Free up space on server

In order to free up hard disk space on our test machine.I have deleted one huge table (20GB size) however still i am not able to see space freed up :(
I have also tried purge recycle bin after deleting table. Please let me know if you have any idea about this

you did not mention OS and oracle version
Create a sepreate tablespace
use alter table move command to move all the table to the created one
then drop the big tablespace which is troubling you
try to resize or
if you use 11g may be shrink cammond could work but i'm nor sure that it work with Permanent tablspace. Sybrandba could help in this regard

...my post also deletes on Thunderbird. Please make an option to prevent it, so deleting on a server doesn't effect mail in the Thunderbird. I would be so happy to have it...

First Thunderbird portable is supported by its author at portableapps.com.
Secondly you are describing exactly how the IMAP email standard works and Thunderbird has no control over that.
Thunderbird has Local Folders to move messages that you want to keep locally. Maybe the portable version does too.

• SMB errors copying from Windows Mac serv - "Not Enough Free Disk Space"

Mac OS X 10.5.5 server with 4TB usable internal space (RAID5 volume) shared out via SMB so that windows workstations (XP Pro SP3) on local subnet can mount them.
when copying files from internal drives on workstations to SMB share on the Mac fileserver, I get no problems. When copying files from external (USB 2.0) drives from workstation to server, i get constant errors of:
"Cannot copy x: There is not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again."
I've tried all different combinations of SMB settings with permissions and opt locks etc, but so far found nothing that works.
Anyone run into this and resolved it?

UPdate Update... after turning logging to high, i've found the following error in my SMB logs upon copying one of the seemingly random files (I can now make the error happen by copying the same file that caused the error)

How do I clean up mail in my icloud? I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room). When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room. Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there? If so, how do I do it? Also, on a related subject, why does my mail not sync accross all devices? ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices? How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem? Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
Thank-you for the help!

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

How do I free up space when the startup disk is full?

O Trejo, greetings;
I am not the Wizard but a mere citizen of Oz who wears green tinted glasses as all others do.
DaisyDisk appears to perform a similar function as OmniDiskSweeper which I still prefer due probably due to my familiarity with it.
I am not familiar with OSX Server, so I am off the hook on this one. If you go to the OSX Server forum, there will be forum members who will be able to address your query. This is the link:

• Decreased min free swap space

Hello everyone,
due to technical problems, in 07/Dic/2005 we had to replace a disk in one of our cluster server of SAP R/3 Enterprise. We also increased its level security from RAID 0 to RAID 5.
But today we have detected than since that moment, the min free swap space has decreased considerably, from 12800 KB (approx.) to 1100 KB (approx) !! (with ST06 transaction). The replaced disk has the SAME characteristics of the previous one
How can we solve this situation and return to original swap space values? Which is the optimal configuration of swap space in SAP and Windows 2003 Server?? We have two nodes in a cluster (one with the application server and one with the database), and each one has 4Gb of memory.
Current commit charge values of Windows 2003 Server task Manager are:
Commit charge (K):
Limit: 7931568
Peak: 7925732
This is the SAP answer to the note I opened:
"Please ask your hardware partner about this. At the moment I do not know anything about the symptom on other customer systems. My opinion is that the workload has been changed, thus increased peak values. Please look at the installation guide "
Can yoy help me?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Oskar,
My suggestion:
Activate NT performance monitor and try to identify
the time when you have peak usage of swap and application that caused it. To my knowledge, even 12800 KB free swap is not acceptable amount (at least, there should be couple of hundreds megabites available). Check your process monitor to see what applications take much memory. If you replaced your disk on the C: drive of the other MSCS node, I don't see any ways that this replacement could affect to the other node swap size. (I am assuming that C: drive is not sharing through the nodes)

Any idea for this problem ?
Thanks in advanced.

