Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • Free Upgrade To Lion For New MacBook Pro Shipped With Snow Leopard?

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro which just arrived last week. It came pre-installed with Snow Leopard. Is there a program, as in the past, to upgrade to Lion for free? So far I have not figured out a way to do this.

  • I just updated my ipad2 to ios7 0.2 latest update, but when I go to apps store to upgrade I don't see the upgrade button, nor when I go in for new apps I don't see free button to download new apps. Could you please help

I just updated my ipad2 to ios7 0.2 latest update, but when I go to apps store to upgrade I don't see the upgrade button besides each app, nor when I go in for new apps I don't see free button to download new apps. Is there any setting that missed ?  please help...

What do you see instead of update on the apps you are concerned about?
When updating to iOS 7 auto update for apps will be turned on. When an app has an update available your iPad will download and install the update with no input from you. Apps that have been updated by this automatic process but which have not yet been opened will show a blue dot before their name.
A record of updated apps is kept for your convenience. You can see this record by using the App Store app and select Updates, the right most choice in the bottom row.

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 on a new Macbook Pro

Does anyone know how simple this is to achieve? I'm upgrading to a new Macbook Pro. I have CS3, but want to upgade to CS5.5. I really don't want to re-install CS3 onto my new mac in order to upgrade to CS5.5, or can I just do it using the serial number(s)?

Yes, the upgrade installer will/ should just ask for the serial. You cannot easily install CS3, anyway, since it requires PPC support and would require installing Rosetta, which even Appel do no longer support...

  • Upgrade Suggestions for new MacBook

Getting ready to purchase a MacBook Pro for my soon to be college student interested in Graphic Arts. She has subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud.  Any recommended upgrades to the standard 15.4 inch 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7 to run this software?

Order it with 4 GB RAM and then install 8 GB (or even 16 GB) third party RAM.  Cheaper than having Apple do it.  OWC and Crucial are the two best sources for Mac compatible RAM.
Consider ordering the MBP with the anti-glare high resolution wide screen display.  I highly recommend that $100 option but look at it first.
A larger and faster HDD can always be installed later if the conditions warrant.
    Ciao.

  • HT1529 Upgrade to 8GB RAM & an SSD OR purchase New MacBook Pro?

I am looking at upgrading my older mid-2009 2,53 Mhz MacBook Pro to 8GB RAM PLUS a 240GB SSD for around $380. Is it worth doing this or biting the bullet and purchasing a new MBP...lots more expensive. I am not a professional graphics or photographer but have PS6 and LR5 installed and only 4GB RAM....very, very slow. I like doing photo editing etc. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

First I suggest that you go through this comprehensive trouble shooting document and see if you can optimize the performance of your MBP as is is currently configured.  The monetary outlay will be zero.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521
If you look at the Crucial web site, you should be able to install 8GB RAM and a 240 GB SSD for $282.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook Pro (15-inch%2C Mid 2009)&Cat=RAM
Personally, I would install the RAM first and see if that makes a meaningful difference.  Install the SSD only as a last resort.  I have an antipathy towards SSDs based mainly on cost.  Others have different opinions.
Also update your OS to 10.6.8.
Do not be seduced by quad core CPUs.  They will perform faster only if the application is designed to take advantage of all cores.  Most applications are not (at least the older ones).
    Ciao.

  • Upgrade from 8.2 to 8.6 for new ASA 5515X

    Hello,
My customer has a rather complex configuration on an ASA 5510 running version 8.2
They are migrating to new ASA 5515X models which of course only version support 8.6
How can i convert the configuration from 8.2 to 8.6 since the new ASA's do not support the earlier versions?
The X series seems to be a great option for new deployments but what about replacements of existing older models?
    Thanks for any ideas everyone!
    Chris

    Hello,
I would say go to 8.4 From there you will have the same syntax.
There will be new commands and features on 8.6... That for sure but you are going to be on the same path.
Any other question..Sure ..Just remember to rate all of the helpul posts

  • Upgrade Change Replace Master / Slave Hard Drive for new on Mac Pro

I've searched these threads and google and can't seem to locate how to properly swap out the Master Drive. I'm not sure that this is the correct terminology, but I have a new 2TB drive that I want to replace with the old 250gig drive that has my OSX / Final Cut Pro etc. installed on. Do I copy everything over to another drive, install new one and dump everything back on? Do I reformat? I have the latest OSX.
Do I have to reinstall my programs like Photoshop / Final Cut 7 etc?
    Thanks.

