Free Update to HoudahGeo released

I just returned from MacWorld and saw the HoudahGeo folks there - they just released a new version what has the ability to autocode photos from other photos - typically you would take one photo with your iPhone and then lots of photos with your camera - HoudahGeo can then Geocode the camera photos to the same location as the iPhone (or other GeoCoded photo) based on time
If you own HoudahGeo click on the check for updates in in the file menu

First of all, welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately, your question is impossible to answer as Apple has not disclosed a release date for Leopard at this time. All they have stated is that it will be released during the first half of 2007. I am not certain where you are getting your information that it will be released the first of the year but until Apple announces a date, I would suggest you ignore that information as it is at best a guess. Historically, they have not offered upgrade pricing except for those computers bought between the day the release is announced and the day it ships, generally a 10-14 day period. Other than that you pay the full price.

Mainstage 2 : The poeples who buy complete version of Logic with Mainstage 2 will not have free update of Mainstage ??? This is outragous !!!

I also agree that the paid update is a sham to those who bought the full boxed set of Logic.  The ONLY reason I bought the boxed version of Logic was to get MainStage....I don't use anything else in that package.  So ultimately, I've paid hundreds of dollars for a product that's now selling for $30 and I don't even get a free update.....sheesh!
As far as this logic goes: " MS 2.2 is a feature release" and that I "never bought that version of MainStage with the Logic Studio box": bollocks!  Many consider a feature release to be more than a .1 incremental update...OSX versions excluded.  With the exception of major OSX updates, I've never experienced being charged money for a .1 incremental update, and the vast majority of software developers have a policy that incremental updates are free until a new version is released i.e. v.2.5.6 to v3.0.  I'm sure that's not always the case, but it's definitely the case in an overwhelming majority of cases.
Shame on Apple for this price gouge.

I'm in the same position, the store said they didn't know of any new release, so i bought my macbook pro to find out about mountain lion. I really hope that i'm not going to pay for the upgrade. New to apple, also last month bought my Ipad 3, really thought that Airplay would have been on my book pro, nope, waste of time.........need that update to use it. Back i the box then, get the windows 7 ultimate pro back out until then.

  • If I upgrade to Lion now will mountain lion be a free update?

If I upgrade to Lion now will mountain lion be a free update?

I really hope that Apple will do the right/ethical thing and give recent (within the 8-9 months) purchasers of macbook, macbook pros, macbook air, and people who just bought single OS copies of Lion OS-either a free copy of Mountain Lion or a huge discount price on the OS ($5.00 max ). Let's be honest here....Mountain Lion is the patched up Lion. Apple couldn't release an update large enough to fix the problems with Lion so they instead created a new OS. They know that is the truth.
As someone who  just bought a macbook pro that came pre-installed with Lion (had no choice really but to accept that or completly wipe it clean and try to put on Snow Leopard, but I was hesitant to because of being warned not to try that on the pre-installed macbook pros.) I don't feel it is right that I would have to pay for another OS when I was already supposed to have a functional OS included with my recent major purchase. Let's think about it for second: when I got a powerbook g4 around 2004/05 I paid about the same price as this macbook pro i now own. With that I got the lap top, the installer OS cds (a functional OS I  might add), manual, stickers, a vga adapter, s-output cord, ac adapter, ac extension cable, and phone cord. With the 2011 macbook pro I got the laptop, manual, stickers, ac adapter, ac extension cable, and cloth to wipe off my screen. I didn't get any s-video output or vga adapter, and I'm actually glad that they didn't give me any lion installer cds because that would have been a waste of optical disc. What came free in a box over 6 years ago (vga adapter display port) is now $30 extra at the apple store. Also, no s-video. So I can't hook it up to an external monitor or tv. (and no, I can't just go and buy a fake one on amazon because I have analog so i would on top of that buy a pc converter box. ) I honestly wouldn't mind buying the converter box... had I gotten a free vga display adapter with my laptop. Also let's compare a minor difference in applecare: back then I got a receipt and a box with some info and a applecare test cd that was good for diagnostic utility testing. while maybe a bit old fashioned, I still like having cds that I can use for testing problems. This time, I didn't get any info box or cds, or a receipt for that matter--well i did get an email saying I had extendedapple 3 year but I never had the chance to make a phone confirmation that proves I am in service. I feel that is a bit risky sending people home without a hard copy of your purchase. They could just claim you didn't buy it. maybe i'm just old fashioned that way. To be clear, i can't compare the actual service of applecare of present day and former because so far I haven't had enough use of it to compare it yet.
What I'm getting at is that with the money they saved on gypping me with included accessories and a function OS, surely they could afford to right the situation by giving me a free copy of the new OS Mountain Lion. I might add, that way back when I had my powerbook g4 I went into to apple's genius bar one day and was trying to get an issue fixed regarding the itunes razor phone I had just purchased (way back before iphone had just come out) the music wasn't transferring from my computer to my phone. The guy was very very nice and he said he couldn't fix the problem with the phone (the usb turned out to be damaged) and he upgraded my panther to tiger for free!
That is an example of good customer service. That is example of keeping loyal apple customers.
---also--I found something posted on another forum that I felt I just had to share that further demonstrates  examples of extrodinary past customer service from Apple:

I had the logic board in my iBook 800/12.1" (Nov. '02) replaced 3 times. After the 4th failure occured a couple of weeks ago, I called Apple Support and requested a replacement machine. They refused, and were fairly rude about it.
So, in a moment of desperation, I sent an email to Steve Jobs. I did not demand a replacement machine. I simply said that I was extremely displeased with the quality of my iBook and I would no longer be purchasing or advocating Apple products. I wished Mr. Jobs the best of luck in Apple's future endeavors.
Two days later, I received a call from Apple's Corporate Executive Relations team. The woman I spoke with apologized profusely for my troubles with the iBook. She explained the logic board replacement program to me in great detail, and then, without any prompting from me, asked if a new iBook G4 (as a replacement) would cause me to reconsider leaving the platform. **** yes. So, I'm typing this post on a brand new 1Ghz, 12.1" iBook G4
Needless to say, despite the trouble with the machine, and the heartburn of dealing with Apple Support - in the end I'm left feeling fairly impressed with Apple. In the end, they did the right thing, and kept a customer.