Hi Carlos,
As per error message, you check the space required for your server installation : -
Please make sure that you meet following system requirements:
-Operating System:
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista
-Hostname must not exceed 13 characters
-NTFS-File system
-Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher
-At least 1 GB RAM (2-4 GB recommended)
-Pagefile size according to your RAM settings.
-Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)
-30 GB hard disk space temporary during installation - 24 GB permanent
-High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)
-Make sure that no other SAP system is installed on your computer
-The SAP system requires several ports for communication services. Therefore the file %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\services must not include an entry for the ports 3200, 3600, 3900 and 8000. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#). (Note: The entry sapmsNSP 3600 for dialog instances may not exist, as it is set to 0 in Trial versions).
-If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Arun

• We have a very big issue here, Patch Tuesday didn't work correctly yesterday, and the patches took all the free drive space away.

Hello
We have a very big issue here, Patch Tuesday didn't work correctly yesterday, and the patches took all the free drive space away.
Before we started with the Patches, we had one Gig of free space on our hard drive, now we are down to less than 10 Megs!!!
What happened is that the patches didn't work, we had to try them 7 times, and every time they created a 'temporary restore point' which we don't know where that point is.
The server has crashed twice since, we were able to place it back online but we're afraid it will crash again.
We have several customers on that server, we are very worried,
Can you please help us?
Thank you

1179648 kB available space is comparable with 1.2GB. Both are the available space.
Thank you for your help. From the error you reported in your original post
You do not have enough free disk space to create the database. You need at least 1428480 kB on /opt/oracle, you have only 1179648 kB available, please alocate more free disk space.

• HT1719 free disk space on ipod shuffel

How do you free disk space on ipod shuffel 4th generation?

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
Volume Name: D: Free Space: 727769088
It seems 700MB free space on your drive D. You can change/disable the threshold of the alert.
SBS console, Network Tab, select the SBS server or computer, select View notifications settings. Select Performance Counters, select Percent Free Disk Space and click Edit. Uncheck it if you don't want the notifications.
Please note that this is a global setting and not specific to a particular disk drive.
To free space on your drive, you could use windirstat to trace the large size files easily.
If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.

I have searched and read most of the related topics in the forums, but no one seems to have a solution to this issue.
I am running OS X Leopard Server 10.5.4 and have several clients connecting via VPN to access file sharing.
The Macs use L2TP for the VPN, Windows uses PPTP. Everyone can connect and see the files on the server.
The mac clients connect and share the same folders via AFP. They have no trouble copying files to the server.
The windows clients connect and share via SMB. They repeatedly get an error while trying to copy files to the server.
Here is the error message:
"Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy FileName: There is not enough free disk space.
Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again."
So we have tried different files, different folders, but no matter what we do the copying fails from windows to the server. The server has 570 GB free - Only 20 gigs used.
I have removed the acl permissions, added them back in via server admin, and still have the problem. Windows clients are running XP SP 2 and the macs are 10.5.3 and 10.5.4.
Does anyone have a solution? Should we roll back to 10.4 Server?

• Does DELETE operation frees up space

Hi,
Does DELETE on some rows of a table also free up space on the tablespace.
If no, how to actually free up the tablespace occupied memory in the tablespace after a delete operation.
Thanks,
Himadri

> Rows with a specific condition should be removed and the space
should be freed up. That is what i am looking for.
Oracle does not work like that. For good (performance related) reasons.
Oracle has "percentage used" and "percentage free" space parameters. These you/the DBA need to tune for the optimal balance between performance and space utilisation.
These percentages serve as low- and high-water marks. When there are data above the high water mark, the block is removed from the free list (free list = blocks with sufficient space for more rows to be added to the block).
When the data in a non-free blocks drop below the low water mark, that block is moved back to the free list.
When you delete data, the blocks affected will free space. However, if the current space used of these affected blocks does not drop below the set low water mark, these blocks will not be moved to the free list.
When dealing with large table and deleting rows, you'll often find that no space has been released. The number of rows deleted are scattered across so many disctinct blocks, that the delete did not free sufficient space in any of these blocks to result in them moving to the free list.
