i am planing to use share point as a project management tool in my new project, and i got a windows XP machine which i don't think can't install sharepoint foundation server for it,
so i am looking for a online sharepoint providers which i may have access to a virutal machine box or online way to login to sharepoint server and run my own sharepoint hosted environment,
any one knows about this ? i don't mind pay as far as its affordable ?

You'd need a Server OS (and license) to install SharePoint 2013 foundation. You're correct that you can't use XP, it has to be Server 2008 R2 or later.
One option you should look at is Office 365, where MS host SharePoint for you and do the hard bits then rent the space out to you on a per-user basis.

  • Sharepoint server 2013 configuration issue - failed to create configuration database

    Hi All,
I have installed the SharePoint server 2013. After installing the SharePoint products, the configuration stops at failure of creating configuration database.
    Some system configuration & info:
    - 1 Domain controller server run Active Directory services on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC1 with name DC.Brainfiniti.com)
    - 1 Server which is used for installing Sharepoint server 2013 and MS SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC2 with name App.Brainfiniti.com)
    - All of PCs were satisfied the requirement of Sharepoint server 2013
    - Firewall turned off & No antivirus tool was installed.
    - During installing of Sharepoint, choose "Complete" option: Farm mode and use SQL Server instead of SQL Express.
    - During configuration, created a new farm with a domain user account.
    - Use domain account to log on and install, configure in Sharepoint & SQL server (PC2)
    ATTEMPTS:
    1. Tried install and set up all of steps with just 1 account - domain administrator.
    2. Tried with separate domain account:
    - SQL Service account use for:
    + Install SQL server 2008
    + Connect all SQL services
    + Admin for SQL server
    - Setup account use for:
+ Member of local administrator group in PC2
    + Install Sharepoint
    + Run Configuration wizard
+ Was granted permission in SQL database: dbcreator, securityadmin, sysadmin and deselect serveradmin role.
+ Was choose for the database account in configuration database step
Also tried with SQL service account in this step.
    3. Tried with Standalone mode for Sharepoint installing
    4. Trie with domain name: Brainfiniti.local
    5. Tried with some another solution from topic relate to database configuration in our community but not successful.
But all attempts are failed at this configuration database step :'(
Please correct me if I am going wrong by missing something or do I need to start/install some services.

Sorry! Cannot add screenshot because my account is still not verified. Will add later.

  • SharePoint Server Publishing infrastructure - Sorry, you don't have access to this page

If I enable site feature on Any site  in any site collection on Sharepoint farm,
every one get lock out (include Farm admin, ect)  with error Sorry, you don't have access to this page.
I have to  go to Web application -> User Policies Add: NT Authority\Authenticated Users, so that I can
log in to site, disable feature and everything start to work.
On : Site Collection Administration -> Site Collection Features
-> SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure : is activated
Infrastructure : I use  Host name site collection, all effected sites are located in the same web application.
I think  problem is with “SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure”. Because if I enable
that feature on site collection, then o have problem choosing together
SharePoint Server Standard Site Collection features and SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection features
If SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure is enabled, if a activate Standard Site Collection features , then choosing Server Enterprise Site Collection features, produce error : Sorry, something went wrong.
But I can  enabled both features “Standard Site  & Server Enterprise” before enabling SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure.

    Hi Mali,
According to your description, my understanding is that users cannot access the SharePoint site if SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure is enabled.
If I misunderstood please feel free to correct me.
I recommend use PowerShell to activate the feature in SharePoint 2013 to see if the issue still occurs.

  • Apply local machine MS Word settings on SharePoint Server

    Hello Team,
We have Word document consisting of hyperlinks hosted on SharePoint that can be downloaded by Users. The expectation is that Users can download the document and click the hyperlink to access the content. However, the links do not immediately work upon clicking
    them.
The user can only access the content by right clicking to play in a new tab/window.
We noticed that there is a local word settings that can changed to automatically play the content by clicking on the hyperlinks. Is there a way to apply the local machine settings onto the SharePoint server so that users need to make any changes on their
local machine/word document to access the hyperlinks.
Thank you for your support in advance.