Um, let's review the replies so far, from top contributors:

"I am hoping for an Aperture 4, but will not speculate"
"Nobody qualified to say could/would say anything here about Aperture 4."

    Hi there!
Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us;  working on it!"

  • I just purchased a new iMac. Will mountain lion be offered as a free update?

I purchased a new iMac on Monday. Will the new OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) be offered as a free update for people who just purchased a new Mac?

Almost certainly not, since Moutain Lion won't make an appearance until this summer (at least 4 months off) and Apple historically has offered free OS updates to purchasers of new Macs within 1 month of a new major OS release.
Don't worry about it, though. The upgrade to Mountain Lion through the Mac App Store will most likely be a simply $30, which is very small for a full OS version bump.

  • Will retina display support in Photoshop be part of a regular, free update?

Will retina display support in Photoshop be part of a regular, free update or will it be part of a new version upgrade?

Anyone who knows about future release plans will be bound not to tell.
I don't have one, but from what I've read the current version already works with the Retina display - it's just that is uses the high density display pixels in blocks of 2x2 (pixel doubling).
Is this insufficient for your needs?  Is your desire just to see prettier fonts and icons, or maybe a bit richer looking document preview?
I was reading something the other day that said the mouse only moves in 2 pixel increments horizontally and vertically anyway on a Mac equipped with a Retina display, so the Apple implementation is not completely like having a double resolution display.

  • Download All Free Updates Not Working

Over the past few days, I've noticed that the "Download All Free Updates" won't work in iTunes to get the latest versions of my Apps.  Usually, I can download them all individually without an issue but sometimes one gets "stuck" and even though it downloads, it still shows that an update is available.  When I click the "Download All Free Updates" button (or text), it does show activitiy with the iTunes store but the downloads never start.  Also, if I select "Check for available downloads", nothing happens either.  This is happening on both the new 10.4 version and the previous version.
    Any ideas?

I'm not so sure this an iTunes or a server problem.  I noticed this exact problem for me last night before 10.4 was released.  And updating didn't change anything.
I seem to recall a similar problem a few months ago when I updated a specific app.  It turned that the app update was causing everyone problems and once it was deleted, the problem was gone.
So it may not be an iTunes specific problem, although it is lame that for all the scrutiny apps are supposed to get that they can't screen for update-crashing apps.
I'm not sure how to go about testing to see which of my recently updated apps may be causing this.

  • Will I get free update to OSX maverics?

I bought MacBook Pro with Retina Display about 4 months back. I got OSX Lion installed with it. Will I get OSX maverics free update when it is released?

nobody here can answer that question for you.
Its speculating about an unreleased product, and an UNKNOWN time of release.
    Those that know cant say

  • Will an InDesign retina update ever be released?

I bought the Master Collection CS6 last year, with the understanding that a retina update would be released soon across all Adobe products. Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier have since been updated, but InDesign has not.
I've just heard about InDesign CC, which includes the retina update. When I purchased CS6 i was under the impression that Creative Cloud would have updates first, but not exclusively.
Will InDesign CS6 get the updates in InDesign CC soon?
If not, I would never have bought CS6 in the first place.
    Thanks.

    Never promised?

I have recently bought my Mac mini ( July 12) and have already requested my free update code for mountain lion, got a reference nr, but I still haven't received a code via email to update with? Its been 12 days. Any advice?

I am still in the return window but i really do not want to return my mac as i know it has the ability to do what i want, my problem is just finding the software that will work as i know there has been a lot of complications with OS X Mountain Lion with softwares that caim to be compatible but then later turn out not to be.
I have been a windows user for years and this is really my first mac but apart from the hole software issue i find the mac 10x better than any windows computer i have ever used. For example i bought a HP laptop 4 weeks ago and has nothing but problems. At first the fans stopped working and making weird noises and then it began switching off when ever it felt like it and freezing like mad when i was trying to access the smallest program. I have found that now a days you dont get what you pay for with Windows especially since Windows 8 was released. Also Laptops such as HP now are just crammed with cheap parts, they dont take pride in their systems like they once used to unlike Apple. I know i will get more than a year or 2 out my mac (hopefully a lot more) but with windows systems it just seems to break all the time costing more money on extending warrantys. Also i like mac because i dont need to send it away if i ever get a problem, i can just take it into the apple shop half a mile down the road and they will fix it in store. Where as with windows i am waiting 2 weeks+ to just hear back from them.

  • Free update to leopard???

hey guys. sorry but this is my first time on the fourms (as you can see <<) and i apologise if this is in the wrong section.
nearer to the end of the year i plan on buying a new macbook pro (close to the release of leopard). i was wondering wether apple would be nice enough to give me a free update to OS X leopard when it comes out in the case of me buying it about 2 weeks before its release. what do you think could happen?

  • HT204266 I am trying to connect a blackberry playbook to the Mac.  I have OS 10.5.1 and it says I need OS 10.6.  Is that a free update or do I have to purchase a new OS?  I just want to load music on to the playbook.

Trying to connect a blackberry playbook to the Mac.  It says I need OS6.  Is that a free update or do I have to buy a whole new operating system?  Just want to download some music to the playbook.  Also, is it possible to use a iTunes card directly to the playbook and bypass the Mac?  Thanks for any info you can provide.

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 or 10.8 is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
