Free very useful utility - iClip lite SE

I never saw the use for a program like iClip because I would just keep the information I wanted in a file that I would copy and paste from. However, the new free version iClip lite has a new feature, the ability to store iWork shape files AS shapes instead of PDF's. Seeing as how you're able to use those shapes in Keynote and iWeb, (and you can send shapes to someone else by emailing the Clips.data file) it's a no-brainer for a free app.

Add Shapes to your heart's content and then save the template. For the name of the template I keep it simple: Shapes.
To add shapes as you go along open the template, add the shape or shapes and save it as a template with the name "Shapes." Pages asks if you wish to replace the current template. Click o.k.
A regular Pages doc or Keynote doc would probably be easier because the then all you would do would be to click on 'save,' but I like having the doc as a template so I can easily find it while working in Pages.
Gerry gave me the idea to use a Keynote doc to save shapes. This might be even easier although I like working in one app at a time.

Start up and shut down is slow after erasing free space using disk utility?

I went to Disk Utility, clicked Erase, and then "Erase Free Space." When I saw that it was going to take 1 hour and 30 minutes, I tried closing disk utility. It wouldn't let me exit, so instead I pressed "Skip." But when you hover over the "Skip" button it says, "Erase all data and reformat the disk."
I'm wondering if the fact that I pressed the skip button has anything to do with my computer shutting down/starting up A LOT slower now. If so, what can I do to fix it?

Just wanted to give an update. I called Apple and apparently, you shouldn't empty the free space using disk utility while you're logged in. I had to insert the Installations CD and press the "C" button while my computer restarted, and used Disk Utility from there. My start up and shut down speed still isn't exactly the way it was before, but this definitely made a difference.

I want to make some 3d text in cinema 4d lite to use in after effects CC 2014. Not sure about how to do it. Is some one able to tell me how to do it or direct me to a good tutorial for it? Help would be very appreciated.

no you are certainly not allowed to use music in any way you want.
iTunes downloads give you permission to play the music for personal use only; see the extract from terms of use below.
To use published music for other purposes you would need to contact the publisher of the music direct and ask about obtaining a licence.
This can be very expensive! A few hundred £ / $
If this is for video production, a far easier and cheaper option is to use Production Music, such as MCPS:

What have you figured out? Anything? What you show just shows a pretty quiet system except for firefox having a bunch of tabs open. You've got some page ins and outs so you maybe your'e hitting your HD with swap files more than what you think?
I think something like coconut battery app or something like it will tell you the charge cycles on the battery. How many do you have?
Lastly, are you using any extensions like ad blocker, or click to flash?

Is Appleworks 6.2.9 Now Free to Use?

I just got AppleWorks 6.2.9 from the Abandonware site Macintosh Garden. I gather the Apple no longer sells or supports Appleworks, so can I legally use it on my iMac G4, G5 running Tiger? Thanks.

Thanks folks. I way playing with Appleworks while waiting for your replies. I have been using Open Office Aqua 3.2.1, the most current + last version for the PPC. Comparing the two, the sophistication, GUI, functionality, templates of Open Office is far superior although AppleWorks is much quicker. Legacy software like Appleworks is not really worth paying for so I'll see if there are any other replies, enjoy Open Office very much, was thinking of Appleworks as an alternate software for some occasions.
A similar situation for me was with a legacy version of Roxio Toast Titanium, version 6 in this case. This software is commonly available from a variety of internet sources. Roxio no longer sells or supports Toast 6, so I put in a call to Roxio support telling them how I got the program without paying, asking if I can use it. Their reply was that I was taking my chances using this legacy software but I was free to use, that Roxio no longer has any involvement with it, so I am successfully using it with Tiger

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

This was so annoying!! It took me a good couple of hours but i figured it out, you need to do the following: Go to the folder where you saved the download (in my case i saved it in My Downloads) -> click on 'Adobe Photoshop Elements 12' -> click on 'PSE 12' -> click on 'Setup' (select the icon which is a box with a shield) -> follow instructions and....voila! You will need to restart when it suggests so save anything else first, then when it reboots you should see the icon on your desktop....hpe this helps!

I guess if you owned your own network you could. But, if you owned the network, you wouldn't need an app. Otherwise, how do you think you're gonna just create a "toll free number"?

The drop-down list that appears when typing in the Google search bar doesn't work. Clicking on an item on that list does nothing. This very useful feature is broken.

I just installed FireFox 4. In previous versions typing in the Google search box automatically created a drop-down list of items. One could click on an item on the list and proceed to a Google results page. In FireFox 4, the list appears but clicking on an item on the drop-down menu does nothing. It's broken and it was a very useful feature in previous versions.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I can no longer drag a link to a folder -- a Windows folder -- to save it. This feature is (was) very useful as I could save links relevant to my work in the folder for the project.

In previous versions I have been able to drag the icon from the address bar to a Windows folder, producing a clickable link in that folder.
I even have FAQ and Help files on various web sites advising people to do that as it is very useful to have links to web sites in a folder relevant to the content of the folder.

This is very frustrating -- this feature worked in ver. 3, not sure about 4, but now FF 5 has removed it. This is important enough to me to either revert to v. 3 or use Opera (see below).
IE v. 8 has removed it too.
Opera v. 11 will do it -- but it only saves to the desktop and not to folders, so you have to drag the icon to the desktop and then drag it into the folder.
I use this regularly with presentations -- will be doing one next weekend -- and I take it on a USB memory stick to someone else's computer. I can click on a link in the presentation folder and have that page open in their default browser. It does me no good to have the link in my bookmarks back at my office.
If you're going to remove the feature, you might ought to remove the suggestion to use it at:

I found a post from Alope that told me exactly how to fix it.
Go to:
Settings - General - Restrictions - put your pass code in - Facetime - turn the switch to ON
Worked perfectly to stop the message that said, Not authorized to do that!
