Free Space on Macintosh HD not showing up

After reinstalling a clean setup of Tiger, free space on Macintosh HD is not showing up on desktop, however the total size is. I have repaired the premissions and validated everything through disk utility, thus I did not resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance

Hi orians.anvari,
activate the hard disk icon and type Apple-i to get the Information window. Does the free hard disk space show up correctly? If so you ran into a known issue of MacOS X since it's very first release.
If you still cannot see the free space use WhatSize to determine where the space is used.

  • When switching spaces application menu is not showing

I'm not sure the is a Snow Leopard specific problem, but I have certain applications assigned to certain spaces. When I switch to a space for that application and it has an open document, everything is fine. But if I close all of the document windows for the application and then switch away from that space and then back to that space, the Finder menu takes over. The application is still running, but I have to either click it's icon in the dock or cmd-tab to the application to get it's menu or toolbars to appear.
Is this normal behavior? It's kind of a pain to mak sure that I at least have one open document window so that when I switch back to that space I don't have to "reactivate" the app. Just so I make sure i'm explaining this correctly...
I have Photoshop in it's own space and then open the program and then don't open a document window and then switch to another space and then switch back to the Photoshop space, I now have the Finder's menu displayed and a blank desktop showing. I then have to click on the Photoshop icon or cmd-tab to the running application to get it's menus and toolbars to show.
    Thanks for your help.

First off, I meant to title this "When switching spaces application window is not showing."
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem or any other weirdness with switching between spaces, the answer seems to be trashing the com.apple.dock.plist file and then restarting the dock. The preferences file can evidentially get corrupted and create some problems. Spaces does not have it's own plist file but stores it's data in the dock's plist file. Be warned that this will reset all of your dock preferences including which apps you have on the dock.

  • Finder showing wrong amount of free space on Macintosh HD

    Hi!
Does anyone know why Finder tells me that the amount of free space on my Mac is 46.53 GB while Disk Utility says there are only 31.89 GB of free space left?

Just found the solution in another thread: the "problem" seems to be the local Time Machine Snapshots. Finder ignores them, Disk Utility doesn't.

  • Free Space on Time Capsule not Changing

I've noticed this problem over the last couple of weeks. The amount of free space (and used space) on the Time Capsule drive is not changing. All the backups are happening as they should, but no change in free space.
I've verified all the backups are there by entering time machine and seeing the files for all dates.
I checked that it wasn't just a coincidence based on backups and then removal of old ones (thinning) by looking through the system log and it shows that after every backup and ever pre/post-thinning it always shows 803.7 GB free (actually, exactly 803.65)
    I tried restarting my coputer.
I tried restarting the Time Capsule.
I upgraded the Time Capsule firmware to the latest version (7.3.2).
All without luck. Has anyone else seen this behavior or have any idea what might be going on?

Here's an example from some recent backups. This is the System.log records relating to backupd.

  • Free Space Information On Harddisks Not Realtime

Hi i have an problem i have some dvd's images stored on my harddisk. when i burned the dvd's images to dvd i removed the dvd's to the trash and emptyed the trash. but when i check the finders free disk space it shows the same amount of free space like before i removed the dvd images(about 12gigs)
after rebooting the info is fixed again but lets tell it this way, i like the slumber option a lot.
    thanks for your help!

    Hi OMEGA_ReD,
this is a known problem of MacOS X since it's initial launch several years ago. After this long time we tend to call this a "feature" instead of a bug
Another one of these annoying never-get-solved bugs is the fact that the Finder does not correctly apply view-options to Finder windows, regardless whether you select "Apply to all windows" or not - it simply does not work (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3678099&#3678099)

  • Free space on iPad does not match free space in iTunes

I have iPad Air 128 GB iPad.  On my iPad I have 10.4 GB available memory (used is 103 GB).  When I connect to my computer and open iTunes it says I have 95.7 GB of free space.  Why is this and how to I fix it so that both say the same thing?  Thank you.

Ok, so now I have restored several times to get the same result. My iTunes will not sync my iPod touch. I have reinstalled iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit version. Restarted the computer several times. It appears to be syncing, then an error will pop up that says the iPod could not be written to. Again, in iTunes it shows there are songs on the iPod, but when you access the iPod directly, there are no songs on it. What to do? Is it possible the hard drive in the iPod is going bad?

  • 5G nano free space on iPod and free space in iTunes do not match, help...

Greetings. My 5G nano shows 118MB free in the preview panel when I highlight 'settings' - however when connected in iTunes, when I select the name of my iPod nano, it shows 68.4MB free. Why is this? Thank you.

Well, I reset the nano by holding the menu and center buttons, twice. I dont know what that was supposed to do but nothing changed, not the menu or the amounts of free space. Im going to try a restore now...which I dread because filling an iPod from a library larger than the capacity of the iPod is a pain.

