Free books on ibooks?

Purchased the hobbit for ibooks, then went and checked my collections and under purchased there was a whole bunch of books that I did not purchase so i clicked on one, thinking it was a sample, but turned out to be the entire book. Was I then charged for this?

No record of any other purchase. The book I clicked on thinking it was a sample was Grimms's fairy tales.
there is 6 other books that are listed with the blue "New" banner on them waiting for me to click and install them(just as the Grimm's fairy tales did). They dont appear in my Books collection, only when I change the collection to Purchased(which The Hobbit is the only book that should appear there) Yet I have no history of purchasing any of these, have gone thru iTunes and checked purchase history and nothing.
Thats why i wondered if they came free with something?

  • Can't delete free books from iBooks

    I tried to download a bunch of free books from iTunes. The download just won't work. Finally I decided to just try and delete them from my bookshelf. Nothing I tried worked;
    1) Selected the undownloaded books in question and pressed "delete". Nothing happened. They are in the "Books" folder, not "purchased"
    2) Set "Show Purchased" in the iBooks settings to off.
    3) Deleted the iBooks App from my iPad. Deleted the books in question from my PC. Even went into the folders and deleted them. If I've deleted the content from my ipad, and from my computer AND told iBooks NOT to sync from iCloud AND told iTunes NOT to sync any books at all, then how is it that iBooks is still showing me books I clearly do not want anymore on my device. No matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall iBooks, those holding images for the books in question still keep coming up.
It really doesn't say much about a book app when the simplest thing (deleting unwanted books) needs a visit to the support pages.

Books not actually on the iPad will not show up unless you have Show All Purchases set in teh setting app. Even then they will be indicated with a small cloud icon. These will always be in teh Purchsed collection, but can also show up in other collections if you choose to place them there (moving to another collection doesn't effect the Purchased collection).
To delete a book, tap Edit (upper right corner), tap each book to be deleted, Tap Delete (upper left).
If for some reason this doesn't appear to be working correctly, two things to look into:
Open the Settings app > iTunes&App Stores. Check to see if automatic downloads are tuned on for iBooks. If so, turn it off.
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
Since you have such heartburn over the need to visit this site, you may want to consider having a look at the user guide. It may prevent the need to do so: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf

  • Free Books from iBooks store

Does anyone know how to search for free books other than searching for "free" which brings up a lot of books that aren't free along with the free ones. It has been well over a month since I have checked, but if I remember right there used to be a "free" link down at the bottom of the iBooks Store in the Quick Links category. Where did it go?

Yep. If you go to "browse" you can click on the top right where it says "Free books"
Or, in Chart, if you page through the paid books, you get to a list of the top selling free ones.
Here are two free novels to get you started.

What country are you in ? (This page shows what content types are available where.) Some countries currently only have free books, to be able to sell recent/current books in a particular country the publisher's need to grant Apple a license to do so. Have you got access to other ebook apps/stores in your country ?

  • Delete free books in ibooks

how can I do this for books that I no longer require, please

    Alternate method:
Delete the books from the Books Library in iTunes, telling iTunes to send them to the trash.
Sync your iDevice to iTunes and the books should be deleted from it.

  • Free Book for English Expert

I'm about to publish the beautiful, so worthy of reading The Richest Man in Babylon.
This book has been edited, by me, in digital media, and in print, line by line, word by word. However, after the 1000th quotation mark, within quotation mark, within quotaion mark (third person quoted within one paragraph) . . .  In short, I would still like another set of eyes.
So, I am offering one free print book to be sent to your place of work or residence; read the book, relax, enjoy (as it is clean and beyond useful). In exchange, I would like your eyes. You must know quotation rules like the  back of your hand.
    I will forever be grateful.
    It is a great book.
I will be back with the link.

  • Only free Books ??

i have an apple id set for egypt with a Visa payment, and i can only see free books on ibooks store ? i want to buy some books. thanks in advance

Not all countries can purchase books yet from the ibookstore.   Instead try Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks stores (they have free readers for iOS devices).

  • Why does my ibook display only free book?

I noticed my ibook app only display free books. Could this be because my apple ID was registered under Malaysia?

