FREE FCP Plug-in Links

Please post links you have to free Final Cut Pro plug-ins.

Google is your friend here. I use Patrick's Technicolor all the time. Andy Mess has some great ones too.
As for a link, maybe this is helpful as well.

  • NOT FREE FCP Plug-in Links

I would like to purchase the packs of FCP Plug-ins for personal use. Notice I said "personal". I don't want to spend a lot, since these are basically just for videos I create for family and friends. Under a $100 is good, but I do realize some Plug-in bundles have greater value than others.
    Please post what you have.

Trust me, I know. I'm currently working at an elementary school and the students love the cheesy cuts, transitions, etc. They go crazy when they see things like "ripple".

  • Missing free distort plug-in

    Hi,
I tried opening a file recently but I got this message:
"The document 'package.ai" contains elements that are managed by plug-ins that are not currently available. You can delete or expand these elements but you cannot manipulate them in other ways. The missing plug-ins are listed below. Free Distort (Free Distort.aip)"
I have been using free distort without any issues in the past so I don't know why there would suddenly be an issue with it now. I tried restarting everything and checked multiple files, but it's still as if the plug in just disappeared. I started a new file and tried to use free distort on it. Free distort was one of the options in the effect drop down menu, but nothing happened when I clicked it.  I checked in program files>adobe>adobe illustrator CS5>plug-ins>illustrator filters and the Free Distort plug-in was there.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's probably being blocked by your virus scanner or inaccessible due to botched user permissions.

  • FCP X not linking to optimized media

For some reason, FCP is not linking to optimized media- none of it, ever. My footage was transcoded on import and an optimized media folder created. I have everything in the Library bundle- both orignal media and optimized media folders are inside. I know FCP is playing the original media because 'reveal to finder' points to original clips. In addition, inspector shows H264 codec. What's the point of optimizing media if FCP doesn't point to it? How can I get FCP to utilize the transcoded clips in the optimized media folder?
    FCP 10.1

    AVCHD is basically H.264
This is an extract from the AVCHD article in Wikipedia  .  .  .  .
For video compression, AVCHD uses the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 standard, supporting a variety of standard, high definition, and stereoscopic (3D) video resolutions. For audio compression, it supports both Dolby AC-3 (Dolby Digital) and uncompressed linear PCMaudio. Stereo and multichannel surround (5.1) are both supported.

  • Any Good FREE FCP Video Tutorials Like LiveTypeCentral Do For LT ?

Recently my attention was drawn to some very good FREE video tutorials provided by LiveTypeCentral:-
    http://www.livetypecentral.com/cgi-bin/livetypecentral.cgi/tutorials.html
I was wondering if there are any similar free ones covering FCE/FCP or the other FCS apps?
I don't need them of course ....... they are just for friends! (If you believe that you'll believe anything).
Incidentally I have done a search and had a look at the Creative Cow ones, but they tend to be on somewhat random esoteric subjects.
I am looking for something that starts with the basics of the apps.
Message was edited by: Ian R. Brown

Sorry, I didn't make it clear.
I mainly wanted freely available tutorials that I could direct others to on the FCE and other forums. Frequently newcomers don't know where to start, and I don't have time to write a new manual, so it is very efficacious to be able to point them to a site with free tutorials.
That LiveType source I quoted is excellent. So now, basically all I am looking for is a similar one for Soundtrack and FCE/FCP.
The first one you linked is probably fine except for the download time which would probably have taken several hours per tutorial, which is going to put off many newcomers looking for a quick-fix.
I must admit I also like looking at tutorials (I never used to!) because every one of them has a different angle and it's surprising what you can pick up, that you have missed in others.

  • Can any Motion plug-in (or FCP plug-in) do motion tracking?

