Free app keynote with configurator

How come with configurator Keynote, Pages and Numbers are still asking for VPP codes. I need to set up new iPads, thus the apps should be free.

Hi TRAK999,
From another post...
Apple recently announced that iPhoto, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers will be free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013.
Business and Education customers that purchase qualifying devices will have the option to request an equivalent number of licenses be placed into their Volume Purchase Program account.  More details about how to make this request will be provided later this Fall.
Check with VPP support on this. Call them at 1-800-800-2775 or use the contact form on this page:

Hope this helps!!

  • HT5188 Free Apps in Apple Configurator

I am from Australia and we are unable to use Volume Purchasing here. I am a teacher and currently have a class set of iPads that I am trying to set up using Apple Configurator, as the alternative is to set up every device with an individual account, which of course would be a nightmare. I noticed in this article that you need Volume Purchasing to install paid apps. Does this mean that you do not need Volume Purchasing and redemption codes for free apps and it is ok to install free apps on multiple devices through one account without volume purchasing?

Note this comment in the configurator help.  Seems like an issue to me!  I'm going to have to do a test and determine if I'll have an issue with free apps.
Important: Apps installed using Apple Configurator are tied to the device they were
installed on, not to a specific Apple ID. To update apps deployed using Apple Configurator,
you must reconnect to the same Mac from which the apps were installed. Additionally,
you can’t redownload these apps via iTunes in the Cloud. Therefore, it’s recommended
that Apple Configurator be used to install App Store apps on supervised or assigned
    devices only.

  • "Update unavailable with this Apple ID" when trying to update or re-download FREE apps purchased with this same ID

This morning I tried to update my apps through the app store. Many of them updated, but some (Soundcloud, Evernote, Viber, and IMDB) gave me the error message "Update unavailable with this Apple ID"
I removed those apps and tried to re-install them, only to receive the same message. I then logged out of the App Store and logged back in but this did not make a difference.
These apps are not showing up on my "purchased" list.
I have only ever had one Apple ID, and have been using and updating these free apps for some time now.
Any idea how I can resolve this? Searching the forums has not helped at all.

Same problem here. IMDB, TWC (weather app) Goodreader… Started this morning, out of the blue.
After deleting IMDB (hoping to reinstall), that app cannot be installed again! Trying to, gets you the same “Update unavailable” error.
Also, the problematic apps are not listed in my “Purchased” list (which is the real problem I think).
I also tried through iTunes. Same problem.
Can someone confirm that the problem apps are not showing in your purchased list?
I don’t know if it’s on Apple’s side (in which case it will get fixed) or on my side (meaning I will have to do something).
(I contacted Apple, waiting for reply.)

  • Free apps included with iPad Air not working with VPP

I can't disperse the free apps that come with the iPad Air using a VPP account. Apps like Pages are "free" with the iPad air, but cost $10 using VPP. I see it as a problem becuase the company purchased the device. The employee can download it as free but then they get ownership. Is there a solution to this?

  • MDM apps in folders with Configurator restore

I am wondering if anyone has pushed iPad apps with an MDM and tried to put them in folders on the iPads? I have a master iPad setup with all of the apps pushed from our MDM(Casper) in folders. I backed that up in supervision mode in Configurator and restored that backup to the rest of the iPads. Then I pushed out the apps to the iPads using Casper and they didn't go into folders. I tried it the other way around where I pushed the apps and then restored the backup and it creates the folders but doesn't install all of the apps or stalls out on them. Has anyone been successful with this? Thanks!

    Hi Jon,
I use Casper too and I have not been successful in getting apps into folders when installing apps via MDM. When I first started using Casper, I tried the same thing you did (master iPad with apps that were installed from Casper, run Supervsied backup, restore backup to new iPads, try installing apps from Casper) and had the same results you did. From everyone I've talked to, its seems that the only way to maintain folders with apps is with Configurator and with iTunes (using Configurator backups and iTunes backups respectively). My testing has found this to be true.
I've since separated from the thought of using folders on our iPads in our school district. We now teach the kids to use the iPad's Search feature to find apps. This also teaches the kids that Search can find so much more than just apps. So while folders are nice to keep apps organized, teaching the kids about Search can be more helpful in the long run. Also, folders can get altered by the kids once you give them the iPads. Using Search they can find the app even if they inadvertently moved the app out of the folder. Teaching Search has been a good thing for us
    Hope this helps!!

