Free Memory Space

Can i get the memory usage status from my card?
i use Gem+ RAD211 PK Card (JC211, VOP 2.0.1),
is there any general method to get card's memory status?
or need to ask the card vendor?
Thanks a lot.

Such feature is out of the scope of any global specifications (such as Javacard or Global Platform), thus it is vendor-specific.
For example, the amount of free memory on OCS cards (not on all types, however) could be retrieved using the following command:
CLA:80 INS:CA P1:DF P2:64 Le:05
Gemplus could implement this feature in some another way or couldnt implement at all, I don't know.

  • HT201364 Free up memory space on start up disk

How do you remove items from start up disk to free memory space?

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Free Disk Space vs Mac Memory Usage

    Hi,
I'm wondering if you might be able to help me - I'm so confused with this issue.
I have a MacBook 2008 with an upgraded 320GB HDD, with currently 203GB free disk space.
My back up disk is 120GB - perfect for a time machine back up of 117 GB of data. However, the TM says theres not enough memory because the full size of the back is 150GB? How can this be?
For some reason, the free disk space figure is different to the memory usage figures in About My Mac?
Can anyone explain to me why this is?
My other half uses this computer and has only pictures and files on it, no music or movies? So how can she have utilised 117GB of data? This was previously a shared Mac, but I've deleted my user acc since upgrading and wanted to make this Mac entirely hers.
Any help regarding this will be truly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Tarmak

CarbonCopyClone.  It is "donateware" ... pay if you want to.  Others use SuperDuper! (both a free and a paid version).  I prefer CCC, but do not let that stop you from paying for SuperDuper if others convince you as both are very competent.
It makes a bootable copy of your system partition, and used repeatedly will make "incremental" backups that take far less time than the original backup.  I have a TimeMachine backup (I consider it "secondary") and a CCC backup whic I consider "primary" and will eventually save me when my system partition gets cranky and refuses to boot -- use the option key at startup to choose the external disk to boot from.
When you boot from the external drive, which will have CCC running in it, you can then "clone back" to the new internal drive.

    dave0915,
iTunes stores your iPhone backups in the Library folder in your Home folder.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

The photo sync is one-way: Computer to phone. Photos synced to your phone will have to be extracted from your phone using third-party software, if you want them on your computer, as Apple makes no provision to do so. Since you're using a Mac, you can use this:

  • I bought Itunes match, when can I delete the songs from my Ipad? It's memory is full and I bought Itunes match in order to free some memory space

I bought Itunes match, when can I delete the songs from my Ipad? It's memory is full and I bought Itunes match in order to free some memory space. I already activate the itunes match in the Ipad, but it still keeps the songs. Can I erase them?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Go to settings > general > usage > storage and select music. You will see how much space is being used. Swipe to delete.
This will clear cache. Streaming uses up storage space. If you have specifically downloaded tracks you can delete them individually. Will still appear on your ipad but with the download icon.

  • Want to free up space on HD-how find what taking up most memory?

    Have a 13 inch Macbook Pro....10.6.8 ....2.53.GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo......4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.    Snow Leopard installed.
..Is there anyway I can find how much space is being taken up by various files and applications?
I have transferred  some files to external HD  and trashed others.  Sometimes this frees up space but not always.
Serial ATA  shows    Capacity 249.22 GB     Available  98.23 GB
Thanks for any info or where i can find info on this topic.

Omni Disk Sweeper will do what you ask, but usually the only thing you can change is the contents of the Users folder. Moviing the applications or system files will result in problems.
Video takes up a lot, if you got some sort of auto-sync going on in iTunes.
If your trying to increase the performance, maxing out the RAM will help as your GPU is sharing the main memory, so the more you have the better.
Also running all of OnyX cleaning and maintainence will also help. Make sure your boot drive is set as the startup disk in system preferences.
If your brave, Carbon Copy Cloning your boot drive to a new blank external powered HFS+j formatted drive, option booting from it and checking it out, Repairing Permissions and then reverse cloning back onto the internal drive, booting internally and followed by all of OnyX like before will optimize the drive/OS and free up contiguous disk space, make the machine faster too.

    Select it and press Delete.
Note that you will need to redownload it (iTunes > Purchased)  to play it.
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, you can stream it or downlaod it.

