Free up memory

I would like to know how you to free up memory in photoshop elements. I have bought some actions and I can not use them because it keeps telling me I am out of memory. I have took most of my pictures off the program and have deleted some of the free actions that I downloaded and it still tells me that I am out of memory.

These are two distinct and unrelated issues.
So we need to know how much memory you have in your computer. Which means we also need to know what operating system you are using.
The storage space limit message probably refers to your online storage of photos on Adobe.com or whatever they are calling it these days, and I can't help you with that.

  • The amount of free SGA memory available in the database

    Hi,
How can we calculate the amount of free SGA memory available from the instance if the database is not set for Memory management. If the sga_max_size is set for a particular value and the db_cache_size and the shared_pool and all other components are specified, how can one determine whether all the memory allocated for SGA is in use?

How can we calculate the amount of free SGA memory available from the instance if the database is not set for Memory management. When the SGA is allocated, the memory is fixed, and none of it is "free" really.
how can one determine whether all the memory allocated for SGA is in use? Are you asking about usage WITHIN the pools? If so, shortly after startup the database buffer and shared_pool will fill-up and stay full . . . . .
Here is the script that I use to see inside the data buffer contents:
    set pages 999
    set lines 80
    spool blocks.lst
    ttitle 'Contents of Data Buffers'
    drop table t1;
    create table t1 as
    select
    o.object_name object_name,
    o.object_type object_type,
    count(1) num_blocks
    from
    dba_objects o,
    v$bh bh
    where
    o.object_id = bh.objd
    and
    o.owner not in ('SYS','SYSTEM')
    group by
    o.object_name,
    o.object_type
    order by
    count(1) desc
    column c1 heading "Object|Name" format a30
    column c2 heading "Object|Type" format a12
    column c3 heading "Number of|Blocks" format 999,999,999,999
    column c4 heading "Percentage|of object|data blocks|in Buffer" format 999
    select
    object_name c1,
    object_type c2,
    num_blocks c3,
    (num_blocks/decode(sum(blocks), 0, .001, sum(blocks)))*100 c4
    from
    t1,
    dba_segments s
    where
    s.segment_name = t1.object_name
    and
    num_blocks > 10
    group by
    object_name,
    object_type,

  • How to get the amount of free physical memory?

How to get the amount of free physical memory?
    (without sudo or root)

vmstat will give it to you.
Although the question depends a bit on what you mean by free memory.
The figure vmstat labels free (in any reasonably recent version of solaris) actually represents memory mostly filled with cached file contents. So it represents memory that can be easily released if needed by something more important.
Like most unix versions, solaris will use any free memory to cache files thats have been read/written previously just in case they are needed again

  • Can I safely move my iTunes library to an external hard drive, to free up memory?

As an elementary music teacher, I have more than 10,000 songs in my iTunes library.
I also have a lot of video footage of my students' performances.
I need to free up memory and am wondering if there is a safe way to move the iTunes library to an external hard drive, and, if it is safe, how difficult will it be for me to access it from the external hard drive.
On my school computer, one of the "techies" moved that iTunes library to an external drive and ended up quadrupling the size of it, so want to be sure that if this makes sense, that I do it the right way!!!
    Thanks so much!

Can I move those songs to an external hard drive?
    yes.
Will that improve the speed of my computer?
maybe. what is the total capacity of your boot drive and how much free space is left ?

  • Trying to free up memory... maxmem? crackmem? shrink-a-os? which one?

Hi there, new to the BB game so to speak. I currently have an 8310 with os 4.5.0.163 and loving the phone so far.
I recently just installed BBM5 and I noticed that it chewed up a lot of my free memory. I currently have 20mb free after restart, about 17mb free after running. I do not have many apps installed either, just operna mini, poynt, mobile data alerter, google maps and BB app world.
I did some searching on how to free up memory and have read all the DIY threads but do all the memory programs listed to the same thing??
Is there anyone prefered over the other??
I have tried using crackmem and maxmem, I recently stumbled onto shrink-a-os but was unable to find any reviews on them.
bottom line is I guess.... which program is better to use?? or is it all the same **bleep** just different GUI?
    Thanx for everyones time

Personally, I do the memory cleaning manually.

  • How do I get into iPhoto to free up memory when I can't get in due to no memory?

How do I get into iPhoto to free up memory when I can get in due to no memory?

