Free Nokia MAPS with Nokia N95

Hello,
I have a Nokia N95 device and I wood like to know if it's possible to use the free walk or drive feature with Nokia MAPS on this device
Thanks for answer

When they say voice navigation they actually mean navigation to include voice navigation, so you have to pay to use your phone for navigation. However, unlike other sat navs where you have to pay for map updates, with Nokia Maps, all map updates are free for as long as your license is valid.

  • Free country maps download error in Nokia n95 afte...

I have downloaded maps application from Nokia maps support site (nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom) and installed in my nokia n95. I had the previous version in my device was 2.xx (sorry i forgot the correct version). I had India map in my device with the old version. After installing i run the application in and it deleted the old maps data in the device as they are not compatible with this version.
Then i opened ovi suite and selected maps. There listed "Maps have been updated-Download updated maps". I selected "download updated maps". Then a new window came and listed "Install device application" next. I selected next. Then it listed "Checking old maps and voice guidance files.. this may take several minutes.". I waited for it to get complete. After waiting about  minutes it showed the error that "Internet connection lost - updating could not be completed because the internet connection was lost.... and so on" Try again. I hit Try again. Then it said "Maps have been updated" Finish. I selected finish. Then it returned to maps in ovi suite. There it listed the same message "Maps has been updated ..Download updated maps" which was shown early. No maps data for any countries are listed.
But there were no problem with my internet connection. I did these processes for three times. All times i got the same error. But there were no problem with my internet connection. I have done these with windows xp service pack 3, and also with windows7 ultimate and the ovi suite  2.2.0.245. My device OS version is V 31.0.017, 16-12-08, RM-159, Nokia N95(01.01).
I hope someone will provide a solution for this problem.
    Thank you.

or you could try the Nokia Maps Updater which can also add and update maps to your phone , and can be downloaded from the Nokia website !

  • Using Nokia N95 with Mac - maps etc...

Does anybody know if the new Nokia N95 can be synced up with Mac. The nokia website only mentions the PC suite for windows. I have managed to download photos via the usb cable, but would like to download maps for the built-in satnav, transfer videos music etc...
My dusty 5 year old PC laptop has been in the cupboard for 2 years since I bought my first Mac and I'd rather not go back and upgrade eveything just to make the most of this cool new device.
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - where else would I post it?

You can only use MapLoader on Windows.
I am using it under Parallels Desktop Build 3188. The thing is, smart2go who i think provides the map is still on beta stage. Out of the box, it has been my pratice to reformat my phone, so I have lost the maps. When I tried to download Philippines map (1.3 mb) it took me an hour to complete the download.

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Maps V2.0 problems.

I have had the new Nokia N95 8Gb for just over 2 weeks - I had it from my local Carphone Warehouse in Broughton (near
Chester). The problems I have with Nokia Maps V2.0 are as follows :-
    1. Very slow on calculating a route - I am visiting numerous factory sites around the UK, so I saved the postcodes. On this particular occassion, I wanted to plan a known route home from one of the sites (53 miles), and I was nearly home when it had planned the route.
    2. When a route has been calculated, the cursor showed itself just to the side of the road I was on, thus telling me I was not on a road.
    3. Keeps changing the orientation - from pointing in the diretion I want to go (forward), to the direction I have been (backwards).
    4. Planned road display changes from full width to narrow line - at this point, it no longer knows where it is and tries to recalculate route until the road changes back to full width.
I looked at the various forums (both Nokia and others), and there are many threads reporting the problems I have described above. I tried all of the suggestions including :-
    1. Switching off Assisted GPS - in the Positioning methods - seemed to make no difference.
    2. Use an external GPS receiver - much better in locating position, but still the same problems in reliability detailed above.
    3. Switched off the go online when starting up Nokia Maps - this just made locating position take much longer.
    4. Full hard reset of the phone, twice - no improvement.
    5. Download Nokia Maps V2.0 and re-install - no improvement.
The overriding conclusions from the various forums was that Nokia Maps V2.0 is a backward step and that Nokia Maps V1.2 was so much better. As a consequence, I downloaded Nokia Maps V1.2 and loaded this up. I used it for a 400 mile round trip with no problem at all - directions were clearly displayed, route calculation was quick and it never lost it's position. Unfortunately, I can only use the route planning for 3 days - free test from Nokia when I connected to see licence details. The
only issue I have is that as my car has Bluetooth, I cannot use the voice navigation whilst using Nokia Maps, however, this is not an issue as I just keep checking the screen.
As I am pretty reliant on being able to get to the various sites without complications, there is no way that I will reload Nokia Maps V2.0 until I can be assured of its reliability. Unfortunately, I can not use the route
planning either as my licence relates to Nokia Maps V2.0. What I want is to either transfer my 2 licences to Nokia Maps V1.2, or have a refund for Nokia Maps V2.0 and then purchase licences for Nokia Maps V1.2.
Any assistance would be gratefully received. I have been in contact with Nokia Care who have suggested reloading maps 2.0, however I have already done this. They now suggest updating the phone software, however, it is at v 30.0.018 (pre-loaded) which is the latest version. I am due to take it in to my local Nokia Care Centre tomorrow and let them look at it.

