thanks for your help!

Hi OMEGA_ReD,
this is a known problem of MacOS X since it's initial launch several years ago. After this long time we tend to call this a "feature" instead of a bug
Another one of these annoying never-get-solved bugs is the fact that the Finder does not correctly apply view-options to Finder windows, regardless whether you select "Apply to all windows" or not - it simply does not work (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3678099&#3678099)

  • Free Space on Macintosh HD not showing up

After reinstalling a clean setup of Tiger, free space on Macintosh HD is not showing up on desktop, however the total size is. I have repaired the premissions and validated everything through disk utility, thus I did not resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi orians.anvari,
activate the hard disk icon and type Apple-i to get the Information window. Does the free hard disk space show up correctly? If so you ran into a known issue of MacOS X since it's very first release.
If you still cannot see the free space use WhatSize to determine where the space is used.

  • TS1503 After an update on my iPhone 4, (I updated using my MacBook Pro) I first received the message, iTunes was not able to load all of iTunes library back on your phone, not enough free space on your phone. (not an exact quote, essentially the same mean

The complete iTunes library was already on my iPhone 4. Why would it all not go back on? It left out around 4 or 5 songs from my play list. How do I get them back on my iPhone?
Note: All software on both devices is up to date.
Then, I tried to sync my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I got the message, cannot sync your iPhone because there is not enough free space in the iTunes library (not exact quote, but same meaning).
I researched how to get more free space on my phone which might 'supposedly' alleviate the above issues. I removed some less used apps, and some photos and videos from my phone. Then, I tried backing up again. I still got the message there wasn't enough free space on my phone, and the missing songs from the iTunes library were not returned to my phone. I gave another try at syncing my iPhone. I still got the same message that the phone couldn't be synced because  there wasn't enough free space in the iTunes library.
Any suggestions on how to remedy these problems will be appreciated!
BTW... I read a suggestion on the internet to restore my phone (I did  this recently when something went wrong during a phone update and the whole process went 'hey-wire', shutting down before the update was complete. However, at that time, all of my songs and apps were still on my phone and stored in the iTunes library.) If I restore my iPhone now, will the apps and songs no longer on my phone be lost?
Sorry there are so many questions within the same 'New Discussion' thread I'm starting! But, I think all of these issues are somehow related.
    Thanks!

I Have fumbled all day to this resolved, I'll run the battery down and see what happens afterwards. This is not good !

  • Free Space on Time Capsule not Changing

I've noticed this problem over the last couple of weeks. The amount of free space (and used space) on the Time Capsule drive is not changing. All the backups are happening as they should, but no change in free space.
I've verified all the backups are there by entering time machine and seeing the files for all dates.
I checked that it wasn't just a coincidence based on backups and then removal of old ones (thinning) by looking through the system log and it shows that after every backup and ever pre/post-thinning it always shows 803.7 GB free (actually, exactly 803.65)
    I tried restarting my coputer.
I tried restarting the Time Capsule.
I upgraded the Time Capsule firmware to the latest version (7.3.2).
All without luck. Has anyone else seen this behavior or have any idea what might be going on?

Here's an example from some recent backups. This is the System.log records relating to backupd.

  • Free space on iPad does not match free space in iTunes

I have iPad Air 128 GB iPad.  On my iPad I have 10.4 GB available memory (used is 103 GB).  When I connect to my computer and open iTunes it says I have 95.7 GB of free space.  Why is this and how to I fix it so that both say the same thing?  Thank you.

Ok, so now I have restored several times to get the same result. My iTunes will not sync my iPod touch. I have reinstalled iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit version. Restarted the computer several times. It appears to be syncing, then an error will pop up that says the iPod could not be written to. Again, in iTunes it shows there are songs on the iPod, but when you access the iPod directly, there are no songs on it. What to do? Is it possible the hard drive in the iPod is going bad?

  • 5G nano free space on iPod and free space in iTunes do not match, help...

Greetings. My 5G nano shows 118MB free in the preview panel when I highlight 'settings' - however when connected in iTunes, when I select the name of my iPod nano, it shows 68.4MB free. Why is this? Thank you.

Well, I reset the nano by holding the menu and center buttons, twice. I dont know what that was supposed to do but nothing changed, not the menu or the amounts of free space. Im going to try a restore now...which I dread because filling an iPod from a library larger than the capacity of the iPod is a pain.

  • Vault has 50 gigs free space but Aperture will not backup?

My external HD that stores my Vault has 50 gigs of free space. Aperture is telling me that there is not enough space to backup to the Vault.
    What gives?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

How much GB is your library?
I had an issue with Aperture 1.5 not backing up because it needed about twice the space of the library to be backed up. So now I use big drives with room to spare and backing up vaults works fine.

