Free Transform Rotation Issue - Layer rotates/moves by itself after clicking on it?

Hey all.  Since the last update, I have been experiencing this weird issue while using Free Transform.  Sometimes, after I invoke Free Transform and then click on the layer I am transforming, it seems to rotate by itself.  Usually clockwise.  It happens really quickly.  It's almost like my mouse cursor is off center when I click on the layer and the it's like the layer rotates to match the location of my cursor.  It's so weird and quite difficult to describe.  I have also experienced the layer moving quickly to the right after clicking on it while in the Free Transform state.  I have tried 2 different mice and experienced the issue on both of them. I have also tried different mousing surfaces and experienced the same thing.  It doesn't happen every time but just sometimes.  It started doing it since the latest update.  It's really annoying.  Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

  • Free Transform/Rotate Causes Flash CS3 to Crash

    This problem is driving me nuts. I'm importing a 2000 x 3000
    jpeg image and converting it to a symbol. everything seems fine
    until I try to do a free transform and rotate the image. Then when
    I proceed to cut the image, CS3 crashes. I can reproduce the error
    every time. It works fine if the image is smaller but 2000 x 3000
    is not too much to ask at all!
    Has anyone else had similar problems?
    I can reproduce this error on a Mac and a PC.
    UPDATE: Breaking the bitmap apart after importing the image
    seems to remedy the problem. Is this the only fix? Doesn't seem
    right to me that I can't just easily drop in an semi-large asset
    without having to break it apart.
    UPDATE 2: Tried doing this with a larger asset and this did
    not work at all. It crashes, I feel like Flash has a hard time with
    large assets but I need the assets large so when I zoom in, I do
    not lose quality. What am I doing wrong here? How do you guys
    handle your zoom ins?
    Please tell me there is a fix!

    It's been a year since, still not solution!?
    I am having similar problem for the last 6 months!!

  • Free Transform rotate using keyboard possible?

    Does anyone know if it's possible to make fine adjustments to rotate an image using a keyboard when in Free Transform mode?
    Eg, I can use the left and right keys to nudge left and right but it's awkward trying to use a trackpad to make fine adjustments when rotating in image.
    THANKS

    With Free Transform active, highlight the Angle field in the Option Bar, and us the up an down arrow keys to change it. Holding Shift while doing so increases the amount of each nudge.

  • Text Free Transform Sizing Issues

    First off I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a 2010 iMac.
    Here is the problem, for example I open a blank file and type "ABC" in any font at at size (but for sake of ease lets say 72 pts in Myriad Pro). I then do a free transform (while holding shift to keep the size correctly scaled) and either enlarg or shrink the text. At that point if I try and change the text point size through the Character panel back to 72 points it sizes to the original size I set the free transform too, or lets say I try to increse the size to 100 pts, it gives me some random size that is not 100 pts. So regarless if I enter the size to 72 points, hit enter, the text will no longer be 72 points.
    I run into this issue often because I like to eyeball my text sizes when I'm doing a project and Free Transform is perfect for this. But if I have several text blocks of the same size and I change the size of one and need to match the others to the new size, this issue make matching them very difficult and frustrating.
    I know I can fix it by clicking "Character Reset" via the Character panel and then choose my desired font size but that takes time and I don't understand why photoshop wouldn't just give me the font size I choose regarless of free transform or not. Is there a way around this? Is this some setting of Photoshop that I can simply bypas, or is it a glitch with the new CS6 (I do not remember having this issue with CS5)?
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    As usual, the only real way to tell what's better would be to install it and try it.
    I know that Adobe HAS been doing some bugfixes, but like you I have no idea what's specifically fixed in 13.0.4.  Since you have the option, I'd suggest trying it.
    I could try the 13.0.4 update in a cloned system volume but have lacked the motivation, so far. Until I read of a fix for a single bug which has been detrimental to my use of 13.0.1, I'll make do with the software whose behaviour and results is known to me.
    I do know that there has been no fix to 3D rendering being almost useless for Mac users for the 5 months since the 13.0.1 update inflicted the problem. Meanwhile, Adobe has had no problem allocating resources to adding 3D enhancements to the Cloud Photoshop to lure in more customers.
    Who knows, it may fix the issue in this thread.
    Sculp1n replied that their Ps with the problem is up to date when you asked whether they were running 13.0.4 or 13.1.2. I suppose it's possible that they are using 13.1.2, and 13.0.4 has fixes that aren't in 13.1.2.

  • 3D within CS5 Extended... force transform (rotate, move, scale, etc.) on a particular axis...?