I've got a project I'm working on that involves shooting model spaceships in front of a greenscreen, then compositing into a shot. I'd LIKE to animate the engine glow without having to keyframe every frame, and I'm trying to avoid buying Adobe After Effects.
Is there a Motion or Final Cut Pro plug-in that can do motion tracking, or should I bite the bullet and just get After Effects?
    Mac G5 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   FCP 5, Motion 2

Well, you could try iStabilize: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/istabilize.html
I also believe that Boris has an image stabilizer, but I don't know that either Boris or iStabilize have the ability to generate the tracking points...
I have used image stabilization to comp shots before - I stabilized a cropped down version of the shot, comp'd my bit into it, then stabilized the corner of the crop (which was jumping around because the image within it was stable), which put the movement back in the shot, then layed that over an original copy of the clip. A lot of monkey motion, to be sure.
I believe iStabilize has a free trial download...

  • FCP plug in for specific effect

I want to know if there is a specific plug-in or effect I can create in FCP that will give me an effect that looks like a flare around a person or object.
The effect is a kind of radiating effect that goes all the way around the subject, and moves with the subject. I hope this makes sense.
    Suggestons?
    Thanks!

Oops, first let me say that I am running 5.0.2 - not 5.1.2 - so the Volumetrix FX probably wont' run on my ssytems. I did lookat their website and that is the effect that is cloes to waht I want. Now, on to rotoscoping - this is something I've heard about but do not fully understand. I know it is used alot, but I am not really familiar with how it is done. Suggestions on where to find info?
And any ideas for FCP 5.0.2?
    Thanks!

  • Pixelated FCP Render of linked .motn file using LiveFont

I have a clip that I've used the "Send To" feature to open in Motion. While there, I added two bits of text using LiveFonts (blueprint and timer).
It looks crisp as can be in Motion. I save it, Apple-Tab back into FCP and get the momentary "Media Offline" while it updates.
In the canvas, the frames look every bit as good and sharp as in Motion. I then render the sequence and the results are hideous... but only on the "timer" font. I had the same results using the "flip counter" LiveFont. The "blueprint" font, however, looks fine before and after the render.
The same fonts rendered in LiveType look gorgeous. I can overlay them in Motion just fine. I can use them directly in Motion and export a lossless quicktime (Animation format) and they look fine.
If I use Send To, though, to take advantage of the convenient workflow, I'm required to render in FCP and the results are hideous.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem or if there is some kind of workaround?
Here is a link to a sample JPEG showing the canvas window and the rendered output in FCP:
    http://www.halfpress.com/images/font-problems.jpg
Keep in mind that these are two qualities are visible within FCP side by side using the same data. I choose a frame in my crappy rendered output, hit f to match-frame and am presented with pristine on the left and hideous on the right... but again, only for one of the fonts.
    Appreciate any help!
    - Aaron

Thanks. Actually, that seemed to do it... or very close. I also tried the Animation codec and it appears to be an even more precise match to the Motion source than the uncompressed 8-bit.
I had ruled that out initially because exports I did from Motion itself to the DV format looked semi-cruddy, but nowhere NEAR as bad as what FCP was rendering. That made me start thinking FCP was internally hosing the source when it renders.
I will say that FCP is rendering the drop shadows differently from the Motion source than Motion is previewing and rendering internally.
So is this procedure of running the finished sequence through a new timeline with a better codec pretty standard?
Another thing I had tried before posting my original question was exporting my working DV sequence with Compressor to a better higher quality format to see if it improved. I was doing this to see if only the editing process looked bad and maybe it would internally re-render through compressor to a higher quality. It seems it just renders from the nasty DV source even when going through compressor.
Now assume I need to drop it in a new sequence within FCP using Animation or Uncompressed 8-bit, render, and THEN export to compressor?
Trying to ascertain if this is a hack/workaround or legitimately "the way things should be".
    Thanks!

  • $5k camera recs with hassle-free FCP X workflow?

