Free-characteristic in crystal report

Hi all,
Am trying to use BW query in crystal reports but after making the connection the free-characteristic of the BW query does not show up in crystal report's field explorer.
kindly help me on the issue.

To see free characterstic in crystal report .. you need to check MDX driver with support for Multiple structure .

We are using free version of crystal report that comes with VS2008.
We are in the need to display the amount in the following format and we are not able to do so. Here is what we need to achieve

Please let us know what currency format we can use or what is the other technique to resolve this issue.

you should be able to format as a number with thousand delimiters. right click Format - > number tab
if not display as text

Crystal Report with Compound Key

Hi,
I have Characteristic with Compound Key in SAP BW 7.0. This Characteristic use to store the Purchase Order Item Line. The Compound Key is the Purchase Order Document.
So I will have the following fields created for this Characteristic:
Compound Key (Purchase Order Document) 5600001982, Purchase Order Item Line 10
I created a Query for this Characteristic and I have the following as result:
10 ...
20 ...
30 ...
All works fine.
Now I created the Crystal Report from this Query. When I display this Characteristic in Crystal Report, I have the following:
5600001982/10
5600001982/20
5600001982/30
Is this a bug or Crystal not support the Compound Key?

Issue with Free Characteristic filtering in BEx Query

We are using Cost Center hierarchy as a free characteristic in the report and when the user tries to apply a filter for selecting a particular cost center, we are able to see both the Key and Text. But after the query applies the filter and if we go back to change the filter from one cost center to the other, we are not able to see the Text of the cost center. It is just displaying the cost center number. The only way we can get the text back is by refreshing the query. Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem?

I tested couple of other reports where the cost center hierarchy is created as a free characteristic and the problem is appearing in all the queries.

Crystal Reports for VS2010 versus Crystal Reports 2011

I'm not exactly new to CR, however, I have been away from it for a while and am now being tasked to work with this product again. Alot has changed in that period of time. I'm currently using Visual Studio 2010 and I have learned that Crystal Reports is no longer integrated within Visual Studio but available from SAP as a free download as Crystal Reports 2010 and will essentially be a plug in to the Visual Studio 2010 development environment once installed.
In my effort to find a sample database as well as any additional documentation related to Crystal Reports 2010, I'm finding and/or seeing a lot of information related to Crystal Reports 2011 and little or nothing related to Crystal Reporst 2010.
1. Is CR2011 a seperate, stand-alone product versus CR2010, which is now a seperate download and plug in product to VS2010?
2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?

CR 2011 is the Full standalone Report Designer, no SDK with it. The CR for VS 2010 is the plugin that was shipped within the VS .NET as an included plug-in , you just have to install it separately with VS 2010. The complimentary SDK is in CR for VS 2010 which has the matching CR 2011 report Designer.
2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
No, but you can use the ones from our download page: These are for[ CR XI R2|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100005852352008E/cr_xi_xtreme_rep_smpl_en.zip] and is based on the old reports that you are familiar with.
For sample code see this [page|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsSDKSampleApplications], lots of them available.
RAS is the new Report Designer RCAPI SDK and you can find the help for the SDK from the same page you downloaded the installer.
3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?
We are trying to confuse everyone... just kidding. It's the way the latest builds are released. CR 2011 has no SDK and CR for VS 2010 is the SDK for CR 2011.
You'll also notice that CR for VS 2010 is version 13 and CR 2011 is version 14 which matches Business Objects Enterprise Version 4.0

Licensing for Crystal report for VS2010 in Intranet environment

Hi,
Can we use the free Version of Crystal report (SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010)
In an Intranet based Web Application (ASP.NET 3.5 & 4.0) with a user load of 250.
MAX user Load could be around 30-40 on the same report.

Crystal Reports 2008, Characteristic-Structure and LiveOffice Error

Hi,
I am trying to integrate a table from a Crystal Report (2008) in a powerpoint document using LiveOffice. The table uses a characteristic structure set up in the Bex Query. I.e. I created a structure for different nodes in a hierarchy to show the result on a row per node.
As soon as I am using groups in the table based on the structure, there's an error upon refresh of the liveoffice object. It says something like "successful (with warning)" and then "Missing parts: GroupNameStruc" (using the geramn version so I have to guess the translation). As a result, the table or liveoffice object now is empty.
When I use a group on a normal Characteristic which is not part of the structure (e.g. I have the year in free characteristics) there is no problem in liveoffice.
I read somewhere, one should use self defined technical names on the structure and it's elements, so I tried that too but with no success.
I don't see any other way than using a structure in the query, because I need to filter the nodes I need based on the underlying hierarchies. Since there's more than one hierarchy involved, I suppose I cannot even use the characteristic outside of a structure and then filter the hierarchies in Crystal...

Please try to apply fix pack on BOE and then try to apply it on Crystal Reports.
Install teh corresponding fix pack to BOE first befor applying it to Crystal.

Free Charecterstics of Bex not replicating into Crystal Report

Hi Experts,
I am having a strange problem....or may b i am missing some basic here,
We are trying to build a Crystal Report on a Bex Query which consists of some Free Characteristics and a single object in the rows, where as in the columns we are having 2 structure on which consists of Selection Key Figures restricted based on Characteristic Variables with Processing type SAP Exit.
Now wen i am trying to build a Crystal Report on this Query directly from Blank Report Wizard, i am not getting the free characteristics and Row object into the report but i am able to get the Structure values as measures.
Wen i am trying to build the report directly from the SAP tab of Crystal Reports, i am able to c the Free Characteristics and Row Object but getting all the selection Based Key Figures in a single entity on the name of the structure. Due to this wen i am using this in Crystal Report all the Column values are embedded into a single column, which is not desirable.

