Free space on hd is decreasing. help please!

my freespace on my hd is decreasing even though i have deleted all the files that i don't need and i know i still have about 23gb free. i read one note about going to console and see what is eating up my free space. and here is what's going on:

that is the latest one, i have downloaded that mackeeper before and deleted it after few days, so i guess it is the one who is doing the trouble, can anyone help me?its eating up my free space.

Sounds like a damage library. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I want to update my Mac from 10.6.8 to Mavericks, but every time it says update unavailable for this computer. How do I check for space available or how much space I have used? Help please, I am new to using Mac computers.

Running out of space on /... Help Please

I am running out of space on /.
I have a drive in there on /export/home/ which has 18gigs free. Is there anyway I can map / to there and also keep all of my files that are in / like spreading it accross 2 drives... I dont plan on reinstalling the machine cos thats a pain. Its an Ultra5 and it takes ages to install solaris 10.

I had the same problem - made my root partition too small at first. Someone told me to use LiveUpgrade to create a second boot environment with a new partition table. It worked great, now I'm running off the 2nd BE, which is just the way I should have partitioned if the first place. It went like this:
First, you needed to partition and label the disk that will be acting as the new BE.
Then, create the first BE (-c be1) on the current device, copy the data on the specified filesystem to the second BE (be2), which is created with the �n option:

My computer says"not enough free space to back up iphone to computer"

i keep recentlyl getting a notice when i connect my iphone 5 (running snow lepoard on my mac) " not enough free space on this computer to backup iphone i have 106gigs of free space, my iphone5 is 64gig help please!!!!

Close iTunes & navigate to:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
and delete everything in that Backup folder, but not the folder itself.

Hello there, I am having a little bit of an issue with free space on my start-up disk. For some reason, the free space keeps going away day after day. Now, this is what we have done: Deleted files on desktop, deleted emails, deleted iTunes art-work, and we got rid of some songs on iTunes. As soon as we do any of those, we seem to lose free space. If anyone can help on this problem, that would be very grateful.

Hello! HERE is some info on freeing up disk space. I think your problem may lie in how you use your Mac. Panther 10.3.x runs its maintenance routines in the wee hours of the morning to rid itself of temp files that are created for instance when a disc is burned. If the machine is not left on all night it can't run them and you have to rely on a utility such as MacJanitor or Onyx to manually rid the system of temp files. Another problem occurs when the startup disk gets too full which will eventually bring the system down so it's important to keep at least 15% of free space at all times. HERE is MacJanitor and HERE is Onyx. I personally don't use a utility as I leave mine on 24/7/365. Tom

Restoring the iPod will delete the music on it, but not anything in your iTunes library.

Loss of free space in macbook

Hello recently i used vmfusion and installed windowsXP. Later i ran with few problems with mac and so i restored my macbook to factory setting using the cd i got when i bought mac.
And now my problem is i am not able to recover my lost free space of 6GB.
Can anyone please help me how to do it?

Right click on your desktop and choose "viewer options". Adjust the spacing and the size of your icons and you should be able to see the size of your drive(s) and the free space available on each drive with the exception of your bootcamp drive which will only show the overall size of the drive you have it on. This may be different if you only have one system drive (like on a Mac Book Pro) with a partition containing bootcamp on it. this may only show you the overall capacity, I can't say for sure though as I only use a Mac Pro with 4 seperate Hard Drives which are showing both overall capacity and free space available. Disk Utility - Erase Free Space-what does it really do?

I am using mac os 10.6.4 on my macbook and i have a doubting question for quite sometimes, what does disk utility erase free space feature really do? Does it gives you more free space? or what? I know it prevents the recovery of deleted files but i want to know what more it does and do not do? Like, now my hdd free space kept increasing and decreasing, by a few 100 mbs or 50mbs etc, so do i erase free space so to solve this problem? Ok, i do not only want to know does it solve the previous problem, but also the questions stated in the whole long paragraph i have wrote. If you know anything related to disk utility's erase free space, feel free to tell me!

Erase free space simply writes zeros over the space occupied by deleted files to prevent data recovery. That's all it does. It does not give you extra disk space.
Your disk space goes up and down a bit because the system creates temporary files and logs which take up space, such as the Safari cache. You can clear these file using a utility like Onyx (which is free)

This is more likely a matter of Apple specifying 4G as 4,000,000,000 byte rather than 41024*10241024 byte like your computer counts.
Using the "1000 notation", your 3.85GB would require 4.1GB. Try trimming your library down a bit more (to around 3.7G). I don't have my Nano yet, so I cannot verify if the device actually uses any of those "4G" for things other than storing your data.

It's more likely a failed Erase Free Space, which creates a huge temporary file; that's why it looks like you have no more available drive space. You can recover from this. See these links

My external hard drive accidentally switched off during Disk Utility's "erase free space" process. I restarted the external hard drive and Disk Utility, but now I get the "couldn't mount disk" error when trying to finish the erase. Please help!

My external Lacie Quadra hard drive accidentally switched off in the middle of "erase free space", and when I switched it back on Disk Utility was hanging. So I Force Quit Disk Utility and restarted it. Now when I try to erase I get
"Secure Disk Erase failed with the error: Couldn’t unmount disk."
But "erase free space" seems to work...
What can I do? I'm erasing as I'm giving the drive to someone else and I wanted to wipe it clean.
Also should I use "erase" or "erase free space" if I want to wipe the drive clean?

Sorry I don't really understand.... there are no partitions on the drive. How do I repartition it?