Sorry if this is a redundant question, but I couldn't find a current answer in past posts.
Desperately looking to replicate the good ol' MiniDv workflow from years back when I connected my camera to FCP via firewire and captured with no re-compression voodoo inbetween. How do I get that same workflow in AVC-DVC-HDV-Whatever HD land?
If I have $5kish to spend and want 2 XLR inputs and easy workflow, any recs come to mind?
    Thanks much.
    Tony

For one, try something in the Canon XF series. At the low end is the XF 100; at the high end iks the XF 300. FCPX will be happy editing the native MPEG codec…or you can optimize. Good candidates for what you want, but there are other contenders.
If you download the latest plug-in, and have 10.7, the clips will import far faster than real time.

  • I compiled a list of free audio plug-ins that actually work in Premiere

    http://www.fallenempiredigital.com/blog/2013/03/06/enhance-your-audio-mix-in-premiere-pro- with-free-vst-audio-effect-plug-ins/
Cross posted from the Creative Cow forums, I wanted to invite others to suggest plugins they may be using (free preferred). And no, Adobe, I'm not dissing your audio effects in Premiere but they are Soviet-prison-cheese-sandwhich basic.

    Thanks for the response.
We tend to not assume it'll work & blindly fire off updates.  You see, when we (IT Only) upgaded to X from 9, the new 'protected mode' feature caught us off guard.  We assumed we had done something wrong with the packaging and so spent a few days making sure we crossed our t's and dotted our i's before escalating to the vendors.  And when we reached out they came back with a very simple "ohh yeah just check off a box", making us feel a bit foolish.  I wanted to be sure there wasn't some other new measure put in place to further try to secure Reader.
    As it turns out,
LexisNexis had to update their package for CaseMap 10 for Reader XI, and they have no plans to patch earlier versions.
Autonomy / Interwoven is set to release FileSite 8.5 SP3 Update 6 in Q1 which will support XI.
As you stated, vendors have to produce updates.

  • Fcp plug ins

ok I will sound stupid now but I’ve just found out that you can get plug ins for fcp. I’ve downloaded one how do I install it? I’m still new to the mac and I haven’t done this before.
I’ve down loaded one and it comes in a folder. The structure is below
    name of plug in>contents>
Then in side that it has to more folders and a file
One of the folder is resources the other folder is MacOs and there is a file called info.plist
Do I need to go into the other folders? and what am I meant to drag and drop where?

    Hi,
After downloading the plug-in drag it to *Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro System Support > Plugins* folder.
Finally restart Final Cut Pro and the plug-in should show up in the effects menu ( generators or transitions folders depending on what your plugins are) .

  • 5 Free AE Plug-ins ??

When I registered AF6.0 at the registration site, I was asked to download the 5 free plug-ins. I click "Run." But When I opened the AF, there were not those 5 plug-ins. How can I download those plug-ins again? What can I do to use those plug-ins? Are those ZIP files?

Hello. I know I sound really archaic.... talking about AE 6.... while they are now shipping CS 4.... Technologies are going by far too fast.... I can not catch up that quickly..... I guess I have to give it up... those 5 special effects......

  • A TLC look with a FCP plug in

I'm trying to achieve a blowout highlight look that is used on TLC shows like Miami ink and L.A.INK. With which plug in and how can I achieve this?

I'd try one of the many available Chroma Glow filters and set white to be the glow color. Also see Patrick Sheffield's "Electronic Makeup Artist" plugin found here: http://straylight.tv/pluginz/index.html

  • How to write FCP Plug-ins - Anybody Know?

I'm thinking I'd like to learn how to write Plug-ins for Final Cut Pro. What's a good online source that might teach me how to do that?

    Do you know C, Brian?
The difficulty I find with FxPlug authoring is that, unlike FxScript, you have to write everything.
In other words, if you want to blur an image, in FxScript, just pass your image to the Blur (or BlurChannel) routine:
    Blur(bimage, Dest, radius, aspectof(Dest))
in FxPlug? You'll have to write a blur routine... how up are you on your Gaussian Blur algorithms?
Same with keying - need to do a chroma key? In FxScript:
    RGBColorKey(src1, buf1, red, redsoft, green, greensoft, blue, bluesoft, softness, 1);
How are you at writing an RGB keyer in C?
I've only written one or two FxPlug plugins because of these limitations...
