Free upgrade to Mtn Lion. Bought online.

Do I still qualify for a free upgrade if my Mac was bought online? I have clicked he link to request the upgrade but the page wants the store an town the Mac was bought in. Help please. :-)

if you've purchased it after June 11 from Apple or Apple Reseller then you qualify for ML.
if you're having problem with the free upgrade page, it's best to call Apple and have them direct you to the right path on how to get the free upgrade...
good luck...

Mtn Lion not due out until the Summer, so no, you will not get a free upgrade.

  • MBP '12-upgrade to Mtn Lion?

Just bought my latest PBP a few weeks ago.  I was told I could upgrade to Mtn Lion at no cost.  To date, I've only received messages indicating I can upgrade for a minimal cost.  What's the process for a free upgrade?
    Walksthru

If you are indeed qualified, they are supposed to be sending you a coupon for a free upgrade. Rumors have it that the first round of coupons did not work at all, and the second round sent the wrong software.
So I suggest you be patient for another week and see what develops.

  • Upgraded to Mtn Lion, runs like a tortoise

Upgraded to Mtn Lion, runs like a tortoise: how do I speed up my system?

Ok, so then we can proceed to determine what process is sucking up all CPU cycles. Have a look in Activity Monitor, sorting out processes by %CPU (click on the column label). Holler back if you need help identifying what each process is.
May also want to check out the items in the bottom pane for more clues:
In CPU, check out how much %User, %System and %Idle is the total CPU time being apportioned. On a personal computer, most should be in idle time (compared to a server). Note that people have reported that ML has a lot more background processes running than Lion did.
System memory will show how your 8GB are being used. In mine, free mem (green) is usually from a fourth to almost half of the total, unless I'm running heavy duty stuff like VMW Fusion and a VM or two. Check also the swapping activitu (page ins vs. page outs).
In Disk Activity, if you're doin' nothing, so should the drive; if something is pegging it, will need to find out who the culprit is.
Same for Network. Unles you're downloading multiple copies of the ML installer or othe such massive undertakings, traffic should be light unless some unknown is hogging the wire.
    Hope this helps.

Can I upgrade to mtn. lion from lion?

Mountain Lion and Mavericks have the same requirements. You might as well upgrade to Mavericks as it is newer, and unlike Mountain Lion, it's free. Check the requirements at http://apple.com/osx/specs.

iPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

At least to 10.6.8. You must do this to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Attempted to redeem free upgrade to Mountain Lion today but App store said the code had already been used... though it hadn't

I was in the process of redeeming my free upgrade to Mountain Lion today, and received a message in the "redeem" section of the App store that the redemption code had already been used. It hadn't been, unless there's a glitch in Apple's system that assigns codes. I accidentally clicked the submit button twice within a few seconds (believing I hadn't clicked it the first time, as nothing on the page indicated that I had submitted the form), as I was attempting to "redeem" my free upgrade.
Any ideas of what to do would be great. I'm brand new to the Mac world, and am interested in running the most up-to-date OS, especially since I've just procured the very top of the line new Macbook Pro w/Retina display, etc.
    Thanks,

    BookCamp will not help
PowerPC is the processor that Apple used prior to switching to Intel. It is a very old version of Apple for which support has been dropped.
It is not Windows which is what BootCamp will allow you to install.

  • I recently purchased a copy of Lion, will I be eligible for a free upgrade of Mountain Lion?

I recently purchased a copy of Lion, will I be eligible for a free upgrade of Mountain Lion?

    no, sorry.
However, Lion has some great features in and of itself!
you will have to purchase it for 20 dollars in the app store (USA price) to upgrade to ML, the redemption codes that you may be reacting to are for people who recently purchased a computer and were told that they would be able to receive a free download of ML when it is released to make sure their computers are up to date.
This allows apple to release the hardware before the latest software, but still offer the latest software for free, because they're cool like that .
    I hope this helps

  • Upgrading to Mtn Lion from Snow Leopard?

Hello. Currently using Snow Leopard. To upgrade to Mtn Lion, must I first purchase and install Lion?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
No, you may purchase Mt Lion from the Mac App Store and go directly to it.
