Free sound effects?

Can anyone recommend some sites with free high quality sound effects good enough for use in a FCP project?
Thanks.

In general, is there a bitrate or some other measure to determine the quality of a sound file without listening to it?
Uncompressed 48 kHz AIFF files can be used in FCP without conversion (audio for digital video is always 48 kHz). On the web you will more than likely find WAV files, they will work too. Anything else will need to be converted.
How do you determine if a sound file is good enough for your project?
Depends what the expectations for your project are. I have used 256 kbps AAC and MP3 files in corporate productions (after converting to 48kHz AIFF). Nobody complained.
Higher bit rates would be even better.
Of course if you are working in broadcast, then you should try to get the best possible sounds available. There are dozens of companies producing royalty free sounds and Foley effects on CD. But they won't be "free" by a long shot.

Does Final Cut Pro X (10.0.4) have Motion included in initial download... as well as 'royalty free sound effects... what else is included?
Where can I view / find this information?

No - Motion is now sold separately (~$50 + tax on the app store.) Yes, royalty free sound effects are part of the deal.
After you install FCPX, from the FCPX menu, select Download Additional Content to complete the install.

  • Free sound effect problem

    Hello,
I have previously used findsounds.com to get a wealth of sound effects for imovie projects. However, now I cannot get any of the sounds to import to my movies. Is there some setting I need to adjust in iMovie HD to make this work? Thanks.

I will have to add that one to the FAQ nice find. If QT can play it it "should" import. I always make a habit of converting it to an AIFF file before importing it to iMovie.
If if you can hear it but cannot get QT to play it then you need a program like Audio Hijack and have it save out an AIFF file for import.

  • Any good sound free sound effects links?

  • Premiere Elements Sounds effects question

Hi!  On the website 'features' page, it says the Premiere Elements comes with 250+ sound effects.  Is 'reverb' one of those effects?  And do I have to buy an 'enhanced' version of Premiere Elements to access those effects?  Thanks for reading!

    markg77482
What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system is it running?
For now I will assume Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.....
    1. You need to make the distinction between "audio effects" and "sound effects" in Premiere Elements 12.
The "audio effects" are found in the Expert workspace under fx Effects. The Reverb effect is found there. But
it is a Windows Only effect. One Mac user has reported the use of the New Blue Audio Polish effect and its Ambience
option for the workaround in Premiere Elements 12 Mac.
Sound Effects are found found under the Audio Tab of the Expert workspace and contain several categories.
Audio Tab/Sound Effects is where you are going to find "250+ Sound Effects".
Excerpt from my blog post on Premiere Elements 12 First Look
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: Premiere Elements 12 First Look Details
Sound Effects has 13 subcategories and a total of 267 or 268 free sound effects. The Sound Effects subcategories and the number of sound effects in them are Ambience (49), Animals (10), Cartoon Effects (20), Crashes (10), Fire and Explostions (18), Foley (30), Impacts (20), Industry (10), Liquids (10), Science Fiction (30), Technology (29 or 30), Transportation (11), and Weather (20).
Please review and consider and supply more information so that we are giving version/computer specific information.
    Thanks.

  • Sound effects sites

I am sure this topic has come up often. I do apologize if this topic is overkill but can anyone list any good sites for free sound effects for garageband? Thanks

There's a ton of them out there. Years ago I bought a program called KaBoom, that had software to assign sounds to everything you did on the computer. I nearly drove my wife crazy with it It came with a CD full of sound clips of such things.

  • Where can I find free back ground music and some sound effects?

    Hello out there.
Like a lot of amateur editors I am looking for a web site to download free instrumental back ground music for my projects.
I am looking for acoustic guitar, drum-n-bass, and also a few sound effects.
If you have used or know of any sites please let me know.
I am starting a project, so it's nothing I need in a hurry.
I don't add any music until the last.
Then I don't have to keep repositioning it on the time line as I make edits and cuts.
    Thank you any guidence.
    Jim

    Hi there,
After searching several sites I have used http://audiojungle.net for a couple of years now and have been very happy with my purchases. It's not free but the prices are really reasonable and it is all original stuff.
    Hope that helps

  • Logic sound effects copyright question

    Hi
I want to use some sound effects (wind and thunder) on one of my songs and I want to check on the copyright/marketing status of Logic's sound effects. I know that these are described as "royalty free", but does that mean that I can used them on
song that I'm putting on the open market(via Tunecore)without any required acknowledegent of their source or any other legal requirements?