Are you being prevented booting into your MBP due to the HDD being full?  If so try a a safe boot:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
If no success, try Target Disk Mode:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH10725?locale=en_US
Or take out the HDD and install it in an enclosure.  Connect it to another Mac and take some data off of it so that you can boot to it when you re-install it.
    Ciao.

  • What is the best way to free up memory?

Obviously emptying trash. But I have a couple large iMovie files -- from when I was assembling the movie, which is now complete and in a separate iTunes folder. I'm uncertain what will happen if I delete the original, which takes up a massive amount of space.

    memory or storage
memory is mostly used when one are speaking about the working memory as how much Ram the computer has this of this as the kitchen table
storage on the other hand is where data is stored think of this as the fridge
if one wish to free up memory then one look in the dock and right click on the apps with a white dot under the icon they are programs running in the background taking up memory and choosing quit in the context menu
if one wish to free storage one can uninstall big programs one does not need or delete as you say some movies or install packets in download or the likes

  • What is the best way to free up memory easily?

what is the best way to free up memory easily? I have a fairly typical makeup of iTunes music, iMovie, iPhoto files, which is best to attack?
    Thanks

If you're talking Hard Drive space, you'll want to start just by deleting the largest of files. Try removing movies first, as they're usually in the Gigs of data, since they contain video and audio. If you're storing original photos those can be as large as 8mb/each photo, and if you've taken hundreds, they add up quickly. Try saving them as smaller sizes, or deleting unwanted photos, and lastly, songs do take up space, but depending on the quality, duration and file type will be anywhere from 30kb to 10mb.
Try removing some unneccesary applications too! Please let me know if I solved your question by using the buttons below, or reply to this thread if you need additional assistance.

  • I have a lot of movies on my computer and need to free up memory.  What is the best solution, if I think I may need these movies in the future?

I'm an elementary music teacher and my students perform regularly so I have a lot of their performances on my computer.  Now I need to free up memory so am wondering what the best solution would be, given that I may need access to these movies again in the future.
I do have an external hard drive, but have never been able to figure out if you can store movies on it, instead of on the computer hard drive.
    Thanks so much!

    Good evening,
I see you have another post about deleting movies and iDVD projects.  Wanting the video to be available in the future is a significant criteria because video files are very large and are very compressed to fit on a DVD.   If you want the video to be available in the future for additional editing (eg, highlights of the year), ideally you'd want to save the video in a format which will easily allow this.   To me, this suggests you delete the iDVD projects but keep the iMovie files for future editing.  This accomplishes the easy editing objective but keeps a lot of large files on your hard drive (each iMovie/iDVD project will be about 20% smaller -- assuming a 4 to 1 compression).
If you are willing to accept some additional work in the future and are okay with some reduction in video quality, you can pull sections from an existing DVD and use iMovie to combine them.  The extra work is required to decompress the DVD, and this is also the reason for loss of some sharpness.  This strategy reduces the file size of your combined projects by about 80% if you save disc images (virtual DVDs), or if you save the physical  DVDs, you save 100% of the space.
I'd decide about the tradeoffs before jumping into action.

  • Is there a way to free up memory in Solaris

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to free up memory in Solaris manually ? the way we can do it in Linux for example :
    [xml]echo `/bin/date` "************* Memory Info Before *************"
    free -m
    sync
    echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    echo `/bin/date` "************* Memory Info After *************"
    free -m[xml]
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have two Solaris 11 VMs with Oracle Clusterware running on VBox, both of them with 4GiB RAM, problem is they get slower and slower and then all of a suden one of them gets crashed, it happens so frequently that I just cannot work, increasing RAM is out of question, previously I was running the same setup on Oracle Linux 5 and I was able to tweak the memory using the above script and never got a crash.
I need to find a way to tune the memory in solaris so the VMs can stay up and I can do the work.
Here are the mem stats from one of the server, this will give you an idea as to whats happening and you may be able to suggest me a way to tune them.
Just to let you know I am very new in Solaris so every bit of information will be very helpful to get this problem resolved.
    echo ::memstat | mdb -k

  • Is there an easy way to free up memory without deleting important files?

I am trying to free up memory on my MacBook without deleting important files.  I'm not sure which files I can delete permanently without interfering with the operating system or applications.  Any advice?

You can delete any document files you've stored in the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders located within your Home folder.  Or you can replace the hard drive with a larger drive or offload documents to an external storage drive then delete from the internal drive.