Free Charecterstics concept of BI in Crystal Reports

Is there a concept in Crystal reports which is equivalent to the Free Characteristics concept in Bex Query???
For Example the standard output of a Bex Query can be changed by using the Free Characteristics available in the Bex Query, is there an option in Crystal Reports which enables the changes of output of a crystal Reports as in Bex Query???

You can use a dynamic grouping approach to achieve this using report parameters: the parameter controls a formula that returns one of few fields depending on the parameter. You then group on the formula.
For a more intuitive approach for the user, you can develop your own viewer that provides drag&drop grouping change or use a 3rd-party viewer. At least one of the 3rd-party viewers listed at http://kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html provides functionality allowing the user to change grouping by simply clicking on objects on the report layout. Also, one of the 3rd-party viewer (among those listed at the Ken Hamady web site has recently added a "Group Swap Expert" that does exactly what you are asking for: it allows the user to swap what the report is grouped on with other fields or formulas using an intuitive drag & drop GUI.

Crystal reports free license issue...

One of our customers receives the following error when using our software in a Citrix environment.
"A crystal reports job failed because a free license could not be obtained in the time allocated. More licenses can be purchased from Crystal decisions."
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? or where to purchase more licenses?
The software comprises Winforms dotNET Famework 1.1 application using Crystaldecisions dotNET library to load and run reports created with Crystal 8.5

Crystal Report-BW Query free characteristics missing

Hello,
I am working on a crystal report against BW query, I am using SAP menu to build the report. I see that free characteristics not coming into the crystal report.
Question1: Is this an issue or is it designed to work this way?
Question2: As an alternative for this In BW query I have changed all the free characteristics into rows, now I am able to see all the fields but the data is becoming flat, when I try to role up the data for cretain fields it does not work correctly. Example: Role up of Rates (%). With database delegation option in webi role up work fine there but what about in crystal?

you are most likely using the old driver. make sure in the Settings in the SAP Toolbar you activate the option to use the MDX Driver.

Crystal Report failed because a free license could not be obtained

My question is about Crystal Report Standard (v. 10) and Crystal Report Professional (v.10)
Trying to print labels on from my application using Crystal Report Standard Edition (v. 10) and I am getting the follow error. And it doesnu2019t print any more.
"Crystal Reports job fauile because a free license coukd not be obtained in the time allocated. More licenses can be purchased direct from Crystal Decissions or thorough the Crystal Decisions Online Store"
If a run the same application on another server using Crystal Report Professional Edition (v. 10) and get this error, but the print after few seconds.
"A Crystal Reports job was delayed 2 seconds waiting for a free RDC runtime concurrente license to become available. More licencses can be purchased direct from Crystal Decisions or through the Crystal Decisions Online Store"
Is this happening because Standard / Professional differences?. It is any way to workaround on the standard edition and made print again with out reboot server. How many users can print at the same time?

In your earlier posts you said the RDC was referenced in one of the licensing warning messages. The licensing warnings you've listed here would normally be seen in a Crystal Reports .NET application, not an RDC application. I don't see any details about your application though. More details about the actual application would be helpful. What type of application is it? Which Crystal component are you using? Which IDE did you use to create your application? How did you deploy the application? What type of keycode did you use to deploy? Is a full version of Crystal Reports also installed along with the runtime application? Also, please confirm whether or not this is a web or windows application.
Since these are CR.NET licensing warnings I'll address the errors and warnings related to the CR.NET object model.
Crystal Reports 10 Standard edition and Professional edition are not a development level products. These types of keycodes would not normally allow a runtime application to operate. You'd normally see the warning messages if you were using either a CR10 Developer, or CR10 Advanced Developer keycode when deploying a CR.NET application.
The CR.NET runtime licensing model has 3 Concurrent Processing Licenses (CPLs). This number can not be changed. CR10 Developer edition does not include queuing in it's licensing model, so when the 4th request comes in if the 3 CPLs are in use then the 4th request will fail with the "free license could not be obtained" error message.
CR10 Advanced Developer edition includes queuing in it's licensing model, so when the 4th request comes in if the 3 CPLs are in use then the 4th request will queue and test to find a free license every 2 seconds for approximately 2 minutes. In this case you'll see warning messages in the event viewer.
The 3 CPLs can not be increased - they're a fixed limit based on the number of CPUs on a particular web server. If you use a web garden or web farm and use load balancing then the number of CPLs increases as the number of CPUs increases. It's 3 CPLs per CPU.
There is no way to force the licenses to be freed up. This is handled by the CR.NET report engine. When the engine is finished using the license it is freed up automatically.
The Report Designer Component (RDC) does have a 5 seat model in CR10, but it does not follow the same queuing model seen with the CR.NET component.
Once you post more information about your application, and the Crystal Reports runtime component you're really using we can see if the above information applies or not.

I am looking for a way to determine drive information in crystal reports.
I know you can report on files and directories but I'm looking to report:
Drive Size
Free Space
Is it possible to use Visual Basic or Crystal commands to provide this info?
