One i execute a query i am able to view filters and free characteristics... I want to hide them before saving it as a view. how do i do that....

I think you cannot do it. You need to change the query itself.

Grouping Free Characteristics in Query Designer?

Hello,
I have a couple reports that per busniess have many free characteristics. So many that that they do not fit on one page and you must continue scrolling the page down to view all. This makes the report look sloppy but the business owner wants all of these free characteristics. I'm looking for a way to clean up the list of free characteristics without removing any selections. Can they be grouped up or consolidated through Query Designer or WAD?

Hi Alex,
Actually use of free characteristic will not slow down the report performance rather free characteristics are used to enable the user for dynamic drilldown and to improve the query performance for initial output display.
What you can suggest your users is to keep only required free characteristics and then remove the rest of the characteristics and from grouping perspective all the free characteristics in query designer output are shown alphabetically so you can not manipulate the group in designer.

If you use a Characteristic as filter you donpt have the possiblity to visualize it.......if you use it as free characteristic....it appears in the list of characteristic in the report and you have the possibility to make a drill down with it....

Entry Variable not available in Free char in Query?

Hi
I have to remove one of the entry variable in a query, its costing date and is mandatory variable; but it is not visible in Free characteristic to remove it.
Its one of the factory reports.
Any idea how to remove it?

The InfoObject Costing date is used in column in one of the KF. But the variable is not used anywhere.
I tried to create the same report in Query designer, and noticed that after creating the query, system automatically picks the variable as mandatory entry variable

Addition of new free char in query: Problem!

Hi,
I have a purchasing volume report . Requirement is to add the new characteritic ( Material ) into the definition of the query!
After adding the new characteristic, when i refreshed query in the workbook, the characteristic is displayed well below the already existing free characteristics( gap of four or five rows )!
So then how to avaoid this Gap of four or five rows?

EJB QL - Free Text in Query Condition

Hi,
Is there a way to write free sql text in the where condition of an entity bean (CMP), not using the ejb ql ?
How can I control this part, and how can I also add compiler / optimizer directives in the statement when using entity beans (CMP).

The EJB 2.0 specification has made it mandatory to have <method-params> tag within the ejb-jar.xml. Due to the absence of this tag, you are getting the error...
Please modify ejb-jar.xml and add an empty <method-params></method-params> tag for the findByAllAccounts and ejbSelectByTopAccounts methods. For example,

<description>This query retrieves all the accounts</description>
<query-method>
<method-name>findByAllAccounts</method-name>
<method-params></method-params>
</query-method>
<ejb-ql>select distinct object(ua) from UserAccount ua</ejb-ql>
</query>
Notice the empty <method-params> tag added. Please do the same for the ejbSelectByTopAccounts method.
Another thing to be changed is the jsp:usebean tag in index.jsp and DisplayAccounts.jsp. In the mentioned files, replace jsp:usebean with jsp:useBean. Please notice the capital 'B'. JDK 1.4 has made this mandatory.
Futher more, as you would be aware, 10G onwards, the CMP beans accesses the database tables through the Toplink. Toplink is the default persistence manager now. To use the orion-ejb-jar.xml, please start the OC4J with the following command
java -Ddefault.cmp.pm=native_cmp -jar oc4j.jar
I would like to point out that the sample works fine in OC4J 904 developers preview without any of the above mentioned changes. The sample application has been certified in that version.

Free goods PO query

Hi Gurus,
Sometimes we imported the goods as free. Although we did not pay anything to the vendor, we should pay custom and transportation expense to the related vendor.During PO creation in SAP, we are entering custom and transport expense as condition and we are selecting related vendor in the condition tab.
Inthis step , when we selected PO line as pay free, system deleted conditions automatically.
Can you please advise how to make payment of custom and transportation expense in case of free goods??/

Hai,
To my knowledge you cannot enter conditions for free goods ,but for that we can enter the customs and transportation charge
refering that PO in invoice verification as planned delivery charges are to directly to GL account.

BEx Query - free charactrics position

Hi,
i am working with BEx 3.x, recently we added one free charactrics in my queries, but it is not displaying in free charactrics list.
It is displaying begining of query results.
Please tell me how to correct my free charactics postion in my query

How query read aggregate???

Experts !
I have problem with my aggregate design.
i have created one aggregate on one of my cube. when i try to check using rsrt in debug mode, looks like that query is not hitting the aggregate which i have just created. it goes to another aggregate.
Now, does it mean that query will always go to the same aggregate ? or when users pulls different characteristics from free charastericts , my query might jump to another aggregates ??
OR, At the beginig whatever aggregate it hits, the query will only stick to that !

When youu2019re not sure how to design a good aggregate. Let the system propose for you but you have to use the cube in question for some time. The reason is the system need to gather statistics, before it can propose a good one for you.
Designing an aggregate (drag and drop) is easy, but designing a good one is not as easy as it looks. It requires some skills. But the good news is that skills can be learned.
When you execute a query, OLAP Processor will look for data (based on the criteria) in the following order.
Local OLAP Cache
Global OLAP Cache
Aggregate
Cube
The goal is the OLAP Processor should hit either of the first 3 guys, then bingo ! good hit. But if all of them are missed , it has to go to the cube to fetch the data. Then it defeats the purpose of aggregate.
Remember the main purpose of aggregate is speeding up data retrieval. But there is associated overhead. You should check the rating and delete bad aggregates.

