FRAPS videos as blank whites in MPEG Streamclip

I use MPEG Streamclip to convert FRAPS-recorded avi-files into H.264-encoded mov-files. Software versions are at the bottom of this message.
Everything worked fine until yesterday and now FRAPS videos are shown as blank whites in MPEG Streamclip. Converting them also creates solid blank white videos. The sound part of the videos is just fine, however. Also, the FRAPS videos open just fine in Quicktime+Perian, just not in MPEG Streamclip.
In addition to checking that I have the most recent versions of all the software involved, I tried the following: reinstalling Perian, reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling MPEG Streamclip. I also tried deleting MPEG Streamclip's plist under Library/Preferences.
Nothing works. Any help will be appreciated.

If they play fine in QT Pro, do a save as in QT Pro to a new movie in a MOV container (file extension) and then try MPEG Streamclip.

  • Entourage - video files/links pull up MPEG Streamclip instead of Quicktime

ARGH! Ever since I downloaded MPEG Streamclip for getting videos off the internet, my "default" video playback for everything pulls up Streamclip. This wouldn't be problem if the videos would play, but EVERY single one gets a format error and I can't view anything anyone sends me.
Is there a way to reset this back to Quicktime? I've searched the menus with no luck.
    Please help.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
In the Finder navigate to one such file somewhere on your Mac, and control-click on it, then Use Get Info. Expand the section Open With and choose QT, and then also click to have this apply to documents like this.

  • Best Quality Export Settings in MPEG Streamclip to Edit HD Video in iMovie

    Hi,
I import video from data DVDs and regular DVDs and edit the videos in iMovie.  In the past, I've always used MPEG Streamclip because it can read the native DVD VOB format.  I then use the "Export to DV" option in MPEG Streamclip which exports a .DV file readable by QuickTime or iMovie.  These are large files, but it is my understanding that this is best quality for editing.
Now I have started to receive HD Videos.  When I use MPEG Streamclip the same way, it reduces the HD video into a windowbox 720x480 video loosing all HD resolution.
I've done some research online and apparently MPEG Streamclip's DV export options are pretty limited and other people have said to use the "Export to MPEG-4" or the "Export to QuickTime" which are more configurable.  Each of these requires a Compression Codec Selection.  Some have said to use H.264, but I've also read that you should not compress with H.264 if you're going to be doing editing.
I do not care about file size, I want maximum quality.  The incoming DVD video is 1280 x 720 (HDTV 720p), what Compression selection do I select in MPEG Streamclip for "Export to MPEG-4" or "Export to QuickTime" to maintain the best quality for editing in iMovie?  I appreciate your help!
    Jerry

Use Apple Intermediate Codec for best quality and best editing performance.
If you have Final Cut Pro installed, you may have additional good options like ProRes 422.

  • Using MPEG Streamclip to Import Video to iMovie

Help!  I can't seem to import video from MPEG Streamclip to iMovie without losing quality.  What is the best format (Quicktime, MPEG4, or other) and compression (Apple Video, other) to use?  Any other parameters I need to know about within MPEG Streamclip?
    Thank you!

Thank you, Tom.  I've ripped a DVD (legally) and have a short clip (5 minutes) that I want to export to iMovie to edit (titles at the begnning and end).  I do a lot of editing in iMovie and just want the best quality video I can get from MPEG Streamclip.

  • No audio - what exact demux option in MPEG Streamclip?

I have a bunch of MPEG1 Muxed video files from my brother-in-law's still camera. Imported into FCE, video is fine, no audio. Read many message boards and determined that the files are muxed (audio and video together) so then downloaded MPEG Streamclip. I've tried varioius Demux, Export, and Convert options, but still no audio in either FCE or even QuickTime Player. As an experiment, I sent a file to my Dell. Both video and audio played in Windows Media Player. So the audio is there, but why can't I get it on my Mac and import it into FCE? What exact Demux, Export, or Convert option should I be using in MPEG Streamclip? Or is there an FCE setting I'm missing? I also tried bbDemux with no luck. If you have an idea, please be specific!

