1024
    private function onParsingComplete( e: Event ):void
         var img: BitmapImage = new BitmapImage( );
         img.source = (e.target.content as Bitmap).bitmapData;
         _images.push( img );
         counter++; --> here end up with counter = 412, 405, 512 or in debug mode around 380

    I've been doing a batchLoader loading batch of 100 images every 2sec... and it works; so it seems that when there is too many eventListeners running, they get ignored. I will need to do a more robust workaround for this, but...
    Here is a code snipplet:
    private var files:Array;
    private var offset:int = 0;
    private const BATCH:int = 100;
    var timer:Timer = new Timer(2000, Math.ceil(files.length/BATCH));
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, batchLoad);
    timer.start();
    private function batchLoad(e:TimerEvent):void {
              var file:File;
              var urlLoader: URLLoader;
              for (var i:int=offset; i<offset+BATCH && i<files.length; i++)  {
    //                    for each( var file: File in files ) {
              file = files[i];
              if ( ! file.isDirectory && file.extension == "jpeg" || file.extension == "jpg" || file.extension == "png" ) {
                   urlLoader = new URLLoader( );
                   urlLoader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.BINARY;
                   urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadingComplete );
                   urlLoader.load( new URLRequest(file.url) );
                   counter++;
         trace ("counter: "+counter);
         offset += BATCH;

  • Firefox-only connection problems with some SSL sites network-wide

    I recently starting experiencing problems with sites not loading in Firefox with the error "Connection was interrupted". I've consistently seen this problem trying to load accounts.google.com. The problem exists in both versions 3.6.26 (OS X 10.4 latest available) and 10.0.1 (Windows XP/7/server2k3). In every single case, other browsers on the same system (Safari, various IE versions) can load the same URLs just fine.
    I've already verified no proxy (FF and working browsers, all OSes), disabled ipv6 and preteching in network.dns, disabled all add-ons, deleted existing profiles, cleared cache, and cleared recent history. Existing articles suggest disabling DNS prefetch,

    Nope. Settings are default as far as I can tell. Validate a certificate if it specifies an OCSP server is selected, connection-fails-invalid is not checked.
    I resolved the issue after talking to my ISP - there was a DNS caching issue and I was getting an invalid IP for ocsp.thawte.com - but the behavior seems buggy. The OCSP server connection WAS failing (with a timeout) and per Fiddler FF just keeps issuing repeat OCSP requests before eventually giving up with the interrupted connection error. The "When an OCSP server connection fails" option doesn't seem to do what it says in this case; prior to getting the DNS issue fixed the only solution was to disable OCSP completely.
    Perhaps the problem is that the OCSP connection timed out rather than being refused or unresolvable, but recognizing multiple timeouts as a connection failure might be more user-friendly.