    Hello,
    Thanks for any help regarding my question.
    I'm new to 3D as this question will be obvious to 3Ders.
    I'm importing art from either Sketchup or Swift3D. When it is imported I use the varying transform methods:  scale, rotate and move. I utilize the 3D axis UI where it allows me to drag the manipulators on the 3D axis UI.
    Sometimes I'm unable to grab a certain attribute (usually it's rotate because the axis in question (i.e. X) is not visibly available or is behind another axis. So I usually have to move unprecisely to see that axis so I may grab and drag.
    Is there a way to force a transform property on a particular axis? So if I want to rotate on the X axis can I hold down a keyboard shortcut and drag? So it doesn't accidentally move another property I'd like not to transform, or allowing me to perform the transformation without having to move the axis UI so a axis modifier is more visible (thus allowing me to drag)?
    I hope all of that made sense.
    Thanks!!!

    As everything in PS - Ctrl, Alt and shift are your friends.

    Im trying to transform my image into the background image so it fits with the scene, but everytime I go to to free transform, it just shows the ghost outline of what im doing and the original picture just stays, and wont show what i really want it to do.... Please help?

    Have you got this sorted out yet?  You have the two layers, and you are trying to use Free Transform on the 'upper' layer?
    You can't use Free Transform on the Background layer, unless you double click the Background layer, which will turn it into a normal layer.  You'll know this has happened because the little 'lock' icon will disappear.  Is there a lock icon on the upper layer?  That might prevent using Free Transform.
    So you have the upper layer selected in the Layers Panel, and use Ctrl t (Cmd t on a Mac).  Do you see the 'handles' appear in the corners of the layer?  Is the layer turn on?  Does it have and 'eye' icon visible in the Layers Panel?  (You can't use Free Transform on a Layer that is turned off.)  If you have Three layers, and use Free Transform on the middle layer, you'd see the handles and bounding box, but not any movement, because it would be hidden behind the upper layer.  Is that what is happening?

  • Transformation - Rotate only moves path, not selected pixels.

    Hi All,
    I must be missing some simple click somewhere.... Just starting out with the Pen tool, paths and converting into a selection.
    Trying to transform a converted selection pixels made from a path.
    Current layer is visible and selected. Current path is selected. I use the path-selection tool to pick the path. I do "make selection" which turns pixels into a selection. So far, so good.
    After going to Edit | Transform Path | Rotate, the bounding box is displayed. I drag the corner and the bounding box turns along with the path I made. The selection does not move at all. When I hit the 'commit' button, no pixels are moved. Nothing changes in the picture.
    If I do all the above in an untouched fresh .psd file with just a background layer and a layer 1 included, everything works. Whatever is selected rotates fine.
    Why would a Transform Path | Rotate work fine in one photo, but not in another?
    I'm sure it's something simple. Thanks in advance.

    OK, found the solution in another forums.adobe.com post.... but it's non-intuitive.
    The "transform path" menu option instead of "transform" being displayed may have something to do with having multiple paths for an image. Not really sure. It's just a hunch.

    Ah with you now.
    With the selection on screen click on the Move tool. Then check the "Show transform tools"box at the top of the screen. After that transform away...
    I hope this helps

  • Free Transform tool rotates incorrectly?

    Setup (Macintosh/Illustrator CS3): document one has several anchors of text, some left justified, some right, all one line. Below is a simple set of stroked lines (one path about 7 points) showing an outline of an angled box flap, stroked. Selected copy from the Edit menu.
    Document two: pasted these items and selected the Free Transform Tool (E). Bounding box shows with its eight hollow square corners. With the cursor outside of the bounding box, it shows rotate cursor (arrows on each end of curve). Freely rotating this pasted group, the outlined box flap moves as expected, but anchored text rotates twice as fast, sometimes rotating the opposite direction!!?? It won't undo properly either; I have to delete and start from square 1 and pasting. Also, if I convert the text to outline, it does rotate properly; this gives me the impression it only has to do with anchored text.
    Any ideas? Anyone else have this issue? Is there a way I can screen/video capture this if I need to show it?

    Might look better in some kind of movie format, but here's some images of the problem (thank for the link info Mario):
    http://flickcabin.com/public/viewset/716
    Picture 1: Three elements I'm working with= left & right justified text and a 'cup' to help alignment after rotating.
    Picture 2: Same elements with the transform tool selected (bounding box being shown).
    Picture 3, 4, 5: Gradual rotation.
    As for using the rotate tool, that will work, but for as often as I do this, the rotate tool uses a few more steps and slows me down considerably. I know there's other workarounds like using an action for the times the degree of rotation is known, but that doesn't take the glitch away. If the option is there, it should work, and I do prefer this for its speed especially when working with non-complex things as the pictures show.
    Thanks again for any & all help!

