    Hi,
Go to the definition of a Master Data Object. In its Attributes tab, there is a column of navigation on/off. There you can either swith on or off the attribute as a navigational attribute. After converting into navigational attribute, you can see the type column is changes to "NAV" from "DIS".
    Hope this helps.

  • Grouping Free Characteristics in Query Designer?

    Hello,
I have a couple reports that per busniess have many free characteristics. So many that that they do not fit on one page and you must continue scrolling the page down to view all. This makes the report look sloppy but the business owner wants all of these free characteristics. I'm looking for a way to clean up the list of free characteristics without removing any selections. Can they be grouped up or consolidated through Query Designer or WAD?
    Thank You,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
Actually use of free characteristic will not slow down the report performance rather free characteristics are used to enable the user for dynamic drilldown and to improve the query performance for initial output display.
What you can suggest your users is to keep only required free characteristics and then remove the rest of the characteristics and from grouping perspective all the free characteristics in query designer output are shown alphabetically so you can not manipulate the group in designer.

  • How to select more than one free characteristics in web report?

    Hi,
From the performance point of view, I want to select more than one free characteristics to be displayed in WEB report.
I know in BEx Analyzer, we can do this by right mouse click and choose' query property' from the context menu, all the free characteristics are displayed in the popup window. But in WEB report these free char don't displayed in the 'query property' popup window.
Could anyone tell me how to implement this in WEB report?
    Eileen

    Hi,
each free characteristics in the list has two functions beside it, 'drilldown in rows' and 'drilldown in columns', but this functions as select only one free characteristics, each time you select one, the report will be loaded again.
if I want to select like 10 free characteristics, the report will be refreshed and reloaded 10 times.
my question is that how can I select these 10 free characteristics once to improve the performance.
your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
You are trying to filter in query output or workbook. If workbook refresh the workbook once after it is opened and go for filter.
You can filter by right clicking any of the free characteristic and choosing select filter value.
or Do you have problem in setting filter in query designer.

  • Change the order of Free Characteristics in Context Menu

    Hi Experts,
I execute a query on the Web Browser and right click on a cell (to see the Context Menu). I choose 'Change DrillDown' -> 'DrillDown By' and get a list of Free Characteristics.
However, the order in which the free characteristics appear in the Context Menu does not match the order of the Free Characteristics shown in the Navigation Pane (on the left side of the report).
This does not happen in BEx Analyzer (Excel), but only in the Web Browser.
I would like to know how to change the order of these characteristics in the context Menu.
Your solutions on this issue would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shruti

    Hi Shruti,
I am also using BEx Web analyser and I can see the same order as in the left pane when I select the Drilldown by
I think you might have used the Free Characteristics and when you want to exchange them/drag them back you may be having issue
Us drag and drop for the navigation. Generally, dropping one element over another exchanges them & Dropping out an element removes it from that place
    Hope this helps

  • Crystal Report-BW Query free characteristics missing

    Hello,
I am working on a crystal report against BW query, I am using SAP menu to build the report. I see that free characteristics not coming into the crystal report.
Question1: Is this an issue or is it designed to work this way?
Question2: As an alternative for this In BW query I have changed all the free characteristics into rows, now I am able to see all the fields but the data is becoming flat, when I try to role up the data for cretain fields it does not work correctly. Example: Role up of Rates (%). With database delegation option in webi role up work fine there but what about in crystal?
    Thanks

    Hi,
you are most likely using the old driver. make sure in the Settings in the SAP Toolbar you activate the option to use the MDX Driver.

  • Problem with the display sequence of free characteristics in Bex Analyzer

    Hello,
I want to display free characteristics in particular sequence in Bex Analyzer.
I have arranged free characteristics in particular sequence in bex designer but while executing the report from analyzer
free characteristics are not getting displayed in the sequence in which i wanted to display it in query output.
Could you please let me know what setting needs to be done in order to display free characteristics in required sequence in bex analyzer.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Hi Sanjay:
Please observe that the sequence of Characteristics in BEx Analyzer is Alphabetic (in ascending order), I faced a similar situation once and I solved it by adding a prefix to the Characteristic Name at the query level, for example.
    Customer
    Distribution Channel
    Division
    Month
    Sales Organization
    Year
    Could be sorted this way.
    A01. Year
    A02. Month
    B01. Sales Organization
    B02. Distribution Channel
    B03. Division
    C01. Customer

  • Can we add display characters to Free characteristics

    hi Gurus,
I have a some material display attribute in the report and customer wants to add these display characters to free characteristics so that he wants to drill down with other charcters like plant. Can we add directly in query defination or do we need to convert to navigational attribute and then add as a free characteristics.
    Regards,
    Preety

