Free online book about accessible design

Thanks to Adobe and some other sponsors, there's a new, free,
online book
being offered about accessible design:

Over the last few weeks I have had some very helpful
answers to my questions from the community on this
forum. I thought I'd put a little back in. I found
this online book and it is outstanding in its
explaination of Java. Anyone learning Java should
(imho) read it. And it is free!!

Well worth a read.
Cheers,
HughIt's a good book to buy too. I hate reading online, but after seeing how good this book is, I ordered it and found it was very reasonably priced.

  • Recommend a free online book

I read the tutorial on Java Security but I couldn't understand it. I think I have to know first what authentication, authorization, SSL (and other related matters) are and how they work. I already did a seach on google for this but there are many. Please recommend to me any free online book (for novice) where I can get a basic knowlege about security and how they works. Thanks for the help

Google for JCE and stuff from the IBM site. They have pretty good tutorials.

  • Can free online books be downloaded to memory of ipad2 so that book can be accessed when not within wi-fi range

can free online books be downloaded to memory of ipad2 so that book can be accessed when not within wi-fi range

It depends on what books you're referring to. All books from the iTunes Store are downloaded to your iPad and except for any special features the book may contain that requires an Internet connection will be readable without such a connection.
If you're talking about books from some other source, we'd need to know the source before we could offer opinions.

How about "Beginning SharePoint Designer 2010"? However, only two chapters are about workflows.

    Hello,
Where could I find a free Forms online book please?
    Thank you,

Google Translation can help here, although with some difficulties that could confuse absolute beginners. Such as "Units of program" for "Program Units" and "Alarms for "Alerts".

  • Books about MVVM, architecture, design patterns for Windows Phone 8.1

    Hi,
I'm looking for a book or books (or other resources) that explain how to develop an app with a proper architecture. I mean what each layer (bussines layer, data layer, network access) should do and how should it look like. I'm also looking for a book about
    MVVM.
Right now I'm struggling with how to create a layer for network communication - how to separate classes for requests and responses, how to manage requests and create some queue of requests and also to provide some way to cancel them when they are no longer
needed, how to work with servers that use some level of security (cookies, certificates etc.).
Another thing is caching - how to design a short-term cache or a persistant cache (database), what technologies I can use etc.
Last thing that I'm struggling with is also naming. How to name classes in those layers, e.g. to distinguish between classes mapping data from some ORM database, for mapping on JSON in network communication. etc.
I hope you got the idea :)
    Thanks.

Currently, I don't find a book about MVVM pattern for Windows Phone 8.1, but I think MSDN and some blogs have some useful samples and conceptions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj883732.aspx
    http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Windows-Phone-8-1-Development-for-Absolute-Beginners
And I think your question includes too much scopes, maybe you need to split it into some blocks and get help in the related forum
    Best Regards,
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help

  • Online book

    Hello,
Where could I find a free online Designer book please?
    Thank you,
    André Luiz

I'm not sure about any free online Designer books, but there are some demo on OTN under both the Designer and SCM areas. In addition,. some of the older Designer books, still avaibale from Amazon and similar are still worth reading. Amazon has a pretty good second hand section, and I've always been pretty happy with the quality I get using that.
    Books like
"The Oracle(R) Designer/2000 Handbook" by Carrie Anderson, David Wendelken
"Rapid Application Development with Oracle Designer/2000" by Chris Billings, Maria Billings, Julia Tower
"Oracle Designer Handbook" by Peter Koletzke (Dr.), Dr. Paul Dorsey
all come in at under $10 for a second hand copy.
Although these books were written some time ago, the methodology and techniques used are the same. Screen shots will be different, but what you do hasn't changed much.
    Regards
    Sue

  • Aperture for iPhoto Users - free online seminar

Among the big questions that come up frequently on this forum (and others) is the how Aperture really differs from iPhoto.
To help get the questions answered, Apple just posted a free online seminar designed to help iPhoto users understand the key differences between Aperture and iPhoto -- and to show you the best ways of using the two applications together. Migrating images from one app to the other is covered in detail.
    The seminar is available at:
    http://www.seminars.apple.com/seminarsonline/aperture15iphoto/apple/index.html?s =203
Hope this is helpful for some of you.

Those were helpful clips. I think the short clips (the tips) could have been a little more informative about the differences, though. No mention of the lack of the Ken Burns effect in Aperture or that zooming in Aperture consists of either full size or zoom-to-fit versus the continuous zoom slider in iPhoto. I miss both of these iPhoto features.

  • Best book for graphics design

Hi my name is Aby. I am from India. I am working as a graphics designer in a start up company. I have not done any course in designing. I learnt of my own by seeing youtube videos and examples. I really want to learn professional designing, for which i guess i need to do a course. So please suggest me where i can learn and excel in designing. Otherwise please suggest me any book in which i can learn best designing. Here is my behance portfolio : Aby Abraham on Behance

Yes.  I'll go along with Lawrence.  You have a nice set of work on Behance.   What skills do you have so far Aby?  Do you have other Adobe applications?   You really need Illustrator, and probably Indesign, (again as suggested by Lawrence).  I am not sure about suggesting a book because graphic design is such a large subject, and goes way beyond just knowing how to use the applications.  In my experience, having the ideas is the most important starting point, as that will give you focus on what you need to learn.  It will also hard wire it into you, in a sort of use it or lose it way, because so much of what you learn in a linear fashion from a book, is going to be forgotten a week later if you've had no need to make use of it.
Unfortunately, this means lots of frustration and pulling your hair out in the early days, but once you get into it, you will start taking it in really quickly.
For Photoshop, I'd recommend all of the Steve Caplin books.   These are How to Cheat at Photoshop, 100% Photoshop, and Art & Design in Photoshop.  Steve also has a more recent book called '3D Photoshop', which I have not got round to buying yet, but  How to Cheat, and 100% are must have titles for a Photoshop illustrator.
    http://stevecaplin.com/
What sets Steve apart from other Photoshop authors is that he is constantly employed by the world's media to create illustrations for newspapers and magazines.
I'll also agree with Lawrence about Lynda.com.  Look for titles by Nigel French (I love his Photoshop for Designers - Type Essentials).  There are also some good titles on logo design.
I don't feel qualified to recommend books on Illustrator and InDesign, but there are forums for those apps.
Good luck and I hope you make it.

  • Looking for a good book about threads

    Hello all,
I am looking for a good book about threads.
I would like something which is both practical, but also provides some theoretical basis.
I am an experienced programmer, with some, but not much, experience with concurrent design.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I found the "Java Threads" book by Oaks and Wong to be fantastic:
