  • I have an iPhone 4S and my friend has two ipods with two Apple ID's.  Why can't he receive messages on "Message" on one and he uses a free text app on the other which receives messages from my phone just fine.

My friend has two ipods.  Two Apple ID's and on one ipod he has a free text app on it and only Message on the other.  He cannot receive a message from my iphone 4S on the one with Message, but receives it fine on the one with the free text app.
He can also receive a message from my iPad on the one with Message.
My question is how can he recieve a text from my iPhone to the ipod which has a different Apple ID than the other but does not have a free text app?
Also on the ipod he has the free text app he has not upgraded to ios7 and won't.

Are the use the correct email address for the contact? Those are listed in Settings>Messages>Send and Receive. When Messaging somene the iOS devices used the email address (or phone number if applicable) listed in the Contact app for that person.
Thus, it appears the you Contact apps only has that one email address listed for the person you are trying to Message.
If he can send you a Messages can you reply to it? If so save the sender to your Contact app.

  • Free texting apps - which one?

Don't wanna pay for texting through ATT. I've seen discussions about some apps that provide free texting. So couple questions:
    1) which app do you recommend?
    2) do you incur ANY fees using these apps?
    3) this will mostly be for wifey and myself, but what if someone has a texting plan and doesn't use the app you recommend, do these go to my normal messaging box and I get charged by ATT? Any way to avoid it altogether?
    Thanks for your tips....

For texting, any app you use will need to be left open or have push capability. You can look in the iTunes store and see what is available.
    2) do you incur ANY fees using these apps?
You may or may not. You'd have to see what the details are for the particular app.

You will be charged by ATT for any texts you send and receive through SMS if you do not have a texting plan.
Considering the headaches using a third party app, I think it would be easier to just add on the $5/month texting plan to each phone.

  • HT3529 What are some good free texting apps?

I'm looking for a free text messaging app that allows me to add my contacts without requiring them to set up an account through the app.  Is that possible?

I don't know of any that do exactly that, but I use Pinger. You can even make free wifi calls trough them. Call quality is as good, if not better, than Skype too.

  • Free Texting on your iPod 4....really

I have been searching for an easy texting app for the iPod that actually worked in Canada and finally realized that the Face Book app allows texting.
Tried it out and it works great. Alerts can be enabled as well. Just don't log out of your FB account and you have free unlimited texting.

If you want free texting via wi-fi that works in Canada, that will send text messages to Canada and U.S. for free, then I suggest getting the textPlus 4 Free Text app for your iPod Touch. It seems to be the most reliable texting app for free.

  • Best Texting App ???

    Hi!
My son just saved up his $$ and got the new iPod Touch. What do you recommend as far as apps for texting? I dont mind paying a few bucks if its worth it and better than the free texting apps. THANKS!

I use TextFree. It's free, as you'd expect, and it works great. Looks and acts just like the Messaging app on the iPhone. My wife and I use TextFree constantly. I highly recommend it. It's paid for by little ads at the bottom of the screen, but I hardly notice them. You can also shut the ads off for like $30 a year or something I believe.

  • My daughter has and ipod touch with free texting I would like to delete it and open a new app for her with a new number..I deleted the old number and when we downloaded the new app it gave her the same number how can I change text

My daughter has an ipod touch with free texting, she received an inappropriate mssg and I would like to delete it and download it again to receive a new number. when I download the new app it gives her the same number?  can i do this?

Have you tried the developer's support web site?  Withut you providing the name of the app makes it very hard for us to give specific recommendations.  The only one that i can thin of is to purchase the app using a diffeent iTunes account.

  • Free text message apps

I just want to confirm: The apps to send text messages for free are really just e-mail apps. They will only go as fast as e-mail can carry them, and when I get the response, my phone won't ding (I use the bell sound) like it does when I get a real text message, correct?
If you want real text messaging, you have to pay, correct?
    Thanks!

The free SMS apps use email, yes. In fact, behind the scenes, 'real' SMS is also using email (when sent between carriers, at least).
As for how you receive a reply, that depends on the app. If the app is one where you put in your number as the sender, and the other person replies to your message, then it comes in as an SMS to your iPhone (with the bell sound). In that case, you'd be charged for receiving the reply, but not for sending the original message.

  • Is there any way to determine what device text messages are sent from? Do free text messaging apps relate to the apple ID, or the iPod?

My son had a friend give him his apple ID username and password, and downloaded a texting app. Now, some text messages were sent, and they are both denying it.  Is there any way to know if the text messages came from my son's iPod? The app and texts are deleted, so I can't look at a history to see who typed them.

I could not find anything one the developer's upport page. Contact the developer and ask

  • I have a 2013 MacBook Pro that has a virus. Free ClamXav app scanned 2 "Phishing" files.  How do I remove?

My MacBook Pro (purchased in 2013) was running slow with the wheel turning after I opened my Junk and Spam folders just to check the emails in there..  I never opened up any emails..  Went to the Genius Bar and and they checked my hard drive which is fine.  They said to remove some of the downloads and old emails which I did.  Problem still existed and they never checked for a virus. I downloaded the Free ClamXav app and scanned my computer to check for infected files. 2 "phishing" files were reported. How do I remove these from my computer?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Automatic PO creation of free text PR

    Hi!
We have all our PRs in free text since we are not yet using material master. One of our purchase organization will only order from one vendor and they will enter that vendor and price in the PR. Is it possible to create a PO automatically from that PR without a material or source list?
    Sincerely
    Anders

    Hi
Thank you very much. Is it possible to restrict the automatic creation to a certain purchase organization?
    If I understand you right:
    1) Create PR with item category D Service
    2) Activate automatic PO creation in ML91
That will create POs for all PRs created as a service?
    Sincerely
    Anders

  • Best way to install free iTunes Apps in an enterprise across 1000 iPhones

We currently are looking at rolling out over 1000 iPhones (and iPads) in the next few months and we were wondering what is the best (and most legal) way we can install a bunch of free iTunes Apps on these devices as part of thier configuration before we hand them to the end users. We were currently thinking of creating a generic iTunes account and installing the Apps using this account on all the devices and then "logging off" this iTunes account from the device so the end users can use thier own when they get the device.
Is there anything wrong (or illegal) about this approach or is there a better way to do this?

Yes, this is very much the chicken-and-egg problem of Mobile Device Management for iOS devices. Let's hope it gets easier in the future.
One approach to deploying the app is self-service using Web Clips.
Use iPhone Configuration Utility or MobileIron to create a Config Profile containing a Web Clip labeled "Install Me!" that points at the App Store URL for the app you need installing.
The user taps "Install Me!" and iOS Safari will redirect to the App Store app, where the app for downloading is displayed. The user installs it manually.
Not pretty, but a little easier than following a written long script. And not very scalable as you need 1 web clip per App Store URL.
Alternatives are, use the web clip to direct the user to an intranet web page with a list of App Store URLs for all the apps you need them to install, or use the MobileIron's "Suggested Apps" feature as previously mentioned.
Deploying paid apps is particularly tricky for large deployments. However, there are some tricks: like using the App Store "Gift This App" feature to purchase the app and "gift" it to an end users. Alternatively, purchase iTunes gift cards from apple to value of the Apps you need them to install, and let them manage the purchase and installation themselves.
Again, I hope this gets streamlined in the future, but for now, it's the best we can do.

    Paul Adams
