Free disk space is not showing in DPM console

Hello Guys,
We have one DPM server (2K12 R2). Configured for D2D backup on HP storage. recently we have removed inactive protection of around 18 TB. But in Management Workspace it is showing only 110 GB space unallocated. If i view the things in Disk Management is also
not giving any clear picture. For example:
In Volume List it is displaying the space correctly but Graphical View is completely different.
Is there any way to claim this space in DPM console?

Hi Arun,
I assume the data was removed from Disk1 of the Disk Management screenshot - it seems that many partitions are displayed with gray.
If it is not a display issue, I cannot confirm if it is caused by storage device or Windows. It could also be caused if storage actually not "remove" data but just marked them as deleted - you may need to try a reboot or check if any specific option
is available on storage device side which could help release space.

Disk space is not showing correctly in ASM views

Hi All,
I have 2 disk group of DATA (190 G) and RCV(10G). Total database size is 100 G. But v$asm_diskgroup is showing that I've only 38G is free. So what happen to rest 190-38-100=52 G.

Also why free_mb is showing 0 bytes and REDUNDANCY is showing UNKNOWN in place of EXTERNAL is in the v$asm_disk.

Where are you querying this view from? The database instance or the ASM instance?
Bear in mind that there is space overhead consumed by the mere act of creating an ASM disk group. Also bear in mind that if (I only say 'if') your redundancy was 'normal', for example, then although there might be 100GB of disk space available, only 50GB of that is usable (and only 33GB if redundancy was 'high').
In other words, if I had 100GB of disk space, actually only 50GB of that might be usable and I'd expect to lose another dollop of space on top of that to the ASM overhead -so a report of 38GB free might not be totally out of left field.
Sure, if you're not using normal redundancy, this argument falls on its face. But I can't tell that from the information you've provided (and neither, it seems, can Oracle itself!)

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" error message, but Finder shows plenty of disk space available

Apologies if this is a double post, but I have been searching all over and can't seem to find this issue in the forums.
I have a 256GB Macbook with a fresh copy of Lion installed, am going through the process of migrating files back over, after which I have approximately 125GB free. However, whenever I go online and try to download any type of file (PDF, sofware install files, etc.), an error message displays saying:
Safari could not download the file “blahblahblah.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.
Not sure how this is possible since the .dmg file is 18MB and Finder is saying there is over 125GB free. I've tried repairing disk permissions, booting off the Lion recovery disk and repairing the startup disk, all to no avail. Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks for the suggestion. That wasn't the problem, but your suggestion did shed light on something else. I was able to perform a right-click action and Save File As... to my Documents folder. On further analysis, it appears that the "Macintosh HD", Downloads folder, and Desktop are showing the "pencil with a line through it" icon in the bottom left of the Finder window, which would suggest those areas are read-only for some reason.
My user account is the only one on the machine and it's an admin account. Any guesses as to why that might have set itself that way, or any suggestions on how to change it? I've already tried repairing permissions on the startup disk in Disk Utility.

That misleading error message can be the result of moving a download while it's in progress. Right-click the download package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The file you downloaded may be in the folder that opens.

Finder not taking into account local backups when reporting free disk space

Time Machine in Lion (10.7.2) stores local backups of files on your laptop's hard drive when it is not connected to an external Time Machine backup drive. See this article for more information.
If you click on the Apple in the top-left corner of your screen and choose About This Mac > More Info > Storage, you will see exactly how much space your local "Backups" are taking (along with other useful info about how your hard drive space is being used).
Interestingly, the amount of free HD space listed there differes from the amount of free space Finder says is available (when you choose View > Show Status Bar to display it). The amount that it differs is exactly the same as the amount of the local "Backups." So, it appears that Finder is not taking those local Backus into account when it displays free disk space.
So, Finder is telling me I have almost 100 gigs MORE free space than I actually have. I would prefer Finder to show me how much space I have AFTER the local Backups are taken into account.

If you are using File Vault, turn it off. To find out where all the extra space is use any of these products - Disk Inventory X
OmniDiskSweeper
WhatSize
SpaceControl

Not enough free disk space to export photos

Apple Mavericks OSX 10.9.4, processor 3.06 GHz, memory 4gb 1067 MHz

I am having trouble exporting a sizable photo album slideshow from iPhoto to a flash drive.
I have spent countless hours captioning some 3000 family photos into about 20 albums. The number of photos in albums ranges from 20 to 295.
I've been successful in exporting each album slideshow to a 16gb flash drive except for the two largest ones, with 232 (351mb) and 295 photos (555mb). For these two, I get a very quick error message "not enough free disk space. Free up space on the disk and try again." There is plenty of space on my 16gb flash drive, and my desktop has more than 440gb free space out of 495 total.
I've tried updating iPhoto to v. 9.1 without success. Is this an iPhoto issue? I'd rather not switch to iLife and have to pay for it.
I am very average at systems stuff, so please make your suggestions in language I can understand! Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

How did you arrive at the numbers you got for available space? Some things are not counted in the amount of space depending on what you did (like local Time Machine snapshots, etc) and some things are. I use the "df -kt" (shows everything in KBytes - use "-mt" if you prefer to see the numbers in Mbytes or "-gt" to see in GBytes) command in a Terminal window to list the total size, amount used, amount free for all mounted volumes.
Do you have "Read&Write" permissions on the disk you're trying to save to? Perhaps there are some "hidden" folders taking up a lot of space?

