Free spectrum analyser with verbal prominent frequency info?

I'm looking for a free spectrum analysis tool, which scans a track and reports in real numbers the prominent frequency. - Eg, "-42 dB at 108 Hz".
The Spectrum Analysis tool in SoundForge can do this well, but I need something for the Mac. - Also, the ability to zoom in on different areas and find, for example, the prominent frequency above 1kHz or whatever would be good.
I know there are many graphical analysers out there, but reading an exact value off is very difficult.
It needs to be free, either as a plug-in (AU), or a stand-alone application for OS X.4
Does anyone know of such a thing?

it depends how accurate you want it.... The ones from waves - Logic - etc... are very inaccurate - but if u only wanna have some idea of what frequency you are having they are all just fine.. If u want an accurate visual of what the audio is doing you are going to have to invest a little money... I bought the SpectraFoo - from Metric Halo - it is pretty ** good - but - it aint no oscilloscope --- BUt it'll do for me it has a discrepancy of maybe 3% which is very very good - the waves Frequency Plug in - has a discrepancy of up to 15% (the lower the freq. higher the discrepancy...
Maybe you could try a demo of the various ones - and see what works the best for you - I know for sure that u can Demo Spectrafoo for 10 days - in a full mode
Good Luck

  • Spectrum analyser for USB raw

    Hi,
I am new to Labview. I have a 3rd party RFID device which i intend to acquire the frequency waveform from the device through using Labview. Since as a beginner, i use the spectrum analyser in the "example" section to start off with and now has error in getting the correct Visa USB raw to connect my device. The program intiallly used Visa instrument as the visa resource name but when i changed the input to the USB raw input there is a class conflict error that says "You have connected a refnum of one type to a refnum of another type and both types are members of some class hierarchy, but there is neither a simple up cast nor type cast between the two classes."
For the USB raw setting, i have already configured the device using the NI-driver wizard to install the USB raw and tested it through the MAX. So now i believe the problem should be wiring of USB raw to the entire spectrum analyser example. Attached is the spectrum analyzer example. Really hope to get help on this matter. Thank you.

  • Spectrum Analyzer with Tracking Generator - do I have what it takes?

    Hi Guys and Gals,
I need to profile the response of some filters in an ultrasonic bit of hardware. I've been told that a Spectrum Analyzer with a Tracking Generator will do what I want in a short space of time, but I don't have one. Problem is I don't know what a spectrum analyzer is (beyond the obvious - analyses the frequency spectrum response).
I have a 100MHz Arbitrary Function Generator under LV control and I have a LeCroy 600MHz Oscilloscope under LV control and I know a bit about writing LV.
The question is, can I use the AFG, the Oscilloscope and LabVIEW to make myself a Spectrum Analyzer to do the job?
Any suggestions or pointers gratefully received.
    Dr Phil

I believe a Network Analyzer will be of use to you, and fortunately you have the makings of one.  A NA will tell you the amplitude and phase response.  The easiest thing to do is to split the signal from the AFG (use a T) and send one signal straight to the scope and the other to the input of the DUT (device under test).  Connect the DUT output to the second channel of the scope.  Simply measure the ratio of the amplitudes and the relative phase of the two channels and you are all set.  The scope probably has these functions built in, otherwise acquire the time series and let LabVIEW do the work (you can also take the power spectrum if you really want a spectrum analyzer).   If you want to be careful, make sure that the cable lengths in the two paths are equal, but at ultrasonic frequencies I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hi, first of all I'd recommend to contact the R&S customer support center to be shure the measure the correct value. Did you really measure the actual noise, or do you measure the noise which is "only" displayed?
But anyway, did you have had a look at this example: http://www2.rohde-schwarz.com/file/rsspecan_lv8_noise_marker_example.zip
There is the setup of one noise marker shown. With your already existing marker value this should do the trick, also in case of two noise markers; just use the rsspecan Configure Marker Noise Measurement.vi again with input parameter <YourMarker+1> of the "Marker" input of the VI.
    Hope that helps?

  • Can we evaluate EVM(Earned value analysis with) in SEM-BSC

Can we evaluate EVM(Earned value analysis with)IN BSC SEM-BSC.If so then how?

