  • Adobe After Effects CC 2014 don't work with brand new Dell m6800 with AMD FirePro m6100 video card

    Hello!
    I got brand new Dell Precision m6800 with AMD FirePro m6100 FireGL V. Premiere and Photoshop works more or less fine, but there is a problem with AFx - software kills videocard (screen goes black for several seconds and then appears this notification - IC454010.gif gif by stumped2 | Photobucket ). After that - AFx hangs on. All the drivers are up to date (tried different AMD drivers - same situation), Windows 7 Pro - up to date, AFx - up to date.
    Got small chat with Dell support team and they said - everything must work fine.
    So - where is the problem? I spent almost 2.5k euros for this Dell mobile workstation, but right now I`m stuck with this problem. PS - funny fact - my Dell M6800 is on Adobe's hardware performance white paper, but seems that this means nothing

    AE uses the GPU for very little. See here: GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects
    Unless you're doing a lot with the ray-traced renderer or third party plugins (like Element 3d), AE won't really use your GPU at all.
    And the ray-traced renderer is built on NVIDIA technology so it can never use an AMD card to accelerate it. You'd need an NVIDIA card.
    That's probably part of the reason that the AE team has stopped putting any development time towards the ray-traced renderer and are focusing on a more powerful (and less GPU specific) way to do 3d in AE: details of CINEMA 4D integration with After Effects That's right: C4D is included for free with After Effects!
    Since you don't have an NVIDIA card, this will actually render faster than the ray-traced renderer too!

    I figured this is a good way to get in contact with you, seeing how you are quite active in this forum.
    This is regarding to the Adobe After Effects CS6: Learn by Video that you were a part of with Angie Taylor.
    I have encountered a problem opening the .aep files in the "Project_Files" folder, I was prompted with the following error message "After Effects warning: 9 files are missing since you last saved this project."
    When I try finding the missing images, it is not found in the folder or disc. Due to this problem, I cannot make full use of the video lessons.
    I was wondering if you still have the images to the files in this video, and if so, would you kindly send it my way? I would be very grateful of your help.

    Select your video in the Projects Panel. Right click and select New Comp From Selection. Select the video in the timeline. Press S to reveal the scale property. Click the icon that looks like a chain link to deselect Constrain Proportions. Type -100 in the second scale property.
    That's it.
    You really need to go through the baiscs. You can't possibly learn AE by simply starting. Look here.

    I cannot locate anywhere on the Adobe site which specifies that this plug-in is free to use for educational institutions.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 loads N8 video with 500 fp...

    I tried to import HD video captured with Nokia N8 in Adobe After Effects CS4 and it imports it with 500 fps. I also tried to import it to Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and I got same results.
    Video is accelerated, originally 40 seconds, in Adobe 2 seconds. I tried to modify it in Adobe After Effects and after I set it to 25 fps, length is normal, but the sound isn't.
    Does anybody know solution for that?

    I have mobile phone with 12MP HD camera and I need to use my old 3.2MP DVD camera because Nokia screwed up something.
    Do you know what codecs Nokia N8 is using, so I could check online for them? Maybe that will fix the problem.

    This completely depends on your shot. You could simply cut out a shot of a blimp using Photoshop and animate that moving across the screen, or you could do camera projection in a 3D app and model a 3D blimp. Blender is a very powerful open source (free) 3D program that I use all the time. It will take you a couple of weeks to learn enough to set up the kind of a scene I just described.
    It sounds like you're just starting out so I'd go for the first solution. Find the shot of the blimp first, then, based on the angle of the shot, shoot the shot you want to use as the background plate.

    I am a Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate Collection user, hence novice...I was browsing for more montage templates and came across Revostocks After Effects section.  I have been told by this site their templates require Adobe After Effects download to manipulate titles and videos you input.  Since I am just a hobbist not a video professional I need more then the tutorial on line to learn this system, hopefully before purchase.  I have been told it is complicated but I am hoping they have a user friendly manual for self teaching, anyone aware of how I could obtain this for purchase? 

    Not really. The help system is seveal thousands of hyperlinked pages. You can obtain Adobe Classroom in a Book series and use the free trial of AE to see if you want to invest. But you can also study many hundreds of reviews and real world case studies for AE to see if you need any of its functions. I have no idea what Pinacle is but you probably have everything you nedd in it for whatever it's supposed to do. AE is a special effects, composing and simulation application and it's expensive and it';s worth every penny if you need it. If you don't really need it, AE is just an expensive toy.

    Your problem is that the program wants a good video card and a fast hard drive and lots of memory and you have none of the above. If you upgraded the RAM to 8 gigs and installed a solid state hard drive you might make the program useable but the real bottleneck  is going to be the Intel HD graphics, which cannot be upgraded. 
    You do have an open slot to add one 4 gig memory module. This is an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade. See here:

    I would try this a step at a time. Next would be the solid state drive. That would cost maybe $150. Post back if you need more help.