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" on exporting slideshows

I have about 100GB of free space on my HD and Iphoto 8.1.1 is now showing "Not Enough Free Disk Space" when I try to export a slideshow. Anyone had this kind of problem? Any idea how to solve this?

Some basic fixes to try:
Repair Permissions with Disk Utility
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

Update download trouble: App Store says, in error, "-not enough free disk space"

I wonder if anyone can help me troubleshoot this... I am unable to download some updates as from the App Store, and instead get an error message that suggests I don't have enough free disk space despite there being over 100GB free.
More detail: after installing Mavericks successfully, I started updating a few applications. While downloading iMovie and iPhoto there was an error - can't recall what the pop-up said, but I think it was a fairly general kind of error message. When I then tried to download them again, the App Store gave me an error message about free disk space, so I deleted a bunch of files and tried again. Same result, same error message ("Your hard disk does not have enough free space"). I checked on free space, however, and at this point I had over 100GB of free space.
I tried deleting the com.apple.storeagent folder in my Library/Caches folder, then trying again. but it made no difference. I've restarted, repaired permissions, verified the disk, restarted again, and I'm still seeing the error.
One odd feature of this problem: in the App Store purchases tab (see screengrab below), the icons for both iMovie and iPhoto are missing/broken, which might just point the way to what is going wrong.

Safari could not download the file -there is not enough free disk space

I've tried downloading Windows Media Viewer, StuffIt Expander, and Adobe Reader however when I do I receive an error message as follows (example is for the StuffIt Expander -similar message for the other programs): Safari could not download the file "nstuffitexp12.01.dmg" because there is not enough free disk space.
There is PLENTY of free disk space on my hard drive. The hard drive has 20 GB of Used space and 129 GB of Available space.
A few simple fixes I've tried, that did not help: I cleared my Cache, I emptied my Trash, I restarted the computer. (sorry, I'm a Mac novice -not sure what else to try)
What's wrong? How do I download these files??
I would like to open Window Media Viewer files (.wmv) and Adobe Reader files (.pdf) so I need these programs on my computer.
So as a secondary question, is there a program for Macs better suited to open and view .wmv and .pdf files?

Mac OS X can open pdf files fine without Adobe's bloatware, they open by default in TextEdit - the whole of OS X's display system is actually based around pdf technology so it's easy for the system to integrate pdf tools. There are alternative tools available on MacUpdate but for reading TextEdit is fine.
wmv files should be opened with the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin, Microsoft no longer support their own player on Mac and even supply the F4M plugin from their own download pages.
For Stuffit files (which are thankfully much rarer these days) I'd use The Unarchiver instead of Allume's fat cat.
To fix the other problem you could try changing your download location in Safari preferences, General - it may be that the location you are downloading to has the problem. You can pick anywhere you like just to test it out.

Issue 2: Not enough free disk space

Well, now that I'm here, I will try to figure out all my problems.
Ignoring the fact that my MacBook won't turn on, once it goes back to normal, I hope I can solve another thing. Two or three times, while I've been working in heavey Word documents in my Macbook, a message box appears when I click on save or when it tries to do "Autorecovery". It says there's not enough free disk space for me to save that file. What I do every time is I select all, then copy and then quit word. I open it again, paste and save. Everything is fine, but I'd really like to know *** is wrong since I do have a lot of free disk space and this doesn't happen unless it's a heavy file in word. Should I get rid of some apps? Unused files? I don't have that many... I think my Macbook is acting weird since I've almost got nothing stored in it but files, pictures and songs. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?

Get Info on your hard drive or open a finder window and see how much space is available on your drive - that's at the bottom. Music, pictures, movies use more disk space than most files. You might have enough space sometimes because various programs - like Safari - cache material and the caches can get large. Some caches empty themselves and others need to be emptied; you can empty the Safari cache from one of the menus.

"not enough free disk space" when I try to download Skype or ooVoo

My downloads were working perfectly fine a few days ago. Then one day I closed my Macbook to sleep and when I opened it all my settings had been reset, my background was gone, everything in iTunes was deleted, and my Skype and ooVoo had been deleted.
Now when I try to re-download it, it tells me "Not enough free disk space"
My Hardrive space has about 85GB. Can someone help me troubleshoot?

Not Enough Free Disk Space to Burn - - Please HELP!!!

I'm having a lot of trouble creating my iMovie and DVD. After several days of trying to delete applications and files off of my hard drive, I apparently still do not have enough free disk space to burn the DVD. This is very frustrating for me as I've created several movies/DVDs in the past and haven't had this much trouble. (I have deleted the old movies for more space.)
I have used Monolingual to delete unnecessary language files, and have deleted the iDVD plist as was suggested in other threads, however I still do not have enough free space.
Any additional suggestions would be VERY much appreciated! I tried to copy the iDVD file to my iDisk thinking maybe it would burn from there since I have almost 10GB available there, but again there wasn't enough space.

One of the problem with the Powerbook G4s is that most of them tend to have small - in today's term - hard drives. I have a couple of external Firewire drives from Iomega that I use with my Powerbook to fee as much free space on the internal hard drive as I can. You will have to do the same.
iDVD probably won't be able to use a project file on your iDisk.

When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem. I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.

3 - launch IDVD and try again.
Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk. If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).