The Earned Value Management (EVM) method enables efficient and effective project management. This form of financial analysis focuses on technical, schedule and cost performance of a project. Obviously, there are different ways of managing by EV ranging from using simple spreadsheets to more complex software implementations.
To get the basic components of project performance regarding the diverse costs, schedule and technical aspects, some of SAP's project management solutions as e.g. part of SAP PLM can possibly be used (for more information please visit e.g. the respective Solutions area on SDN). As these systems are rather transactional, an extraction of the performance data to SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (BI) would be a reasonable second step, together with uploads or manual entry of additional necessary project data which is perhaps not available in the transactional system.
For more information of the calculations behing this concept you may refer e.g. to Wikipedia:
    <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_value_management">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_value_management</a>
Using calculated key figures in BI can finally deliver the metrics to be composed as Key Performance Indicators and displayed in a dedicated strategy/performance management software with its respective status at the strategic objective or intitiative level if needed (in this regard I would recommend you to have a look at a new strategy/performance management solution of SAP called SAP Strategy Management (SSM) which replaced the older Balanced Scorecard app of SEM you are referring to. More info on SSM can be found on e.g. <a href="http://www.sap.com/solutions/performancemanagement/index.epx">http://www.sap.com/solutions/performancemanagement/index.epx</a>. SAP Strategy Management is methodology-agnostic and can be used for all performance management methodologies based on objectives, KPI's and initiatives. SSM is based on technology acquired by SAP with a company called Pilot earlier this year).
To conclude, a strategy management application (if it is SSM or SEM BSC) does not directly help you calculate EVM as you need transactional/manual calculation data for it together with calculation formulas etc. where diverse other SAP products incl. primarily SAP NW BI can be used. However, a strategy management application can be an excellent environment to visualize/evaluate the results of the EVM calcualtion in the context of strategic objectives and/or initiatives. And as I said, feel free to have a look at the new SAP Strategy Management application, replacing the SEM BSC Solution if you are interested in the strategy management area.
Thank you for your inquiry / Best regards,
    Karol

  • Spectrum analyser in teststand

    Hi everybody,
I have a question about spectrum anlyser with teststand.
I would like to use with teststand a spectrum analyser (IFR 2399C aéroflex).
I have the driver and those files:

    Ifr2399_32.dll & ifr2399.lib
I have install the spectrum analyser in the measurement and automation explorer where i defin the driver liker an IVI SpecAn.
now I don't know how to do to use it in tesstand. I don't find IVI SpecAn like i can fin IVI Dmm IVI Fgen...........
Can someone help me to resolve my problem ?
    Best regards
    Gauthier (french user)

    Hello Gauthier,
I would try to get your instrument working with a progamming language before we started porting it over to TestStand.  We want to ensure that the instrument will work properly first.  You can post to the Instrument Control forum for help with IVI and instrument control issues as well.  Lastly, I took a look at the screen shot you posted, and I noticed something. The ANALUSEUR FileGlobal variable is an object type instead of a long, which is what your dll calls for.  This might a start, but I would definitely check out the Instrument Control forums.  Have a great day!

  • What is the best tools for spectrum analysis

There are many spectrum analysis software component in the of NI product(SMT, advanced signal processing, basic ones).
May I know which is the lastest and best for use.
I am trying to collect data from DAQ 5102 then do FFT. Also, may need select centre frequency  and frequency band etc.
A band pass or low pass filter may also need in the future.

    Hey turbot,
Thanks for contacting National Instruments support.  Each set of the vis you mention are the latest, and some use similar methods to do the FFT than the other.  The SMT is usually the best in most applications.  There is also another option in the case of scope, you can fetch FFT data from the driver.  The FFT is not actually implemented in hardware, but in the driver, and this is transparent to the user.  It's simpler to use, but not as efficient as the SMT.
I hop this answers your questions.  Let me know if I can be of further help.

  • Spectrum analyzer with sim and DAQ IV File

    Hello..
i have a project that i need to design a Spectrum analyzer with simulation mode and DAQ option. ( so you can generate input signal from LabView and DAQ.
all i look for is a modern Spectrum anlyzer VI file for reference and education purposes
i know there are examples out there in LabView but, i need a modern one with a lot of options and features ( like Impulse respond, marker... filters.....)
there is something i found here on the website, it happen long time ago, and some proffessor from Vietnam created such project. its not with DAQ, but its great for me.
    here is the link:
    http://digital.ni.com/worldwide/singapore.nsf/web/all/42B390E4624228D486257249001A5349
this kind of Spectrum anlyzer looks great
    most appreciate for any help