EDiscovery Center Query Not Accepting 'Start' Date

I have set up a new ediscovery site collection and am attempting to perform a query for content.I created a new case which has added a new subsite and then I attempted to use the search and export query. After clicking new item I am taken to the query:new
item page.
Adding a date using the date picker for start date does not work. Clicking 'advanced query options' shows that no date filter is added.
Clicking end date works correctly.
Adding a free text date query or range works correctly.
Has anyone else come across this bug with the start date box ? Whatever is entered there is simply not being added as a query filter. ???

I can't really find in the metioned thread or in note 731637 what happens if a SC with several items is partially approved.
Example:
SC with 3 items:
item 1 cc 1000
item 2 cc 2000
item 3 cc 1000
Let's say item 1+3 have been approved by the approver found by badi and WS14500015. Is a PO or a purchase requisition created in backend? Or is it only created after the whole SC has been approved (i.e. also item 2).

Auth infoobject both in free char and selection screen

Is it possible that I define authorization on, say operating unit, in BW and then provide the operating unit in free characteristic and query selection screen?
Are there any restrictions to the above scenario?

Appreciate your best practice suggestion.
What I would like to understand is this:
1 - SAP provided the feature that if we choose processing by auth, it looks at values, defined in auth objects, and populates
them on the selection screen automatically. Indeed a great feature.
2 - SAP even gave us freedom to use user exit variables to make it dynamically chosen.
3 - Even hierarchy based auth framework is provided. Again a great feat.
4 - Even when user don't give anything in selection screen and just execute, the report is run only for authorized values.
Then why can't it happen that when user drags the auth IO from free char to report, SAP looks up the authorized values and shows then against the corresponding data record just like it does when we provide values at selection screen.
I know I might be questioning the SAP auth design and pardon me for my audacity but I just want to understand the rationale behind this restriction.
You also mentioned about the work arounds to my problem..can you share some so that I might be able to implement them and see if users are fine with it?

Setting in Query not reflected on Crystal

cyrstal Report created on top of BEx query, have following integration issue:
1) 0Vendor is Free Characteristic in Query. I have assigned the default value 03178 to the 0Vendor. When query is run, it is restricted to vendor 03178 by default, and user still can change it.
However, in Crystal Report, the filter disappear. There is no restriction of vendor 03178. Why?
2) I have a structure in Query. One of the Formula field is set to "Hidden". So this field (Formula) is not display when query is run.
In crystal report, I have place the Structure in the Detail section. When I run the report, I still can see this field (Formula) on the result. Why?

on item #1 simply because Crystal REports doesn't support the default configured in the BEx query. You shouldn't compare BEx Analyzer with Crystal Reports in terms of functionality. Crystal Reports is a tool for layout driven reports and not a tool for interactive analysis.
This seem to me is a bug. It has been recommended to build the Crystal Report on top of Query because we have more flexibility such like filter/default etc on the query. And then we can do the formating on the Crystal Report. But now Crystal Report did not produce the correct result, what's the point to have nice formatting?
on item #2 - Hidden keyfigures are shown in the Field Explorer in Crystal Reports and you can decide in Crystal Reports to include them into the report or not.
This field is part of my Structure defined in Query Designer ->Row section.
There are 3 formula in the Structure. Two of them is set to display (in the Properties), one is Hidden.
In Crystal Report, I drag-and-drop this "Structure" into the Detail section. I have no control or see the detail (the 3 formula) in the Structure as I can see only "Structure" element in the Field Explorer.
Is this bug?

Report conversion tool--Can we modify the query

I have some freehand SQL reports converted into WebI reports. I understand that report conversion tool, creates a new universe for each of the freehand SQL report. But if I try to edit the query, like add a filter condition, an error pops out.
Is it possible to edit the query if we convert freehand sql reports into webi reports?

Yes it is possible to edit the query for the converted free hand sql query.
If you see any problem while editing the SQL of the converted report, do a refresh once and try.
Adding query filter also works fine.
Issue from your end could also be due to security settings.i advise to revisit the security once and make sure all appropriate rights are available for the user.

Error when using some objects in the free characteristics

Hi,
I have a query based on an infoset made of an ODS and an object.WHen i tried using sales office,in the free characteristics,the query was running fine.When i pulled sold_to into the free characteristics and executed the report i was getting an error asking to contact the System Adminstrator.We are on BI 7.I executed the same in RSRT and it was working fine.I thought it was problem with authorizations,but not.Because i pulled 0Material which is not authorization relevant and with this also,i had the same problem.Any thoughts?.Thank you.

Yes I am seeing an additional paranthesis in Webi SQL query.
For example plz consider the product table below,
SELECT
Product.ID,
Product.Name
FROM Product
WHERE
Product.Name IN ( @Prompt('4) Name:','C','Product\Name-M',multi,free) )
As a work around in Custom SQL, If I remove the paranthesis the below query is running fine in webi
SELECT
Product.ID,
Product.Name
FROM Product
WHERE
Product.Name IN @Prompt('4) Name:','C','Product\Name-M',multi,free)
But I want a permanent solution.

Free characterisitcs order in report

In report it is showing alphabetical order.
No wrokbook I want sequence in report.