  • TS1503 After an update on my iPhone 4, (I updated using my MacBook Pro) I first received the message, iTunes was not able to load all of iTunes library back on your phone, not enough free space on your phone. (not an exact quote, essentially the same mean

The complete iTunes library was already on my iPhone 4. Why would it all not go back on? It left out around 4 or 5 songs from my play list. How do I get them back on my iPhone?
Note: All software on both devices is up to date.
Then, I tried to sync my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I got the message, cannot sync your iPhone because there is not enough free space in the iTunes library (not exact quote, but same meaning).
I researched how to get more free space on my phone which might 'supposedly' alleviate the above issues. I removed some less used apps, and some photos and videos from my phone. Then, I tried backing up again. I still got the message there wasn't enough free space on my phone, and the missing songs from the iTunes library were not returned to my phone. I gave another try at syncing my iPhone. I still got the same message that the phone couldn't be synced because  there wasn't enough free space in the iTunes library.
Any suggestions on how to remedy these problems will be appreciated!
BTW... I read a suggestion on the internet to restore my phone (I did  this recently when something went wrong during a phone update and the whole process went 'hey-wire', shutting down before the update was complete. However, at that time, all of my songs and apps were still on my phone and stored in the iTunes library.) If I restore my iPhone now, will the apps and songs no longer on my phone be lost?
Sorry there are so many questions within the same 'New Discussion' thread I'm starting! But, I think all of these issues are somehow related.
    Thanks!

I Have fumbled all day to this resolved, I'll run the battery down and see what happens afterwards. This is not good !

  • Vault has 50 gigs free space but Aperture will not backup?

My external HD that stores my Vault has 50 gigs of free space. Aperture is telling me that there is not enough space to backup to the Vault.
    What gives?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

How much GB is your library?
I had an issue with Aperture 1.5 not backing up because it needed about twice the space of the library to be backed up. So now I use big drives with room to spare and backing up vaults works fine.

  • I have 5GBs of free space. Itunes saying not enough space to sink. Help?

My IPhone says I have 5GBs of free space. When I try and sync my music a message pops up saying I need 2.24 more GBs and that my phone won't hold all of my selections. I have already deleted 1000 songs that I had on there from my previous sync and it still doesn't work. I had 2900 songs on there before have cut it down to 1900 and still nothing. Anyway to solve this problem?
    Thanks,

Don't delete items on the iPhone. Syncing will take care of this.
You need to delete times you have selected to sync.
Create playlist(s) and add songs, You can see how large these playlists are.
You can then sync only those playlists.

  • Macintosh HD not showing up in Disk Utility

I know there have been many other threads related to this issue but I have not been able to find one that matches my situation. I was handed a mid 2012 intel based Macbook Pro from a cousin with "some issue" according to him. The computer was running extremely slowly and after resetting PRAM, checking the RAM (third party software), and doing a hardware test, I figured the motherboard may be going bad. I gave the Macbook  back to my cousin for him to backup any wanted files before I started to try any repairs. When he went to turn it on, he got the blinking folder icon. I got it back and tried to run internet recovery, but only the Mac OS Base system (Disk0) is showing up for repair and the Lion reinstall is impossible. I have taken the HDD out, put it into my Linux machine and get the files he wanted off of it.
Most people who have had this issue seem to have had hard drives that have gone bad. However, it seems since I was able to mount the disk in Linux and pull files off of it, there may be another issue that I can not figure out. Any help would be appreciated. If there is a way to use the terminal or mount the  HDD  in Linux to fix any system files I would be more than happy to try.
    Thanks

    Ralph,
Thanks for the response. I did not know it could not be done in Linux. I was just throwing out an option that was available to me if there was just a corrput file that I could download and reinstall on the drive. As far as the getting into recovery, I tried both options and did attempt the erase and reinstall. I am only able to get into the Internet Recovery which when prompted, I can go through the menus, but cannot go any further as the Utility can not "find" the Macintosh HD. It only displays the Mac OS Base System (Disk0) partition. I assume I cannot recover or install since it can not find/mount the Macintosh HD. I just emailed him and mentioned that there had been a small amount of liquid spilled on the keyboard a year ago. This makes me think it may be the logic board failing. I will try to replace the SATA first and then go on with a new board.
There was not a warranty to speak of that I was told about by him. Before I started I made sure my cousin knew the any warranty would be voided but he wanted to insure his files were safe, and I was the free option compared to the local computer repair shop.
    Appreciate the help Ralph

  • Macintosh HD not showing in after making partion of windows via boot camp

    HI
    I have a MacBook Pro  2012
recnently made windows 8.1 partition with bootcamp. Been using it for a week and it was fine
one of my colleague made a partion in the windows OS and we restared the computer and press the alt button to choose the OS and now it only shows Windows oS. The Macintosh and the recovery  icon has disappeared.
Tried to format the MacBook as they are not any important files. So went to disk utility by holding Command+R. And the in the disk utility It cannot detect the Macintosh Disk !!
    any idea what is wrong.???

What exactly do you see in disk utilities? Do you see a main drive, such as 250 GB toshiba and then the windows partition slightly indented. Or only the windows drive? If you still have the main drive showing, you can click on it and erase it . Then go to partitions and set one partition click option and set it as a GUID partition. Go back set mac os extended journaled and then click apply. Then you can reinstall the operating system and use bootcamp to reinstall windows.

  • Just purchased more storage space for iphone6 but not showing?

I just purchased more storage space for my iphone6, 20gb, but my backup storage still shows 5gb?  How do I troubleshoot this problem, my credit card info is accurate?

You cannot install more storage space on an iDevice. If you don't have space on the device to download to it, then you need to delete stuff from it. Buying more cloud space does not do a thing for you unless you store to the cloud and remove from the device.