Apple can only sell content in iBooks that the publishers have allowed them to - if they havn't been granted permission then they can only 'sell' free content. So if you are in one of those countries where there is only free content then you will need to buy and use a different ebook content provider (the terms of use of the stores say you can only purchase/download from your own country's stores). Do you have Kindle (Amazon), Nook, or other ebook retailers in your country ?

  • Question does anyone know a great app to get find and download free books instead of ibooks

Question does anyone know a great app to get find and download free books instead of  using ibooks?

wanting everything in a single resource is too much to ask. You should split your query into three:
    1) how to make platform games
    2) how to make games in a windowed environment
    3) how to do games in applets
For the first, that is quite difficult to put in a book as a generic topic. What you are looking for is how to make games, with that knowledge you should be able to figure out how to do a platform game. That is quite an involving task. You will have to find out:
1.1) how to efficiently blit graphics
    1.2) 2D collision detection
1.3) framerate independent animations and movement
    1.4) the "game loop"
    as a start.
Making games in a windowed environment is not much different than fullscreen games actually; only the size of the screen is different. Other than that there shouldn't be much difference between the two, other than at the hardware level which you will probably not have to worry about too much in your beginning game development endeavors.
How to do a game in an applet: it is not much different from doing a game in a regular Swing application. I would start there and then later figure out how to do it in an applet. Using a Swing timer and custom painting on a JPanel should get you far enough, I would think.
For later projects you may want to look into the Slick library, which you can find here: http://slick.cokeandcode.com/ . I wouldn't start there though, start simpler with Swing only.

  • Ibooks store is only free books - all ancient classics

I can access the ibook site on my ipad, but all it displays is free books - mostly ancient classics.
How do I get books with a price? New books! I have an itunes account, as I have purchased many apps, so they must know who I am and who to send the bill to.
    What is the problem here?

But I'll want content with I'm in Bolivia (where I spend much of my time).
    Will they block that?
I don't think so. My problem was that I registered with the Belgian iBooks site - which apparently has no copyright agreements yet. Had I just left my account in the UK, I would have been OK (but I closed my UK bank account). I am in France now, and happily browsing books on the UK store using a UK bank.
But this all seems a bit odd.
If I log onto the UK Amazon site, they do not care where my bank account is. Likewise with Lulu. So why does Apple get all exited about matching your address with a bank account from the same country and only logging on to that country's iBook site??
It is a nonsense, in this day and age.
And it means that no Belgian or Dutch iPad users can buy any books yet, unless they can find a UK bank or credit card. That is just plain mad. Who do Apple want to stop customers buying their products, and enjoying their hardware fully???

  • Google books vs. iBooks vs. iTunes? how import epub, PDFs, and Google books

I have a new iPad and I'm trying to figure out where my ebooks will be stored. I have a bunch of PDFs and some .epub books, as well as some in Google Books. Do the ones in Google books live in the cloud or do they get downloaded to my device (can I read them when there's no network)? Can I somehow get everything in one app - say, iBooks - can I get the Google books and my .epub and PDF files in there? What's the easiest way to do that? I know I can separately "open in iBooks" each file opened on the device but I'd like to add them in bulk without having to open each one in another app and then add it manually.

    I use Stanza, and iBooks.
Stanza will let you download directly from your MacBook through WiFi, and if you put books (epub or pdf) on a personal webpage, you can add a "website" to Stanza as a source for downloading.
Stanza also has built in sources with thousands of books. You use "get books" at the bottom of the screen, then "catalog" at the top, and you will see Bookstores for $$ books, and several "Free Book" sites including project gutenberg with a huge collection, you can even get sheet music from the master composers, all free.
Stanza runs also on your MacBook, and another program to get for your Mac is "Calibre" - an excellent program that will convert books from one format to another and make the library of books visible to stanza if you turn on the server mode in Calibre.
So with these programs, you go directly to the iPad using WiFi, no cables, no need to sync with iTunes.
    Hope this helps.
    Jeff

For support for this app, which isn't an Apple product, contact the app developers, which can be found in the App Store description.