    Hi Eldad,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the NI forums!
    The
application you have linked uses LabVIEW to control a Tektronix TDS220
    over RS232 (a.k.a. serial port).  The TDS220 has a 1GHz sample rate
with a 100 MHz bandwidth--the specs on our DAQ devices don't go nearly
this high, our High Speed Digitizers
would be a better option if you need something comparable.  Also, the
programming of the two devices (TDS220 vs. DAQ) is going to be quite
different, so I am not sure how helpful the code from the link would be
for your application.  I don't have access to the code or permission to
post it here, but you could always try contacting the original author
(his contact info is in the link you provided, not sure if it's up to
date or not).  Again, I'm not really sure how helpful the code would be
    for you.
You might want to take a look at the following example to see if it does what you need:
    NI-DAQmx: Benchtop Spectrum Analyzer
    There
are also numerous examples that are installed with the DAQmx Driver to
help you get started with the API.  You can access them from LabVIEW by
    going to:
Help >> Find Examples... >>  Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx
    There
may not be a ready-made example that will do everything that you
require, but the above should give you a good starting point for
implementing the necessary features yourself.  If you run into any
specific issues while trying to program, please don't hesitate to post
to the forum and we'll be more than happy to help out.

  • Spectral analysis with 10 averages using 10 lvm files

    Hi
I would like to create a spectal analysis of some results i have saved in lvm files in labview 7
is it possible to use the averaging option in the spectral measurement function to do 10 averages if i read 10 lvm files
    ie.
    Read lvm file #1
    do spectrum analysis
    read lvm file #2
redo spectrum analysis and average results between file #1 and file #2
    read lvm file #3
    ect
    Thanks in advance
    Mark Thompson

    hi there
you can swop the order of calculating the average and the FFT. So first read all lvm files, average the time based data and then do the FFT over the averaged data.

  • Creating a Spectrum analyser

I'm new to Labview and am trying to create a spectrum analyser for use with a accelerometer providing an variable output of 1 volt/g. I'm using a 6024E Data aquisition card which works with other instruments. I'm having a few problems with the program i've created in that it doesn't give the expected spectrum (i've connected the accelerometer to a real spectrum analyser). I've looked at the various examples provided with labview but none seem to be able to offer any help. I've included the file and any help would be really appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

In a discrete measurement system, the Nyquist criteria requires you to sample your signal at a rate that is at least twice the bandwidth (or span) you want to measure. In praxis values like 2.50, 2.56 (or higher if oversampled) are used.
So when you expect your span to be 20 kHz you should sample at a rate of at least 2.5*20 = 50 kHz. The same story applies to your "number of lines", so if you request your measurement span to be 800 lines wide, you should acquire data blocks of 800 * 2.5 = 2000 samples.
I have modified your VI to reflect that. If needed you can change the constant value "2.5" to a higher value (like 5.00 or 10.0 depending on the board you are using) to reduce effects of aliasing on your measurement results.

    Hi
I want to view the spectrum of a sweep sine signal from 100 to 1000 Hz. I am taking the input signal (from a mic)through an analog input of a M6259 DAQ card. I am using Labview 7.1. The spectrum analyser programme I have made omits some of the signal and I get a sine+square with some jitter. I would be greatfull if some one can some one check this.

    Hi Mal,
From the looks of the signal you have there, the card is only acepting
a 0-10V signal. If you go into Measurement and Automation Explorer and
use the Test panel do you get the same result? Can you check the signal
on a scope or something to make sure its correct?

  • How interface keithley 230 programmable voltage source on a circuit containing Optical spectrum analyser and Tunable laser source.

i have downloaded the keithley 230 software and i put it together with the necessary strings, its working .my aim is to insert it in the existing vi,use it to step up voltage (auto)after each specified run and  output is collected and ploted at each desired voltage level. also i dont know if sweep voltage is required to achiev this or if also i need to clear memory often.
    Pls can somebody help me!!!!

    Thanks, u ar great.

    Hi engineer david ,
Thanks for your advise, so far i was able to resolve to this two VI circult attached.one of the Vi comprise of the attenuator, optical spectrum analyser, and tuneable laser source,it sweep correctly with no hiccup, though the attenuator is disconnected. the second is the voltage  control vi.
    I need to combine  them to enable them work as follow;
    >the voltage vi we begin with a voltage value say 1v and the other vi sweep on this voltage for a known period and
    >the voltage Vi step to another voltage value say 2v and sweeping is carried out again on this voltage etc until it finaly get to the maximum voltage, then the whole vi
    stop.
also i want the voltage vi to be in visa addressing format.
pls i need to summit this work soon, help combine this.
    Kudos to u sir.