  • I have 5GBs of free space. Itunes saying not enough space to sink. Help?

My IPhone says I have 5GBs of free space. When I try and sync my music a message pops up saying I need 2.24 more GBs and that my phone won't hold all of my selections. I have already deleted 1000 songs that I had on there from my previous sync and it still doesn't work. I had 2900 songs on there before have cut it down to 1900 and still nothing. Anyway to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    AM

Don't delete items on the iPhone. Syncing will take care of this.
You need to delete times you have selected to sync.
Create playlist(s) and add songs, You can see how large these playlists are.
You can then sync only those playlists.

Your software is too old and can't deal with any partition larger than 512 GB. You need to format your drives suitably.

  • Calculating free space in tablespace

    Oracle 11.0.1.7:
I am trying to calculate free space in the tablespace but I am not sure if Allocated Space (bytes_used) also has some free space that doesn't get reflected in the query below. Is it correct to assume that bytes_used is the space allocated to extents but may not have been really used (no data or LOB) yet? How do I calculate space that's currently been used by row data, index data or blob data?
I am currently using below query:
    select     a.TABLESPACE_NAME,
         a.BYTES bytes_used,
         b.BYTES bytes_free,
         b.largest,
         round(((a.BYTES-b.BYTES)/a.BYTES)*100,2) percent_used
    from
              select      TABLESPACE_NAME,
                   sum(BYTES) BYTES
              from      dba_data_files
              group      by TABLESPACE_NAME
         a,
              select      TABLESPACE_NAME,
                   sum(BYTES) BYTES ,
                   max(BYTES) largest
              from      dba_free_space
              group      by TABLESPACE_NAME
         b
    where      a.TABLESPACE_NAME=b.TABLESPACE_NAME
    order      by ((a.BYTES-b.BYTES)/a.BYTES) desc

DBA_FREE_SPACE give you the free space information which has not been allocated to any segment. The segments can also have free space in their allocated space and in order to find that, use DBMS_SPACE.SPACE_USAGE procedure. To find out free space in LOB segments refer to metalink doc: 386341.1

  • Erase free space  can't be selected or "erase" is not available

    Hi
Today I found that Erase free space  can't be selected or "erase" is not available , and I don't know !
I need to get free space ,I know its not a good idea but I need to do it .
So please help me ,if there is something wrong on my mac
Teach me step by step how to show that button ON
    Thanks a lot

Please note that "erase free space" does not create free space. It just makes all the bits in the existing free space the same (so that nobody can recover data from the files that used to be there).
Knowing that, do you still need to erase free space?

  • Disk partition issue.Cant allocate the free space for windows.ls help.

I have created a partition for OS X (200GB journaled, encrypted) and also left 51GB unallocated for Boot Camp later on.
After I successfully installed OS X 10.9, I wanted to install Windows 8.1 with Boot Camp. But Boot Camp only wants to shrink the Macintosh HD partition, and doesn't want to use the free space left on the drive. So I switched to Disk Utility, to try it that way. But in Disk Utility I wasn't able to create a new partition (if I press the 'partition' button it just doesn't do anything).
Next, I tried to switch of File Vault 2, let it decrypt itself, restart, and then try it again in internet recovery mode. But still, I cannot expand the Macintosh HD-partition or create a new partition.
    Disk Utility log:
    2014-09-04 00:42:31 +0200: Preparing partitioning: 'APPLE SSD SM256E Media'
Also, Disk Utility tells me there is 200.000.000.000 bytes of 200.000.000.000 bytes used, and 0 bytes of free space. Even though not even half of the drive is colored blue (which displays the amount of data on the drive). Finder tells me only 88GB is used.
I used the new installation for no longer than half a day, so there can't be issues that data is spread over the whole volume. Disk Utility can't find any problems, and tells me the disk and all of her volumes are okay (in green texts).
I also tried to start from a windows-install-usb, and tried to make a partition of the 'unallocated space', but then Windows tells me that it fails because the volume is part of the 'GPT partition style'.
What do I have to do to repartition my volumes!?
    I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina 15" (MacBook Pro 10,1) with a 256GB SSD (251GB according to OS X).

As you're finding, a limitation of basic disk is that it only allows 4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions and an extended partition.

For information on converting basic to dynamic as well as considerations prior to doing so, consult this article.  It should help you make a decision whether or not you want to convert the disk:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd163552.aspx
If you decide to convert, get a backup so that no matter what you're covered. Not that it's risky, but better safe than sorry.
