Free heat monitor software?

Does anyone know of any free heat monitoring software? I tried the "temperature monitor". The download page on apple.com says shareware but when I try to use it asks for me to buy a serial key.

Temperature Monitor is free....here's the site:

I also have the iStat Pro widget to get a quick view of temps.

  • I need free network analyzer software for my mac. we are trying to monitor what software may be running which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem.what is recommended?

My internet keeps 'tripping' at or around the same period time each day.  We have already replaced our modem from our internet provider and we bought a new airport extreme router. We do not believe these were the cause, although we have now ruled them out as a cause.  Everytime the internet fails, our internet provider company tells us that there is still plenty of signal coming into our house. There is something going on inside we believe, and a technician set up our Network Utility to run a continuous ping test to capture information about when it 'trips' againn.  Yesterday, it happened again, and when he checked the data out, he said he is sure there is something 'running in the background' on my IMac.  He advised me to download a free Network Analyzer so he could further investigate what is was that was causing the problem, so I need a free network analyzer software for my Mac. The issue has been going on for a long time, so it is not the new operating system, Lion. This morning, we changed the radio channel from 'auto' to 'manual' and set a new channel, hoping that might help. We are trying to find out what program may be running (even a tiny one in the background) which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem. What is free downloadable product is recommended?

Will Activity Monitor and/or Network Utility, both already in the Utilities folder on your Mac, help in trying to diagnose the problem.
If you are connecting via wifi what encryption are you using? If you're using the Exteme I doubt that you are using WEP, but worth checking as it seems Macs don't like it and work better using WPA.

  • Camera control and Monitor Software

    Hi All,
    Two questions, quasi-related.
First, does anyone know of any camera control software for Sony? I have a TR27 and an HDR FX1.
Second, does anyone have any experience with monitoring software? Specifically, I am looking at the Red Lightning DV Monitor software. It would be nice to go from the camera directly to the hard drive. Also, is there any software which lets you monitor more than one camera simultaneously?
Thanks. Any input/links would be helpful and appreciated.
    --Dana

They should produce the same EXACT version of the RAW file.
The profiles are meant to give approximately the same rendering concerning tone and color. You cannot render the exact same thing as Canon uses proprietary algorithms which Lightroom cannot use. The profiles just approximate those using Lightroom's RAW engine. Also they will only come close if you use default settings in your camera, so no highlight priority, no added saturation, etc. If you want the exact same thing, shoot jpeg or convert the RAW to tiff in DPP. That said, my experience is that the camera matching profiles come very close to out-of-camera rendering as long as you don't modify the styles.
I say they HAVE to, because otherwise who is right - who´s got the true colors (e.g. Faithful style is supposed to represent colors exactly if shot at 5200K, yet DPP Faithful differs from LR faithful????)
None of Canon's styles give accurate rendering. That is not what they are meant to do. They are meant to be visually attractive, which is very different from accurate. Faithful is not really scene referred correct color. See for some measurements of that on one of the more accurate cameras, the Canon 5D mk II, here. The way to get correct color, if that is what you are interested in, is to shoot a colorchecker chart and use Adobe's free DNG profile editor to generate a calibrated profile for your camera.
Also, is there a way to convert other picture styles one has created into Lightroom profiles perhaps through some use of DNG Profile Editor?
No. Would be neat, but is not currently possible without a lot of manual labor. You can shoot a colorchecker and by comparing the rendering in DNG profile editor to that in DPP visually and using the patch tools, you might be able to sort of get there but that is going to be very tedious. It would be nice if we were able to give DNG Profile Editor a different target than perfect rendering of the colorchecker, because right now, the only way to do it is visual.

  • Free Screen Recording Software

I need a free screen recording software. Anyone know of any good ones?  I have been looking at CamStudio.org but I can't find anyone to really vouch for it yet and the download package is sketchy at best. It's a zip file with a single .exe so I tried unzipping it in a VM and it wouldn't uncompress fully (stops at like 93% and just holds) I've scanned it but I'm still sketchy.
Anyone have an alternative to that one, or can vouch for that one?

  • Child Internet Monitoring Software

Anybody know of any good monitoring software for G3 Beige OS 9.2.2? Free, perhaps?

    Hi James,
I did some quick searching today and can't find Mac filtering software. I'll ask around and see if I can round up a posse.
Investigate the multiple user function in OS9. That way, at least the software--if it exists-- would only be active when the kids are logged in to their account. Or you might be able to set up times that each account can be on the computer.
Ask your ISP if they have any filtering/blocking tools at the server end. Ours does.
Look at your browser. I know IE has built-in filtering tools, but they don't let you see sites visited if the kid figures out how to erase the history.
Best internet filter--Mom and Dad, when possible. I know that's seldom 100% possible. What worked for use was this: the kids knew I was techie type; their friends called me the "Ancient Geek." I liked it. I told the kids I'd know if they had been to "bad sites." Knowing that I could take the mysterious Mac apart, make it better, and put it back together impressed them. They assumed I could find out anything related to the computer. In a way, I could.

