Dear all, I have just bought a MacBook pro with osx lion on 25th last month. I wanted to know if I can use the methods described above to update to osx mountain lion or I have to buy osx mountain lion from the app store?

Here are the rules to qualify for the free upgrade:

(has to be purchased from Apple or authorized reseller).

  • Download of update to OSX Mountain Lion

I was updating to OSX Mountain Lion, used my computer for something else and the download got interrupted.
How do I resume the download?

That is a point many users miss...even Apple has limited bandwidth when it comes time to release a major operating system and millions of users want to download at the same time...during the first two weeks one should expect delays and long, long download times.
It is getting to the point that suggesting downloading during "off hours" isn't even good advice...world-wide there is no such thing as an off hours time segment
I have a very fast f9ber optic carrier and download took around thirty minutes...another good reason to tell people to make a copy of the installer before doing the installation so you do not need to download again.

  • Problems with a Game - Should I update to OSX Mountain Lion?

    Howdy,
To cut a long story short and get straight to the point I've been having problems with the Sims 3 for god knows how long and its starting to drive me mad. What I'm now wondering is whether updating to OSX Mountain Lion would help at all. The reason I've asked this is because I read a post by someone that said the only way to update your video card (which might be causing the problem) would be to upgrade the whole operating system.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sarah
P.s. If you need anymore details or anything just let me know

You can not upgrade your Video card at all.
Mountain Lion may help, but I don't know that it will.

Try installing the Epson drivers from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398
and then seeing if adding and printing with USB works.
This site really works and my computer is now printing.

  • Ever since updating to OSX Mountain Lion, I can't access my FCPX files

When I went into FCPX after updating to OSX Mountain Lion, I was told I needed to update my FCP files or they wouldn't play. I clicked update and left it running all night (I have a lot of large files). The next day, after rebooting, I tried to access my files, but when I click on the "reel" symbol to load a project, the Apple wheel starts to spin endlessly. It goes on for hours, and finally I have to force quit the program. Everything appears to be there, but I can't bring anything up or work on projects. The second the program starts, the wheel starts spinning.

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • HT1338 Any one have any idea how to hide unwanted updates in OSX Mountain Lion? Many thanks

Any one have any idea how to hide unwanted updates in OSX Mountain Lion? Many thanks

    Captfred,
Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately no hide option is available by right clicking the Motion 5.0..4. update.
Seems strange that this does not appear to have been included, unless I'm missing something.

I have recently bought my Mac mini ( July 12) and have already requested my free update code for mountain lion, got a reference nr, but I still haven't received a code via email to update with? Its been 12 days. Any advice?

I am still in the return window but i really do not want to return my mac as i know it has the ability to do what i want, my problem is just finding the software that will work as i know there has been a lot of complications with OS X Mountain Lion with softwares that caim to be compatible but then later turn out not to be.
I have been a windows user for years and this is really my first mac but apart from the hole software issue i find the mac 10x better than any windows computer i have ever used. For example i bought a HP laptop 4 weeks ago and has nothing but problems. At first the fans stopped working and making weird noises and then it began switching off when ever it felt like it and freezing like mad when i was trying to access the smallest program. I have found that now a days you dont get what you pay for with Windows especially since Windows 8 was released. Also Laptops such as HP now are just crammed with cheap parts, they dont take pride in their systems like they once used to unlike Apple. I know i will get more than a year or 2 out my mac (hopefully a lot more) but with windows systems it just seems to break all the time costing more money on extending warrantys. Also i like mac because i dont need to send it away if i ever get a problem, i can just take it into the apple shop half a mile down the road and they will fix it in store. Where as with windows i am waiting 2 weeks+ to just hear back from them.

  • I updated to OsX mountain lion in August and since then my lines are overlapping on some things.

I upgraded to osx mountain lion in August 2012 and since then I have had trouble with lines overlapping in some things.  To the point where I can't read the type.

Does clicking Command- cure it (by reducing the font size on the page)?

  • Will this model of iMac get me a free upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion?

I understand that Apple is letting some users upgrade their previous OSX to Mountain Lion FOR FREE.
I have never purchased a Mac before and I was about to buy this iMac http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/apple/imac-21-5-inch-desktop-sku-69131/
The model number is MC309X/A and the current OS is Snow Leopard.
I was wondering, after purchasing, if I will be able to use the FREE upgrade program with this link http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
    Thankyou!

Am I eligible for the free upgrade?

  • Update to OSX Mountain Lion ?

    Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro which I bought circa June 2007, currently have software 10.6.8 with 2.2 GHz processor and 2GB RAM. Will this be enough to update to ML and has anyone else had any problems with an old machine?
I have about 15GB of Hard drive space free but I am thinking of moving my iTunes library onto an external HD which will free up about 50GB of space.
    Any advice will be welcome.
    thanks in advance.
    Justin

"Bare Minimum" Mountain Lion requirements (and as a practical matter, 4 GB's of RAM have been reported to be the least you can use to get any system speed at all, and you should always have at least 15% of your hard drive empty for swap files if you want any speed):
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported
    Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Hope this helps

  • If i have mac os x lion running on my MAC book Pro and i need to update with OSX mountain lion, Do i need to format ?

If i have OSX lion running MAC book pro and i want to update my OS without formatting and loosing my existing data, Is it possible ?
This could be very simple question but not for me as i am unexperience with OSX installations

Make sure your Mac qualifies to run Moutain Lion.
See Step 1 here >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
As for the recovery disk, yes.
Actually it's an upgrade not an update to go from Lion to Mountain Lion.

  • Since I downloaded the first update of OSX Mountain Lion iWork '09 won't open. All that comes up is an error report.

My iWork '09 (pages, numbers, keynote) all won't open since i downloaded the first update for Mountain Lion. When i try to open it, it just comes up with this error report:
Anybody else have this problem? Anybody know how i can fix it? Or even get round it, so i can save my documents in Microseft Word format, so I can use them if/ when i need them elsewhere?

Remove (Uninstall) iWorks then reinstall then the first thing to do is run Sftware update.
Or go to thje Apple Down load site and get the newest updates for iWorks 09.