  • Free transform tool sticks on rotate (InD CS6)

    Hi folks,
    Using InDesign CS6 (OS X 10.8.4), noticed a weird bug--when using the Free Transform tool on an object, after applying any transformation, the cursor swtiches to the "rotate" icon and won't let me deselect the object. I have to switch to another tool to get out of it. This happens whether I'm using my Wacom tablet, a mouse, or the trackpad.
    Anyone else having this issue? Suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, tried that, I have the most recent driver.

  • All of a sudden the transform tool and free transform tool are grayed out and will not allow me to scale, rotate, or do anything to an image I just scaled?

    I've been using Photoshop for years, but tonight I ran into an issue that I don't understand. I was working with a file that I had been working with for months. I added a new image and resized it to fit as I needed just as I always have (select layer with image > EDIT > TRANSFORM > SCALE.) All was working fine. I added a second image to the file I was working on (I added it by dragging it into the file from another window just as I had added the first image.) However, this time when I tried to select EDIT > TRANSFORM > SCALE this option was not available to me. Only the FREE TRANSFORM PATH or TRANSFORM PATH options were available. When I selected the SCALE in the TRANSFORM PATH menu (just to see what would happen) it started to scale a completely unrelated layer that DID have a path to it. However, the layer of my image was still selected and NOT the layer with the path. This image layer has no path even on it or around it in any way.  I tried to select the folder layer and the same thing happened. It selected this one path and tried to scale it. I selected the layer I just previously scaled and tried to scale it again and it will only allow me to select the transform path option. I selected it to see again what would happen and once again it selected this completely unrelated path on a completely different layer. WHAT?????  This makes absolutely no sense! I have tried restarting both my computer and PS and it won't stop happening! I really need to get this file finished and uploaded to my developer ASAP so I really hope that someone has some insight as to why this is happening.

    hedger,
    How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
    Note that this is boilerplate text.
    If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
    such as your platform (Mac or Win),
    exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
    your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
    the type of file you were working on,
    machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
    what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
    if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
    if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
    someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
    a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Why the Text disappears when I rotate it using Free Transform Tool?

    Hi,
    My Text is visible before rotating it to verticle position using Free Transform Tool. But when once it is rotated to verticle position the text disappears from the Stage. And it is not an animated Text as well? What is the problem?
    Thanks.

    If the textfield is manually placed on the stage, you should be able to select the textfield and click the button for Embedding that is in the Properties panel.

  • Layer via Copy, Free Transform, Multiple Layers, Doesnt work?

    Hello,
    I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6, latest version as of 05/25/12
    I have 19 layers, each has a 1200x1200px texture. These are of course overlapped, so setting them all to visible will only show the top layer.
    All layers are rasterized, and contain 1200x1200px:
    1) I select all 19 layers using shift+click, all are highlighted (in the layer pane).
    2) I select a region using the selection tool, in this case a rectangular region that is 172px high and 35px wide.
    3) I right click the selection, and then select: layer via copy. (Note, Layer via cut is disabled for some reason)
    4) *problem* It creates 19 new layers with the full image from the selected layers and not the selection which is what I wanted to place in the new layers.
    5) *problem* when I right click the selection and select "Free Transform", the transform box surrounds the entire canvas and not the selection.
    6) *problem* when I skew, it skews the entire image and not just the selection.
    7) *problem* Previously, I have been able to select a layer from the layer pane, go to image menu, select adjustments, brightness/contrast, and adjust the brightness/contrast for just that layer. Now it wont let me.
    8) *related problem* If I have 3 layers (background, 1, and 2) on a 1200x1200 canvas, with the image in layer 1 being 150px, and the image in layer 2 being 150x, each rasterized, and then stack the images on 1 and 2 over eachother, then select both layers, then select a region inside the stacked images, then select free transform, the free transform selection embodies all pixels inside the canvas (not the entire canvas this time) and performs the transform on these pixels and not the original selection.
    If I do it making all the layers visible as well as selected, it behaves the same.
    What appears to be happening is Photoshop is ignoring the selection and for some reason is using a pixel region (or if pixels cover the entire canvas, the whole image) when performing actions intended for the selection.
    What's strange is when I made these textures, I started out with 19 150x150 pictures, I set the canvas size to 1200x1200, selected all the layers in the layer pane, selected the 150x150 image in the middle, and was able to move all 19 textures to the top right corner, able to switch to transform on all 19 pictures, able to rotate 180 degrees all 19 pictures, was able to flip horizontal all 19 pictures, then able to copy all 19 pictures to new layers, move the 19 pictures all at the same time to the right 150 pixels, rinse and repeat, to eventually come out with 19 1200x1200 textures tiled from the 150px pictures. In other words, I did exactly what I am attempting to do with the 1200x1200 pictures with the 150x150 pixtures and it worked like a champ.
    Something has changed, maybe an option somewhere got clicked, something. I don't know.
    The end goal of course is to take a selection of all 19 of the 1200x1200 pictures, transform, then skew that image to make a collage of images applied to an added background. Performing this on all 19 textures and getting the same exact skew, etc would take days considering I need to do about 15 of different portions of the tile.
    Need some help here... is there an option somewhere that makes photoshop ignore the selection and perform the actions on all the images?
    Best regards,
    Dustin