Thank you, Meg The Dog. That worked just fine. You didn't specify which Export/Convert/Demux menu item to use so I used simply Export to QuickTime. The other method (Demux to Unscaled M2V and AIFF) produced audible files but your method was more straightforward for importing into FCE and may be better quality.
For the record, here is what the MPEG Streamclip user's guide says:
Demux to Unscaled M2V and AIFF...
demuxes the stream and creates an "unscaled" M2V video file and an AIFF audio file; you can import these two files in Final Cut Pro 4 or HD (and also in Final Cut Express if you have the MPEG-2 component); usual rendering time is required. Please DO NOT use drag & drop to import the files (Final Cut may crash due to an internal bug), but open the M2V file using the File menu and the AIFF file will be automatically linked (if you used the same name for the two files).
The "unscaled" M2V file is a demuxed file which tells QuickTime and Final Cut to not prescale it, e.g. to 720 x 540; it preserves its original size e.g. 720 x 576 or 720 x 480 so you won't lose quality when you render it. This is a special feature of MPEG Streamclip.
That, however, produces two files. Only need to import the .dv file, which is why I say your Export to QuickTime method is more straightforward.
Thanks for all the help. I still do not understand why the audio plays through my internal but not external speakers (any ideas?), but I will mark my question answered. I also wonder why muxed video files from a primarily still camera creates such a problem. Isn't this commonplace? How do people edit footage like this without jumping through all these hoops?

  • Help on Final Cut Express/Mpeg StreamClip

Hey, so my camera is a Canon T3i. My Dimensions is 1920 x 1080. 30 FPS. Codecs is H.264, Linear PCM; when shooting a video. When using the Mpeg StreamClip, i formatted/convert the clip into Apple Intermediate Codec, then later import it into FCE, put the clip onto the timeline and has the red line on top. Also before putting the clip onto the timeline, i did the Easy Setup, using the format HD, and used the HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60. Still I get the red line on top.
I used another format which is the Apple DV/DVCPRO- NTSC. It works on the FCE and i dont need to render, but it has the little black frame on both sides of the video clip.
My question is how can i make my video clip work on FCE without rendering using the format Apple Intermediate Codec when converting on Mpeg StreamClip, because i dont want use the Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC since it doesnt give me the 16:9 screen. The reason is that i want that nice quality look on youtube and i like the full 16:9 screen.
Hopefully you guys can help me out.

You shouldn't be getting the render line so you must be doing something wrong.
You are shooting at 30fps and not 60fps?
    In Streamclip do this:-
File>Export to QuickTime and select Apple Intermediate Codec.
Do not alter any other settings.
    Simply click Make Movie.

  • Mpeg Streamclip broken?

    Hi,
I have Final Cut Studio but Mpeg Streamclip is a very quick and useful tool for small jobs and tests. Lately it has been locked out of the loop and i can't export any mpeg formats at all from any Quicktime movie. It does mp4 (and better than QT) but the file menu is greyed out for all the mpeg formats that used to make this a brilliant app. I've contacted the developer about this but i was wondering if anybody has a similar experience?
    Quicktime is version 7.5.5.

Any idea what Apple have done to replace the Mpeg 2 component?
The MPEG-2 component/A.Pack work flow combination was replaced by the the single Compressor application in the FCP suite. bitVice would be a good quality alternative to Compressor for use under Leopard to create M2V/AC3 streams. FFmpegX can be used to encode MPEG-2 video directly under Leopard and MPEG Streamclip can still be used to create M2V/AIFF elementary streams from multiplexed MPEG-2 files. Until I finally broke down a bought a used FCE suite package, I simply did my encoding under Tiger by booting up my number 2 internal drive which still supported my old versions of FCE, DVDSP, and the old Compressor application, as well as, the MPEG-2 encoder component. Unfortunately all of these apps had problems coping with Leopard in part or in whole.

  • Why do I only get a blank white screen on all videos?

All videos in flash or java no longer work. Basically, what happened was I closed Firefox and updated my Java, then reloaded Firefox when it was finished. At the same time, Firefox updated itself when it was opened, and when I tried to watch a stream from Twitch.tv, it was just a blank white box and did not load the video. I also noticed that when I tried to open the chat next to the stream it said "flash failed to load". Youtube videos are just a white box as well.
I've checked all my addons as well and they are up to date and aren't having any issues. I even used other browsers and they play videos/stream just fine. However, just a few minutes ago when I was looking at my addons, I switched my Java addon from 'Ask to activate' to 'Always activate' and youtube worked, but twitch didn't; but then I tried to turn off an older version of Flash and it turned the modern one off too and everything went white again.
    Should I just refresh Firefox?