  • Push free apps

    Hello
We have download a free app on iTunes with our Apple-ID. After that we want push this free app to all iPhone's over the Profilemanager. We can push the app to the device, but we i open the app on the device, then i will ask for the Apple-ID, and i must enter our Apple-ID when i try it with the owner Apple-ID then it's not going.!
Is it possible to push a free app to a device so that the user can use your own Apple-ID? Or what is the best way to push free apps to a device.
    Thank you very much
    Greeting
PS: We're in switzerland we don't have the VPP-Program.

the apps your pushing out are associated with whatever itunes account you used to download them in itunes
    Since your not VPP
you can't download an app on one itunes account and use it on another, but you can use the same account you used to download the app, this makes no differance to the user.
ios 6 allows users to update apps without login/password, this can be a good and bad thing
to speed up deployment you can use apple configutator to install a free app and then configure the device with the same itunes account you used to download it- the company itunes account
you can get problems if users sync devices to itunes with their own itunes account
apps installed on a different itunes account (the company itunes account) may be unauthorized
when this happens apps installed with a different itunes account won't open.
it's easy to fix, delete any app that's associated with the company itunes account
and reinstall using with the the same itunes account used to push apps out (the company itunes account)
users can still use their personal itunes accounts
you just have to logout of the company itunes account in the app store on the devices
as far as I know it's not what PM app pushing is supposed to be used for. it was primarily designed to be used for pushing in house apps not itunes apps. using it to push itunes apps is unsupported although it works it may break at any time with Apple updates

  • Disable account to install free apps

I am not able to install apps in spite of providing my credit card details. I want to disable or not prompted to ask to enter the account details.
I want to install free apps directly with just a tap on install icon.
Look forward to resolve this impending issue.

    4. Create New Apple ID
    5. Confirm Your Country

But is Kaspersky any good?  It calls itself anti-malware as well, but I'm nervous about anything -- althought woud it work on my windows partition well?  I have AVG currently, but I donat know much about these things.
So if I want to delete all these free apps, how do I do it?  is it simply a matter of dragging them to the trash?  and if so should i do a secure empty trash with them?
Is there ANY kind of good anti-virus/spyware/malware available for Mac or are they unneccessary?
-- now that I look at my invocie, the free apps need to be downloadad separately, so if I got anything than I woud get Kaspersky (AVG's all right, but it also always opens up a window when I start parallels; it didn't do that before; really annyoing).  Can anyone tell my if Kaspersky is better/more efficient, etc?

Generally speaking, "free" apps bundled with software such as Parallels is anything but, and are likely to cost you dearly in time, money, lost data, or all of the above. Delete all those you mentioned and don't look back.
1Password may be an exception. I don't use it since iCloud Keychain is free but many people use 1Password and seem to like it. Get it from the Mac App Store. If the version included is "free" its functions may be limited.
Is there ANY kind of good anti-virus/spyware/malware available for Mac or are they unneccessary?
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Can I limit itunes to only free apps with Apple Configurator?

    Hi,
Is it possible to limit our itunes purchasing account to only allow free apps?  I'm using Apple Configurator.
    Many thanks
    -Scott

You have to continue to use that old ID for these apps.
Apps and all purchased content are always tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase the content. You can't use a new ID, transfer the content to that ID and sync the content with the new one. You have to use the old ID in order to sync and update those apps.
Log into the old ID on the iPad in Settings>Store>Apple ID.
BTW - that was not a great idea - purchasing apps with the old ID and then creating a new ID. If you can continue to use that old ID - just keep using it and forget the new one.

    Hi Gabe,
First, please check the suggestion above is helpful. I also suggest you removing all version of Office and re-install Office 2013.
We can try to run the application as an administrator and check if it works.
     1. Right click the shortcut of the application or the main application.
     2. Select properties.
     3. Select compatibility tab and select "Run this program as an administrator."
If there is anything I can do for you about this issue, don't hesitate to tell me.

Where I can download the free apps for Numbers, Pages & Keynote?, its suppose to be free but the iTunes and Apps page want to charge my account.

Upgrade are also supposed to be free if you already purchased iWork 9 (Pages, Keynote, Numbers), including DVD purchases.
I have a DVD installation but unfortunatly, I cannot upgrade. I get the "Update" button for these apps from the "Featured" and "Updates" tabs  of the App Store app but when I click, I get "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID". I can't even purchase the app if I wanted too, it is not an option!!! The only option that work right now is to use Microsoft Office for Mac