Install the new drive then clone the old drive to the new one using the Restore option of Disk Utility.
You do need to partition and reformat the new drive first.
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    Destination means the new drive.
    Source means the old drive.

  • Mountain Lion Free Upgrade Codes Missing

    Argh!
I'm on my 3rd day now and no codes are appearing for my free upgrade.
You'd think spending >$5500 on 2 MacBook Pros would qualify me for something other than Frustration.
Serves me right for being an iDiot.

I just checked, system profile says: APPLE SSD SM512E, sorry.  I guess the "512" should of been a clue.  Only 41% full which is such a delight after being over 80% full with my old MBP HD.
I'm surprised your wait has been so long.  Both the machines I picked up I simply walked into the Huntsville, Alabama Apple Store, paid, set up, and walked out.  I don't know if being a business customer helped me.
    Nce drive - you've got the SAMSUNG 830 series - very fast.....Hope that's what I get......
Mine took so long because I ordered it with the 768GB drive.....Didn't want to end up with something smaller since i couldn't upgrade it in the future...
I too like the idea that it's pretty light since I travel a lot too...
Thanks for sharing......Have a good day...

  • Is Leopard a free upgrade to Tiger?

Hi. I'm coming from the Windows world and would be moving semi-full time to Mac OS X. I'm just wondering if the Leopard release is a free upgrade to Tiger or is it a completely new upgrade similar to going from Windows XP to Vista.

Apple does not sell upgrade version of OS X (withthe exception of OS 10.1). They only sell full retail versions, so far all for $129 (academic price $69). Typically, if you purchase your Mac after the new version is released, but before Macs begin shipping with the new version installed, you get an upgrade disk dropped in the box for free. Apple will probably continue to do the same when Leopard is released.

  • Internal HD upgrade or external HD for my Macbook Pro (Late 2008)

    Hello,
I am finding the 250gb internal hard drive not enough and want to upgrade to a 500gb/1tb hard drive for my macbook pro (late 2008 edition).
What I am wondering is whether to change the internal hard drive OR buy the fastest possible external hard drive for my mac which I believe is one that works with firewire 800 as my late 2008 macbook pro does not come with USB 3.0.
The external hard drive I have found is £110 and my macbook would be using the Firewire 800 connection:
LaCie Rugged Triple 301984 1TB USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 5400 rpm Portable Hard Disk Drive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rugged-Triple-301984-Firewire-Portable/dp/B005C2BNJI
I dont necessarily need the portability of a external hard drive. I work with large files (photoshop, illustrator files mainly) and would would be concerned that I would not be able to work directly on the hard drive for this type of work so an internal hard drive may be better/
Can anyone suggest a good, fast, cheap, popular internal hard drive compatible with my computer and whether you would suggest changing the internal HD or buying an external.
I am running Mavericks and the only other change I have made is by upgrading my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Thanks so much for your help

For both convenience and speed, I'd recommend replacing the internal hard drive.  Your MacBook Pro can handle nearly any internal SATA 2.5" HD on the market, including 7200rpm models. For what it's worth, I'd recommend a Western Digital Black WD7500BPKX or similar or Hitachi HGST 7K1000 although in my experience Hitachi drives run hot and that's the reason I don't use them as internal drives.
FW800 is fine, but then you have an external hard drive to lug around plus the connection is considerably slower than the internal SATA connection used by the internal hard drive.
Note that you will have to either 1) clone your existing drive to the new drive or 2) completely reinstall OSX and all your apps from scratch to the new drive when you replace the internal drive.   If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to reinstall everything from scratch.
btw, I have done this myself on a number of 2008/2009 MacBook Pros and it's not hard at all.  iFixit has tutorials on how to do this.  (Here is a link to the one that I believe is your model.
