Free up disc space!

yo guys!!
well i am loving FCPX, really enjoying using it!
whats the proper way to free up disc space though please after i have finished working on a project!
do i go movies>final cut events and delete the event please? or do it in FCPX itself?
whats the best and most practical way to do this please?
many thanks!!

Deleting at the project level essentially just deletes render files, which can be sizable, but certainly doesn't cover everything involved.
anyone know if i just go in the movies>final cut events folder and just delete that please?
Yes, you can do this, and it does delete all the original media (if copied to the event) and transcoded media (e.g., optimized/proxy). You can also do this within FCPX itself by selecting the event, and from the File menu choose "Move Event to Trash." FCPX will warn you that any projects that might use the event will have a missing media icon, but it sounds like you are also deleting the projects as well.

  • HT4007 I have just transferred all my raw, jpeg & tiff files into LR4 and using to opportunity to delete old raw files to free up disc space. How can i completely remove a raw file from my msc disc??

    I have just transferred all my raw, jpeg & tiff files into LR4 and using the  opportunity to delete old raw files to free up disc space. How can i completely remove a raw file from my mac disc??

    I'd be careful here: LR references files. It can copy them, like from an SD card to your hard drive, but it doesn't necessarily make duplicates. So when you say you "transferred" those files "into" LR it just means you referenced existing files. And if you delete those they're gone, unless you've made copies. LR does not import files by copying them into a managed library like Aperture does.

  • What in Windows 7 can I safely delete to free up disc space?

    ...I made a rather serious error by creating only a 12 gb partition on my MB Pro for Boot Camp; somewhere I'd read that the Windows installation was only going to be 5 or 6 gig, and I really just need to run Quickbooks on it. But the installation sucked up almost the entire partition, and I'm looking for things to delete. I deleted "Microsoft Games" and disabled the paging file, but I'd love to free up more space (I already tried the "free up space" thing in the control panel, which did delete a bunch of temporary files). Backing up and re-installing the Mac and Windows partitions so I can increase the size of the Boot Camp partition would be an amazing root canal, so if anyone has any tips on how to free up some disc space on there without killing myself, I'd appreciate it!

    Hi George,
    seems like you already have done most of what you really can do with such a problem.
    You might wanna have a look at the installed programs (from the 'Software"-Tab) to determine if you can uninstall any not-needed programs.
    However, 12GB for Windows 7 is indeed too small a size, so you should really think about increasing the partition size.
    Either by going the "root canal"-road with deleting your Windows and redoing the installation again with a bigger sized partition.
    Or by using something like CampTune form Paragon http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/
    But since you are "fumbling" with both your Windows partition and your OSX partition, you shouldn't use it without having/making backups before.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Diminishing Disc Space

    My disc space keeps fluctuating daily, even overnight when the computer is off. I installed leopard when it came out onto my 2006 Macbook Pro and deleted the "previous system" a few days ago to free up disc space. The disc space increased only for a while and then went right back down to just over 10 gb. I've read that if the disc space is under 10 gb, that its a problem. My computer has been running slow lately and I suspect its from the disc space. I have also transferred most of my documents to an external hard drive. I haven't removed any caches yet because I am unsure as to which caches can be removed and what that will do to my computer. I have never noticed this problem of disc space in the past and I had much larger files (including movies) on the computer. Can anyone help??

    Run Disc Inventory X and see what's taking up the space.
    10GB of free space is OK but if you want to delete the cache files it won't hurt.
    If you've been using Hibernation mode then there will be a large sleepimage backup file on their that's as big as your installed RAM, you can turn safe sleep off and delete this file if you wish.

  • Mixdown asking for more disc space

    My FCP has been a little buggy lately. When I try to do an audio mixdown I get the error message asking me to free up disc space with the Render Manager. The thing is I have Plenty of space on the external drive that the scratch disc is set to (140gigs). I have 14 tracks for this short 13 minute piece.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks everyone.
    Hugh

    FCP errors are rarely indicative or accurate. Could be anything.
    But you may want to check the scratch setup anyway, just to make sure this particular project hasn't been set to capture to your system drive.
    Try some other audio rendering operation of export to see where FCP thinks stuff should be going.