    Just ran into this problem today Dustin. You can only create new layers via copy from one layer. What I ended up having to do is copy all of my images that were on different layers. Then I merged them. Select all the images you copied>Layer>Merge. So now I have two copies of artwork on the same canvas. One that is all different layers and one that is now one layer.  Then I was able to select the portions of the new merged layer I wanted and create new layers via copy. Then I erased the extra, merged layer.
    You don't have to copy your initial images. I just did in case I wanted to edit them separately later.
    I hope I understood your first problem correctly.

  • Elements 9 - how to add the grid over "free transform" to twist an image/layer

    Hi Every one!
    Im sure I asked this before, but I cant for the life of me find the post!! I think I must have dreamed it!! (shame I didnt dream the answer lol)
    OK so Im now on photoshop elements 9, Is there a way to properly bend and transform a layer? I USED to for to free transform (control
    +T) then click on a grid at the top of the screen which ment I could bend any part of the picture...
    If I tell you what Im trying to do it might help?
    Im trying to bend a rainbow.. at the moment Ive used the rectangle tool and created a rectangle rainbow, but Id like to bend it into shape, maybe even distort it a little to look like this...
    stbanabaspreschool.vpweb.co.uk/default.html

    Well, I think the best way to create a rainbow would be to use a vector program, but there's a way to use PSE9 to get a rainbow effect that might be useful.
    Create a new image.
    Use the fill tool with a spectrum fill (I used the "Medium" spectrum):
    Create a small, tight circular fill:
    Zoom in to give yourself room to work on it.
    Make a circular selection around the outer edge of the spectrum, invert the selection and delete it:
    Make a small circular selection in the center, delete that; make a rectangular selection covering the bottom half and delete that:
    Select the spectrum and use Layer...New...Layer via Copy to get the spectrum on its own layer with a transparent background.  Then squish the spectrum:
    Rotate the spectrum 90 deg. right and move it to the left of the image area:
    Use Filter...Distort...Shear with these settings to pull the spectrum into an arc:
    Rotate the spectrum back left, and transform it into something useable:
    The layers look like this:
    It ain't perfect, but might be good enough.

  • Movable elements of a layer - option "free transform" in Photoshop Elements 7

    Hello,
    I hope that someone can help a little bit and answer my questions. Thank you.
    Description of the task:
    I want to create a tool which is able to visualize the positions of pieces on a game board. At the moment I'm using Photoshop Elements 7.
    I think the following procedure would be appropriate:
    2 layers, the basic layer would show the game board and the images of the pieces would be on the second layer. If I try to do that with Photoshop Elements 7 then each time when I insert an image of a piece a new layer is created. I don't need a layer per figure. Yes, one could reduce a layer afterwards. But it's not so comfortable this way.
    In addition the images of the pieces should be movable on the game board. There is the option "free transform" in Photoshop Elements 7 but only one element (one piece) is movable afterwards. All the inserted elements should be movable.
    So my question: Is it feasible within Photoshop Elements 7? If not, which version of Photoshop Elements would be adequate or which software do I need?

      After adding each piece use the to menu:
    Layer >> Merge Down
    However you will only be able to move all the pieces together. You need separate layers to move the pieces individually.

  • Firefox crashes with css transform rotate

    Firefox 25 crashes when using a CSS transform. Just try this in jsfiddle with Firefox 25. I think it worked in previous versions:
    HTML:
    <pre><nowiki><a href="/feedback/new?locale=es" class="sug_tab" data-target="#modalcontainer" data-toggle="modal">Ask me</a></nowiki></pre>
    CSS:
    <pre><nowiki>a.sug_tab{
    font-family: "MS Sans Serif", Geneva, sans-serif;
    letter-spacing: 1px;
    position:fixed;
    left:-45px;
    top:25%;
    background-color: #554455;
    color:#fff;
    -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg);
    -moz-transform: rotate(-90deg);
    -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3)";
    filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3);
    font-weight: bold;
    font-size:16px;
    padding-bottom:4px;
    padding-top:4px;
    padding-left: 6px;
    padding-right: 6px;
    z-index: 8888;
    }</nowiki></pre>

    I fixed it just changing the font. But the issue is still there. As it's been said by Swarnava It seems it will be fixed in Firefox 26.