  • Help to free up space/memory??

how do i free up space on my macbook pro? i'm new to apple can you please provide step by step instructions?

Download OnyX for Mac. It's a free and very powerful application that will automatically analyse and with your permission, clear out unnecessary files from your system that are no longer required. Also note that when using this application you should not use your Mac for other tasks as the movement of a lot of files is in progress.
If you look at this and it seems too advanced, try DiskDiet from the Mac App Store. It's real cheap and simple and is bound to save you at least a few GB!
After clearing system files, if your Mac is still near full, you'll need to buy a bigger HDD. These are cheap today and simple to replace in Macs. Copying your important data to an external HDD in order to move it to the new one would be a wise idea.
    Good luck!

  • High cache usage of free memory

I dont know if this is normal but my fresh archlinux x86_64 install with Xfce uses round 300Mb of 4Gb ram space after boot but then after i start and close some programs i get to 3 Gb used of 3.87 Gb free memory when all applycation are closed. Now i understand that kernel caches some data in memory but i cant clear it all with commands:
    sync
    echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
After i do that system reports 540 Mb used compared to 300Mb from boot. Is there a way to limit the ammount of cache usage so i dont end up having all free memory used by cache?

Ram that is unused is wasted ram, the linux kernel manages it very well so no worries there.
If you have swap usage it's because most probably you have things stored in the ram that are not being used often but cannot be discarded too so things being used more often take precedence.
If you think you have enough ram for all your needs then why not disable swap? I've read that there might be a speed penalty for running without swap but I've been running my system without swap (arch64 4G ram) and I've never had any bad surprises.
There are a few things that might prompt swap usage (don't quote me on that though, it just seems to me to be the case), if you copy many files from one place to the other the kernel will use all the ram available to try to cache them, if you copy many GB then all the ram will get filled (and maybe other things will get evicted to swap).
It's not a bug, free ram is there to be used, things that have been used/needed recently get to stay in the ram, other things can go to the swap, if you can cache a file that has been recently used and need to use it again shortly after then it's much faster if it is in the ram instead of having to read it again from the hard disk. The logic behind it is good, it's just that some corner cases may make behave badly.

  • How do I back up itunes library to an external hard to free memory on my Macbook?

I have just noticed that a majority of my memory is being used by my itunes library. I was told that I can transfer and use an external to free up space on my macbook.I am in need of some type of step by step or a good link to walk me through it.I don't want to lose any of the movies or music I have accumulated, I am fairly new to the Apple world and just need some beginner help. Thanks

    Nah that's fine I think.
The other thing to make sure of, is that you aren't doubling up on your music/video/podcasts.
If you have a neat folder where all your stuff is great. But if you have set itunes to Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library, then there is going to be 2 copies. Your original, and your copy, as far as I can remember.
    You should double check that.
Because your backups will be backing up twice as much.
Also note, time machine backups back up all files that have been changed. If you are downloading a 5GB movie, if you download an extra 4MB and do backup again, it will backup another 5GB file.
I always have my download folder as not part of the backup due to this.
You could also add a 2nd HDD in your Macbook: http://eshop.macsales.com/owcpages/datadoubler/

  • HT1660 Store my iTunes in iCloud and not my computer so save to memory space?

How can I store my iTunes in iCloud and not my computer to save on memory space?  I want my iPhone and iPad to Sync with iCloud and not my PC..... What is the sequence I need to follow?

    Hello Bondisun,
It sounds like you would like to free up disk space on your computer by listening to your purchases directly from the Cloud, rather than storing them on your computer. First check the preferences setting to Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases in your iTunes preferences:
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Display items purchased from the iTunes Store that haven’t been downloaded to your computer. These items have a Download button next to them.
From: iTunes 11 for Windows: iTunes Store preferences
              http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12468
Then you can delete all the songs in your library, and empty your trash to free up the disk space.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Delete songs, playlists, or other items
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12159
If you have music in your library that was NOT purchased from iTunes, this will not work for them. In order to store those songs in the Cloud and listen to them via streaming as outlined above, you would need the iTunes Match service.
Here is some more information on that:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
As far as your iOS devices, simply sign into your accout in Settings > iTunes and App Stores and that will sync your devices to your iTunes account.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