  • Help with my nokia n95 please.

    Hi all.
I am with 3g network, i had a free upgrade a few months ago, did not like the mobile they sent me ( nokia 6288 ).
So i bought a brand new nokia n95 from ebay, locked to vodafone network.
I had it unlocked saturday and put my 3g sim card in it.
The phone is working, but i could not send picture messages or brow,s the web.
I managed to sort those 2 probs out with the help of the nokia website, had to download 2 codes for my phone.
does anyone know how i can get my gps to work with the 3g network ?.
I did phone my network provider, and was told it will not work, becouse my n95 needs to be locked to the 3g network.
    Can anyone help me please.
    Regards
    Ken.

    Hi kenbo
Although "voice navigation" requires purchasing a license, GPS feature is not network dependent. You can however have a free "3 day trial"
Firstly if you are using v12.0.013 software on your N95 it is a lot quicker to obtain fix with A-GPS feature, although an active connection via WLAN or Network is needed.
Go outside away from buildings and tress with clear view of sky. Open slider and hold phone at 45degrees, don't cover "#" key as GPS antenna beneath it. Low cloud or rain will make satellite acquisition a lot longer.
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > (searching for + calculating data) > Position > Options > Satellite status
This shows any number of satellites up to five - empty rectangle = not locked on - black filled rectangle = signal acquired; you need a minimum of 3 solid bars for lock-on and triangulation to work!
Depending upon which version of Nokia Maps is installed on your N95 you may either have satellite icon bottom right of your screen or satellite icon with three yellow or green lights.

  • O/s map with Nokia GPS

    Hi
Could anyone please let me know if it is possible to use the coordinates off a UK Ordanance Survey map and use them to put a fix in to the Nokia N95 GPS. I can't make any correlation between the numbers, or put another way 'my gps position' dosn't seem to match any numbers on the map grid ?
    Many thanks
    Steve

    Steve,
You can use this app to convert all the different lat long styles as well as lat long to OS standards.
    http://utmdata.blogspot.com/
The UTM data app is pretty in depth.
Also the lat long written on the edge of every OS map is great for most devices... except Nokia (by default) as it uses decimal lat long... and there is no way to change it.
Using an app like UTM data will at least allow you to get the right lat long format you need and then translate that to the paper map or via the application. In fact (just looked) it gives you your current OSGB position :-)
hope this helps.... not explained very well but try the app out its free.

    Hi Nick,
Not certain what is causing the problem, but I do know that your phone needs to download maps, so you should connect using GPRS or Wifi to download the maps and then you should have maps for your locality, but you will need to connect again if you move outside of the locality. The best advise I would say is to get an internet add on for your phone so you won't be charged extra.
you may be able to download maps and load them on also. You may also need to turn off the network assisted GPS so you are only using the built in GPS not the internet to find where you are.

  • Upload other maps to Nokia N95 for GPS use

As you all know (I hope you do) Nokia maps does not supply maps for Bolivia, yes, I live in a big, but small country in the heart of South America.
Yesterday, a Garmin local representative offered me a copy (legal copy) of Bolivian maps ($20 per city).
Does anybody knows what format should I ask, and how to upload the maps, if possible, in order to use them with my N95 GPS Maps App???