  • IM Monitoring Software

Not sure exactly which area to post this in, will start here. I am running the latest on everything with my mac, as far as software is concerned.
My daughters are hitting teen years and starting to get into IM'ing.
I have plenty of parental controls (comp in living room, I interact with them a lot, etc) in place.
but, my wife is starting back to work and they will start having plenty of alone time in the future.
I trust them right now, but would like to do some random 'audits' of IM conversations a few times a year. I really don't suspect they will do anything wrong, they are good kids. But I am worried about what others might do...or what they could be tempted to get into.
All that stuff said, anyone have any good suggestions on IM monitoring software for yahoo IM, microsnot messenger, and that kind of thing? a buddy of mine runs trillian on his pc so he can monitor/audit occasional IM conversations of his daughters. It evidently is a keystroking software or something similar.
anyone know of something inexpensive, simple, and practical that I can use to monitor conversations on my computer?

  • What's the best free anti-virus software to use?

I'm looking for the best FREE anti-virus software for personal use. Suggestions? If you could give me the top 2-3 or those that clearly separate themselves from the pack, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    Darien,
Allan is right it's really not needed for MacOSX, but if you feel you need protection from viruses/malware download and install ClamXav. If you want real time scanning for files and downloads use the Clam Sentry feature. Open ClamXav, go to preferences activate clam sentry, when asked  what folder to watch just enter the / which will monitor your entire system. Hope this helps.

  • 5 tough questions relating to the monitoring software

    Hi guys,
I'm writing this on behalf of one of our partners. They are having major problems setting up the monitoring software (v 1.0.0_200809). I have asked them to verify that they are using the latest firmware upgrades on the cameras and that they are running the latest version of the monitoring software. They have confirmed that this is the case.
I have some doubts about this but perhaps you can help with the issues listed below.
    The following issues have surfaced:
    1. Issues with Graphic Card driver for Intel GMA945
    - if this driver is installed in a laptop the monitoring software (1.0.0_200809) will not inititate/start.
The error message is: <or corrupted resource files.  Please reinstall to solve this problem.>
Reinstalling the software will unofortunately not solve the problem. The only way to fix this problem is by removing the driver.
Question: Is this the only way to get the monitoring software to work and is this a known issue?
    2. The new version of the monitoring software is unable to find the cameras using "search" functionality. The only way to configure tha camera is to do it manually.
Question: Is this a known issue and how should I truobleshoot this?
    3. The cameras will not store the video feed on the Cisco NAS servers if the monitoring software is shut down. I remember from previous discussions that this should be possible but my partner is unable to get this fixed.
Question: Are there any instructions for how to set up the cameras so that the video feed is still being stored on the NAS despite closing the monitoring software?
    4. In order to setup an ftp -feed to the NAS server, each camera needs to be configured manually. According to the partner this can not be done centrally using the monitoring software.
Question: Is this really the case?
    5. According to the partner, it is not possible to use the monitoring software to view stored material that has been transferred using ftp.
Question: Is this really the case?
    Many thanks in advance!

Hello and sorry for my delay in responding (Was on Vacation).
    1) I have seen the problem you refer to and the way I got around it was to change the screen resolution, believe it or not.  I remember lowering it to 1280x800 and even have it working at 1400x1050.   That is a weird problem, and I did report that to the BU who I believe told NUUO, but for now this is the only workaround.  Uninstalling and reinstalling will not help, as you realize now.
    2) The new Utility WILL FIND all SB Cameras it supports on the LAN.  So if your PC is connected to the LAN and can route (ping) the cameras, it can find them.  Note: xVC2300 require FW upgrade to V1.01 to make them work.   WVC200 will not be recognized at all.
WAN Monitoring of course will require manual config and port forwarding to an alternate TCP port (PVC300) or an adjusted TCP port (xVC2300).
    3) Correct.  If your it off, it wont record.   This is really menat to be on a dedicated PC that should always be running, so is per design, and I do realize the old utility worked as well when off, but this new one is much improved in other areas and is still free :-)
The Camera itself can send montion detection or scheduled recordings to an FTP Server (NSS2xxx, NSS3xxx) regardless of the presence of the SWVMS16, so yes, the camera can do this too (Simultaneous; dual stream; dual codec).
    4)  Setting up the FTP client on the Camera and the FTP Server on the NSS is done with a WIZARD or manual config on the elements and is totally separate from SWVMS16, which is an additional capability.
    5)  The SWVMS16 will only save information (video) it records, so is separate fromt he FTP sourced files from the camera. To access the FTP files, just add the NSS to your network neighborhood on the NSS and browse the files (CIFS or NFS) as you would if they were on your own PC.