  • OK to remove MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.6.dmg from Downloads folder to free disc space?

    To free disc space I've been removing old files.  MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.6.dmg is by far the largest, at 1 GB.  I seem to recall using this file when I had to revert back to 10.6.6 after having font problems with 10.6.7.  I believe it's OK to just remove it to a backup source, but want to check before doing that, just in case.  Thanks for your council and any enlightenment on the function of such update dmgs, once they've been used.

    IMHO you have a more serious problem here. If 1 GB is going to make a difference in the amount of free space you can notice then your disk is probably too full and you should be looking for more drastic solutions to gain free space such as deleting your files.

    I'm trying to burn a Magic DVD in iDVD and I keep getting a message stating that there is not enough free disc space for encoding the remaining assets. How do I resolve this?

    It means your hard drive is too full to accomodate the project and its many swap files etc.
    You need to move some files (not applications) to your external hard drive, and keep at least 25-30GB free.

    I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space."  What does this mean?

    Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

    Whoops, I think I should have posted my message here...Anyway, I'm trying to download Bioshock Infinite from the app store but get a message saying I don't have enough disc space.  The game requires 30 G and when I look at my internal hard drive it shows 60 G free.

    It means you do not have enough Space on your Device and need to create More Space on Your Device by Deleting some items off your device.

  • How much free disc space should be on a new MBP?

    On my brand new MBP, my first mistake was I did not immediately time machine the new mac or record the "available" disc size in it when it first came out of the box.
    My next mistake was I ran migration assistant twice, and it failed with unspecified errors both times.
    Now when I go to Apple->AboutThisMac->Storage, it reports OTHER as 121.48 GB, and Audio/Apps/Movies/Photos/Backups together are several dozen GB in total. So OTHER is taking up most of the used disc space right now.
    Disc utility says the HD has used 151GB total, with 348.1 GB available.
    Capacity of the disc size is 499.1GB
    I have not yet put any data on this MBP, unless the migration utility did it without me knowing it and didn't delete it when it failed.
    What exactly is OTHER data?
    How can I find out if my failed migration attempts has put 100GB or thereabouts on this machine that I can safely delete?
    How much disc space is USED right out of the box on this MBP (2014 13" retina, 500gig drive)?
    Thanks!!!!

    Here is a definition of OTHER:  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202867
    Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It will show all of you files and the respective sizes.  this should permit you to see exactly what you have on your MBP.
    I would estimate that the OSX and the initial applications should take about 20 GB space or less.
    Ciao.

  • Free Disc Space

    Hi!
    Does someone know a way to determinate the free disc space on harddisc or floppy disc with the help of the Java API??? Maybe there should be a way with a java.io.File object (returned by java.io.File.listRoots())...
    And another question: Does someone know a "non Pure-Java" way to receive the number and names of mounted filesystem under ?nix. I can only get the / directory, but I want to know, how many drives are in a system and how many free disc space is available at every on this drives/partitions/directories....

    I think just command.com will do, you don't have to put it in the full path.If you're on NT then it's different, it' cmd.exe . Plus I think the
    switch you passed should be a capital C rather than lowercase c.
    For convenience you might want to stuff everything into an array and pass it to exec as a array.
    OK, the CreateProcess IOException comes from the fact
    that the "dir" command isn't a real command (I think
    its part of the command.com). Now I tried to start a
    process with the following commandline:
    ...exec("c:\\windows\\command.com /c dir c:\\");
    The pathname can be substitute by system variables
    (see Properties). But the process doesn't return any
    kind of text (only on the console...arg)...

    } catch (Throwable t) {

    while (bisout.available()!=0) {
    buffer.append((char)bisout.read());
    while (biserr.available()!=0) {
    buffer.append((char)biserr.read());
    // wait 2min.
    if (loops>120000) {
    process.destroy();
    System.out.println("command exceeded timeout
    timeout of 2min: "+command);
    break;
    bisout.close();
    biserr.close();
    return buffer.toString();
    Note: This works only on Windows System!