They are royalty free - there are already a load of Apple Loops being used commercially - Rhianna's Umbrella uses Vintage Funk Kit 03 with some heavy EQ as does The Script's The Man Who Can't Be Moved (only they've played it live) various midi keyboard parts have been used with a lot of big acts - so go for it bud!

  • I am using logic to record a podcast and using soundboard to use as a playback for music and sound effects.  I'd like to soft patch sound board into logic, and still use my interface for recording audio from the other members of the podcast.

I am using logic to record a podcast.  I have a presonus firestudio mobile for my interface so I can record several people at the same time.  I'm also using Soundboard for a playback system for music and sound effects.  I'd like to know how to soft patch Soundboard into Logic while still using the Firestudio interface to record the other members of the podcast.  Does anyone know how to do this? and if so can you tell me how to do it?  Thanks.

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" I mean....what would you do? Is it safe to click yes....(Don Don Don...*sound effect*)..please help...

Okay everybody...so I'm on the struggle bus so I'm going from Photoshop cs6 off my old broken laptop to trying to dwn Photoshop Cs2...either way I love PS. Now when I tried downloading it for free from Adobe...succeeded...but when I went to the download folder to install it, it said "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" I mean....what would you do? Is it safe to click yes....(Don Don Don...*sound effect*)..please help...

If you already have a license for photoshop cs6, why do you want photoshop cs2?
You can just install photoshop cs6 on your new computer provided both operating systems are the same kind (both mac or both windows)
If you don't have an install dvd for cs6, you can download photoshop cs6 from here and use your serial:

  • Can't add songs or sound effects

Until a few days ago, I was able to drag and drop tracks I'd purchased on iTunes into my iMovie projects.  Now, even royalty-free music tracks are not playable once I import them into iMovie.
What has happened?  These videos are for my own personal use, and I do not sell them to anyone. How may I use the tracks in good faith that I've purchased?
    Thank you so much.

UPDATE: Now it appears that I *can* add music and sound effects as long as there is no overlap.  This is different.  How can I *layer* audio tracks on top of one another in iMovie the way I used to be able to do?
I can't imagine Apple would have changed this critical component of editing overnight for no good reason.  What say you?

  • Recording Sound Effects

    Hello:
I'm developing an iOS app, and a sound effect that I purchased is not able to used in the app.  Since I can't find a similar sound effect that can be used, can I record the sound effect on GarageBand and use it in the app?  It will be a paid app, not a free one.
    Thank you in advance.

Your question is more related to app development, plus the GarageBand for the iPad (This is a GarageBand. for OSX forum).
If I understand you right, then I would look at the IAA (Inter-App Audio) feature. This is the new standard that lets you route audio (and other data) between audio apps on iOS devices. The standard was developed by Apple and is supported by a growing nuymbers of audio apps, including GarageBand for iPad.
Another similar format is Audiobus, that is also supported by many audio apps.
    Hope that helps

  • Copy right on sound effects in iMovie

I just got a strange email from youtube. They claim a movie clip of mine contains material which possibly is the property of "GoDigital MG For a Third Party".
I only used sound effects and music from imovie. Isn't this material free to use and publish in my movie clips?
Does anybody know more about this? I cannot find any indication of the copy right inside imovie.
It also states that I don't have to do anything, my clip is still available world wide but they could advertise on my page.
Thanks for any help in advance. If this meant trouble I would remove the clip. Its only a holiday film. Or I would move to Vimeo.
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Are there any STP sound effects usage restrictions?

Are the sound effects in STP free to use? Like could I use them in a feature film if I wanted? A website? Anything? I'm not asking about other companies- I'm talking specifically about the sound effects that come with STP.
    Thanks!

    Found this eventually.

On page 44 of that apple PDF it states:
“Soundtrack Pro 2 includes a library of more than 1000 royalty-free surround music beds and sound effects. These professionally produced and recorded elements make it easy
to get started fast and keep quality high when you create a surround sound mix. The library also includes 5000 royalty-free Foley, sound effect, and music segments for stereo use. Easily add third-party music and effect libraries when you want more options.”

  • Are there any new sound effects or jingles in iMovie11?

I have just started using iMovie 11 and I recognise most of the sound effects from previous versions of iMovie.  Has anyone noticed if there are any new ones?  Thanks, Keith