    Hi,
What version of Word are you using? Word 2013, Word 2010 or Word 2007?
Please also let me know which local setting you referred to. Take Word 2013 for example, we can go to FILE -> Options -> Advanced, there's a checkbox under "Editing options" called "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink". If you select it, you
need to press Ctrl + Click to open the hyperlinks, if you uncheck it, just click the hyperlink and it will open. It's a setting of Word instead of a file, as mentioned, if you download the file and open it in your local Word client, it should work according
    to this setting.
If I got anything wrong, feel free to correct me. Or you might get any error messages or warning, you can let me know.

  • How can I see shared review comments in a PDF when connected to a SharePoint server over a VPN?

I am using Acrobat Pro XI on Windows 7.
When I issue a shared review, hosted on our work SharePoint server, I always encounter problems when accessing my work network from home, over a VPN. My comments do not get published, and I cannot see comments that reviewers have published.
I issue the review PDF as an attachment when I open the review, and all reviewers save a local copy of this file. When I open the PDF, the "Welcome back to shared review..." screen is never updated with the number of comments. The server status always seems to show green, but the comment reporting mechanisms do not behave as they do at work. When I click Publish comments, I am usually asked if I wish to take ownership of unpublished comments by other reviewers (to which I click No). When I return to the office, everything seems to "just work" again. But this is hugely inconvenient if I am out of office for days on end.
I had this problem with my previous version of Acrobat, and no satisfactory solution was ever reached. I am most dismayed to find it is still present in version XI.
    Please can anyone advise?

I don't know if you solved this issue yet. But we have the same issue in the pass, and clean the log files under "\Synchronizer\resources\" folder seems to be a solution. Here is the thread talking about it.

  • Set up Search Service App For SharePoint server 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2 not working

    Hi all,
I installed SharePoint server 2013 on Windows  server 2012 R2 using VirtualBox.  I created a DC(domain controller) server with a domain set up on one VM and it has SQL server 2012 SP1 installed. Then SharePoint 2013 on another VM was set up to access
the DC server.  Everything seems working except Search Service App which cannot be sucessfully set up. Creation process for Search service app says Successful and 4 search databases were created and look fine. But when I navigate to search service app
admin page, it gives error info:
System status:  The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '386f2cd6-47ca-4b3a-aeb5-d9116772ef16' in search application 'Search Service Application 1' is in
a good state and try again.
Search Application Topology:  Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running.
From event viewer, I see following errors:
    (1) Error From source: SharePoint Server
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance  Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance

    been upgraded.
Since separate DC server and SharePoint server do not work, I installed SharePoint 2013 on DC server ( so DC server has everything on it now ) but it gives exactly same result. Later I installed SharePoint 2013 SP1 and still have the same problem with Search
Service app. I spent two weeks tried all suggestions available from Web and Google but SharePoint Search Service simply does not work. Config and other databases work but why Search Service has this issue seemingly related to search DB.
Could anybody please help out? You deserve a top SharePoint consultant award if you could find a solution. I am so frustrated and so tired by this issue.    This seems also to be a SP set up issue.
    Thanks a lot.

Using new Search Service App wizard to create SSA is always a success. I could delete existing SSA and recreate it and no problem. It says successful but when I open Search Admin page from CA, it gives me errors as mentioned.
Now I used the following PS script for creating SSA from Max Mercher, but it stays at the last setps in following script:
    Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
$IndexLocation = "C:\Search"  #Location must be empty, will be deleted during the process!
    $SearchAppPoolName = "SSAPool"
    $SearchAppPoolAccountName = "mydomain\admin"
    $SearchServiceName = "SSA"
    $SearchServiceProxyName = "SSA Proxy"
    $DatabaseServer = "W12R2DC1"
    $DatabaseName = "SSA"
    $spAppPool = Get-SPServiceApplicationPool -Identity $SearchAppPoolName -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    if (!$spAppPool)
     $spAppPool = New-SPServiceApplicationPool -Name $SearchAppPoolName -Account $SearchAppPoolAccountName -Verbose
    $ServiceApplication = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Identity $SearchServiceName -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    if (!$ServiceApplication)
    # process stays at the following step forever, already one hour now.
    $ServiceApplication = New-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Name $SearchServiceName -ApplicationPool $spAppPool.Name -DatabaseServer  $DatabaseServer -DatabaseName $DatabaseName
Account mydomain\admin is an farm managed account, domain admin account, in WG_ADMIN role, It is in all SQL server roles and is DBO. I see search DBs are already on SQL server. From Event viewer, I got following errors in sequence:
    (1) Crawler:Content Plugin under source Crawler:Content Plugin

