"free disk space" error

Hi all,
I am encountering a "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets." error message.
I had originally been able to burn this project when I had it set up as a collection of video clips. But, since my plan was to use this video collection as a repeater in a waiting room, I took the tip from another posting on this board to recreate the project as a slideshow, and pull in each video as a separate "slide". Then I would be able to set the slideshow to loop continuously.
But now I am unable to burn the DVD due to this error message. I took the advice from another posting and used the Advanced > Delete Encoded Assests command, then tried to do the burn, but still got the error message.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I would recreate the iDVD project and start over. It should be easy to do since you now know how you want it. This may not work for you, but I have found that sometimes iDVD seems unable to accept changes that we make to it. Recreating it gives you a 'clean slate' and it may resolve this issue for you.

  • "Not Enough Free Disk Space" error message, but Finder shows plenty of disk space available

    Apologies if this is a double post, but I have been searching all over and can't seem to find this issue in the forums.
    I have a 256GB Macbook with a fresh copy of Lion installed, am going through the process of migrating files back over, after which I have approximately 125GB free. However, whenever I go online and try to download any type of file (PDF, sofware install files, etc.), an error message displays saying:
    Safari could not download the file “blahblahblah.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.
    Not sure how this is possible since the .dmg file is 18MB and Finder is saying there is over 125GB free. I've tried repairing disk permissions, booting off the Lion recovery disk and repairing the startup disk, all to no avail. Anyone had this issue before?

    Check in Safari's Preferences (in the Safari menu) to see what has been designated as the destination for downloads. If that has somehow been set to a disk image or a CD/DVD location, you'll get that 'not enough space' message.
    The same may occur if the download target location is set to a non-available drive. This can happen when aliases are used and things have been copied (migrated) from another drive.
    Thanks for the suggestion. That wasn't the problem, but your suggestion did shed light on something else. I was able to perform a right-click action and Save File As... to my Documents folder. On further analysis, it appears that the "Macintosh HD", Downloads folder, and Desktop are showing the "pencil with a line through it" icon in the bottom left of the Finder window, which would suggest those areas are read-only for some reason.
    My user account is the only one on the machine and it's an admin account. Any guesses as to why that might have set itself that way, or any suggestions on how to change it? I've already tried repairing permissions on the startup disk in Disk Utility.

  • No free Disk Space error

    I have been haveing alot of problems with my macbook so I decided that I was going to reinstall OS X. I chose the Archive and install option and when the installer restarted my computer it said that I didn't have enough memory to complete the installation. Please some one help me, I have alot of files of my computer that I need for school!

    I did what you asked and answered your question, but ok.
    Define booting the system? Do you mean: turning the computer on, completely booting OS X from the hdd, running the installer from the cd, or doing something that I don't know how to do through single user mode?
    Now please Gulliver, don't get snippy with me. I just want to fix my crappy computer and if any Mac offical is reading this, which is very unlikely, I am very unsatisfied with your computer. Since I got it, it has been nothing but problems and when I call you help, they tell me to, and I quote, "shut up because I know nothing."

  • Update download trouble: App Store says, in error, "-not enough free disk space"

    I wonder if anyone can help me troubleshoot this... I am unable to download some updates as from the App Store, and instead get an error message that suggests I don't have enough free disk space despite there being over 100GB free.
    More detail: after installing Mavericks successfully, I started updating a few applications. While downloading iMovie and iPhoto there was an error - can't recall what the pop-up said, but I think it was a fairly general kind of error message. When I then tried to download them again, the App Store gave me an error message about free disk space, so I deleted a bunch of files and tried again. Same result, same error message ("Your hard disk does not have enough free space"). I checked on free space, however, and at this point I had over 100GB of free space.
    I tried deleting the com.apple.storeagent folder in my Library/Caches folder, then trying again. but it made no difference. I've restarted, repaired permissions, verified the disk, restarted again, and I'm still seeing the error.
    One odd feature of this problem: in the App Store purchases tab (see screengrab below), the icons for both iMovie and iPhoto are missing/broken, which might just point the way to what is going wrong.
    System details:
    IMac 27", 2009
    2.8GHz i7
    12GB RAM
    Running OS X 10.9
    Couple of screengrabs to illustrate:

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Time Machine
    If the padlock icon is closed, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then turn it backON and close the preference pane. Wait a few minutes, then try the operation again.

  • When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

    When attempting to burn a 1.2 GB video using iDVD I get a "Burning Preparation Error.. Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaing assetts" This has only justed started to happen.  I have used this programme many times before in the past. Can any one help as I have tried all I know?

    Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem.  I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
    You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
    Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
    1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
    Click to view full size
    3 - launch IDVD and try again.
    Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk.  If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).

  • RW-20013: Error: - Not enough free disk space on system

    Hi,
    I am trying to install Oracle E-Business Suite R12 and I want to place my database directly onto ASM instead of a standard installation and then converting that into ASM.
    I have installed GRID and configured an ASM instance and when I proceed with the installation using the rapidwiz, during the File Space checks I am getting this error.
    RW-20013: Error: - Not enough free disk space on system:
    Database System File Directory = +DATA
    required = 15400.0
    actual = 6916.375
    My DATA diskgroup has around 90 GB of space.
    Can anybody help me out?
    Thanks!

    You say your DG has "around 90 GB of space." how did you arrive at that? Is that supposed to be the size of the DG, or the available space in the DG?

  • IDVD error msg Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets

    I get this error message on iDVD, does this mean I need to free up hard disc space... "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets"

    How full is your Mac's hard drive?
    Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.

    If you can't free up enough space by deleting items, get an external hard drive and move the files there. An absolute minimum of 25 GB is required by iDVD.

  • Windows SMB Clients getting not enough free disk space copying error

    I have searched and read most of the related topics in the forums, but no one seems to have a solution to this issue.
    I am running OS X Leopard Server 10.5.4 and have several clients connecting via VPN to access file sharing.
    The Macs use L2TP for the VPN, Windows uses PPTP. Everyone can connect and see the files on the server.
    The mac clients connect and share the same folders via AFP. They have no trouble copying files to the server.

    "Error Copying File or Folder
    Cannot copy FileName: There is not enough free disk space.

    So we have tried different files, different folders, but no matter what we do the copying fails from windows to the server. The server has 570 GB free - Only 20 gigs used.
    I have removed the acl permissions, added them back in via server admin, and still have the problem. Windows clients are running XP SP 2 and the macs are 10.5.3 and 10.5.4.
    Does anyone have a solution? Should we roll back to 10.4 Server?

  • I'm losing 2GB of free disk space every day. How can I prevent this?

    Every day this week I notice that I lose about 2GB of free disk space on my MacBook Pro. I'm now down to 20GB. When I started the week, I had over 30GB. I haven't installed any new programs of signficance. I store my large documents (photos, music, movies) on an external hard disk. While the MBP is not giving me problems, performance-wise, I'm concerned about the constant loss of free space.
    I checked the size of my sleepimage and swapfile in /private/var/vm and they appear to be normal. The sleepimage size remains constant at 4.29GB and there is only one swapfile that is using 67.1 megs.
    I don't seem retain disk space even after clearing the User and System caches, repairing permissions, and restarting my computer.
    I checked my recent Console messages and here is a short snippet:

    Yes, I'm running TechTool Pro 5 and it definitely looks like the Data Recovery feature is causing the disk space to be lost. I see lots of recent dates under the Directory Backups list. Looking at the Help guide, I haven't yet found how to turn this feature off.