  • Logical Disk Free Space Monitor - Slow to detect low free space

We are using the built in two trigger (MB and %) logical disk free space monitor in SCOM 2012 R2. We have setup overrides for MB warning and critical for both system and non-system drives and for a group containing disks we do not want monitored. The monitor
actually works fine, triggering an alert when both the MB and % free criteria are met. The problem is that it takes almost an hour for the initial alert to fire. After the initial alert, if I further fill the disk to push it from warning to critical, the alert
changes within the specifiec interval, which we have left at 15 minutes. The alert also clears using the 15 minute interval.
Has anyone else seen this behavior with this monitor? A disk monitor that takes an hour to fire is not going to be very useful.

I wanted to see for myself if there was anything else that I might be missing, so I opened up the Windows 2008 Logical Disk Free Space monitor XML and noticed that there is a NumSamples configuration that is set to 4. So, if the interval is 15 minutes, the
disk would have to exceed both threshold types for 4 consecutive intervals in order to change state and generate alert. This would be a minimum of 1 hour before an alert is raised with the default 15 minutes interval.
Unfortunately, NumSamples is not overrideable in the monitor type, which is too bad... The only way to get an alert sooner than one hour is to override interval. For example, if you want an alert within 20 minutes, override interval to 300 seconds (5 minutes).
Here is the code - see for yourself:
    <UnitMonitor ID="Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.LogicalDisk.FreeSpace" Accessibility="Public" Enabled="true" Target="Server2008!Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.LogicalDisk" ParentMonitorID="SystemHealth!System.Health.AvailabilityState" Remotable="true" Priority="Normal" TypeID="Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.FreeSpace.Monitortype" ConfirmDelivery="true">

    <SystemDriveErrorPercentThreshold>5</SystemDriveErrorPercentThreshold>
    <NonSystemDriveWarningMBytesThreshold>2000</NonSystemDriveWarningMBytesThreshold>
    <NonSystemDriveWarningPercentThreshold>10</NonSystemDriveWarningPercentThreshold>

    <NonSystemDriveErrorPercentThreshold>5</NonSystemDriveErrorPercentThreshold>
    <NumSamples>4</NumSamples>
    </Configuration>
    </UnitMonitor>
    This proves 2 things:
    1. Your testing proved that the monitor is working as designed - you got an alert in about an hour
    2. This is a bad design at best, or a bug if you wish, as NumSamples should not be a hidden configuration - it should be exposed in override parameters in the console.
This should be fixed by Microsoft.

  • Is there a FREE Parental Controls software for Mac?

Does anyone know of a free parental controls software for Mac? I have OS 10.3.9 and don't want to (or need to) get 10.4 +. Thus I can't run safari 2.0 or later and I want to have parental controls. I suspect it's out there but I can't seem to find it. TIA all.

For Tiger, Workgroup Manager (part of the free Tiger Server Admin Tools) offers greatly expanded account management options than what the built-in Parental Controls offers. OS X Server is not required; it works great on the regular OS X.
There was a version for Panther too, but I never tried it, so I don't know if it will do what you need. But the screen shot on the download page suggests that it might. You might want to download it yourself and try it out:

You might also try asking your question in the "OS X 10.3 and earlier" forum here in the discussions. This forum is for Tiger only.

  • Cisco video camera monitoring software from remote location

    Hello
What is the best way to use the  Cisco video camera monitoring software from remote location.
I am talking about the AVMS / SWVMS software.
I am thinking of either a vpn tunnel or Remote Desktop (Terminal Services).
I would like to use the vpn tunnel, but am afraid that the encryption/decryption of all data will drastically slow down the data throughput.
    THanks,
    Cliff
    CCO: clifford.gormley

    Hi Clifford,
Thank you for posting. I use the AVMS software remotely and it works good. At first I changed the http ports of each camera and forwarded those ports in the router. I set up the cameras in the remote AVMS software with the WAN IP address and port number. That worked quite well. I then decided to try to reach the cameras through a VPN tunnel. I found that it worked perfectly and I was able to view up to 6 cameras. Your results will vary depending on how much bandwidth you have at each end. The important thing is the upload speed at the camera end of the tunnel. I have anywhere from 3-4 Mbps at any given time for the upload speed at the camera side and 30-40 Mbps download speed at the AVMS server side. I have also used UltraVNC to view the AVMS server through the tunnel and that worked well. Note that if you view the AVMS software using RDP you will see a black screen where the video should be. This is a limitation of RDP, not the software.
Please reply if you have any questions.