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that  SharePoint server 2013 Search Service App did not work on Windows server 2012 R2.
Please make sure you configure Search Service Application correctly. You can refer to:Create and configure a Search service application in SharePoint Server 2013
I recommend to created new Search Service Application, and made a full crawl. Then assigned the new SSA as the default SSA for webapplications. Finnlay checked  the issue doesnt occur now,
If all search related components now are online, to keep the enviroonment clean, you can delete the old SSA.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Why to use SharePoint Server over SharePoint Foundation within Team Foundation Server?

What are the  advantages to use SharePoint Server 2013 over SharePoint Foundation 2013 within Team Foundation Server? I can't find any features comparison: in other words, what features are I'll be missing in TFS without SharePoint.

    Look this links
    Compare SharePoint
    Foundation 2013 vs. Server 2013

  • SharePoint Server 2013 single server installation licenses and system requirements

We are thinking of setting up a SharePoint Server 2013 for the following features to be accessed by our test team (<100 users)
Our requirements are as follows -
Total user access <100 users(starts with 50 and may be go upto 100)
Mainly Access to TeamSite(Document library), WiKi, BI reports view(SSRS Reports integration)
We have a Visual Studio Ultimate license that covers SQL Server 2012 and Share Point server 2013.
We have also got a Amazon EC2 machine access to create a Xlarge box with Microsoft recommended Cores, Memory, storage for SINGLE INSTALLATION of SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL server database on Windows Server 2012
    My queries are as follows
Are the licenses above sufficient to go ahead with setting up the SP Server? or do i need any other licenses ?
I would like to create local LDAP in amazon without connecting to the company active directory. Would this be possible? We have users from other locations(different countries) providing services to our company and we would like them to access this portal
to share and access docuemnts without any network issue etc..
Are there any known firewall issues with EC2 machines for share point deployment
System requirements for single server installation (with or without BI reports)
Please note this implementation is only for internal use by the test team and is not critical. Not a production implementation.
    Is there any better solution?
    Much appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Vara

MSDN subscription licenses for SharePoint aren't, as far as i know, for use as production devices. This means that whilst you can use it for testing and development you can't use that license for the SharePoint server that you'll all be using.
As such I think you will need to buy a SharePoint 2013 server license. The same goes for SQL, Windows etc.
There is also the question of user licenses, ie. CALs. I don't remember if those come included as part of an MSDN subscription.
    2) Possibly. As long as Amazon can host a domain for you it should be possible.
    3) Pass. Microsoft prefer you to use Azure and most of my training and experience is with that.
    4) High. 4 cores, 24GB of RAM minimum.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#hwforwebserver
You'll either need a 2XLarge or a memory orientated box, in which case you won't have much storage space.
Internal team infrastructure is still important. If you're using it enough to make it worth having then you need it there and running.
Have you considered using Office 365?

  • SharePoint Server 2013 Search Box has disappeared

    Hi guys,
SharePoint Server 2013 Search Box has disappeared and not showing on any sites. Even when I try to go to Search centre site I get an error "sorry something went wrong...
Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator. "
My search SA is working fine and crawl running with no error. It seems like there was same issue on SP foundation 2013 where there is fixed released for that:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2760625?wa=wsignin1.0
But I have SP Server and i can confirm that I have installed SP1 (KB288055) in my farm.
I wonder if I need to install any CU to fix this.... I haven't installed any CUs in my farm yet.
Shall I go for Feb 2015 CU update or Sept 2014 CU? or is there any fixes for that with no CU or I need to install my farm from the scratch....
    Please help.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    BalaiP

You have deactivated SharePoint Search from center Admin.
    Please activate it