If u want the map for Maps software in installed in ur N95
then it is useless because the only way to upload a map to ur mobile is by using Nokia Map Loader software.
try to get TomTom or route66 .

  • Nokia N95 and Maps Software

Hi, Just recently I bought licence to Maps from Nokia for one month just to check how it works. The day I bought this I could not open Maps software for a single time. Because whenever I click on maps, its load 90% then it hang. I tried again and again nothing it does not open, I restart the mobile, nothing happen. Can you please inform me what can I do? Thanking you.

    @countryjet123
Would need to know whether you are using Nokia Maps v2.0 or Ovi Maps v3 from here:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-n95/
Map data is different between these versions and most common cause of application crashing is corrupt or incorrect data.
You may need to delete E:\cities + .qf file, re-open Maps application to re-initialise application and re-define necessary folder structure for Ovi Suite > Maps to re-download regional mapping.

  • Now June 2010, nokia n95 and the "free navigation"

since the release of ovi 3.03, im sure many nokia n95 owners have been patiently awaiting free navigation, especially as it has been heavily advertised that smartphones will have free navigation forever.
now june 2010, there has been no new press coverage regarding nokia's stance for the n95 model since its exclusion from the list of supported phones. can we expect to receive no support at all in the future and give up hope? is it nokia's intent to dismiss these loyal customers and expect them to purchase phones which are supported? where do n95 customers stand with regards to free navigation now?

Correction. It was advertised that smartphones in the list of supported phones will get free navigation.
I own an N95 myself and would like very much to get free navigation for it. However the reality is free navigation was not on offer when I bought the phone and I bought it knowing that I had to pay for navigation. When free navigation was announced for selected current model phones, I was aware that the N95 was not on it. I don't know if the reasons for the exclusion are technical or commercial but it has been pretty much confirmed that no other FP1 phones will not be getting it.
However, as a very nice gesture, Nokia did significantly reduce the license charges for navigation which are now only around €10 per year or €2 a month for a whole region such as the whole of europe, which I think is very reasonable.

  • NEW FREE NOKIA MAPS (v. 3.0)

    Heyaa.....
I got the Nokia 5800 XM....just wondering if i will be charged for using the new free nokia maps??? if so how much??
    Many thanks

I would still get a data plan , maps 3.03 gives a lot more than navigation if you allow it to use the web ( plus the whole phone experience is vastly improved if the phone is allowed internet access), but it will work purely with built in gps.
    Good Luck

  • Who can solve iSync problem with Nokia N95? (I use the Nokia plug already)

    Hello
Since I bought my new cool Mac:, I sync my N95 with iSync and the Nokia N95 plug-in. Thinking at first that is works flawlessly (as other members here seem to think as well) I later found out, that if I make changes to any calendar or "to do" description! on either the N95 or the Mac it syncs, but only up until a certain number of characters. If I exceed this number, the description on the phone will simply be cut off - in the iCal it still fully appears though.
Rather surprising, since when syncing with a PC via the Nokia PC suite there is no such an issue. All my often lengthy descriptions are fully put on the phone. And if I sync back there are no problems either. So I guess it has to do with the iSync protocol or this Nokia N95 iSync plug-in? Any ideas, solutions...? Any help greatly appreciated!

The flex cable is damaged. Some years back when I had a Nokia N95 8GB the flex cable was damaged and for a few days the screen was showing strange colours at the display and eventually the screen became black. I went to a local repair shop and I replaced the flex cable and what I noticed was that the flex cable that it had no proximity sensor on it so I told the technician to remove the proximity sensor on the original one and replace it with the new flex cable. Another thing I discovered was that after fitting the flex cable and returning the cover the front camera was not in its usual position so the technician had to do some modifications to get it back to its normal position and after a few months it was damaged and this time I went to Nokia Care Centre and replaced the flex cable for a small fee and what I noticed was that the flex cable that I previously bought was a fake cable. The one bought from Nokia Care Centre had its proximity sensor and when the cover was returned the camera was in its exact position the same as it was with the original flex cable. What I wanted to say is that please beware of fake flex cables on the market and I suggest that you buy it from an authorised Nokia Dealer.