Its not possible, even if you make navigational the parent char dta will only be coming.
If you are sure that the other char data will have same value for those attr, then go ahead and create nav.
If not you need to include those attr in the cube.
    Hope its clear

  • Order of free characteristics in standard webtemplate

    Hi Gurus,
i created a query with query designer. In Excel anything is fine. Also the order of the free characteristics in the navigation panel on the left side is as defined in query. But if i start the query in web i got a problem. In web the order of the free characteristics in the navigation pane is alphabetically and not as defined in the query designer. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Adem

    Hey,
I guess it's problematic. Since you wanna still have the standard web template general, you cant fix the sequence you like by changing it.
    I don't think it's possible.
The only way is to create a new web template in which u have the correct sequence and than running the web template instead of the query.

  • Cant see the free characteristics in the work book?

    Hi all,
I have added the free characteristics in the workbook, but cant see those free characteristics in the workbook!!
How to see the free characteristics in the workbook!!
    Thanks

    hi pooja,
just open your query in Bex Analyzer,
there u will find three buttons above the data table display.
then when u will click on Filter tab, u will get all the free characteristics and variables used in your query.
then u can go to workbook, switch to design mode and make them visible,
may be at the time of creation of workbook, it(filter) would have been removed and saved as workbook.
    hope this will help u
    thanks

  • Error when using some objects in the free characteristics

    Hi,
I have a query based on an infoset made of an ODS and an object.WHen i tried using sales office,in the free characteristics, the query was running fine. When i pulled sold_to into the free characteristics and executed the report i was getting an error asking to contact the System Adminstrator. We are on BI 7.I executed the same in RSRT and it was working fine.I thought it was problem with authorizations, but not.Because i pulled 0Material which is not authorization relevant and with this also,i had the same problem.Any thoughts?.Thank you.
    Ravi.

    Karthik ,
Yes I am seeing an additional paranthesis in Webi SQL query.
For example plz consider the product table below,
    SELECT
    Product.ID,
    Product.Name
    FROM Product
    WHERE
    Product.Name IN ( @Prompt('4) Name:','C','Product\Name-M',multi,free)  )
As a work around in Custom SQL, If I remove the paranthesis the below query is running fine in webi
    SELECT
    Product.ID,
    Product.Name
    FROM Product
    WHERE
      Product.Name IN  @Prompt('4) Name:','C','Product\Name-M',multi,free)
But I want a permanent solution.

  • Poor Runtime (Client) with many free characteristics

    Hi all,
We are running BW 3.5 with BEx Analyzer (Office 2003).
Most of our queries have quite a lot of free characteristics (up to 50). However, the initial view of all queries is rather small (usually less than 30 cells in result area).
For some reason the client runtime of these queries is extremely poor (avg > 10 seconds) and makes up to 85% of the average total query runtime.
The only exception is a static query w/o any free characteristics (avg client time < 3 sec.).
Has anyone experienced the same? Is there a connection between the client runtime and the number of free characteristics (regardless of the number of cells in the result area)?
Does anyone know how to improve client runtime in our situation?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Regards,
    Christian

    Christian,
It seems that the problem might be caused by the recalculation functionality in Excel. Do you have any other excel workbooks open at the same time?
There is an OSS note on this problem
In addition you can add the following code in the workbook in a self defined refresh button.
    Sub Refresh()
'This routine refreshes all queries within this workbook
CalculationStatus = Application.Calculation  'turn off automatic calculation
        Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
        Run "SAPBEX.XLA!SAPBEXrefresh", True
        Application.Calculation = CalculationStatus
    End Sub
The code will switch off the excel recalculation functionality before refreshing the queries and then switch it back on again.
    I hope this helps.

  • What is Free Characteristics,Filter Area and 1ROWCOUNT keyfigure?

What is Free Characteristics,Filter Area and 1ROWCOUNT keyfigure?

What is Free Characteristics,Filter Area and 1ROWCOUNT keyfigure?
    Hi M.V,
Free chars are those chars that you can use to drill down your query as per your requirement at run time, i.e. once you have executed the query you can make your filter or drill down options more flexible by using the free chars.
Filter Area : Filter area is that area where you can specify the Variable's required for input, you can also restrict some charcteristic values directly as well.
For e.g -> for ur query requirement is to take date as input from user, so u will create a variable based on the calday info-object and place it in filter area.
    Directly restricting  characte.
Restricting country to 'India', now u will get the data onnly where the country is india.
Any restriction that u specify in filter area will globally effect your query. i.e. u will see only that data ouput which meets the specified restrictions
1ROWCOUNT : you get field 1rowcount when u create any DSO. By default system adds this field that contains value 1 for each row.
    Thanks