Hey Graveschaton57 Sorry to hear about this
I would uninstall your java addon and re-install, just to be on the safe side a few crossed 1's and 0's may have occured when both updated at the same time.
If that doesnt work try a clean re-install of firefox
    Good luck
    Brad

  • Video blank (white) after using Create Apple TV version

    Hello,
I have an MP4 file that cannot be played directly on Apple TV (won't sync). The movie will play in iTunes and separately using QuickTime. So I used the Advanced menu Create Apple TV version option to convert the video to be compatible with Apple TV. The conversion completes without error and automatically syncs to my Apple TV but when I play the converted version either on my Apple TV (or from iTunes) only the sound plays and the video is blank (all white). The original file has these attributes:
    Format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz, H.264, 1280x720, Millions
    Movie FPS: 29.97
    Playing FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: 7.81 MB
    Data Rate: 128.03 kbit/sec
    Current Time: 00:00:00.00
    Duration: 00:08:32.28
    Normal Size: 1280x720 pixels
    Current Size: 1280x720 pixels
iTunes is at the latest version, 8.01.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Peter

I suspect there might be something wrong with the original file, a file with a frame rate of 30 and a resolution of 720p is unlikely to have a bitrate of 128 kbps and file size of 7 MB.

  • Monitor is blank white when trying to view full screen youtube video.

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/783757''
I have an HP w2207h widescreen flat-panel Monitor. When I try to view videos ONLINE, such as YouTube, in full screen mode, the screen goes to a blank white screen. Audio works, no picture. However, when I view the same YouTube video in Internet Explorer everything works fine. Is there a setting I need to put in to fix this? Would appreciate your help!

  • I cannot play a video .mov file in Photoshop Elements 12, it shows as a blank white screen

I cannot play a video file (.mov) in Adobe Photoshop Elements, only can hear sound, and shows as a blank white screen.

    Margie
    Thanks for the replies.
I did some homework on your camera, and it appears to be recording H.264 video compression, Linear PCM Stereo, with a .mov file extension.
Let us do a check list to make sure we agree on the details...
    a. You cannot play back the video in the Elements Organizer 12
    b. Can you import this video into Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets? Does it then show up in Project Assets with an image in the thumbnail? Can you drag the video from Project Assets to the Timeline and have the Edit Mode monitor display that video and play it back there when you hit the monitor play button?
From what I have read of your camera, you could be recording 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second. Can you supply an information on that? What are you or the project setting as the project preset (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.)
Could you explain what you mean by
and can play it in the video editor, but it just shows the frames, not a real video play.
I am searching the Internet to see if I can find a sample file that I can download.
    More later.

  • Mpeg Streamclip-Video fastforwards, audio out of sync

I'm using mpeg streamclip to convert files from a sony mini dvd camcorder .vob to quicktime dvcpro50, but the video intermittently fastforwards causing the audio to go out of sync, any hints?
    Thanks, Schooner

you are the second person i have heard that has this problem. with the first, i never heard back, but one thing i suggested it to that person was to connect with component video and analog audio cables.
are you using HDMI? is this something that you could try?
what equipment are you using and what are the file types, bitrates, etc... of the files that exhibit this behavior? does it happen no matter what type of file you play?
    * NEVER MIND * i just checked the first poster and see that you chimed in there to. sounds like a potential hardware / software defect. i get something simliar with my computers if i plug headphones in or sometimes with long quicktime files, the audio drifts.
when in doubt, hard power the unit off and try again, if you haven't already.

  • Inserting blank white video

I have used the wash out effect to dissolve to white and want the frame to stay white for a few more seconds. How do you extend the length of the white frame or insert a blank white video?

After it dissolves to white, stop the movie and create a white still frame (Edit/Create Still Frame). That will place a white 5 second still frame into your clips storage pane that you can drag into your movie immediately following the dissolved clip.

  • When I upload/import a .AVI video into MPEG Streamclip, I lose the audio.

Whenever I upload a .AVI video into MPEG Streamclip, I lose the audio. The video plays fine in Quicktime but when I upload into MPEG Streamclip, the audio is replaced with some "clicking" sounds. Can someone please help me resolve this and fix it so that my audio gets imported as well? By the way, this is a problem that is only with .AVI files. When I try importing MP4 videos, they work fine and the audio gets imported as well. I need to resolve this so that I can convert my videos from .AVI to DV format with the sound. Thanks!

Basically you can only add a video file to Itunes if it is either MP4 or the other supported format h2.. <---- i forget what its called i had this problem when i first plugged my i-pod in and got extremely aggitated until i realised and sorted it
that said i dont therefore understand the convert for i-pod button when the only video files able to be added are already in ipod compatible format? doesnt make sense to me but then maybe im missing something i mean i am a nOOb!

  • You Tube videos don't play. The site comes up, but a blank white screen where the video should be.

When I try to play videos from You Tube, I get a blank white screen where the video should be. When I go to full screen the whole screen is white. Originally the white screen happened on the expanded view only.
IE doesn't have the problem, but Google chrome and Firefox 4.0 do.
